Charlie Puth/Jung Kook(1): Week of September, 24th 2022(This will not be a full review)
Hello everyone and what’s up? I’m back finally and trying to get caught up, luckily I only missed 1 countdown(although I did listen to this weeks episode of Hitbound) and I was quite shocked by this week, it was very very strange and I’m questioning a lot of these moves Hits is doing. I wanted to remind y’all this won’t be a full countdown review just because it’s the middle of the week, and I have schoolwork to still catch up on, plus it doesn’t make it any better that the whole state of Florida is under a state of emergency right now due to hurricane Ian approaching. The lucky thing for me is that we’re not supposed to be hit hard or be directly hit by this hurricane, but everything is being shut down because of fears of street flooding and wind gusts(which were really bad in hurricane Irma 5 years ago). The good thing though is that I don’t live near the beach, and usually the only major things that these things bring to me and my family is a power outage, and a flooded pond in our backyard, other than that hurricanes don’t really scare me that much, and this one will probably be a tropical storm by the time it hits here in Jacksonville, but just in case anything does happen where I have a long term power outage I want to get this post out ASAP. As for how this affects my personal chart, it really doesn’t affect it unless the power goes out here on Friday, then that might be delayed, but I’m not expecting that to happen, so for right now if you follow me on CrownNote expect that to still come on Friday. This weekends countdown was really really strange, after a really boring week last week. In fact it’s the weirdest countdown I’ve ever seen in my life. We had some good debuts, and really great Hitbound songs though(although I warn there will be 1 big fat rant for a song that debuted Hitbound) other than that Hitbound was pretty good though, but this countdown is wack as hell, let’s get into it with the exits shall we?
Exits
Louis Tomlinson-Bigger than me(29)
Rosa Linn-Snap(21)
Alec Benjamin-Devil doesn’t bargain(11)
Ellie Goulding/Big Sean-Easy Lover(9)
So to kick things off, the first 2 exits are now in the abyss. It’s kinda weird to see Bigger than me leave after only 2 weeks, since Hits 1 tends to stan all of the One Direction member and their music, but this song isn’t really that popular, so I guess I won’t question it too much. I’m hoping it can re-enter though, Snap had some upward momentum also, but as I was going through my whole ordeal I checked the songs AirPlay regularly and it had seemed that they somehow just made it tank in AirPlay, and some other version with a different cover art came onto XMplaylist recently, so I’m not sure exactly why the song left, but I think there’s some weird stuff going on with it. I’ve been enjoying it a lot lately to, so it sucks to see it go and I really hope it re-enters soon. As for the other 2, they’re gone for good. Devil doesn’t bargain was a great song, but it never really took off anywhere, so I’m not surprised it’s gone and I really do wish I had heard it more while it was here, but I don’t really care about Easy Lover, I mean it started off as good and just became increasingly boring and it never really took off in a huge way outside of Hits 1, so I can care less that it’s gone.
Debuts
#30 JVKE-Golden Hour
I’ve been debating the past few weeks of whether or not this will make the cut for my charts or not. It’s seemed to go viral everywhere these last few weeks, and I’ve heard it many times on social media(or just in random places in general) it’s a big improvement over JVKE’s last song called This is what falling in love feels like. The style used in the instrumental is a bit similar, but it’s significantly less weird. First up I feel like it flows way better than it’s predecessor, as it’s not really split into sections of instrumental. The production itself is quite good sounding actually. I really like the piano melody used, and the small uses of other sounds beginning in the second verse. It’s really chill, but good. JVKE does a pretty good job vocally here to, his rapping sounds great in the verses, and he does an amazing job on the chorus. The writing is really fun and catchy to. Overall, I’m not sure if I like it enough to make it have a run at my chart, but either way I’m kinda impressed this made the countdown, and I hope it does good here, unlike it’s horrible predecessor.
#28 Lewis Capaldi-Forget Me
I talked about this song before my whole ordeal(when it was on Hitbound) but yay, now I get to talk about it again. It’s becoming one of my favorites now. First off the production is a 100% improvement over his previous hits, simply because it’s upbeat, and it sounds very great, and in a way it kinda reminds me of a more downtempo version of Calvin Harrises really amazing song that dropped out of Hitbound a few weeks ago called Obsessed, and that’s because I can hear this really interesting sound in the mix that I recognize from that song itself. I’d almost describe it as a wave hitting a wall or crashing, but it’s not exactly that. I think this is mixed really well though, so congrats to his production team on that one. Lewis himself sounds probably the best I’ve ever heard from him, he does shout some in the chorus, but the production makes it way more bearable for me to withstand for a long time(although I didn’t mind it before really). Lyrically, I really like the story that this tells also, even though I can’t relate to it myself in a big way. It’s also way more catchy than any of his other songs, so that makes for a big improvement. Great song, and I really hope it does well here.
