Year-end post #3: A year in review, Hits 1s top 30 of 2021. Billie Eilish,(Year of 2021)

 A Year in review, Hits 1s top 30 of 2021: Billie Eilish(year of 2021)

Hello everyone. I hope y’all are having an amazing week so far. I’m looking forward to the new year, and I’m sure y’all are also, so to help kick off new year I’ll be reviewing Hits 1s top 30 songs of the year. This list itself is actually pretty great overall, but most of these I have already talked about in My top 40 post, so they might seem a bit repetitive. Also just note that this is Hits 1, so it’s gonna make absolutely no sense whatsoever, because they always skew things and manage to fuck them up somehow, and this post will definitely show that. Before we get into it here’s the format I’ll use for this post.

Positions/Artist/Song/Peak/Weeks on the countdown

Alright let’s get into this very interesting list of songs.

#30  BTS-Butter(Peak #8)(Weeks on 12)

Ok so we’re kicking it off with Butter from BTS, and  in all honesty if there’s songs that I saw on Scott’s year to date AirPlay chart that should or shouldn’t be on this countdown, this is one of the songs that shouldn’t be, because it just didn’t get enough AirPlay. Also it’s worth to mention that this was way too overrated, and that’s personally another reason why I don’t think this should be here. Overall though it’s a good song. The guys from BTS all sound great here, the writing is very good and it’s super catchy, and the production is nice and groovey and it’s got a nice Summer vibe to it. I wouldn’t call it the song of the summer, nor would I have put it on this Year-end list, but overall solid tune, I just couldn’t stand how overrated it was though.

#29 The kid Laroi-Without You(Peak #7)(weeks on 21 weeks)

alright so next we have one My favorite songs of the year. This one ended up in my top 10 of the year, and for very good reasons to. Now Hits 1 switched to the Miley Cyrus remix about halfway through its countdown run, but then they switched back to the original, and that I will be forever grateful for, because I am starting to get sick of Miley Cyrus, as her voice just does not sound that good nowadays. The song itself is great though, The kid Laroi really brings his emotional side out here, by singing in a very high tone and even by having his voice crack a bit. He did a great job here. The production is a simple guitar strum throughout the whole song, but it really does match the vibe really well. Overall very great song, and definitely one that I’ll never forget.

#28 Ariana Grande-Positions)(Peak #2)(Weeks on 17)

Alright a song I have yet to talk about on this blog, yay. This one probably should’ve ended up higher cuz it made it all the way to #2, but at the same time I don’t see it on the AirPlay update I got this morning, so it’s like does this really have a purpose being here. Yeah it does actually, and I can see why. This one was great, and honestly it kinda deserved to hit #1 I thought. Now this isn’t as good as Arianas older songs, but it’s still probably the best song off her most recent album of the same title. Ariana sounds amazing here, and I really dig the production and how the violins were incorporated in, as it really makes the production sound unique. Lyrically it’s not the best thing she’s written. But it’s still very good. Overall very great, but we’ll have another Ariana song coming up soon that’s even better.

#27 Silk Sonic-Leave the door open(Peak #7)(Weeks on 19)

Alright so when we’re talking about songs that logically don’t make sense being on this list because of the AirPlay update, this is another one that shouldn’t be here. This one I love though(compared to songs like butter) Out of the 3 singles these guys have released to radio, this one is my personal favorite, Bruno Mars sounds absolutely amazing here, and I’m not a huge fan of Anderson Paac but he does a pretty good job with the verses here. Production wise it’s amazing also, it’s got that 70s R&B vibe and it really does fit in well with the whole song and Bruno and Anderson as a whole. Overall great song, just shouldn’t have logically been on this list.

#26 Dua Lipa- Love again(Peak #3)( weeks on 15)

I love Dua Lipa, and this is the first of 3 songs from her on this list. Personally this ones my least favorite of the 3, but that doesn’t mean it’s not amazing, cuz it is. Now the buildup in the beginning is a bit slow, but honestly it really helps the song out a lot, because once the buildup is done, it just sounds awesome as a whole. Dua Lipa sounds great, and I love the nice upbeat production. Lyrically this is just really great writing also. I love how it talks about never wanting to love again after your heart is broken by someone. Overall the message is just great though cuz it makes You realize that You have to find the right person in order to fall in love, and that’s something that I think that Me and My friends struggle with personally, cuz we never seem to find the right people to date. I won’t go into the details about some of the people we’ve dated, but out of all of them I think I’ll say that I’m the luckiest person, when it comes to finding love. Anyways this song just has that great message in it that no one has to be afraid of love, and that Your gonna mess up at some point when finding it, and that’s another reason why I love this. Excellent writing and overall fantastic song by Dua Lipa.

