Harry Styles(1): Week of August, 6th 2022

Hello everybody and what’s up? This week we had probably the best countdown I’ve seen in the last 2 months, and the same goes for Hitbound. I don’t have much to say as far as announcements go, although I’m hoping to get Summer Madness going again this week or next week since I have off from school next week. I’ve been a bit stressed this week, but that’s just from school work and that’s why Summer Madness once again didn’t go through as planned, but it’s alright because once I get done with my schoolwork this week, I can finally get a breath of fresh air(for like a week). Anyways let’s get into the countdown, starting with this eeeks exits.

Debuts

Alright a week that actually has more than 3 debuts for once yay. We kick off with the new AJR song called I Won’t. This is really good. Jack Met sounds good here vocally and while the production does sound a bit off in the chorus, I kinda like it and I think it fits the vibe of the song and Jack’s voice really well. It also has some great buildup to it. I also really like the writing here. It’s about being able it find yourself and fit in with other people even when you don’t want to, and overall it just has a great vibe and great message. Overall really solid song, although not as good as Bang or away less sad. I hope it can do well though here.

Next we have the song that has been Rick-rolling people all over TikTok called Betty(Get money) by rapper Yung Gravy. This song is awesome to say the least. The Rick Ashley sample is(very deep Italian voice) Genius Genius Genius! I love it. Whoever produced this used it very appropriately, and mixed it very well with the trap sounds. Gravy has a really great voice and I like his flow throughout. I also love how in the second verse right before the second chorus there’s an encore of ladies singing,” Damn Gravy you so vicious, you so clean and so delicious, how come you ain’t got no misses, count dem paper count dem riches.” It’s a very catchy part of the song and makes it sound way better in my opinion and adds some spice to the mix. The writing here is super catchy for a rap song and is super nice to, I don’t usually like songs about money, but this I’m fine with since he’s not really bragging too much about getting money, and since he sounds like he’s having a hell of a fun time recording it. Overall this is a really awesome 80s sampling feel good rap song, and I hope it smashes here.

Next we have OneRepublic coming out of the abyss with I ain’t worried from Top Gun Maverick. They haven’t been on the countdown since Rescue me debuted 3 years ago, and now they’re back with this, and it’s pretty good. The whistling sounds awesome and makes it 100% more vibey, and the production while really basic fits the vibe well. Ryan Tedder sounds great here, and the writing is just so easy going and feel good that I can’t really help but love it. Overall nice debut, I wouldn’t mind if this smashed and hit #1 cuz it’s been years since OneRepublic has done that here.

Next we have Lizzo with the second single off her album Special called 2 be loved(am I ready) and I honestly don’t see what’s that special about this song. The production is very basic and Lizzo sounds fine and all, but it’s super forgettable, other than the fact that there’s a really nice key change at the end. I guess it’s alright, but it’s nothing like About Damn Time.

Finally, saving that best for last, rising up out of the abyss this week we have Don’t you worry by The Black eyed peas, Shakira and David Guetta. This is awesome, it sounds a lot like some of the peas older songs, which I love. Guetta’s production is really feel good and sounds awesome, The peas fit in nicely and have great flow, and Shakira fits in really nicely, even if her voice is slightly annoying in parts. The writing is feel good and awesome for any type of party, or for just relaxing and feeling and knowing that everything is gonna be alright, and that’s the great message this song brings. I release a lot of the stress from my mind when I listen to this song, and I’m reminded that,” hey you don’t have to worry about shit it’ll all get done soon.” And it honestly puts me in my happy place and makes me feel so good when I hear it. Amazing debut, please smash here.

Best Countdown debut-Black eyed peas/Shakira/David Guetta-Don’t you worry

Biggest jump of the week: Kate Bush-Running up that hill(+12)  I know that other people in the community are pissed at this, but I’m not cuz I personally love this song, such a great song no matter how old it is.

Biggest drop of the week: Ed Sheeran/Lil Baby-2Step(-7) out of all the songs I consider old on this countdown now, this one is easily the most tolerable, I am getting a bit sick of it though, so I don’t mind it dropping.

Debuts

What would you do re-entered. Letttttttttttttttttttttts gooooooooooooooo! My only question is why, is this being pushed outside of Hits 1 or something?