#27 David Guetta/Bebe Rexha-I’m Good(Blue)
This has become one of my absolute favorite songs within the last few weeks, and pretty soon it’ll be competing with one of the new Hitbound songs for #1 on my chart. If it weren’t for me still loving Bad Habit this would’ve easily been in purple, but it’s not so maybe next week it will be(I’m not sure though). I really love Guetta’s production here. The melody was sampled from Eiffel 65’s Blue(da ba dee) and Guetta did a perfect job recreating it for this song. The rest of the production really just fits in perfectly also, the drop is amazing, and it’s overall just really fun sounding. Bebe Rexha sounds great here also, she has a great voice over this production, and the writing is too much fun and very catchy. Overall this is amazing and I hope it smashes here and doesn’t get fucked over like every other EDM song that Hits 1 has picked up on this year(lookin at I Love U, and iPad more specifically)
Re-entries
#17 Stephen Sanchez-Until I found you
This really didn’t need to re-enter because it didn’t have great AirPlay, nor do I think it’s that great, but whatever, I guess I’ll take it.
Best countdown debut: David Guetta/Bebe Rexha-I’m Good(blue)
Biggest jump of the week: Yung Gravy-Betty(get money) & Elton John/Brittney Spears-Hold me closer(+8) Betty jumps from #22 to #14 and Hold me closer jumps from #20 to #12. I’m very pleased by both of these jumps, but more so with Bettys. It’s still one of my favorite songs right now, so it’s good to see it finally get a big jump here.
Alright big shocker incoming.
Biggest drop of the week: Harry Styles-Late night talking(-14) Woah Woah Woah Woah Woah Woah Woah. absolutely uncalled for and unacceptable move Hits 1. I mean I think I’m almost speechless here. Yes it was getting really annoying the last countdown around, but I’ve realized since my whole medical thing that this song is quite good. I was actually excited to hear it after I got out of the hospital because before that I hadn’t heard it in days, so I have a new appreciation for this song. Is it gonna make my top 40 of the year? Hell no(nor is anything by Harry for that matter), but it would’ve been way nicer to see this have a natural fall down the countdown than a really quick one like this. I kinda regret putting this in my hate the song category when I did my last survey(which I did a few hours before I had my stroke actually) I mean it’s not a bad song, I was just trying to show them that it was getting a bit annoying to hear every time I got in the car and tuned in. I didn’t think that it would maybe cause this song to fall that much though(not that it’s all my fault) but uh damn. Please, maybe let the song have a natural fall down the countdown though next time Hits 1. It doesn’t need to plummet and be out of here within a month of it hitting #1.
Hitbound debuts(there’s a shit ton of these)
5 Seconds of Summer-Best Friends
I wasn’t really looking forward to 5SOS5 being released this week, as I’m not really the biggest fan of 5SOS(although I do like Old Me, Teeth, Youngblood and of course Who do you love), so I wasn’t looking forward to this album, but Hits 1 has seemed to pick up on a little non-single from the album called Best Friends and damn, this is up there for everything that these guys have produced. I really love the writing here, as I was listening to this I couldn’t help but think of all my friends who I haven’t seen in over a week, and how much they supported me over last week. It felt really relatable to me in other words, and the guys delivered pretty well vocally here, and they actually sound like a band(yay). The production is also cool, a bit weird at the beginning, but I got used to it very quickly. Overall pretty good song, this is one I actually hope can debut here,
Quinn XCII/Big Seam-Common
I’ve never been a huge fan of Quinn XCII(92), but this is great. Once again, I had those same feeling I felt when I listened to Best Friends, but this one felt more uplifting with the production. Quinn sounds great here, and I really liked the addition of Big Sean’s verse. He contributed really well on this. The writing is once again really amazing. It’s pretty much a.best friend anthem. It’s also kinda catchy. Really nice song, I doubt it’ll be anything here, but let’s see if it does.
