Harry Styles(3): Week of September, 3rd 2022

Hello everyone and what’s up? Happy Labour Day weekend, and welcome back to another countdown. This countdown was really not that great at all, In fact I’d say this is the worst countdown we’ve seen since I Love U left which was 2 months ago. Hitbound was pretty average though. I caution you all though that there’s gonna be tons of rants in this post, as the biggest jump is very unacceptable and one of our exits is an amazing song. There’s other reasons why this week sucked though, most of the jumps sucked and our #1 song I’m afraid is now blocking an EDM song for #1, so y’all know how I feel about that. Anyways let’s get into this lovely countdown with our exits, Shall we?

Debuts

Alright, we’re kicking off the labour day edition of the weekend countdown with………….. Woah…………… Ok, I thought this song would debut much higher given the fact that it’s doing great on streaming, and that it’s Elton John and Brittney Spears with Hold me closer aka the Tiny Dancer remix. This has actually kinda grown in me throughout the week, even though I didn’t hear it on Hits 1, I just decided I wanted to listen to it again to get behind the vocals a bit more, and I actually sorta fell in love with it while doing so. The vocals still aren’t the best, but since I changed my Apple Music settings to turn off spatial audio, it made them way more clear, and the words more decisive to tell what they say here. I think Elton definitely sounds better, but Brittney doesn’t sound bad, she just not the most standout she’s ever been. She backs him up really well though and contributed to the mix in a great way. The writing is catchy to, and I love the play on all of Eltons old song lyrics from Rocket man, and Tiny Dancer. The production is really nice though, it’s a great and upbeat sounding electronic beat, and it fits the vibe of the song really well. I kinda wish it had come out earlier in the year actually cuz it sounds like a Summer vibe to me, but oh well, I don’t really care. Great song, and I hope it can do well here like Cold heart did.

Next we have Armenian singer/songwriter Rosa Limn with Snap. I’ve been really enjoying this lately, and it’s really nice to see a young artist like her become big, through Eurovision, even though she didn’t win it. She sounds great here, and I really like how her accent blends in with the production, and the production is really nice and slow, but not too slow, and it keeps the nice acoustic rhythm that I like in a lot of songs. It’s also really catchy and the writing is quite lovely and memorable. Overall, this is one of my favorite songs right now. Let’s see how it does here.

Next we have REMA and Selena Gomez on the remix of Calm Down. This is decent, and I think I might grow into it more eventually, but right now it’s not too special. The production is really cool sounding and REMA fits in well, and so does Selena, she sounds great and has a really catchy verse, but I’m not necessarily on board with REMA’s voice yet. It’s just getting used to his accent that’s been hard for me. Despite that though, I can at least understand most of the lyrics he’s saying and it is a very fun and catchy song. Overall it’s decent, but I think it could’ve used a bit more. Next.

Ok, so I went into this countdown having never heard this next song, but after hearing it, I’m kinda liking it. It’s called Worlds smallest violin by AJR, and it’s replacing I Won’t this week. Why it's doing that, I have no clue since it’s from last year and not this year, but whatever. This isn’t that bad though, the production is kinda strange sounding with the fiddle or banjo(or whatever the hell it is in the background), but other than that it’s just your normal AJR song. Jack Met sounds great and fits in well, and the writing is really catchy. I also love the buildup at the end, it just added up to the greatness this already had. It’s not the most memorable thing ever, but it’s not bad. Next.

Our highest debut this week(which I most certainly did not see being the highest) is Pink Venom or as we all like to call it now Pink Vomit by BlackPink. Now I don’t really like female K-Pop, and this kinda is no exception, but I feel like I should like this one more because I really liked Ice Cream from 2 years ago. They don’t sound great here at all, and that’s kinda one problem, but the other is that I think this(like many other K-pop songs of this nature) combines way too many ideas and balls them up into one song, so that when I hear it I’m like,”uh what the fuck is going on here.” I mean I will say the production does start out really nice here, and in the chorus it has a really great buildup, but then it switches from cool dance beat with great buildup to really boring drum line, and that’s where I get completely lost and uninterested, and then it switches back after and it’s just weird. The outro is also an issue, and I’ve heard many people say the same thing, it’s just kinda this beat switch and weird mix that doesn’t work. Combine that with really whacky and hard to understand lyrics both in Korean and English and it makes it even more weird and unenjoyable. Yeah I kinda wish they had stuck with the Ice Cream formula for this one, but oh well.

Best Countdown debut: Rosa Linn-Snap

Biggest jump of the week: Nicki Minaj-Super Freaky Girl(+9) ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME. THE FR EEEEEEEEEE AK AK AK IS JUMPING?????????????????????????????????? THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE HITS 1. WHY IS THIS GROSS SONG EVEN POPULAR?????????????????????? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE DON’T MAKE THIS A THING, I WANT IT OUT OF HERE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

Biggest Drop of the week: Kane Brown-Grand(-8) Well at least this crap is dropping fast off it’s high debut from last week, let’s hope that it’s next stop is a visit back to abyssland or gone for good land, cuz there’s no point in having it here.

