Harry Styles(2): Week of August, 27th 2022
Hello everyone and what’s up? I’m sorry this post was a bit delayed, but I was out for the whole day yesterday as I went to see a collage football game with a few friends. This week was great though overall, a bit boring, but still great. I’m not in love with our #1 song, (although I absolutely love the Harry Simpson picture I’m siding for this post, thanks to ZestPond for that), but it is what it is I guess. Anyways, if y’all haven’t seen my few announcements I posted the other day, you might wanna check them out because some of them affect how my posts are going to be formatted from now on, so if you see some stuff missing from these posts from now on, I addressed that the other day and explained why I now have to leave them out. Anyways, no other announcements, let’s just get into this weeks countdown, starting with the exits,

Debuts
First up we have a song that most people were probably expecting to be in purple, but it’s in green now. It’s called Make you say by Zedd, Maren Morris and BEAUZ. I really like some of Zedd’s music, as I emphasized that in last weeks review of this song, but his 2018 collab with Maren called The Middle isn’t one that I particularly adore because of the fact that it’s basic, and overrated. Zedd’s more recent stuff from 2019-present has been really good though, so I had high expectations going into this song, and they paid off wonderfully. The production that Zedd and BEAUZ did here is fantastic. It’s upbeat, it sounds very joyous, and I love the buildup and drop, they both sound amazing. Maren sounds great here vocally, and the writing and melodies are very catchy, that I haven’t been able to get it out of my head the past week. Great song, but it does fall to one song that I like even more now and more on that to come later, anyways next.
Next we have what I really really really hope is the actual RADIO SINGLE off Panic at the disco’s new album Viva Las Vengeance called Don’t let the light go out. I didn’t like the title track from the album, but I’m enjoying Middle of a breakup quite a bit(more on that in the blurbs section) but this song has really grown on me a lot over the past week. The production while quite a bit slower, (like a lot of the songs on the album) is really nice here, and it fits the vibe of the song very well. Brendan Urie sounds amazing vocally, and I really like the writing. It’s very relatable and I can tell maybe a bit personal to Brendan himself, and that’s something I think I’ve repeatedly said I love in music. It’s been very prevalent in So Far So Good, and now I’m seeing it in this song, and that’s awesome. Let’s hope this one can actually be a hit here and that they don’t fuck it over like the last one.
Lastly, debuting all the way up at #19(exactly where it shouldn’t be) we have Grand by Kane Brown coming out of the abyss. I’ve liked some of Kane Browns songs, but this is defiantly his worst. The production here is trap, and it doesn’t fit his voice well at all. It’s also super basic sounding though, and he doesn’t sound that great here either. The writing is decent I guess, but there’s just nothing that says to me that it’s special or anything. Overall, not a great song. I hope it doesn’t do too much here.
Best countdown debut: Zedd/Maren Morris/BEAUZ-Make you say
Biggest jump of the week: Lizzo-2 be loved(am I ready)(+8) Nothing really special about this they screams top 10 to me. I do really like that key change at the end though.
Biggest drop of the week: Lizzo-About Damn Time(-8) I would’ve preferred this stay in the top 10 for a bit longer than having it be replaced by its follow up, but it is one of the oldest songs on the countdown to, so I don’t completely mind the drop.
Countdown extra: Macklemore/Windsor-MANIAC
Last years #1 song: Ed Sheeran-Bad Habits(4/5 weeks at #1)
My favorite song from last year: Regatd/Troye Sivan/Tate McRae-You(this’ll finally change next week)
My least favorite song from last year: Shouse-Love tonight(I love one house song, and I hate another, isn’t that funny?)
Hitbound
Sofia Carson-Come back home
Cheat Codes/Russell Dickerson-I remember(Debut)
Havana Winter-Rain Rain go away
REMA/Selena Gomez-Calm Down(Remix)(Debut)
Macklemore/Windsor-MANIAC
Demi Lovato-29
Talk-Run away to mars(Debut)
Ashe-Emotinal(Debut)
Anews-Sun and Moon(Debut)
Blackbear-Dead inside(Debut)
Role Model-Cross your mind(Debut)
Burns Boy-Last Last
Panic at the disco-Don’t let the light go out
Elton John/Brittney Spear-Hold me closer(Debut)
Huddy-All the things I hate about you
Bazzi-Heaven(Debut)
Debuts
Alright first off we have a collab that I would never think would be a radio single, nor would ever even work out, but somehow it just does. It’s called I remember from EDM trio Cheat Codes and some country singer named Russell Dickerson. This is very very good despite how weird it sounds. The production from Cheat Codes is pretty good, and I love the use of the guitar and melodies it has. Russell Dickerson sounds fine on this, and the lyrics are really nice. I’m gonna say right now that after Hippo posted his review of this yesterday, I have to agree with him that this sounds like a collage student anthem kinda, so it’s really nice getting to hear this and think to myself,” this sounds like the stuff they need to play at a collage football game.” And I realized this after I went to an actual game this weekend, so I think that kinda made me have a much deeper appreciation for this song. I really hope it can do well here.
