Ed Sheeran(14): Week of January, 22nd 2022

Ed Sheeran(14): Week of January.22nd 2022

Hello Everybody. I hope y’all are having a great day so far. This weeks countdown was pretty good I’d say, but the #1 while breaking a record is getting super annoying now, and overall Hitbound is getting way worse. Stay tuned for this review cuz in this post I’ll be explaining a little theory I have about Hits 1 and dance music, that may or may not be true. We’ll have to see what happens in the next few weeks to see what happens with it, but comment below what y’all think of this theory once you read the post. One quick thing though before we get into it, as you all know I’m going to school while doing this, and recently I started another new semester, with some really hard fucking classes, so with that being said I might sometimes delay my weekend countdown reviews a bit, it just depends on when I have to do schoolwork, cuz now I may have to work on the weekends, but not a ton, I’ll still have plenty of time to blog and review the countdown no matter how bad or boring it gets. With that being said let’s get into it starting with the lone exit of  the week.

Debuts

Our only debut this week is Fingers crossed by Lauren-Spencer-Smith. This is really amazing. It’s my second favorite song right now, If you’ve seen my personal chart. Lauren sounds amazing here, and I really like the production. I like how it’s accustic, but there’s also some snaps Incorporated into it, overall that mixes for a really nice sound. Lyrically this is also really great, and it’s very catchy. Overall this is already so popular, and I hope it brings that popularity over here, and becomes a hit.

Biggest jump of the week: SZA-I hate U(+8)  I don’t really care about this song, as it’s just okay at best, but it’s good to see SZA get some success here.

Biggest drop of the week: Billie Eilish-Hapoier than ever(-6) It kinda sucks to see this song drop all the way to the bottom of the countdown, but at the same time it’s getting kinda old, so I don’t mind too much.

Debuts

It’ll Be Okay Re-entered. Nice although I don’t really see this being a big hit here cuz it’s not charting anywhere else. I’ll take it though cuz I love it.

Our first Debut is another unreleased song(that’s probably a non -single) from Billie Eilishes album Happier than ever titled Billie Bossa Nova. This is way better than Male fantasy, but it’s not as good as Happier than ever or even Therefore I am, that being said though it is very solid. I like groovey production here, and Billie sounds really good to. The lyrics are catchy to, but some of them do get a little too repetitive, and I also can’t tell what it’s about, so good song just needs some clarification on the lyrics. Overall though I wouldn’t mind if it did well here though.

Next we have Conan Gray with his new song called Jigsaw. I went into this thinking it was gonna be great, and I came out saying to Myself.” This is the worst Conan Gray song I have ever heard.” Yeah really, I mean that. This starts off like Heather with a very slow production style, and then it evolves into an alternative rock song(just like Happier than ever does) and when it gets to the upbeat part, Conan just does not sound good at all, but he doesn’t sound great in the first part either, he sounds kinda uncharismatic to me. The writing is also just stupid here, I don’t understand the message of this song, and whatever it is, it just doesn’t sound good. The lyrics aren’t at all catchy either. I also just really hate when him and the background singers( I think) just shout the word Jigsaw a bunch of times, it’s super annoying. Overall Conan can do way better than this, hell even Heather was better. Let’s move on from this garbage song.

After almost 3 years Charlie Puth returns with new music(and The Chainsmokers are returning next week. Can’t wait for that) anyways Charlie Puth is back though this week with Light switch, and I’m honestly really digging this. This has major Stay vibes. Fun fact to is that Puth co-wrote Stay. The beat on this song though sounds so good, I love the 80s style, and I like the light switch sound, that mixes really well together. Charlie sounds really good here to, and the lyrics are really good and super catchy. Overall not bad for Charlie Puth.