Countdown extra: TALK-Run away to Mars

Last years #1 song: Ed Sheeran-Bad Habits(5/5 weeks at #1)

My favorite song from last year: The Kid Laroi/Justin Beiber-Stay

My least favorite song from last year: Doja Cat-Need to know

Ashe-Emotional

Elton John/Brittney Spear-Hold me closer

Ava Max-Million Dollar Baby(Debut)

 Bazzi-Heaven

Cheat Codes/Russell Dickerson-I Remember

Anees-Sun and Moon

JVKE-Golden Hour(Debut)

Blackbear-Dead Inside

Havana Winter-Rain Rain Go Away

REMA/Selena Gomez-Calm Down(Remix)

TALK-Rum away to Mars

Armani White-Billie Eilish(Debut)

Role Model-Cross your mind

Debuts

First, we have a song that probably should’ve been here a month ago, but I guess just never showed up until now. It’s from John Legend and Sweetie and it’s called All she wanna do. This is pretty cool for a John Legend song. The production is nice and I love the disco vibe it goes for. John Legend sounds great and fits in very well, and Saweetie verse just adds for some extra spice, and she sounds great here. The lyrics are fun and catchy also. Overall not bad, it’d be nice to see it debut.

I loooooooooooooooooooooooooove this next song, Hmm, am I turning into Waffle now lol. Anyways, this next one is from Waffles favorite artist Ava Max, and it’s the second single off her new album Diamonds and Dance-floors, which I unfortunately heard is now being pushed back to 2023(oh well I can wait) and it’s called Million Dollar Baby, and my oh my, this is just amazing folks. The production is really nice and I can tell she’s going for that Tiesto style EDM production here because the bass is really nice and groovy, and I actually recognize it not from Tiesto’s songs, but from a lot of Imambak’s songs actually, and it also sounds like the same bass that was used in Ed Sheeran’s Bad Habits. It’s got this really catchy and upbeat groove to it, and the melodies help it a lot here. It’s bright and fantastic. Ava sounds amazing, and the writing is really catchy and great, I especially love the bridge where she’s singing m-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma-ma, that just adds to the catchiness in a way that I can’t get this out of my head. Great song, and exactly what pop radio needs right now. I hope it does well here.

Next we have the return of former 1D member Louis Tomlinson  on his new single Bigger than me. I’ve always liked Louis Music, even if it’s not too memorable or big, the only song I really strangely didn’t like from him was Just hold on with Steve Aoki, but the rest of his stuff despite not being too memorable I liked. My favorite song from him is Back to you with Bebe Rexha, but Two of us is a great one to. This new song is pretty good, but not as good as those previous 2 were. I really like his voice here, and the production is quite nice. Writing wise it’s really nice to, I do wish it were slightly more catchy than what we got, but it’s totally fine. Great song, and I hope it does well(maybe not hit #1 though).

Did you expect to see this next song in green? I bet you didn’t, and did I expect this to be in the top 20 on Apple Music’s pop chart? No I didn’t, but thanks to TikTok(of course that horrible app that I wish really didn’t exist cuz it’s taking all the good music from us) this next song is blowing up. It’s from that guy named JVKE who had that song called This is what falling in love feels like earlier this year. I thought that song was horrible, and I really didn’t wanna hear anymore of this guy after that, but after listening to this, I can say I kinda like it in a weird sorta way. JVKE sounds way better here than he did in his previous song, and I really like how he raps in the verses here, his flow isn’t too bad and the lyrics are actually really nice and catchy. The production is a mix between trap, and really bassy shit and basic buildup, I mean it’s not the best sounding by any means, but it’s not horrible and split up into 2 really weird sections, so overall it’s not bad. I don’t see it becoming big though.

Our last debut is from some rapper named Armani White, and what do ya know, is he becoming Jack Harlow 2.0 and naming songs after other artists because now we have his song here called Billie Eilish, and unlike Jack Harlows Dua Lipa, this is decent, but really not that great. The production is really good, I love the beat and how much Bass it gives off, but man this dude has a horrible voice. His flow is alright, but his voice is horrible and the lyrics are eh, not really what I’d say radio should be picking up on, I mean they’re kinda catchy and cool, but not by much. Overall this is decent, but I wouldn’t care if it dropped out.

Our Hitbound exits this week were Last Last and All the things I hate about you. There was nothing memorable about these songs, so I don’t really mind that they’re gone.

