Debuts

Alright so I’m not too thrilled about this first one, it’s Enemy by Imagine Dragons, from the popular Anime series Arcane League if legends, now let’s be clear I have nothing against the show cuz overall I just don’t watch Anime(honestly it’s not really my kind of thing) but it’s this song that really bothers me, and it just kinda disappoints me that something this bad would be the theme for a really popular show. Why is this bad, well for one Dan Reynolds just doesn’t sound that great here, his vocals just don’t fit with the production that well, but his rapping is actually really good in the bridge(since this isn’t the JID version) the production is the main issue that makes this bad though, not Dan himself. It’s just very strange, and I don’t really like the,” Look out for yourself.” Thing. I also don’t really like the thing in the background with the Down pitched voice(this is probably the only time you’ll hear me say that) it just doesn’t fit in here cuz this isn’t a dance song, so it seems kinda out of place. The writing is okay, but it’s not really the best either. Yeah overall not too impressed.

Alright next we have Big energy from Latto, and this ones grown on me a bit. Now y’all probably think I’d hate this cuz I hate music that talks about sex(like Need to know), but this I don’t hate, and that’s because it’s not talking too specifically about sex, or it’s not getting too sexual, so I don’t mind. The production here is super cool and vibey, and Latto actually sounds pretty good, she’s got a pretty good flow, and her voice isn’t overly annoying. Overall can this be a hit? You’ll just have to hang on to find out.

Next we have the song that was the highest debut on my personal chart this week(that will probably be taken over by a song that debuted Hitbound this week, more on that later) it’s Light switch by Charlie Puth. Now I won’t go into too much detail here cuz I reviewed this last week on Hitbound, but this is pretty good. Charlie sounds amazing here vocally, and I love this 80s style production, and it reminds me of Stay a lot. This is also really catchy to lyrically and very well written. Overall will it be Stay 2.0 you’re just gonna have to hang on to find out.

Lastly debuting all the way up at #13(woah) we have the latest single from The Weeknd’s album Dawn FM called Sacrifice. The more I hear this, the more I’m starting to like it more than Moth to a flame., but I honestly still prefer I heard you’re Married over both songs. This is really great though. The production is a really great little 80s beat, which I love, it sounds so good. The Weeknd sounds amazing here vocally, and the writing was very well done, lyrically it’s mostly catchy to. Overall awesome song hopefully it can do well here.

Beat debut: The Weeknd-Sacrifice

Biggest jump of the week: Lauren Spencer-Smith-Fungers crossed(+9)  Yay this is as of right now my current favorite countdown song, now that could change depending on what debuts or Re-enters, but for right now it’s awesome. I’m so impressed how it’s already top 5 in AirPlay to. Hopefully that means it can jump huge again next week and be a huge hit. Amazing job with this Hits 1.

Biggest drop of the week: Swedish house mafia/The weeknd-Moth to a flame(-6) I kinda expected this to be honest, I’m kinda growing into Sacrifice more at the moment also, so it probably makes sense that this songs run is coming to an end here.

Coi Leroy-Anxiety(Debut)

So before we get into Hitbound I’m just gonna address something with all the people who come here from my social media because obviously y’all are probably looking at the little blurb after Fingers crossed and thinking to yourselves what the hell does Trey mean by pulled a Sunday best, so simply put people a Sunday best is a song that airs both the countdown and Hitbound at the same time(when it literally shouldn’t be happening) me and other bloggers use this term because on some random weekend last year Sunday best from Surfaces randomly decided that it would air both the countdown and Hitbound, and that’s the first time a countdown song has aired both shows, so I hope that clears y’all’s confusion and I’ll be using that term now on this blog if that happens again(as it probably will) Let’s get on with Hitbound though cuz oh shit! We’ve got some great debuts this week, especially in the EDM department.

First order of business, The motto Re-entered Hitbound. Will it debut? I hope so, I mean this is our only EDM song that debuted that apparently wasn’t on the surveys(which I’m still for some reason not getting) though and we all know Hits 1 is obviously gonna make the big debut of the week a hit though, so we’ll see what happens with this competition. I’m glad it’s back though, and with it  being back I hope they push it and it can maybe get a little rise on my chart. Alright next.

Anitta dropped a new song yesterday called Boys don’t cry. This is really good. The production is really fun and upbeat, Anitta sounds great, and it’s a bit catchy. A bit forgetful, but still really good. Hopefully it can debut.