#25 The Weeknd-Save Your tears(peak #2)( Weeks on 28)

Now this one almost ended up on My year-end list, but it didn’t because of the remix. Now for some odd reason they played the original for this list, even though I think the remix is better, but really they should’ve just played that version because that’s the one I hear all the time on Hits 1, whatever though, I love the production here, the 80s beat just sounds great. Abel sounds good throughout the song here, and he did a really great job writing this, it’s catchy and it’s a fun little heartbreak anthem that makes heartbreak kinda happy in a way, even though it’s kinda a sad song. Overall the remix is better, and in fact I still prefer Blinding lights over this, but overall I love this one.

#24 Ariana Grande-POV(Peak #4)( Weeks on 18)

Alright so speaking of the person on that Save Your years remix, it’s Ariana Grande, and she’s here at #24 with POV. Now this one is better than Positions, and for good reason to. Arianna sounds amazing here, and personally I don’t think she could sound any better on a ballad then how she sounds here. The production is nice and slow, but it also has a nice little buildup so it makes it feel less Ballad-like. The writing here is great to, it’s catchy, but also keeps that nice romantic vibe that the song has. Overall this one was my favorite from Ariana this year. Pretty great song.

#23 Lil Nas X/Jack Harlow-Industry baby(Peak #2)( Weeks on 18)

Wow! Should I be surprised that this one is here? Probably not. Y’all already know that this is one of My current favorites when it comes to Rap music(besides Wandered to L.A of course) Lil Nas X sounds very great here, and he has great pace and flow here. Jack Harlow has a fantastic rate of flow here, and the lyrics in his verse fit in perfectly and ate super catchy. Same thing goes for Nases part though the lyrics are all great, and catchy and they fit in easily. The production here is nice and well produced, and everyone sounds great with it. Overall this one is great and it’s still one of my current favorites.

#22 Dua Lipa-We’re good(Peak #1 for 2 weeks)(Weeks on 15)

Alright another one that made My top 40 of the year. This one is a bit better than Love again. Dua Lipa sounds amazing here, and I love the production as it’s more of a trap and island vibe, which I think is unique cuz Dua Lipa has never had production like this on one of her songs, so it’s just so unique. The lyrics are very catchy in this one also. Honestly it could’ve been a bit higher though since it had 2 weeks at #1, but Oh well I guess, this is Hits 1 we’re talking about who always seems to underrate Dua Lipa.

#21 Jax-90s kids(Peak #12)( weeks on 17)

Wow another song I liked. This one was a Hits 1 to watch, and it stuck around for a very long time which is awesome. Jax sounds pretty good here, and I like the production, it’s upbeat and cool. Lyrically I love how this just talks all about 90s stuff, and it just makes Me imagine what it would’ve been like to live during that time. Overall great song and I’m glad they out this one on the list,

#20 The Kid Laroi/Justin Beiber-Stay( Peak #1 for 6 weeks)( weeks on 24(still charting)

(Insert facepalms here) Alright there might be come ranting here. Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh What the Fuck Hits 1. Like this confuses the hell outta Me. How did this have 6 weeks at #1 and it didn’t end up higher, and on top of that it’s still on the chart right now. That’s bullshit this should be top 5. Well for what now has the 3rd highest run at #1 um I guess Hits 1 can’t respect any good artist though nowadays even if it’s Beiber. This one was in the top 5 of my top 40 of the year and for good reasons to. Laroi and Beiber sound amazing here, and they actually do have some decent chemistry here to. The production is amazing, and once again I love how it’s an 80s style beat. The writing is the best part about this one though. It talks about change and how it’s a hard thing, and that’s something that I know and that I can really respect the writing on. Overall amazing song. It should’ve really been top 5 though. Maybe try a bit harder if Wandered to L.A gets into the top 5 Hits 1.