The abyss

Morgan Wallen-Wasted on you

Drake/Future/Tems-Wait for U

Nessa Barrett-Die First

Benny Blanco/BTS/Smoop Dogg-Bad Decisions

Piitbull/Zac Brown-Can’t stop us now

The Weeknd-Die for you

Sia-Unstoppable

Sofia Carson-Come back home

Macklemore/Windsor-MANIAC

Black eyed peas/Shakira/David Guetta-Don’t you worry

Stephen Sanchez-Until I found you

I’ll talk more about this in the blurbs. I’m really not that happy with this thing though.

Blurbs

I’m glad to see Are you entertained moving up(even if it was literally just taken off the survey) it’s kinda a cool song, and I’d like it to maybe stick around for a little while longer cuz I’m starting to like it a lot more now.

It’s awesome to see Bad Habit finally get a big boost. I think I’m the only one in the community who really has started to love this song, and that’s fine, I get why people don’t like it, but it’s so trendy sounding that I do like it, and I’m hoping it does good here for this Steve Lacy guy.

Don’t let the light go out and Betty(Get money) jumped 6 spots each into the top 20. I’m happy for both of these, but especially Betty because it’s been lacking a bit here lately, and it’s an amazing and fun song. I hope it jumps more next week.

I’m getting bored with Break my soul, so why it jumped 5 spots I have no clue.

Why did Glimpse of us decide to randomly jump 6 spots. This song is so boring and slow, that it should be out of here by now. Please don’t let this jump anymore Hits 1.

It’s nice to Vegas jumps 3 spots and rebound, but as for So Good(the other song that jumped 3) I can live without it.

Maybe your the problem dropped 4 spots, and I kinda expected that since Million Dollar Baby will probably replace it soon.

Can I ain’t worried jump into the top 5 please?

Why is Harry Styles still #1? I’m sorry, but can we stop the stanning here, cuz it’s kinda getting to be bullshit. It annoys me so much that I don’t want to like this song as much as I do. 2 things are giving me hope that this’ll fall off #1 next week or the week after though, first off next week is technically kinda my one year anniversary, so it’d be nice if we had a non Harry song at #1 for that, and second I literally have a big huge Marshmello mask that I wore a few years ago for Halloween sitting right on my dresser, if you don’t believe me about that check out the Hits 1 discord cuz I have pictures of it in there, but I feel as if I leave this thing out and stare at every night that maybe Numb will hit #1 at some point, I don’t know if it’ll happen, but we’ll see. I hope it does though cuz I’m already sick of Harry. We need a resurgence of EDM, and that starts with this song being #1. Let’s just hope.

As for our exits we lost Until I found you (again) Don’t you worry, Beckys so hot, I won’t and When your gone. Ok, so I’m gonna go out of order here because this is very interesting given a few circumstances. First off I won’t was replaced by Worlds Smallest Violin, but the thing is that I think that’s better than this. I tried to get it onto my personal chart, but I kinda realized it wasn’t AJR’s best song, so I’m alright with that one, although it really should be the new single instead of an old song that’s trending on TikTok, I’m cool with it though since that song is a bit more superior. Beckys so hot sucked, and I wasn’t looking forward to it being a hit anyways, so I don’t mind that one either. When your gone had a really nice run here, and even though it’s shrunk on me a bit, it’s definitely gonna be in my top 40 songs of the year, so I’m not too disappointed with it leaving. It would’ve been nice to see it get further up and hit #1 though. Uh Until I found you is in the abyss again, but it’s not like I really care about it because I rarely hear it on Hits 1, and because it’s starting to get old, it’s been here for months and has barely done shit. I get that it’s unique and all 19050s-ish, but we honestly don’t need it anymore, so I’m alright with that one leaving to. Now here’s the one I’m most certainly not alright with, and that’s Don’t you worry, and guess what I don’t want to have to say it for 1 billionth time this year, but FUCK YOU HITS 1. WHY MUST YOU FUCK OVER ALL THE GREAT EDM SONGS? It’s getting really fucking annoying when you know that all these great artists are getting fucked over by them, I mean seriously between I Love U getting only a week on the countdown, Numb getting blocked for #1, and now this leaving, it’s really starting to piss me off how they treat EDM specifically in this day of age. Yeah it’s a dying genre, but there’s some really amazing talent out there when it comes to EDM, and this is just the latest that’s been fucked over by them. Guetta did an amazing job on this song, and so did the peas and Shakira, and I think it deserves to be here on this countdown still. I mean unlike I Love U, at least this ones back in the abyss and had a longer run, but still it wasn’t long enough. I think Hits 1 needs to realize what I see for once and that’s talent In EDM, which clearly they don’t. This song is slightly starting to fade on me, but that doesn’t mean it’s not amazing. It’ll definitely be in my top 40 of the year and it’ll never be forgotten by me. I hope it re-enters though.

Tiesto/Tate McRae(6): Week of April, 29th 2023

Wow, this community is deserted. Why did I leave all of sudden with no word