Wow! This is the first time in what feels like forever that we’ve had a Charli XCX song on Hits 1. This ones called Beg for you with someone named Rina Siwayama, and it’s pretty good. Apparently this samples some 200s dance track, but I’m not sure what it’s called, anyways the production is really nice and upbeat here, Charli sounds great, and Rina sounds amazing in her verse. I like the writing to, it’s catchy, overall great debut.

Finally, finally I’ve been waiting for a month and it’s finally here. Next up we’ve got When I’m gone from Alesso and Katy Perry. This is gaining traction everywhere now, and for good reason to cuz it’s awesome. I loved Katy’s song with Zedd from 3 years ago called 365, and also Never really over. This doesn’t quite compare to those, but this is still really great. Katy sounds amazing here, and Alesso did a really fantastic job on this production. I also like how he incooperated some down pitched vocals into the verses, because they sound really great when  blended with Katy’s vocals. The lyrics are also super catchy and fun. Overall this is just a really fun song. Next.

I think we’re gonna shift here, so first I’m gonna talk about this last debut on the list, then we’ll go to the new Walker Hayes, and then we’ll save the best one for last. Alright so let’s go to Niki,s song first called Every summertime. Now this is kinda funny because apparently Niki is a K-pop stat who sings under 88Rising, and it’s kinda coincidental that now we have her, and Bibi here both having songs with that label, but obviously the label itself isn’t credited on this song(for some odd reason) anyways this is really not my type of thing. The older romantic vibe is just not something I enjoy, and Niki doesn’t really have that good of a voice. The writing here is actually decent, so I’ll give credit for that, but other than that I’ve heard better songs. Next. (Editors note they ended up replacing this song on all the Hitbound re-airs with a different song, however I’m gonna leave my review for this song here because I highly believe it’ll return next week as it’s kinda just barely starting to gain a bit of traction on mediabase, You can find my review for the very last song on this list, which is Anxiety by Coi Leroy below, and then below that we have Walker Hayes, and The Chainsmokers)

Alright y’all, so it’s currently Sunday, and I thought this post was gonna go up originally on Saturday but that didn’t happen obviously, and it’s because of this weird Hitbound segment right here. Obviously y’all can maybe tell, or maybe not but the Hitbound list looks a bit longer than usual, and that’s because they literally replaced that last song that I just reviewed with another one(you have got to be kidding me) that is the dumbest and most annoying thing I’ve ever seen Hits 1 do(yes even more dumb than putting Ed Sheeran at #1 for 14 weeks) it’s never happened before either, so I’m really surprised, but I’m also really frustrated that they did this cuz yesterday I got up at 5AM just to get started writing out the reviews for the Hitbound segment cuz I obviously knew that I was gonna write a lot about High debuting(yeah it took me half an hour to write all that crap out for that one song. Wooo! I did it though cuz it’s awesome) so now knowing that Hits 1 did that it’s obviously a bit frustrating, and that’s why this post is delayed(cuz I couldn’t listen to this one song last night as I had other plans, so I didn’t get to it until today) so uh anyways this other new song is Anxiety by Coi Leroy. I won’t go into too much detail, but I will say that this is actually better than TWINNEM, which was her last song to show up that dropped out of Hitbound a few months ago. The beat sounds really awesome, and Coi Leroy actually sounds pretty good here. The writing is very good and catchy also. Overall I really wouldn’t mind if this became a hit.

Alright y’all I did not ask for more Walker Hayes on this damn station. I tried listening to some of the songs off of his debut album Country stuff, and man they suck. He’s not even what I’d call a real country artist, he’s more of a trap artist at this point, and great news he’s coming to Jacksonville  next month(glad I don’t have tickets to see him) now this is one of the worst songs I’ve probably ever heard in the country genre, and I’d say it’s slightly worse than U gurl. Walker Hayes doesn’t sound great here, and this beat is not even a country beat, it’s more of like a really bad accustic trap beat(if you wanna hear an actual good trap beat though wait until you here about this next song though) anyways yeah so really bad production, and Walker Hayeses very southern and horrible sounding vocals when paired together do not go well. Now the writing on this thing is actually decent and it’s kinda catchy, I’ll give it that, but it’s just not good enough to hold onto my attention for very long. Shall we move onto much better songs now, I think we shall(and yes we will(remember when Wandered to LA debuted Hitbound I think I said that exactly how I wrote it that time, coincidental I think not)