Next we have more stupid artists and stupid songs(yay) so Hits 1 has tried to make Claire Rosinkranz a thing over the past year and a half, and honestly they need to give up on her at this point cuz it’s real obvious that she sucks at singing, and creating music. She brings us Don’t miss me this week, and it is by far the worst thing I have ever heard from her. Her last 2 songs were decent, but not good, and this is horrible. First off the beginning is stupid, she sounds so stupid when she says,” check 1. 2, I’m just gonna start singing.” Then she starts singing and my God she sounds horrible. Lyrically this is super boring to, and it’s not too catchy. The production is okay, but it could be better. Overall not impressed.

Did anyone here expect Jax to return to Hits 1? I did. This is her latest song called To all the boys I’ve loved before, and it’s really good. I wouldn’t say it’s as good as 90s kids was, but I love it. The style she went for here is so cool. I love the trap beat, and Jax sounds surprisingly really good with it. The lyrics are catchy and the writing is great, and overall it’s a fine little tune. I wouldn’t mind this sticking around. Next.

Lastly we have GAYLE with Ur just horny(yeah Your looking at that song title right) and honestly this is not that bad at all. GAYLE sounds really good here, and the production is awesome, I love how it’s a more alternative style, and she fits in very well with that. Lyrically she did a great job writing this to, and it’s mostly catchy. Overall not as good as abcdefu, but I’d love to see this become a hit. Great song.

A lot of songs from last weeks Hitbound went into The abyss this week, so I’ll get to them in a second, but we only lost 2 songs this week. Those songs were After You(sighs) and Circles around this town. These weren’t gonna be huge hits, I don’t really care about Circles around this town anyways because it was kinda forgettable, but After you, really Hits 1. Now I had a theory in my mind and part of that theory was true. This week I predicted that After you would remain on Hitbound, and then it would leave next week when High debuts, since Hits 1 just really seems to hate EDM artists who aren’t Marshmello or The Chainsmokers, but I guess I was wrong partly, as they just couldn’t keep this. That being said there’s another part to this little theory that I’ll get to in the blurbs section, but as for the song itself, I love this song, I mean they really should’ve kept it around for longer even if it wasn’t gonna be a hit, but no this is Hits 1 where they essentially hate all non-mainstream EDM producers, Fuck that, anyways After You is still one of my current favorites and will definitely continue to be one of my favorites until I somehow get sick of it, so you can still expect to see it on my personal chart. I’m just a bit disappointed that they picked up on it, and literally did nothing with it.

Best Hitbound debut: Charlie Puth-Light switch

The Abyss

CKay-Love nwantiti(ah ah ah)

Chloe-Have mercy

Daisy the great/AJR-Record player

Latto-Big energy

The Weeknd-Sacrifice

Imagine dragons-Enemy

4 songs join the abyss this week. Record player, Big energy, Sacrifice and Enemy. Sacrifice should’ve really debuted the countdown, but I guess for whatever reason didn’t, so it’s here now. I’d expect all of these new songs to debut soon, as for Have mercy and Love nwantiti, I’m not sure if they’ll debut/Re-enter or not. A few songs leave to, those songs being Edamame, Life goes on and Sad girlz luv money. Edamame sucked and was never gonna Re-enter anyways cuz it’s been there for way too long, same goes for Life goes on. Sad girlz luv money had a small chance to make it back I think, but I don’t like it, so I don’t care anyways. Yeah so I don’t care about any of the songs that left the abyss.

Hitbound songs that make sense being here

Fireboy DML/Ed Sheeran-Peru

Charlie Puth-Light switch

88Rising/BiBi-The weekend

Avril Lavigne/Blackbear-Love it when You hate Me

The Walters-I love you so

Wow this is kinda a lame list, I wish there were more songs on Hitbound right now that made sense, at least 3 of the 5 are great though.

Songs that need to debut to make sense.

Charli XCX-Good ones

TWICE-The feels

Blxst/Ty Dolla $ign/Tyga-Chosen

Alssso/Katy Perry-When I’m Gone

Tiesto/Ava Max-The motto(as a Re-entry)

There’s a few new songs that keep moving in and out of the top 50 on Mediabase, so I’ll have to follow them more to see if they can stick around there and make sense if they ever debut here.