Kelsea Ballerinni-HEARTFIRST
If you were to actually guess what my favorite song from Kelsea Ballerinni is, what would it be?(it’s so easy because obviously it’s This Feeling) despite my very much bias towards that song though just because it’s a song from The Chainsmokers, doesn’t really mean that I hate Kelsea’s other stuff to. I actually quite liked Miss me more and The Other Girl with Halsey. This new song doesn’t even compare to those 3 I mentioned, but it’s still really good. Kelsea sounds great throughout and the production is a bit basic, but really nice and upbeat. Writing wise it’s also pretty good sounding, Overall, can we get another hit for Kelsea here, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Lil Nas X-STAR WALKIN(League of Legends Worlds anthem)
Big big big one coming here from Lil Nas X. This is the second song from Arcane: League of legends to be impacting radio, and it’s a much needed improvement over Enemy. This is already #1 worthy for my chart(but can it get there before I’m Good can?) anyways this is amazing. Nas sounds great here, and I love his flow. The production is awesome, it’s kinda like a mix of EDM and trap, but it’s very much great sounding and has elements of both present, which I love. The writing is very catchy and very relatable to, I’m using this one as my personal encouragement anthem right now, just after being in a hospital for a week, I have to filter out all my fears and negative thoughts, and this songs writing helps with that a lot. It’s catchy and exciting and amazing all in one song. I really hope this smashes and earns Nas his second #1 here(although it’ll probably be blocked by something dumb),
Alright rant incoming.
Sam Smith/Kim Petras-Unholy
Ugh, WHAT IN THE LITERAL FUCK IS THIS, AND WHY IS IT #1 EVERYWHERE ON STREAMING? I seriously do not get America’s taste in music today. There is absolutely no fucking reason that this shitshow of a song should be #1 in streaming, it even broke As it was’s record for gaining the most single day streams. I get that both of these artists are trans-gender and that a lot of people want Kim Pettas to break through and get a hit, but I don’t see them as a artist who’s really deserving of one, I mean there’s nothing special about them in my opinion. So I guess snoozefest Sam turns to shitfest Sam in this song, as the production sounds really horrible. The trap used is overly basic and annoying. Sam sounds horrible over it(unlike in How do you sleep, which actually had a good trap beat) and Kim just simply cannot deliver a great vocal talent on their verse. Let’s also get to the really weird chorus and writing. The chorus doesn’t even sound like it’s sung by Sam at all, and it sounds horrible. The writing is weird and just so bad also. I just do not understand who would want to listen to this shit on repeat and make it go #1 on streaming. Really annoying song, next.
Beach Weather- Sex, Drugs, etc
So apparently this song is from 2016, so as to why it’s here, I have no clue, maybe it’s doing something on TikTok? I mean I don’t really know though since I don’t use nor want to use TikTok. Whatever the case though, this is alright I guess. It’s nothing too special really. The production sounds cool, and the guys voice is alright, but it’s not that special nor memorable, so I don’t know, I don’t really care that it’s here.
Omar Apollo-Evergreen(you don’t deserve me at all)
Once again, nothing special or memorable in any way, the only reason it’s in red though is because I don’t like the guys voice. It’s just super boring sounding, and the production is also pretty downbeat. Moving right along now.
Mike Posner-I’m not dead yet
Alright, so back to a good song. Mike Posner is back with what sounds like could be a song that might actually do something on the charts. He had a Hitbound dropout last year that was decent, but I’m most familiar with his much older song(mainly being I took a pill in Ibiza and Please don’t go) I liked both those songs quite a bit when they were popular, but especially the former, so I was expecting something to come out of this song, and it’s actually quite good. I really like the writing and how it references sad songs, kinda like how I took a pill in Ibiza did. The overall writing is pretty good though, not as catchy as his older songs, but pretty good. Mike does a nice job vocally here also, and the production is kinda unique and cool. Really solid song, I wouldn’t mind it being a hit here.
Havana Winter-Heaven to me
So I have no clue who this artist is, but Mikey Piff did talk about her during the episode of Hitbound(for once) she’s 16, and it pretty much just sounds like she’s your typical new artist who starts singing and becomes somewhat popular though TikTok or other shit like that. Her last song called Rain Rain Go Away was pretty solid(although it was a literal carbon copy of La di die by Nessa Barrett and Jxdn) this song on the other hand is really not that great. Havana doesn’t sound too good here, and the production is really weird, as well as the writing. Overall, let’s not make this a thing.
