Harry Styles(1): Week of May, 14th 2022
Hello everyone and what’s up? Wow! Um well we had quite the shocker in this blogger community yesterday didn’t we? Yeah I was quite shocked to hear that Beluga won’t be posting his full countdown reviews anymore, and that means that there’s now 3 of us who will be doing it. Me, Waffle and Bubby Um ok, one thing I need to address with this news is that I know Beluga was the main person who ran the community and his blog was a huge hub for everyone to leave comments and connect as he’s super friendly and he kept us up to date on everything, but now that he won’t be posting as much, we need someone new to take over. As of right now, I guess I’ll assume that role of as of right now, but I don’t really care if Waffle has it either since he’s technically been here longer than I have. Beluga did leave me pretty much with everything on how to get spin counts for Hitbound and everything and well I can’t say I’m gonna be the true authority here, but it seems as you guys like commenting over here more than on Waffles blog, so here’s what we’re gonna do. Feel free to leave as many comments here as you want, my one thing is please DON’T spam too much. Other than that, y’all are free to leave comments here as much as y’all want. I’ll try and get back to them if you ask questions, and I’ll update you guys weekly with what’s asked about on the surveys on Friday nights or Saturday’s. As for spin counts, I guess I’ll try and see if I get them accurately and if not I can always have Waffle do them. Also with the news coming in yesterday, I’m now unsure what to do about Summer Madness, because now with Beluga not posting a ton anymore, I’m not sure if he’s still gonna have time to join. If he doesn’t then I’m gonna either ask someone else in the Hits 1 Discord if they wanna join, or I’m gonna just re-configure the bracket we’re gonna use and start it a bit later than I planned, so it’s a bit delayed, but it’s okay because we’re gonna be doing this the whole Summer anyways, so we have more than enough time to do it and have fun. One last thing before we get into it. I went to thank Beluga for inspiring me and introducing me to the community and without him, I Wouldn’t have been able to start this journey with this incredible blog, nor would I have met and connected with people who share a passion for Hits 1 like me, so thank you again man, and I’m really gonna miss your weekly countdown reviews. Also we’re now a bit over 500 pageviews away from 10,000. Wow! I never thought I’d be gaining that quickly, and I am absolutely amazed by that. Thanks to everyone who’s read my posts from the beginning and hey here’s to 10’000 soon. Anyways wow, that was a lot to take in, but with that let’s get into this weeks countdown and Hitbound.

Debuts
Alright kicking off this weeks debuts with a song I literally reviewed just a few days ago for Hitbound from DNCE called Move. I’ll keep this short and simple here. This is very solid. I think it could’ve been a bit better though. Joe Jonas sounds really good here, and I like the production, but I feel as if it doesn’t fit DNCE very well just with how they wrote this song. I liked Dancing Feet’s production a bit better, and I think it would’ve fit with this song a bit more personally. Nonetheless I still love the writing though, and the song is quite fun and gets me in a good mood if I hear it. I don’t exactly know if it’s the right type of vibe for radio, but we’ll see how it does here. Overall an interesting debut indeed.
Next we have a song that I didn’t review in my last post, cuz I had yet to hear it as it was released while I was away. This ones from the new highly anticipated sequel to TopGun called TopGun Maverick, and the song is by Lady Gaga and it’s called Hold my hand. This is pretty much a very solid ballad from Lady Gaga. I’m not sure if I’d say it’s as good as Shallow from a few years ago, but I still think it turned out amazing. The intro I’m really not a huge fan of with the robotic vocals, and I was very confused as to why that was even included when I first heard it, but the rest of the song is very good. She sounds great here, and the production isn’t as slow as I thought it would be. It perfectly fits her voice, and it goes well with the writing. Speaking of that, I like this writing a lot, I can’t really go into too much detail because without the movie I don’t really know the context of the writing, but from what I’m hearing it sounds pretty good, but really emotional, and it’s good to have a really emotional song sometimes. Overall I love this, and I can’t wait to hear this when I go see the actual movie in a few weeks, I hope this can have some success.