Next we have a really interesting collab, it’s a remix of an Afro-pop song from some singer named REMA, and it has a guest verse from Selena Gomez now. I didn’t really like this on my first listen, but after hearing it again, I can say it’s decent. The production is really cool and groovy. Selena Gomez does a great job on her guest verse, but REMA doesn’t exactly have the best voice I don’t think. What I really like though is that the lyrics in this song are really catchy and affectionate, so even though it’s decent now, I think this might have the chance to grow on me. We’ll see how it goes though. Next.
Next we have some random ass song from 2021 that I’ve never heard of called Run away to Mars, and this is by uh a band, or a singer(I don’t know) called Talk. This is a super nice accustic ballad. The production is nice, and the vocalist has a really great voice, and the message is great, but it’s super forgettable, and the lyrics aren’t that catchy. Overall not bad, but I do wish I liked it a bit more.
STOP PICKING UP ASHE, NO ONE GIVES TWO SHITS ABOUT HER OR HER SHITTY MUSIC, you know what I have now collectively decided because of someone in the hits 1 Discord, that I am going to start calling her Asse from now on because that’s what all her music sounds like, ass. The production on emotional is kinda cool I’m not gonna lie, but the Mexican vibe is completely weird, and she sounds horrible over it. Her very annoying voice just does not fit over any type of production does it. She’s tried so much, but she sucks, except for ok Save Myself and Til forever falls apart. All her other music sucks, and I’m sorry, but I think someone needs to tell Hits 1, so that they can get it in their little fucking heads. I really would’ve preferred the new David Guetta/Bebe Rexha song over this, but nope, they just have to pick this up, and fuck over every single EDM song don’t they. Alright rant over. Let’s move on to much better song(that are still from unknown artists).
Next we have some dude named Anees(no clue how to pronounce that name) with his song called Sun and Moon, and this is pretty much a really good indie-pop song. Anees sounds like a better version of Tai Verdes, and I really like the nice bright and upbeat production here. The writing is also super catchy and I like the subject and story of love that it brings. Will it be a hit? Probably not, but I’m fine with it being here,
Next we have Blackbear who released his new album In Loving Memory the other day. The next SINGLE(see I emphasize that word a lot) off the album is now here and it’s called Dead Inside. I definitely think Toxic energy is way better than this, but this isn’t bad at all. Blackbear sounds great, and Barker’s production is really nice sounding. The writing is super relatable to, which again is something that I like. Nothing much else to say, very great song though,
Wow, we have another 1 to watch alumni with another Hitbound song, as Role Model aka Tucker Pillsberry gets his second song here, not quite 2 years after his song Going out was 1 to watch. Going out was a cool song, I mean it was annoying at first, but I started hearing it a lot on Hits 1 right when my family gout our subscription back, and I kinda got used to hearing it over time. This song is even better though. The production is much more suited for Tucker’s voice here, and he sounds great over it. The writing is since again forgettable, but from what I remember, it was solid. Cool little song, we’ll see if it does anything here. Next.
Ok, so next we have a big one from Elton John and Brittney Spears called Hold me closer. This is pretty much a remix of Sir Eltons classic hit Tiny Dancer, and I was really excited for this when it was first announced, but after hearing it I’m a bit more skeptical than I want to be. I really like the production here, it’s a very nice and vibey EDM beat, and it’s mixed very well. The writing is super cool to, as it interpolates Eltons past song, such as Rocket Man, and of course Tiny Damcer. Here’s what’s completely going to fuck this up with me though, the vocals. I can tell that they aren’t mixed well, and it’s so obvious because Elton does not sound like himself here. He doesn’t have any vocal affects or anything, but he just doesn’t sound like himself, and Brittney sounds good, but man her voice has not really aged well, as it’s way more high-pitched than I thought it would be. The chemistry is great though, it’s just that maybe they could’ve done a bit less electronic than they did. It’s solid, but I don’t know I’m not 100% sold on this. Let’s see what happens with it next week and I’ll follow up then,
Lastly, we have Bazzi with a new song called Heaven, and this isn’t really good. He doesn’t sound great, and the production is weird. Also it’s super forgettable, so that’s never a good sign,
As for the Hitbound exits, we lost Drowsy(again), Someone to blame, Love me or leave me alone, Ferrari, Sucks to know you(FU) and Obsessed. I kinda knew that Drowsy wasn’t gonna stick around, as no one knows where the hell they got this song from, so I’m alright with that one actually. Someone to blame wasn’t really gonna be a big hit it looks like, and it isn’t exactly the best song, so I’m alright with that one leaving also. Love me or leave me alone is Amelia Moore, so of course I’m cool with that leaving as it sucked, and we at long last get rid of the screaming bitch. Ferrari was once again another EDM song that was fucked over, so thanks for hating my taste in music Hits 1, and it will forever be missed, no matter if it’s trending or not, sucks to know you was pretty cool, but no one knows who this guy is, plus Piff never took the time to talk about him, so that really tells you that it wasn’t bound to debut, plus the name of the song alone, and lastly we have Obsessed, seriously, I thought y’all loved Charlie Puth, so why can’t we make this a hit, I know it’s not my favorite song anymore, but it’s still amazing. I mean this really should’ve been the single off Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2, and I don’t understand why it wasn’t, so I’m really disappointed in that. Goodbye great song, you will forever be missed.
