Harry Styles(2): Week of May, 21st 2022

 

Hello everyone and what’s up, this week was pretty interesting countdown wise, as we gained some interesting songs, and lost some really good ones. We also had some interesting moves, we gained some interesting songs on Hitbound, and well y’all already know who’s song held at #1 for the second week in a row. Harry’s new album Harry’s House was released yesterday, and I gotta say I surprisingly loved some of the songs they shared off of ir. I’ll explain more later, but for right now here are the exits for this week.

Debuts 

Kicking off our debuts this week is Italian rock band Maneskin with their new song Supermodel. This is a super cool Little Rock song. The vibe and production work really well here, especially the use of the guitar. It sounds amazing, and blends in perfectly. The little post chorus breakout sounds amazing, and is a nice addition as well. The singer sounds great here, and I really like his voice. He fits in perfectly with this type of rock song and vibe, and the lyrics in this one are interesting and catchy. I’m still kinda trying to decipher what it’s about, but it sounds pretty interesting. Also I’m not sure why, but whenever I hear this I get Nirvana vibes from the 90s. Overall this is an interesting one, and great debut. 

Next up we have Post Malone and Roddy Ricch on Cooped Up, and I must ask how did this even get here, cuz it just showed up on the AirPlay chart yesterday? That kinda baffles me, but at the same time I don’t really care because this is a great song. Post gives some really nice vocals here. He hits those high notes really well, and he fits in better overall here then he did in One right now I feel. Roddys verse takes some time to really build up, but I think he does a great job here vocally. Lyrically it’s very catchy also, and the production is a very well done trap beat that both artists fit into, and it sounds fantastic with all the bass it brings. Overall fantastic song. 

Lastly and certainly most certainly not least, we have the song that Hits 1 just couldn’t and wouldn’t stop playing all week(cuz I swear I heard it a million times over and over again) Me, Myself & I from 5 Seconds of Summer. This ones decent for now, but I feel like it could’ve had a bit more to it. It’s pretty much the same old boy band formula I feel like I hear with every other boy band. The production is super basic sounding, and it honestly feel like it’s only Luke Hemings singing here and not the entire band. I will give it credit though for being catchy and having some really great writing. Overall not bad, but I’ve heard way better and I feel like this will eventually get annoying. 

Best countdown debut: Maeskin-Supermodel

Biggest jump of the week: DNCE-Move(+8) For a smaller hit, I don’t mind this. It’s super positive and upbeat, and overall really fun. I’ll take it, nice job Hits 1. 

Biggest drop of the week: 5 Seconds of Summer-Complete mess & Avril Lavigne/Blackbear-Love it when you hate me(-5) it sucks to see Love it when you hate me fall to the bottom of the countdown, and that it’s most likely it’s last week here, but it was meant to happen at some point. As for Complete mess, I don’t really care that it dropped. Me, Myself & I is slightly better anyways, and I don’t really care about the song much anymore as it became annoying with overplay here.

Debuts 

Alright kicking off our Hitbound debuts this week is Em Beihold, and her new song titled Too Precious. I like Numb Little Bug, but it’s gotten a bit overplayed at this point and I was kinda wondering when we’d get a new song from her. This is great, and it feels so fresh. I really like the vibe she went for with this one, it’s more R&B-ish, and it fits her really well. The production sounds great, and Em Beihold sounds awesome herself on the vocals here. It’s also kinda a catchy little tune lyrically. Overall not much else to say, but I wouldn’t mind this debuting at all. 

Next up we have someone named Connor Maynard with his song PGNL(pretty girl named Layla) and while the name of this song is completely weird, it actually kinda slaps. Connor Maynard sounds great here, and he fits the production really nicely. The production is simple, but it’s so mixed very well and has a great buildup. The writing is also interesting and the lyrics are catchy here. Overall, not bad. I hope this can debut actually. 

Next we have the return of John Legend, and this is the first time he’s shown up on Hitbound in a while. This is his new song titled Dope and it features a verse from rapper JID. This is really cool for an R&B song. John Legend sounds amazing here, and JID really adds a lot to this one. His verse is catchy, and he sounds great. The production is very R&B-ish, but it sounds way different than your basic R&B stuff that John Legend usually does, it sounds very tropical, and it fits both artists nicely. The writing is a bit weird, but at the same time it’s really fun and catchy. Overall, not a bad song at all. 

Next we have what I believe to be the next single off of Harry’s Styles new album Harry’s House called Late night talking. I listened to some of the songs off the album just because I was intrigued, and I gotta say I’m very very impressed with how well this album was put together. This song was one of my favorites, and it’s a great single choice. The production here doesn’t feel generic for once, it actually feels very unique and I can tell it was very 80s inspired. It sounds great. Harry sounds amazing here to, and fits into the production very nicely. That’s something that really surprised me to because I never have really thought of Harry as an incredible vocalist. I like the  writing here to, and it’s catchy as all hell. If it wasn’t for I love U still being here I think this would’ve been in purple, and I’m very surprised to say that. Overall this is great, let’s make it a hit please. 