Lastly we have the follow up to Fingers crossed from Lauren Spencer-Smith called Flowers. This is another amazing ballad. It’s not as good as Fingers crossed though, and here’s why. The one reason Why this is a bit boring. Fingers crossed had that really good Acoustic element to its production, and that’s one thing that I feel made it so magical, this on the other hand is just a piano ballad, so it’s a bit more boring sounding, but it doesn’t bring it down for me really because Lauren sounds amazing here, and she definitely doesn’t overusing here as much as In Fingers crossed, but she shows how beautiful her voice is when she’s not hitting those high notes, and she shows it very nicely. The writing here is also great, it’s not as catchy as the predecessors, but I really like it, and I feel like I’ve met people in my life who have been through this, so it feels a bit relatable to me. Overall amazing debut, I hope it can do well here.
Best debut: Lauren Spencer-Smith-Flowers
Biggest jumps of the week: Leah Kate-10 things I hate about you & Lauv-All 4 nothing(I’m so in love)(+9) I’m really impressed by 10 things I hate about you jumping big. As for All 4 nothing, I don’t mind it for now, but I feel like I’m gonna get sick of this one real quick if it gets overplayed.
Biggest drop of the week: Avril Lavigne/Blackbear-Love it when you hate me(-13) I saw this coming from a mile away, and it comes at the right time to when it’s losing traction everywhere else. I love this song though and I’m gonna be disappointed when it’s run comes to an end.

Debuts
Wow we’ve got some Banger debuts this week, except for Bazzi.
Kicking Hitbound off with 5 Seconds of Summer, and their latest single Me, Myself and I. I heard this morning on the countdown that these guys will have their new album drop in September, and it’ll include 19 songs on it, and may I ask why 19 songs? 19 song albums are not meant to be for your average pop boy band that barely gets any big hits(except here) those types of albums are only meant for rappers I feel, but ok I guess. This is the latest single off that 19 song album, and it’s decent I guess. I really like the guys vocals here, but they don’t sound like their a band even, and sounds more like this is just Luke Hemings singing this song. The writing is really good though, and it’s very catchy. The production is the main issue though it’s very basic and forgettable sounding, and that’s why overall it’s just not good enough to have the good/solid ranking. Will this song get overplayed here? Yes it most certainly will, am I looking forward to it? No, but we’ll see how that plays out over time. Overall I guess this can stick around, as long as it doesn’t get too annoying.
Next we’re diving into a banger from Jack Harlow, who currently has my #1 song on my personal chart. This is his new song called Dua Lipa. Yes I Kidd you not he named it after Dua Lipa. Wow! I gotta say thats pretty funny cuz I never thought I’d ever hear a song that was named after one of my favorite pop stars, but alas here we are, and well this is awesome. I’d say this might be even better than first class. The writing here is cool, jack gets a bit flirtatious towards Dua Lipa, and the rest is all him freestyling over a trap beat, so pretty much in other words your average rap song. The beat is really awesome sounding, and makes this sound even more amazing. Jack Harlow sounds really good here, and I still think he has great flow. I’m not sure if I can compare this to his other songs because they’re all pretty awesome, and he’s really talented on each and every one of them, but I’d say this ranks very high up there for him in my book. Great debut, I really hope it can stick around.
Oh look who we have next folks, it’s The Chainsmokers, with what I think is the next single off their now released album So Far So Good. Just a quick note here before I get into this, the album is amazing, probably the best thing I’ve ever heard as far as modern music goes, and as far as electronic music goes, it’s definitely the best I’ve ever heard. Personally if I were to choose my favorite song off the album it’d be Cyanide, which is the closing, but I loved the whole album, and after hearing the missing parts I definitely don’t think the 3 singles were as good as anything else off the album, yes even High isn’t as good as the other songs are, nonetheless I still think the 3 singles are great though. Let’s dive into I love U now. This one I definitely understand why it’s being pushed as a single, it has very much pop radio appeal to it.the production that they did on this one is so cool, it’s more poppy than electronic, but it still has the great elements in it that I look for in EDM, such as a drop. The drop here sounds amazing and mainly what makes it unique is that they mixed drums with orchestral elements here, and those just make it sound ever better. Drew sounds awesome here with the production, and it sounds like he has either some backup singer behind him, or he just puts more effort into his vocals here because I think this is definitely one of his best vocal performances. The last drop is where I lose myself though because that’s just the best part, the slight key change serves drew well, and it just makes for an epic ending. I also have to bring up the beginning and the bridge. In the beginning and bridge you can hear this up pitched vocal right before Drew starts singing, now most people probably think it’s annoying, but I kinda find it enhances the song quite a bit. Now here’s something that you don’t know if you probably didn’t look at the lyrics while listening to this, that I just happen to know. The vocals in the part are sampled from a Japanese anime game(that I forget what is called) I found that quite interesting. Now I don’t speak or know any Japanese, but from what people have said in TCS Discord, those beginning lyrics are pretty much translating to good leader, and they were put there as they were encouraging. I’ve never seen anyone do that in a song, so that’s very unique especially for EDM. Anyways amazing song, I hope it can do well here, and look forward to the full album review soon.