Best Hitbound debut: Cheat Codes/Russell Dickerson-I remember
The abyss
Blurbs
Not that it did really anything this week, but I really love Bad Habit now. It sounds like the type of song that should be trending on social media, and honestly the vocals aren’t that bad on it. I also love the hook, and can’t seem to get it out of my head,” I wish I knew, I wish I knew you wanted me,” I hope it can do well here.
I’m also starting to like Are you entertained a lot more. I realized that maybe Russ doesn’t sound like a jackass after all, and the production is honestly so cool. I’ve really come to like how Ed fits in as well. Let’s see what it can do.
Easy Lover is also just not my thing at all. It’s super forgettable, and I was hoping for something a bit less basic for Ellie Goulding’s return. Oh well though,
Uh why is Glimpse of us moving up 3 spots? This shit is slow as all hell and very boring, at least the hymns they play at my church are actually uplifting and not boring like this. Can this please leave.
Um excuse me Hits 1, why is Beckys so hot moving into the top 20? We don’t need a song that was started by drama moving into that region, especially if it’s as bad as this one is.
I won’t is in the top 20 now. Worlds smallest violin will probably replace this though, even though it’s a year old. 😒
Um Hits 1, do we have a problem with Vegas? Come on, this song is trending right now, it should be in the top 10. Let’s make it get there please, cuz I’d love to see Doja have another hit here.
So Good moved up again, Can’t say I really care. Is this song even that popular?
Ok, it’s cool to see Bones move back up 4 spots, but I’m getting a bit sick of this now, can we get it out of here soon please?
Speaking of songs that I think are really starting to overstay, Shawn Mendes finally moved out of the top 10. Wow, I like this song, but man it was in the top 10 for a while. At least it’s run here is nice and long.
Victoria’s Secret is now in the top 10, and I’ve heard this a lot this past week on Hits 1, and as much as I want to like it, there’s still stuff holding it back for me. It’s nice to see Jax have her first top 10 hit here though, and I’d be interested to see if it can make the top 5 soon, even though it’s not the best song on the countdown right now.
Music for a sushi still looks like it’s barely being played anytime I go to check AirPlay. LMFAO,
I AIN’T WORRIED BOUT IT RIGHT NOW. I love I ain’t worried right now, it’s just a nice, simple and positive song that’s super fun and catchy. I hope it can make the top 5 soon. It’d even be cool to see this hit #1 here,
Looks like Maybe your the problem is gonna be coming to end soon with Ava’s new song Million Dollar Baby dropping this week.
It’s amazing to see Numb in the top 3 now, but I have a really bad feeling that this’ll be blocked by our current #1, even though I want this to hit #1 so badly.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Why is Late night talking back at #1. I was for sure that Sunroof would stay there, but I guess Hits 1 threw a not so surprising curve ball at us. I really don’t want this to be #1 though for a long time, cuz as much as I do like it, it’s actually just now starting to become annoying, plus the less Harry we have the better this countdown is, so yeah.
We lost Middle of a breakup, Me, Myself & I, and so surprisingly Supermodel. Middle of a breakup is a great song, but it got replaced by Don’t let the light go out. I really do wish that it stayed though, cuz as much as that made sense to do that, Middle of a breakup is a really great song, oh well though. Me, Myself & I was horrible, and I’m so happy that it never hit the top 10 even, and it was getting really really annoying, so I’m glad that it’s gone, but as for Supermodel,, I don’t think it should’ve left from #6, that’s way too high for it to leave from. It is losing traction elsewhere, but really, come on. I enjoyed it while it lasted though, and it’ll definitely be in my top 10 of the year.
#1 recommendation for Hits 1; David Guetta/Bebe Rexha-I’m Good(Blue)