Next we have some guy named Stephen Sanchez on his song called Until I found you. This is decent, but I can do without it. I really like his voice here. He sounds like a combination of Harrys Styles and Elton John, and he sounds pretty good throughout this the production is boring though, it’s just an acoustic ballad, and it doesn’t pick up at all like I expect it to. I also feel like it should be more catchy. Although I Will say that the writing is super sweet. Decent enough, but I can live without it. 

88Rising and Bibi return this week with their second single titled Best Lover. Their last song The Weekend spent 4 months on Hitbound and never got pushed here, despite being pushed elsewhere, and now we have this. Ok uh what in the actual fuck happened here. Bibi sounds absolutely horrible here and completely ruins the song with her really high-pitched voice. The production is kinda cool, but it’s not that good sounding, and it doesn’t fit her voice all that well. Lyrically this is horrible writing to. It’s not catchy, and it’s just not something that should be on radio. Overall, let’s hope this doesn’t stick around for long. 

Lastly we have Tai Verdes with another song called 100sadsongs. This is straight up bad and boring combined into one. The production doesn’t sound good, and Tai just doesn’t have the good enough voice to sell this. He sounds so awful here. This is also awfully boring that I barely remember what it was about. Please don’t make this a thing Hits 1. 

As for the the Hitbound exits we lost Where you are, and In the stars. Where you are was unappealing and horrible sounding, so I don’t mind it leaving, and In the stars was decent, but also forgettable and it wasn’t ever gonna be popular anyways, so I don’t mind it leaving.

We gained a lot of songs here this week. To the moon and Hold my hand are now here since they left the countdown. It sucks to see the latter here after only 1 week on the countdown, and hopefully it isn’t the next 1 weeker, although I feel like it will be, but as for the former I don’t really care about, so I don’t mind that. Dancing Feet is also still being asked about even though it hasn’t been played on Hits 1 for weeks???????? and lastly This is what falling in love feels like also falls into here, as we wait and see if it’ll make the countdown since it did start to get pushed this week. 

Hits 1 added a few songs from Harry’s House to the survey, and they also have some spins, so I thought why not review them. First up is the album opener called Music for a sushi restaurant, and if I wasn’t completely biased and had So Far So Good not come out , then I honestly probably would’ve put this in Purple, but you know me, so this gets Green. This is really amazing though. The production evolves so nicely here, and the buildup is absolutely spectacular. Harry sounds pretty good, and his voice fits the vibe really nicely. The writing is very very catchy also, and some of the lyrics while a bit cringy are kinda fun to vibe to. I don’t really think it’s gonna do anything here, but I’d like to kinda see it debut. 

Another one of the songs they added to the survey is Boyfriends. This ones alright, but it’s not the best thing I’ve heard either. Harry sounds good, and I really like the lyrics here, but it’s acoustic, so it’s a bit boring to sit through. It doesn’t really evolve or anything, and it’s super forgetful. Overall I don’t really care too much about this one. 

We only lost Handsomer this week. I’m really glad that it’s gone, and it was never a great song anyways. It never needed to be a big hit, and at one point I thought it was gonna debut, but thankfully it didn’t. I can now breathe a breath of relief knowing that it’s gone. 

Blurbs 

I’ve been contemplating putting Honest in Orange lately. There’s absolutely nothing that’s great about it. It’s garbage. Good thing it dropped 2 spots. Can we get this outta here please? 

Skyline jumped 4 spots again back to where it originally debuted, which is nice. You may also notice this is now my favorite countdown song since I love U didn’t debut. 

Ava Max also jumped 4 spots with Maybe You’re the problem. It feels like this should be higher up now, can we get a big  move on it Hits 1? 

House on fire dropped 4 spots to #19. I’m getting a bit bored with this one I feel. I honestly wouldn’t mind it leaving soon. 

It’s nice to see a Hits 1 to watch like 10 things I hate about you move up the countdown so quickly. 

About Damn Time also continued to move up. This has become a favorite of mine now, so I’m quite happy. 

Both Bones and Bam Bam entered the top 10 this week. Nice to see them up there. Will the former eventually hit #1? We’ll have to wait and see. 

Enemy held onto #4, and I’m sorry but how is this possible? This got a huge drop in AirPlay all week. This really should’ve dropped hard. Let’s hope that happens next week. 

I’m really impressed with how Boyfriends done here. I never thought it would get to #2. 

As it was held on for the 2nd week at #1. I mean what did we expect it’s Hits 1. I will say though that this is really growing on me. It’s just nice, chill and fun to vibe to if your stressed, or if you just wanna relax. Question is how long is it gonna stay #1 until I get sick of it? 

As for the exits this week, the only other one I haven’t mentioned yet is The Motto. It sucks to see this go from the top 10, although to be fair it was one of the older songs on the countdown. It will forever be missed though, and I wish it had hit #1 here.