#19 Masked Wolf-Astronaut in the ocean(peak #9)(Weeks on 18)

Alright so I actually did expect to see this one here(which is surprising) and I kinda knew it was gonna make it. I don’t even think I’m gonna explain the story of how this one came about again even because I think I already talked about that enough in my top 40. This one is probably the best rap song I’ve heard all year round though. Masked Wolf has an insane and unstoppable flow here, and he blends in with the beat really well, which is really nice. Lyrically this is about his battle with anxiety and mental health, and I really do like the way he wrote it, it’s catchy and vibey, but also touches on those issues all in once. Overall great song, and I'm actually not supervised by it being here.

#18 Ed Sheeran-Bad habits( Peak #1 for 5 weeks)( Weeks on 19)

Ok so I’m once again surprised this one is so low, cuz it had 5 weeks at #1 on the countdown, and cuz Hits 1 loves Ed Sheeran. So again wheres the logic here? This one did get overplayed a lot on Hits 1, but not as much as Shivers, so it’s not as annoying as that song is. Ed sounds fantastic here, the lyrics are very catchy and the production is very nice here. It sounds more like a modern electronic song, which is not something You typically get from Ed Sheeran, so nice job done here to Ed, bad job though on Hits 1s part for not putting it higher on the list.

#17 Twenty one pilots-Saturday( Peak #2)( Weeks on 19)

Ok now this is where I’m gonna explain why this makes absolute zero sense. This song only hit #2 on the countdown, and what was it blocked by? Stay. Yeah that’s right, so this makes absolute zero sense. The song is quite good actually, Tyler Joseph sounds very good throughout it, and I really like the production here, it’s nice and unique and kinda sounds more pop-friendly than some of their older songs, the lyrics are catchy, and even though I don’t completely understand all of them it’s okay. The only thing I’d change about this was that if I were Hits 1 I would’ve edited out the middle of the song where Tyler and his wife(I’m assuming) are just talking cuz no one wants to hear talking on radio I’m pretty sure. Other than that great song and nice job done by Hits 1 for keeping it around for as long as they did.

#16 Olivia Rodrigo-Deja Vu(Peak #1 for 1 week)(weeks on 20)

Ok so literally this is the only bad song on this list(not joking) of course if y’all saw my top 10 worst songs of the year y’all would probably know why I don’t like this, but I’ll sum it up here. First Olivia doesn’t even sound that good here, she’s got kinda a boring voice in this song if I’m being honest, and then there’s the overproduced instrumental, and I’ve already said enough of why I don’t like overproduction in music, it’s basic, bland and generic sounding stuff that pop music doesn’t need. The writing here I can actually respect a bit, but she just doesn’t make it sound good with her angry and bitter vocals. The ending is especially horrible to with her shouting. Overall I’m not thrilled that this hit #1 on the countdown but at least it was only for a week.

#15 AJR-Way less sad(Peak #3)( Weeks on 22)

Alright back to the good music. Yet again we have another awesome song. AJR has been one of My favorite bands over the past few years, and this is probably their best song as I’ll call it. The orchestral production is very cool and unique here, and those Horns in the background just enhance the song ever more than it already would have without them. Adam Met sounds really good here, and I like the lyrics, it’s much easier to tell what’s being said here than it is in most of Twenty one pilots songs, Which is something I like about AJR in general, they have great writing. Overall great song, probably could’ve been a bit higher though.

#14 Olivia Rodrigo-Good 4 U( Peak #1 for 9 weeks)(Weeks on 22)

Fuck up alert, Fuck up alert, Major fuck up alert. Ok so here’s where I’m gonna absolutely lose all My Shit. Bro what like uh, ok, I think I’m literally speechless, this has to be a huge mistake. What. How is this song this low. This song has the 2nd most weeks at #1 on the countdown and stuck around for a very long time, so this confuses Me. How is this not #1 Hits 1, come on. Um okay I guess, This one is another great one(compared to Deja Vu) Olivia does have that very bitter and angry voice here, but it actually sounds great with the production here, as it’s more of an alternative style. The production actually sounds pretty good to. She did an amazing job writing this to, it’s overly catchy, and it just tears apart her Ex boyfriend. Overall for an angry and bitter sounding song, not bad, but seriously it should’ve been #1 here.