Blurbs

Somehow Stay is still here, I don’t know how that’s even possible, but that’s amazing even though it’s kinda getting a bit old.

I am woman is sitting at #28 and only jumped 2 spots this week, now somehow even though it’s very low on the countdown it somehow always has to come into rotation whenever I listen to Hits 1 during the week, and my God Emmy Melis voice when she sings that one part of the song,” If you got it got it got it got it, If you got it got it got it  got it going on.” Man her voice sounds so scratchy and horrible there that it makes it almost unbearable to listen to. I’ve considered putting this in orange cuz her voice is so annoying, but I just haven’t gotten there yet.

U gurl is flopping, which is good. I took a listen to some of the other songs off of Walker Hayes debut album Country stuff, and let me just say that he cannot make a single good country song(besides fancy like) the one represented here isn’t the worst sounding one, but this is still pretty bad. Hopefully it’ll be out soon.

(And now part 2 of Treys random theory, even though he’s not a scientist, and even though this prediction will probably be wrong.) Alright so back to part 2 of my little theory involving dance music and Hits 1. As y’all can probably see by this weeks countdown that Do it to it is not really doing well here, so here’s my latest prediction that has to do with this really bad song( and it’ll pay off if it happens, at least for me probably, for others it just depends) alright so with all this talk about The Chainsmokers making a huge return next week I predict that the new song is going to end Do it to it, and it’s run here, and it is gonna flop big time. It’s kinda obvious at this point Hits 1 hates house music(unless it’s a smash hit from Regard that was my #1 song of 2021) and that they kinda love The Chainsmokers, so it would make sense if this new song when it makes the countdown will force Do it to it out, and I’d be fine with that cuz the song sucks anyways. Will this theory stick uh Your just gonna have to hang on to find out.

Seriously Hits 1(sighs) why did Wandered to L.A get the second biggest drop of the week. Come on now this is a really great song, and there’s no reason it should’ve dropped(although it’s not doing the best on AirPlay) but whatever I can only do with whatever Hits 1 does, so you do you I guess.

WYD now? Is jumping. Nice to see that happen on its second week in the countdown.

Smokin out the window is always dropping then jumping, I guess it just can’t decide what to do here.

For tonight jumped and reached a new peak this week. That’s nice to see.

Ghost town is rebounding. Nice.

Easy on me dropped out of the top 5, It is kinda disappointing to see that it was blocked out of #1, but at the same time it is kinda getting annoying with how much they overplay it, so while it kinda sucks I’m alright with it.

On the other side of Adele’s countdown run, Oh my God is moving up the countdown, and is now in the top 10. Keep it up Hits 1, I’m liking this song a lot.

Wow cold heart dropped. Not a big deal but kinda noteable.

Better days is now the second previous Hits 1 to watch to make it to the top 3. That’s awesome, although this song does not seem like it has enough AirPlay to be up there. At least with how much I hear it, which is not a whole lot anymore.

Shivers held at #1 for the 14th week in a row, and with that it has officially broken the record for most weeks spent at #1, while I will say that I quite like Sucker a lot more than this, and while it doesn’t deserve to be #1 for this many weeks, I must say that Spyder Harrison wasn’t wrong when he said,” Ed sheeran has had nothing short of huge accomplishments on this countdown.” This is very true, and this is yet another really huge accomplishment he’s achieved here, this being the biggest one yet. Alright I’m sick of this song now, can we please have it drop out of the top spot next week, and let Lil Nas X take that.

The only exit was Who’s in your head. I liked this song a lot, and actually still do, it had a great run here, if only it could’ve made it higher than #4 that would’ve been awesome, but oh well. Great run and it will be missed.

#1 recommendation for Hits 1: The Weeknd/Lil Wayne-I heard You’re married

Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one. .