And now ladies yall might wanna prepare to read a big fat paragraph of why I absolutely am already in love with this next song, fun fact I’ve been in love with this for the entire week, although I didn’t hear the full thing until it dropped yesterday. Man this song might send Wandered to LA down in my rankings, and if it grows on me enough(which just might actually happen) it could take over #1 song in the coming weeks on my personal chart. Alright so let’s just sort of get to the point here. After 2 years(yes 2 actual really long and kinda boring years) New York EDM duo The Chainsmokers are back with the first single from their 4th coming studio album which rumors have it drops in April. Now usually these guys release 1 single at a time, but when I was up on their YouTube livestream the other night watching before the premiere of this song I heard them say that this is the only single their dropping before the album comes out, so now we won’t be getting single after single after single from these guys, which is really nice. Now obviously there were some really mixed opinions on their last album from 2 years ago called World War joy. I did an initial review of the album itself after I almost(but very sadly) didn’t get to see these guys in concert. If you wanna go see my full story behind that go check out my personal chart post from 2 weeks ago cuz I kinda explain it although I’m not gonna go into detail on why I couldn’t see them cuz it’s kinda private, but let’s just say I was so hyped to see these guys then just some random shit happened and I didn’t get to see them. Now if you asked me what my favorite song from WWJ was I’d say P.S I hope you’re happy, with Blink-182. Cuz it’s amazing, everything about it is amazing. I also loved takeaway though, and I still do to this day though. There were some really weird songs on the album though like See the way, who do you love, and Push my luck. They were all weird cuz the drops in them had all these mumbled jumbled vocals, and kinda minimalistic production to them. Overall I didn’t hate them though cuz the other sides of the production in the verses of those songs were very chill and mellow, so I didn’t mind too much. Now after listening to this new song I’m gonna tell y’all one thing, it’s gonna take everything you thought was wrong on WWJ(like I obviously just pointed out) and it’ll take it all crumble it into a ball and throw the ball into the back of your brain where it’ll be stored and forgotten forever(at least that’s what it did for me) or in simpler words this will make you realize huh maybe these guys did evolve their production style a bit(cuz they did), Now one last thing before we get into the song itself, this is a fun fact this song was actually supposed to be an unreleased song from the Kid Laroi, The Chainsmokers actually did write it for him, and it’s his style very much, but after doing a demo of it he didn’t like how his voice sounded on it, and just said fuck it I’ll sell it to yall and gave it to Drew and Alex and Wa-la folks they’ve produced it to make it their own, and it’ll probably be a smash even without Laroi on it. Now I think it’s finally time for me to quit yapping about the background of the song, and for me to actually get into the song itself though and why it’s so good. The production here is absolute 🔥, this trap beat sounds awesome, the tempo is nice and fast, and it’s melodies work well with the lyrics themselves perfectly. There’s also a beat change at the end where it goes into more of a tropical house style beat, but they mixed it with a trap, and that mixing sounds so good. I also like the down pitched vocal at the very end(y’all know that’s my style) it just makes it even more interesting. Now let’s talk vocals here, so in the beginning Drew is kinda talking, and while that’s kinda weird, I don’t mind it cuz it ultimately builds up to the really good parts of the song where he sings in a really good high tone, and those parts sound absolutely awesome. Lyrically this is once again very Kid Laroi style, I feel kinda as it’s the story behind Stay a bit, and that this is supposed to be the pre-cursor to that song, because it’s all about someone changing, when they clearly haven’t. Now I love this writing, and I think that change is really hard for a person to do, so I really appreciate what this song is going for lyrically, just like Stay did. Overall I think I’ve said enough this is fuckin awesome. I’m lookin forward to it it being a smash hit.

We lost Billie Bossa Nova, LaSt DaY On EaRtH, and Jigsaw this week. The latter 2 sucked so Im happy that they’re gone, and Billie Bossa Nova while pretty solid was never gonna become a hit anyways, so I don’t mind it going away. Oh wait I almost forgot we also lost It’ll Be Okay by Shawn Mendes, while it was a really great song, it was really starting to fade on me though, there’s just other songs I’d rather be hits at the moment rather than that song. It was still a great song though and will be missed.