#13 Taylor Swift-Willow(Peak #1 for 4 weeks)(Weeks on 20)

Ok so we finally get a song I have never talked about on this blog before, it’s Willow by Taylor Swift. This one had 4 weeks at #1, and I’m very happy that it got those 4 weeks. As far as the folklorish sounding stuff goes from Taylor this is her 2nd best song for that type of sound(because run is the best) and this is really great to be honest. I wasn’t much of a fan of Cardigan, but mostly that had to do with the lyrics. This is way better though. Taylor sounds really good here, and I love the slow production here, it’s nice and calming. The lyrics are very well written here to, and it’s something I can really appreciate coming from a big artist like Taylor Swift. Overall Nice song, and nice job Hits 1 for making it big.

#12 Marshmello/Jonas Brothers-Leave before You love Me(peak #2)(Weeks on 21)

Alright so another one that was on My top 40 and another one here that didn’t even hit #1. How does this make sense again? Anyways this is Your basic upbeat Jonas Brothers song, not really much to say here. Marshmello did a nice job on the production and the guys all sound amazing and jags great chemistry. The lyrics are also very catchy. What’s there more to say about 2 generic pop artists teaming up for a song. Nothing really.

#11 Harry Styles-Golden(peak #1 for 4 weeks(2 in 2020 and 2 in 2021)(Weeks on 22)

Now this is the part where other bloggers are probably gonna really lose their shit, for Me even maybe I’ll lose it a bit. Alright come on Hits 1, I mean at least this isn’t top 10, but seriously putting this over Good 4 U, not cool, not cool at all. Now while I completely just ranted about that, I’ll actually be nice for once about Harry, because I don’t mind this song actually. He sounds pretty good here, and the lyrics are catchy, the writing style he uses was good to. The production is nice here to, it actually remind Me of California(which is where I was born) so in a way I feel relatable to this song. Good song let’s move on to the top 10 though.

#10 Olivia Rodrigo-Drivers license(Peak #1 for 5 weeks)(Weeks on 14)

Ok so does putting this song over Good 4 U make any sense? Not to Me because it only had 5 weeks at #1 and didn’t stick around for as long as Good 4 U did. I guess You do You though hits 1. This one is really good. Olivia Rodrigo sounds amazing here, and she doesn’t sound angry for once. The writing and lyrics are very good, and they’re easily relatable I feel, and the production is slow, but it’s one of those songs that builds up as it goes. Pretty good for a past #1, but still Good 4 U deserved to be higher since it lasted longer.

#9 Lil Nas X/-Montero(Call Me by your name)(Peak #2)(Weeks on 18)

Yay another song that I’ve never talked about on this blog, and another one that somehow got cockblocked by another #1 song that’s lower on this list, and yes that song is Good 4 U. I liked this one, it wasn’t enough to get into my top 40 of the year but it was still great. Lil Nas X sounds great here, and the production is cool. I like how it’s more pop-like. The lyrics are a bit weird and questionable, but they’re catchy enough for Me not to hate this. Overall great song. Nice choice for the top 10 Hits 1.

#8 Machine Gun Kelly/Halsey-Forget Me to(Peak #3(Weeks on 17)

Another one that made My top 40 of the year, alright. I still hear this one quite a lot on Hits 1, and it’s really good. Machine gun Kelly and Halsey both sound great vocally, and they really fit in with the rock vibe of the song. Overall I think this song also shows Me how they’ve come to sound great in the alternative genre of music, so that’s pretty amazing. The writing here is very nice and pop-punksih also, and it sounds awesome. Overall great song once again.

#7 Doja Cat/SZA-Kiiss Me more(Peak #2)(Weeks on 17)

Yay another one that didn’t make My top 40, and it was only because of overplay.this one I loved, and still do, but it seriously got too overplayed at one point. I’ve regrown into it though. SZA sounds pretty good here in her verses and she does an amazing job on the chorus. Doja Cat smashes her verse also, and she sounds great, I’d say this is her best vocal performance yet. I can’t wait to see what she brings us in 2022.