We got some interesting debuts this week, let’s starts off with not the best one, but the most interesting mashup in my opinion from Benny Blanco, BTS and Snoop Dogg. I’m not the biggest fan of BTS just because of the chart manipulation bullshit that happens with every single one of their songs, but their music overall isn’t that bad. Dynamite was amazing and Butter and Permission to dance were pretty good overall. Now this new one actually doesn’t have every single BTS member in it, there’s only 4 of them and I  believe Mikey said the four were J-Hope, Jung Kook, SUGA and RM, so pretty much the main 4 singers. They all do pretty good vocally here, it does sound a bit downtempo when the rappers start to come in on the second verse, but overall they don’t sound bad. I really like the chorus and the,” ohhhhhhhhhh! Ahhhhhhhhh!.” It just adds a lot of interesting stuff to the mix. Snoop Dogg does a Great job with his verse, my only complaint being that it could’ve been longer, but it’s alright because he still does great though  Benny Blancos production is really nice to, and it’s not what I’d expect coming from him sound wise, so he did a great job with this. Overall nice song, let’s see if it can debut.

Next we have someone who I’ve never heard of named Havana Winter with her song called Rain Rain Go Away. This is really nice, but a bit forgettable.  Havana sounds good here, and the production is really nice and I love the mixing of the the drums and trap. The writing is somewhat nice also, but like I said earlier forgettable. Overall good song, I guess I wouldn’t mind it debuting.

So I absolutely loved the last song we got from Calvin Harris called Stay with me off his new album Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2, so much that I decided to check out the whole album when it dropped on Friday, and it is a great little summer vibe album, I’ll be reviewing it in a post very soon, but for now let’s get into my absolute favorite song from it. There’s been a lot of speculation that Charlie Puth had a collab on this album since the day he tweeted,” me and Calvin Harris made a really fuckin good song together.” And fuckin good that song turned out to be, how fuckin good? Very fuckin good, in fact I’d call it fuckin amazing lol. It’s called Obsessed and it has some extra spice from some Dominican rapper named Shenseea(Pronounced Chin Say a). Let me first start off with Calvin Harrises production on this, it’s a great little summertime funk vibe and it’s mixed very well, especially the airings, If there’s one thing I love about the album as a whole, it’s how the String instruments were recorded and mixed, they sound amazing on every single song, and there’s no exception here. Shenseea has a really nice voice, and her accent makes her fit the vibe really well. Her verse is interesting and it adds a lot to the song, and it’s catchy. I also like how she comes back in and backs Charlie up a bit after his verse. Now let’s get to him cuz he’s the one that really shines here. He sounds amazing, and I’m very surprised at how well he does with the funk vibe, he fits in very well, and there’s a reason for that. On his verse, but not in the chorus(I don’t think) you can hear that he’s obviously sounding a bit different than he usually does and that’s because if you really listen to it, his voice is slightly down pitched, but not all the way, and that is the magic here folks, the down pitching makes Puths voice stand out very much because of the fact that his voice is already in a very low tone naturally, and since he does an amazing job hitting low notes usually, he also does a great job with high notes don’t get me wrong, but the down pitching affects it because his voice is already low, that it just makes it sound even deeper and more heavenly and amazing than it usually is.  I think that’s only on the verse that he does, but it might be on the chorus to. Now let’s get to the writing here also, it’s really catchy and fits in with vibe of the song, and I love the chorus writing and melody, as that's the most catchy part about the song itself. Overall though the whole thing is catchy and a great summer vibe. I hope it smashes here since Hits 1 seems to love Charlie Puth.

Next we have a song that I recommend you absolutely check out, even if you don’t follow Hits 1 cuz it’s awesome. It’s a new one from Blackbear off his upcoming album In Loving Memory and it’s called Toxic energy, and he decided to collab on this one with some band called The Used who’s lead singers name is Brett McCracken. This is just awesome. Travis Barkers production is amazing, and it reminds me a lot of older rock music from Metallica, AC/DC etc. It fits in really nice with Blackbears voice and he does a great job here vocally, and so does McCracken. His voice is a bit weird, but you get used to it after a few listens that it’s not that bad after all. Lyrically I also love this, it’s catchy, it’s fun and it’s relatable, all in a rock song. Hits 1 please make this a hit. Next.

Next we have someone named Mergui(pronounced Mer gee) with  his song Sucks to know you(FU) and this is a nice little alternative jam. Mergui sounds great and fits in really well, and the production is a nice little alternative beat. The lyrics are super fun and catchy to, and it’s also relatable. Overall nice little song. Next

Lastly we have the return of DJ Khalad on another collab with Drake and he also brings along Lil baby on this one. I didn’t like Khalad’s 2 collabs with Drake from 2020, and Drake and Lil baby had a few songs last year that weren’t really the best, but I wasn’t feeling iffy going into this because I heard that with the title of this song they’d be sampling the classic hit Stayin Alive from The Bee Gees. Now when I say sample I thought it was going to be like the sample in Betty(Get money) where they literally mix the sample with the beat, but that’s not what happened, what happened was Drake sampling part of the chorus from the song. Uh alright, I guess I’m ok with that. Drake sounds really good here, and he actually has some pretty nice flow here, and Lil baby doesn’t do a bad job on his verse either. The production is nice and dark and really bassey, so everyone fits in, and it’s the stuff I’d expect to hear from Khalad. Overall not bad, but I do wish the actual Bee Gees song was mixed in so we could’ve had Betty 2.0.