Next we have another artist who I love and stan, it’s Tate McRae with her new single What Would You Do off her upcoming debut album I used to think I could fly. What can I say, this is awesome. The production is awesome, and it’s very mixed way Better than in She’s all I wanna be, and it still keeps the pop-punk vibe I love. The buildup is great, and Tate sounds so awesome with her vocals, I feel like this is Good 4 U 2.0 because it’s just as awesome and it reminds me very much of that song. Can it be a hit, we’ll have to wait and see.
Next we have the return of Bazzi with Will it ever feel the same? This was the only song that I didn’t like off the debut list this week, and after hearing it I can say it’s Bazzi’s worst song to date. Bazzi tries so hard here I feel to sing, but when he does it ends up ruining the song because he over sings. The production is very boring, just an accoustic strum, up until about 2/3 of the way through when a really weird sounding beat comes in, and it just ruins the whole vibe of the song. The writing is good I’ll give it that, but other than that let’s not make this a hit, I’m not impressed.
Lastly we have another banger from Italian rock band Maneskin. This song is called Supermodel, and I’m loving it. This sounds like something people would rock to in the 80s or 90s, it’s got a great rock vibe to, and the production sounds great. I love the breakout part after the chorus, and the guitar is just used so greatly here. The singers voice sounds great with the production, and the writing is super catchy. Overall I wouldn’t mind this becoming a hit.
As for the Hitbound exits, we lost Words and That’s Hilarious. I don’t mind Words leaving to be completely honest since it was very forgettable, and since they’re actually giving I Love U a chance it kinda makes sense anyways, as for That’s Hilarious though, I really wish now that they had pushed it more because I’m starting to kinda grow into it more. It sucks to see it go and I’ll miss it.
Best Hitbound debut: it was super close, but in the end y’all know I’ll put The Chainsmokers over anything else(cuz that’s just me)

Post Malone/Roddy Richh-Cooped Up
We only gained 1 new song that isn’t on Hitbound this week(that really should’ve been) it’s the third single from Post Malones upcoming album. The songs called Cooped Up and it features Roddy Ricxh. I really like this. It’s better than both Motley Crue and One right now, by a long shot. The trap beat sounds great here, and it fits Post Malones voice really well. Post sounds amazing here vocally, and Roddys verse tales some time to build up, but in the end it’s good and he has a great voice here. At least his verse is long. Lyrically this is very catchy to. Overall cool song I wouldn’t mind this becoming a hit at all.
We lost Chosen, Remind me, I can’t help but feel and MAMII. It really sucks to see Chosen go, and I think it would’ve been different if they had picked up on it earlier, it was just bad timing in my opinion, but nonetheless it’s still one of my favorite rap songs right now and I hate to see it go. Remind me and I can’t help but feel I don’t mind leaving since I wasn’t too big on either of them, as for MAMII though I’m really starting to like it, so it kinda sucks that they let it go, but oh well I didn’t expect it to be a big hit here anyways.
Blurbs
Uh Hits 1 why is Skyline dropping 4 spots off its debut? This song is amazing, it shouldn’t be dropping. Let’s make this turn around jump huge next week.
Honest moved 3 spots. I really am starting to not like this the more I hear it. Here’s another interesting thing you may not know though. Hits 1 for some reason is playing the unedited version of this song. I mean I don’t mind dirty versions of songs, but it kinda caught me off guard on this one because the song itself is so bad. Hopefully this won’t stay here for long.
Love me more jumped 4 spots. This is nice to see, even though it’s not the best song I’ve heard from Sam Smith.