#6 Glass Animals-Heat waves Peak #6)(Weeks on 25)

Wow! I thought this would be higher given how much AirPlay it’s gotten since leaving the countdown, in fact I’m really surprised it still hasn’t been Re-entered yet. This is pretty good. Dave Bayley sounds good, and I like the groovey and upbeat production, The lyrics are really good to. Overall really solid choice for the top 10.

#5 Dua Lipa-Levitating(Peak #1 for 3 weeks)(Weeks on 25)

Ah yes of course it’s Dua Lipa, without DaBaby(even though clearly he should be on here) with AT40s #1 song of the year, Wow and to think how long it stuck around on there, and not on this countdown. I love this, it’s one of Dua Lipas best songs. She sounds great throughout this, and the production is really groovey and awesome. The writing is amazing to. I won’t even comment on DaBaby, because I already did that in my top 40, and just cuz he’s not there anymore, but nice job at, at least putting this into the top 5 Hits 1.

#4 Machine gun Kelly/Blackbear-My ex’s best friend(Peak #2)(Weeks on 27)

Alright more Machine Gun Kelly, and this time it’s My Ex’s best friend with Blackbear. This was very close to making my top 40, but once again overplay and just Me forgetting about it for a while kept it out. Machine Gun Kelly sounds amazing here, and he really fits in with the production. Blackbear sounds great and has great flow in his verse also. I really like the production to, the beat tradition in the verses is great sounding and on pint, and overall it just blends together perfectly. Nice song to put in the top 5.

#3 Tate McRae-You broke Me first(Peak #4)(Weeks on 30)

Woah another one I have yet to talk about here, alright. Now of course most of y’all probably know by now I’d prefer if You made it over this(spoiler alert it didn’t make it WTF Hits 1) but I still like this. I hated this song when it first came out, but then something about Tate McRae clicked with Me(and that was before You even came out) She has a really great voice, and she creates some really catchy songs and that’s why I love this. She sounds pretty good, and the lyrics here are intriguing and catchy. The production is a bit bland, but I like this enough where I can deal with it. Overall I would’ve rather had my #1 song from her on here, but still this is a pretty solid choice. Great song.

#2 All time Low/Blackbear/Demi Lovato-Monsters(remix)(Peak #1 for 4 weeks(1 in 2020 and 3 in 2021)(Weeks on 29)

Ok so I knew this was gonna be really high, cuz I Hear it a lot on Hits 1, and also because I know they love All time low for some reason. This one was another awesome one that ended up on My top 40 of the year, and for good reason. All time low sounds great, Demi Lovato blends in perfectly and Blackbear sounds awesome. The production in this is also very good, it’s a nice chill rock vibe, and the lyrics are very catchy. Overall not bad and I’m not surprised it’s this high.

Alright we have made it to Hits 1s #1 song of 2021, and this one didn’t even hit #1 on the countdown, so I’m pretty sure most people will be surprised as I am. Virtual drum roll please.

#1 Billie Eilish-Therefore I am(Peak #3)(Weeks on 23)

Ok so this is it, this is Hits 1s #1 song of 2021. Am I surprised? A bit actually, and why? Because this never hit #1 on the countdown, nor did it seem like it had enough AirPlay after it left to make it into this chart. Apparently it did though, and while some people in the community might mind this, I don’t. I didn’t like Billie Eilish at first, but I’ve learned how to grow into her music more as she’s released new stuff. This one, would actually be a really close contender to being her best song, only to Bad Guy. This is really good. The production is a bit basic sounding, but it’s alright because it’s very upbeat enough for My taste. Billie sounds good here to, I think the upbeatness of this really helps with her whisper singing, so it makes her sound better. The writing and melodies used here are good to, it was a bit hard to understand at first, especially for Me, but once she started releasing all the other songs from Happier than ever, I really started to understand this more, so that really helped Me grow into it a lot. Great song, I’m not sure it’d be My #1 out of all these songs(in fact it sure as hell wouldn’t be) but Ok I guess that’s what Hits 1 gave us this year.

Tiesto/Tate McRae(6): Week of April, 29th 2023

Wow, this community is deserted. Why did I leave all of sudden with no word
