Ed Sheeran(12): Week of January, 8th 2022
Hello everyone and welcome back to another countdown review, and this countdown is becoming super boring to follow not gonna lie, I mean the #1 song won’t change, barely anything is moving and nothing makes sense logically. The good part about this week though is that we had a decent amount of Hitbound debuts that I get to review. No exits this week, so without further ado let’s get into it

Biggest jump of the week: Adele-Oh My God. I’m so happy that this made a big move despite not having a ton of AirPlay(I mean I never even heard it all week) still though a very well deserved jump to say the least. I’m loving this song right now, and hopefully it can hit #1 sometime soon.
Biggest drop of the week: Olivia Rodrigo-Traitor. Uhhhhhhhhhhhh how is this still here? I don’t even know cuz it didn’t get like any AirPlay at all this week, so I’m very surprised that it didn’t drop out. Ok though I guess You do You Hits 1, even if that means keeping songs with barely any AirPlay on the countdown. I think this is why it was a bit diverse this week when I listened cuz usually I’d be hearing this throughout the week, but not now. Kinda disappointed but oh well.

Debuts
Alright so we have a lot of new music this week, and to be honest when I saw this list I was like Oh Shit this gonna be very hard to rank but I think I’ve made up My mind on the way it’s gonna go. We start with the new single from The Weeknd’s new album Dawn FM called Sacrifice, and an interesting thing about this is that it’s actually co-produced by the guys in Swedish house mafia. Now this is My 2nd favorite song from the album, My personal favorite was the collab with Lil Wayne called I heard You’re married, that’s not to say that this isn’t great though because it is. The 80s beat here is amazing, and so well produced that when I listen to this(or any song on the album in particular) I feel like I’m in the 80s, it’s that good, and to know that it’s produced with 21st century stuff, it makes it look and sound even better. The Weeknd really blends in well here, and he sounds absolutely amazing vocally. Lyrically it’s very catchy also, and I feel as if these lyrics would’ve actually been on a Micheal Jackson track back in the 80s, they sound like something that an 80s style disco artist would sing, and it’s great how they incorporated them into this song. Overall very good song, y’all should definitely check out the album if You haven’t yet.
Alright so next we have another new song that features Ed Sheeran(great) this ones a remix of a song called Peru from some Nigerian Singer named Fireboy DML. Alright so I’m not into Afro-pop I’m sorry but this just isn’t for Me, that being said it is slightly better than Essence was though, so I’ll give it credit for that. Fireboy DML just doesn’t have a good voice here, and I can’t tell what the majority of the lyrics are saying because of the language barrier. Ed Sheeran himself can’t even save this song, He just doesn’t fit in here, or sound good. I’d really like to like the production here as it’s a bit on the trap side, but I can’t cuz it’s so minimalistic there’s literally no bass line, or melody here. Overall not that impressed, hopefully this isn’t a hit.
Alright so next we have a song I reviewed a few months ago, but never made it to the countdown, but after getting some radio adds it’s back now. It’s Woman from Doja Cat, and I’ve gotta say this is pretty good. She sounds great in the chorus, and in the rap verse, but she sounds a bit quiet in the singing verse, and that’s what holds it back from being great. The production is really good here, and it’s suited for both the singing and rapping I feel. Lyrically this is also very repetitive and catchy. Overall good song. Hopefully it takes Need to Knows place.
Alright now we have what I’d consider the big debut of the week, cuz as You can see it’s highlighted in purple. This ones called After You by American DJs Gryffin and Jason Ross and it features vocals from a singer named Calle LehMann. Now I had absolutely no intention on finding this before it came out, but I found it on Apple Music’s DamceXL playlist when I was looking for some new songs to add to my new personal chart, and right when I heard I was like Oh Yeah this is so good. Now it probably won’t be in this purple highlight for long though depending on if it debuts, when it debuts, and how much Sacrifice grows on Me, and if Wandered to L.A can stay my favorite song, cuz I see a battle between those 3 songs if it does debut, but this is very great to say the least. Calle Lehman sounds amazing here, he’s just got a really good voice that fits in amazingly well. The production from the 2 DJs is really good to, I feel like it’s something Illenium or maybe Martin Garrix would produce. It has a great buildup, and it’s not at all a house song, it’s a regular basic EDM song, which I haven’t heard in a long time to be honest. It’s upbeat, it’s very pop-sounding and overall I could see this getting to other stations, so I wouldn’t mind it making the countdown. Lyrically it’s good and very catchy to. Overall amazing song and props to Hits 1 for picking it up.
Alright so I am absolutely dreading this last one. Now first off let Me say that this next song comes from an Anime series called Arcane League of Legends, and I’m not a huge fan of Anime, but for a song that’s featured in.a big series come on this could really be a lot better, especially since it’s by Imagine Dragons who’s music I really love. This ones called Enemy. Now there is a guest verse here from rapper JID, but hits 1 was very stupid enough to edit it out, it’s not like it made a huge difference though in the song anyways. Dan Reynolds sounds really really bad here, I’m not sure if it’s his screaming or what it is, but he just doesn’t sound good here at all. JID doesn’t have the best voice either, although he does have some Great flow in his verse and lyrics. The production here is very strange sounding to. Overall not impressed.
The only Hitbound exit this week was Hands on You by Austin George. While this was never gonna be big, they could’ve at least kept it along for a bit longer. Ok though I’ll probably forget what this sounds like in a week. Oh and we also lost Crisis which I’m alright with cuz we didn’t need it.