As for Hitbound dropouts, there were a lot, we lost. Curious/Furious, Run away to Mars, Smells like me, Sun and moon, Sting, fmk, Rain Rain go away and Dutton Ranch freestyle. The only ones I really cared about here the first one and the last one(which will now be debuting my chart this week) the rest I really didn’t care about, although it would’ve been nice to see Rain Rain go away stay, rather than Heaven to me debuting.
Best Hitbound debut: Lil Nas X-Star Walin
The abyss
Blurbs
I really started to enjoy Worlds smallest violin right as my whole ordeal began, so expect to see it in green this week. It only moved down a spot to #26 though this week.
Pink Venom, Glimpse of us and Million dollar baby all moved up 3 spots from last week. The only one I’m impressed by seeing jump is Million dollar baby. The other 2 can go away any day now.
Oh come on, why did Bad Habit move down 5 spots????????? It was doing so well on the hit-maker 5 earlier in the week, guess that tells me that thing doesn’t impact countdown runs. This song needs to move back up though cuz I’m still loving it and grooving to it quite a lot, it moves from #17 to #23.
About Damn Time is apparently still here and jumped 2 spots to #21. How weird considering how old it is, Same thing applies to maybe your the problem as it jumps from #18 to #16,
Make you say jumped 4 spots from #24 to #20. That’s a great move. Now only if it can get more AirPlay, then I think it’ll be fine here.
Bones also jumped 4 spots from #15 to #11, once again very surprising. I mean it technically should be gone by now right?
Vegas jumped into the top 10, as it went 4 spots from #14 to #10. This is a great song and I’d love to see it hit the top 5, although I am getting a bit burnt out from it already.
Victoria’s Secret also re-entered the top 10 jumping 3 spots from #12 to #9. This doesn’t need to be a hit.
Sunroof fell 3 spots from #5 ton#8, oh well Summer is over, so I saw this coming sooner or later.
So Good also jumped 3 spots from #10 to #7. This song is so annoying, and everyone in the community seems to be getting tired of it, can it just leave already, I also hope this doesn’t hit the top 5.
Numb fell 2 spots to #6. ☹️
I ain’t worried(5) I like you(4) and Music for a sushi restaurant(3) are now in the top 5. I don’t mind them being here, in fact I hope Harry can block Lizzo this time, as she sits at #2 with 2 be loved cuz that song is so annoying.
Charlie Puth and Jung Kook have hit #1 with Left and Right. I don’t mind this. It’s gotten a bit overplayed, but I could care less, cuz it’s a really good song, and in porous to say that this is the first time any BTS member has had a #1 song on Hits 1, so congrats to Jung Kook on that. Let’s see if we can keep this around for a few more weeks, although is Harry did take over I really wouldn’t care because Music for a sushi restaurant is an anthem.
Recommendations for Hits 1.
Yung Geavy/bbno$/Rich Brian-C’est la vie
Sigala/David Guetta/Sam Ryder-Living without you
Kygo/Gryffin/Calum Scott-Woke up in love
The Chainsmokers-Solo Mission(yes a song off So Far So Good, isn’t that shocking?)
Thank y’all for reading(and for your patience) and I’ll see y’all in the next one(which will be a full review).
hey check out this super cool post with cool announcement: https://bunnyfunny382929.blogspot.com/2022/09/harry-really-toppled-week-of-92422.html?m=1
ReplyDeleteJust submitted for the survey. I’m not really sure how I wanna feel about Satellite by Khalid, it kinda made me have an emotional breakdown when I first heard it, but I guess it’s alright.
DeleteOopsies... Did you hear it for the first time on the survey?
DeleteGrand is our only exit this week.
ReplyDeletebruh moment
DeleteI've made a survey which I'm going to be making a countdown on every week. How the voting works is you put 5 points if you love it, 4 if you like it, 3 if it's decent, 2 if you you dislike it, and 1 if you hate it. Essentially the same as a Hits 1 survey. Anyways here the link: https://forms.gle/qYgHNA95Z8p5wXto7
ReplyDelete(just to promote, i know you did it trey)
Also if someone could post the link in the discord that would be great
DeleteI think Hrish posted it in the discord yesterday,
DeleteOk, thank you for letting me know!