We lost TV, Summer Renaissance, Valley of lies and Booty(again). I didn’t really care about any of these songs, nor did I see any of them debuting anyways, so these don’t really matter.

Best Hitbound debut: Calvin Harris/Charlie Puth/Shenseea-Obsessed

The abyss

Harry Styles-Music for a sushi Restaurant

Doja Cat-Get into it(Yuh)

Lauren Spencer-Smith-Flowers

Harry Styles-Daylight

Morgan Wallen-Wasted on you

Drake/Future/Tems-Wait for U

Nessa Barrett-Die First

Kane Brown-Grand

Die first and Grand are now in the abyss, which means both of the horrible country songs that the radio industry is trying to make hits are now here. Hopefully both of them leave very soon cuz I see absolute no appeal in either of them whatsoever. As for Die First, at least it’s still here because I’m really starting to like this song a lot more with every listen.

We lost Substance, which sucks because it’s a great song. I don’t get why this new pop-punk stuff from Demi is just not becoming popular. Oh well.

Blurbs

Middle of a breakup moved up 2 spots. I’ve actually come to really enjoy this song after it was played a lot this week, so it’s nice to see it moving. It should be higher though.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! I think Hits 1 is starting to get the memo that a screaming bitch shouldn’t be on the countdown because I feel everything moved down 3 spots and decreased In AirPlay this week. Please leave next week, we don’t need bitches who scream the chorus of their song on the countdown.

It’s nice to see both Easy Lover and Vegas move up 5 spots, especially the latter though. I love the Elvis sample in it. I hope it becomes Doja’s first #1 song here. That would be awesome,

Nice to see Ass it was moving back down another 3 spots. If y’all haven’t checked out HRishK Musics fictional story of the blogger community vs Harry the evil clown, make sure to check it out on his blog, I’ll link it below. Yes I know it slams Harry Styles, but I mean come on people he’s more overrated than Drake is now, and I kinda have a problem with that, cuz y’all know there’s other artists I like who I feel are getting streams taken from Harry Styles stans(most EDM artists).

While Obsessed is on Hitbound, it’s nice to see Potion jumping big, despite it losing traction elsewhere. I’d be alright with this sticking around as it’s a nice Summer vibe.

On the other hand, could we get Me, Myself & I outta here please. It hasn’t even hit the top 10 yet, and it’s been here for almost 3 months. There’s no need to keep this utter crap around Hits 1.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Why couldn’t Numb be in the top 10.

On the bright side though the guy who sounds heavenly down pitched and a BTS member score the top 10 with Left and Right. I really like this, and it’d be cool to see it make top 5 or hit #1, but both of their representations on Hitbound are way better.

Why can’t Supermodel and When you’re gone switch places, that’s getting a bit annoying.

Looks like both When you’re gone and Maybe your the problem are both pulling who do you loves still, but they’re not the little song that could from 3 years ago since neither of them will probably hit #1 at this point.

Why am I just now starting to Love Sunroof 2 weeks after it’s last week at #1. It’s such a fun song of the Summer.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I saw this coming, but why did it have to be this week that Late night talking hit #1. We just made history last week, so why must we ruin that? I like this song, and I get it Harry is popular and he has a really good voice on this song, but can we just give him a fucking break people? Just for a few months or a year, could have literally nothing from Harry, it would be awesome if that was real. The guy is more overrated than Drake is now I feel, and Hits 1 doesn’t make it any better by making every single one of his songs a #1 hit. Again I like the song a lot, but if it stays up here too long I feel like this’ll end up being worse than Ass it was in my opinion, and this is the better song out of the two, so I would really not like that to happen. I do hope this is a one and done #1, but I already know it won’t be. 🤦🏻‍♂️

We lost Numb little bug, First class, Sheluvme, Boyfriend and Out of time. Numb little bug and Boyfriend were getting really old and had great runs here, so I don’t mind them leaving, and I really hope that Both Em and Dove can have more hits soon. First Class was a great song to, and it spent some time at #1 on my chart right before So Far So Good came out, so I’m pretty happy with its run here, although it never made it into the top 15. Sheluvme was good, but I get it, it didn’t have much radio appeal behind it, so it makes sense that it’s gone. Lastly Out of time was decent and really boring, so I don’t mind it leaving, but we didn’t have to have it leave from the top 10. Top 10 exits are dumb, please get the memo behind that Hits 1.

Tiesto/Tate McRae(6): Week of April, 29th 2023