Sean Paul/Sia-Dynamite
JP Saxe-Soft landing
Twenty one pilots-The outside
Oliver Tree-Life goes on
CKay-Love nwantiti(ah ah ah)
Tai Verdes-Let’s go to Hell
Alright so It’s pretty clear that Faking Love is gone and not coming back cuz it’s been off AirPlay for a week or 2 now, I just forgot to take it off the abyss list.
Let’s also clear up some confusion so soft landing and life goes on are still in the abyss, cuz I heard both of them this week. The reason that no one can see AirPlay for them though is 2 reasons 1 XMplaylist isn’t tracking the spins for either of them, or is doing it very minimally and 2 They’re probably not even in the top 50 on AirPlay so AllAccess may not show them. I assure y’all though I heard both of them this week, so they’re both still there.
Overall The abyss is getting quite ridiculous to follow, I wish it would just go away.
Hitbound songs that make sense being here
The Weeknd-Sacrifice
Fireboy DML/Ed Sheeran-Peru
Doja Cat-Woman
SZA-I hate You
88Rising/BiBi-The weekend

Wow! Nice to see what I’d consider a big chunk of the list to be now serviced to other pop stations.
Songs that need to debut to make sense
Charli XCX-Good ones
TWICE-The feels
Blxst/Ty Dolla $ign/Tyga-Chosen
Alssso/Katy Perry-When I’m Gone
I think I’ve been Mistyping the name of the first song it’s called Good ones not Good days, and I still haven’t listened to it yet.
Hits 1 also needs the new Alesso & Katy Perry song.
Blurbs(AKA Me bitching and ranting about most of the non-sensical stuff that happened on this countdown. Enjoy!)
Sad girlz luv money is still here why? It’s been holding on for 4 weeks at the bottom spot, and it’s becoming increasingly annoying.
Well at least out of the good things that happened, Stay managed to stick around
Who’s in Your head keeps dropping Ok I guess.
Ok so here’s the completely random and stupid part of the review where I will lose all My shit. So uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (Sigjs) HITS 1 WHY ARE U GURL AND DO IT TO IT HIGHER UP THAN WANDERED TO L.A????????????????????? Like really y’all have to put the shitty bouncy as fuck dance song and the unreleased country song (that I will admit for once sounds like complete ass) over the pop/rap song that’s getting tons of radio adds right now. Not cool totally not cool, I’m pretty sure the majority of the people here in the community would also agree with Me on this. Come on Hits 1 get rid of the bullshit and start making the real shit move up on the countdown for once.
Ok I think I need a breather after all that venting. 1 breathe,2 breathes, 3 breathes.
Ok we’re back now. Uh where were we oh yeah blurbs and rants. Meet Me at our spot has become increasingly annoying. They need to just give up on it.
Smokin out the window is moving down on the countdown again why? That makes no sense.
Wow Happier than ever is now in the top 20 for the first time. Watch it be gone next week since people said it wasn’t on the survey.
Hits 1 can y’all please put Bite Me back in the top 10 cuz I think it’s growing on Me again,
Woah woah woah woah woah woah woah. abcdef Hits 1. Why is GAYLE down 2 spots and not in the top 6 at least cuz that’s where she is on AirPlay.
Nice job putting Moth to a flame back in the top 10 cuz it’s now one of my favorite songs.
Sighs, the only other thing to really talk about is Shivers and it’s exceedingly long run at #1. This song has been up there for almost 3 months now and that’s insane. It officially ties record for 2nd most weeks at #1 with 3 other songs, Taylor Swift’s shake it off, Adele’s Hello, and Walk the Moons Shut up and dance(that actually spent that many weeks at #1 holy shit) and if it holds on next week it ties with The Jonas Brothers Sucker for the most weeks spent at #1 on the countdown. Now normally I would hope that happens, but with this song yeah no. I didn’t mind Sucker breaking a record, but this song has become so exceedingly annoying to listen to that I’ve had to downgrade it to just decent, and that isn’t good when looking back it started out as one of my favorite countdown songs, only probably being a 2nd to Stay, which is a way less annoying song. That’s really embarrassing how much overplay can kill a song for You, and that’s what happened with this song. I have to keep hope that Lil Nas X or Justin Beiber will take over at some point, and If not them My next best guess would be if a miracle happened and either Message In a bottle, Moth to a flame or abcdefu jumped big and made it to #1, but I know that won’t happen. At this point it’s kinda clear Easy on Me nor Cold heart would make it which is sad. Alright I think I’ve said enough.
I’ll give 2 recommendations this week.
#1 recommendation from Dawn FM: The Weeknd/Lil Wayne-I heard You’re married
#1 recommendation thats not from The Weeknd: Joel Corry/Mabel-I wish(this needs to replace Do it to it)
Thank y’all for reading and see y’all in the next one.
nice post! have you heard the new Fingers Crossed yet? you should it's so good.
ReplyDeleteI haven’t listened to it yet, but I definitely plan on it. I hear it’s really good.