Daisy the great/AJR-Record player

Juice wrld/Justin Beiber-Wandered to L.A

Record player is kinda starting to grow on me as it’s getting more spins. I’ll give my full thoughts if it debuts though.

Yeah I think I’ll talk about the other obvious thing more in the blurbs section, as I already wrote those out before I put the abyss section in here.

Hitbound songs that make sense being here.

Tiesto/Ava Max-The motto

Avril Lavigne/Blackbear-Love it when you hate me

88Rising/BiBi-The weekend

Anitta-Boys don’t cry

The Walters-I love you so

Alesso:Katy Perry-When I’m gone

The Chainsmokers-High

Fireboy DML/Ed Sheeran-Peru

NiKi-Every summertime(I guess I’ll put this here since it might show up next week)

Wow! This is a really good amount of songs that make sense being on Hitbound. I’m pretty sure this is the most amount of songs we’ve had make sense in a long time.

Songs that need to debut to make sense.

Blxst/Ty Dolla $ign/Tyga-Chosen
Encanto cast-We don’t talk about Bruno
Altego/Brittney Spears/Ginuwine-Toxic Pony
ALYA-Pleasure is mine

We got some new songs starting to gain traction now. I haven’t listened to Toxic pony, nor pleasure is mine yet, but uhhh We don’t talk about Bruno? Really? Why is that getting AirPlay it makes no sense. I’ll explain more on why I don’t like it if it debuts.

Blurbs

Didn’t I say last week that Do it to it would start dropping, yep I was right. Just watch as both High and When I’m gone take this crappy no good house song out. We don’t need it it’s not creative and it’s a stupid excuse of a song. I’m so happy that it’s at the bottom.

Also why is woman starting to fall. I thought this was supposed to be a big hit.

I hate U fell also. Ok don’t care.

Yay for Need to know falling. This is the worst Doja cat song I’ve ever heard. Let’s get it outta here please.

I feel good is starting to flop. Oh well I kinda started losing interest in it anyways, it’s a pretty good song though.

Why does Ghost town keep on dropping them jumping that’s a bit annoying. Come on let’s make this a true hit.

Smokin out the window jumped again. The drop/jump thing it’s starting to do is kinda getting annoying.

One right now is back in the top 10. Ok I guess, but I’m kinda starting to lose interest in this to.

Let’s fucking goooooooooooo! Shivers dropped out of the top 5 completely, and I’m glad cuz I became sick of this song a long time ago.

abcdefu is now in the top 5. That’s awesome let’s hope it can hit #1 here.

Motherfucker. Overpass Graffiti is at #2, why must Hits 1 Stan Ed Sheeran, it’s so annoying. This doesn’t even make any sense either like I’m pretty sure Peru has more AirPlay on other stations than this song does. Let’s hope it doesn’t hi #1, but I bet It will.

That’s what I want from Lil Nas X becomes Nases first #1 on Hits 1. Nice, I’m so happy, although I probably won’t be for too long cuz then Ed Sheeran will probably dethrone this next week. At least we get a break from him though. This is also the third song from a black artist to hit #1 on the countdown, preciously DaBaby(who’s is really no longer credited for his #1), and Juice wrld also bit #1 on this countdown with Levitating and Come and go. Nice job to Hits 1 for making it happen once more.

Speaking of Juice wrld though. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Wandered to LA left the countdown, now the good thing is it’s still in the abyss, but the thing that sucks is that I don’t see it coming back as it’s not really gaining a significant amount of traction outside of Hits 1, oh well at least we have High if it doesn’t come back though, you lose a great song, and you gain a great one am I right? Yeah I am lol. As for the other exits. U gurl sucked ass, so I’m fine that it’s gone, but now we have to with about Deloreon though that’s the problem. Happier than ever was getting old, and had a great run here anyways, so I’m fine that it’s gone, and oh my oh my it was really not a good week for Justin Beiber on this countdown now was it, as Stay also left. It had an amazing run here, and I’m surprised that it even hit #1 here for 6 weeks. Overall it’s a song I’ll never forget, and it will be truly missed.

#1 recommendation for Hits 1; Iann Dior/Travis Barker/Machine Gun Kelly-thought it was

Thank y’all so much for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.

Tiesto/Tate McRae(6): Week of April, 29th 2023

Wow, this community is deserted. Why did I leave all of sudden with no word