First class moved up a big 8 spots this week. It’s nice to see Hits 1 is finally catching onto this one, as it’s still my favorite at the moment.
Lizzo also got more upward momentum this week. This has become one of my favorite song right now. Let’s hope Hits 1 can keep this going.
I’m starting to lose interest in Freaky Deaky a bit. It moved up 3 spots though, which is good. It’s nice to see Tyga have some success here.
Mimi Webb also moved up another 3 spots with House on fire. I’m really impressed by this despite how little AirPlay it seems to have and the fact that I never hear it when I listen to Hits 1. I really hope they can keep the upward momentum going with this one. I’m not sure it’ll happen, but I sure hope it will.
Out of time dropped 3 spots. I feel like I should like this a bit more since I love The Weeknd, but it just hasn’t caught onto me enough yet although I’m always seeming to hear it. Decent enough though, and I don’t mind it having success.
Bones and Bam Bam jumped 5 spots getting even closer to the top 10. I really hope both can reach the top 10 because they’re both awesome. I did lose slight interest in the former, but now that they’ve started to play it a bit more I’m really catching on.
When You’re gone is in the top 10. Let’s goooooooooooooo!
I’m starting to lose a bit of interest in Numb Little Bug, it’s a solid song, but it’s getting very very overplayed. It dropped out of the top 5 though, so it should start to fade away soon. I’m happy with the success it’s gotten here though.
2Step is now at #6. I really am starting to love this song more and more now, and I really hope with how Hits 1 tends to be that it can at least battle for #1 with our new #1 song.
She’s all I wanna be is in the top 5. Let’s Goooooooooooooooooo! I’d love to see how much farther this can go. I unfortunately don’t see it getting to #1, but at least we’ve got another top 5 in the books for Tate McRae.
Enemy dropped to #4 after being #1 the last 3 weeks and overall a total of 5 weeks. I never really understood the appeal to this song, and it just isn’t my thing, so I’m actually glad that we have a new #1 song this week. This has spent more than enough time at the top.
Speaking of our new #1. I bet everyone here saw it coming, it’s As it was. Now I saw a lot of comments warning me that this was #1, and thanks for leaving them here, but ya know what I’ve actually realized that this isn’t a bad song. When I went away I heard this song a lot on Hits 1, and to be completely honest I was vibin to it the whole time I was there. Sometimes I’d think and I told myself I really hope I don’t dread it when this song hits #1, bur I realize now that the songs really cool and trendy. It flows really nicely with the production and even though Harry’s not the best vocalist in my opinion, I don’t think he sounds bad here, and it’s super catchy. Now will my opinion change if this hits #1 for too many weeks? Maybe, but we’ll see what happens with it. As for now though I’m perfectly happy that this is #1. At least it’s more fresh than Enemy.
We lost Weatherman, Big energy and Light switch this week. I am absolutely stunned that Light switch is already gone. It was #1 4 weeks ago. I don’t think I’ve seen a song ever leave that long after being #1. It will be truly missed, but I’m glad it got to the top here. Big energy really surprised me also. It sucks to see it go so fast, but oh well, I never thought it would actually do as well as it did on Hits 1, so again I’m very impressed by this one to. As for Weatherman. It stayed way longer than it should’ve been as a 1 to watch, and it got slightly annoying towards the end, but I’ll never forget the cool little run it had here, and all the times I fell in love with it when it was played. I’ll miss it a bit, although it’s still only a 1 to watch.
#1 recommendation for Hits 1 off So Far So Good-The Chainsmokers-Cyanide
#1 recommendation that’s from a non-TCS artist: Southside/Future/Travis Scott-Hold that heat

You said there is now three of us doing weekly countdown reviews, well make that four because I have started a blog in the aftermath of Beluga's shocking announcement yesterday. If you want to check out my first post (which contains a rant about As It Was hitting #1 btw), here is the link:

I still don't know how to make my new blog show up in the sidebars of other blogs, however.
DeleteIf you have one just put the link down below and I’ll put it in the sidebar. To put one in the sidebar you pretty much go to Blogger, click Layout in the sidebar and where it says sidebar there should be a little pencil that’s an edit button, you just click they and put the link to the blog you want to be in the sidebar into there and then name it for whoever’s blog it is.
