Ed Sheeran(1): Week of October, 23rd 2021

Ed Sheeran(1): Week of October,23rd 2021

Hey guys what’s up. I’ve had a crazy weekend this week as it was my 20th birthday, and I also hit 1000 pageviews, which is awesome. Thank you guys so much for making that happen and for reading my blog. This weeks countdown was very interesting and record breaking. I listened yesterday morning on my way to Tallahassee with my friends, and my one friend said he liked the countdown although he hasn’t heard it before, which is awesome. I also tried to get us all on the shout-outs but I unfortunately couldn’t. No worries though we’ll try again next week. Now here are the exits for this week.

Debuts

First up we have EDM groups Cheat codes and Gray teaming up with Tyson Ritter of The All-American rejects on Hurricane. This one has really grown on me a lot since it debuted a few weeks ago. The vocals from Tyson sound really good here, and the lyrics are very catchy and relatable. The production here is not what I really expected for an EDM song but it doesn’t sound bad. I quite like the trap here, and Tyson actually manages to fit in with it, so overall not bad.

Next we have edamame by bbno$ and Rich Brian. This song is still not that great to me, but I do feel as if it’ll somehow grow on me so we’ll see. Both vocalists here have great flow, but they just don’t sound good, and the lyrics are very questionable and stupid at best. I do kinda like the production here though it sounds good even with the Horns or trumpets in the background. Overall not really that great but it could change.

Our last debut comes from Adele who ties for highest debut ever at #7 tieing with the Jonas brother song Sucker for the highest debut ever we have her new song Easy on me. This song is amazing. Adele sounds really great here and the piano ballad is really great sounding and very melodic. The lyrics really stand out here though as there easily relatable and great. All around great debut. I’m really happy it debuted this high.

Best Debut of the week: Adele-Easy on me

Biggest Jumps of the week: Kane Brown/Blackbear-Memory(+10  I never really asked for this to re-enter the countdown but whatever I guess.

Biggest drop of the week: Ckay-Love nwantiti(ah ah ah) & THE ANXIETY-Meet me at our spot(-7)  I never asked for those songs to debut so I’m alright with this. Also for some reason these two are both still on Hitbound?????????????

Debuts

First off we have Boyz by Jesy Nelson and Nicki Minaj, and apparently Jesy Nelson was a member of Little Mx. What the actual fuck? She doesn’t sound like a little mix member here, she sounds more like a rapper, and it doesn’t sound good here. Nicki Minaj sucks to, her voice has gotten worse since maybe 2013 or 14 and I’ve just never liked her at all since then. Combine this with the very weird production and you’ve got a really horrible song. I’d rather have this not debut. Next?

Next is a song that I’ve really been waiting to review ever since it came out and I finally got around to listening to it so Yay! It’s called Moth to a flame by Swedish house mafia and The Weeknd. Swedish house mafia hasn’t had a big hit since 2012 so it’s great to see that they’re back, if you don’t know them they released a song called Don’t You worry child with John Martin back in 2012 and that song was awesome. Now they’ve recently reunited after separating and they dropped a few new songs since they got back together but this is their latest one. This did take a few listens to grow on me, but it finally did. It’s not as good as any of The Weeknd’s most recent Hits, but it’s not bad actually. Swedish house mafia did a pretty good job with the production here, I like how it’s really dark and has an 80s vibe because The Weeknd really fits in well with both those things, and speaking of him, he doesn’t sound bad here. He sounds a bit weird in the first few lines, but other than that he does really well. The lyrics in this one are really good to, I love the story that they tell. Pretty good song.

Next we have the reunion of Sean Paul and Sia, and 5 years ago they released a song called Cheap thrills, and now they’re back again with Dynamite. This one isn’t as good as Cheap thrills but it’s still pretty solid. Sia sounds good here, and Sean Paul doesn’t do bad either, but I feel like he doesn’t really bring anything new to the table here lyrically in the verses, and it does take some looking at to understand what the hell he’s saying because of his accent. He’s really repetitive here also. The production is good and chill though. Overall not bad, I wouldn’t mind if this debuted.

Next we have more Walker Hayes with his new song called U Gurl, and what the hell is going on here. Walker Hayes sounds like he talks in the verses here, and when he does sing he doesn’t really sound that great. What’s with the production here to, make the song sound Country if your gonna make a country song dude, don’t make it sound like an acoustic pop song. It just doesn’t fit in here. Not the worst but not really the best thing I’ve heard either.

Our final debut comes from record label 88rising and some singer named Bibi with their song called The weekend. This isn’t bad. The production from 88rising is really good and upbeat, and Bibi doesn’t sound bad. Not much else to say here, just a really solid song.

As for the exits this week we lost Chasing stars(again), Last one standing and Love back. Chasing stars and Last one standing I don’t care about as they were really forgettable and not destined to be Hits, and Love back wasn’t supposed to be a hit either but come on seriously this song was really good. Why did you have to drop it Hits 1.

Alright so now I thought I’d explain what the hell is happening with Hitbound right now and why we’re getting so many dropouts and changes each week, so songs somehow are exiting and either dropping out, or going into what is bloggers like to call The Hits 1 abyss. I’m starting to now realize that songs that go into the abyss are now debuting the countdown within a week or 2 of dropping out of Hitbound. Some are not though, and some are even old songs that are trying to re-enter the countdown. Here’s that list of songs below.

Troye Sivan-Angel baby

NEIKED/Mae Muller/Polo G-Better days

Wizkid/Justin Beiber/Tems-Essence

Anitta/Saweetie-Faking love

Billie Eilish-Happier than ever

Black eyed peas/Saweetie/LeLe Pons-Hit it

Kanye West/The weeknd/Lil baby-Hurricane

Pitbull/Anthony Watts/DJ White shadow-I feel good

Shouse-Love tonight

Taylor Swift-Wildest dreams(Taylor’s version)  (is there really any point in this being here)

This list is really big, it’s almost as big as the actual Hitbound list, so I’m not sure why these songs aren’t still on Hitbound. Apparently Better days is already announced as the next one to watch also which is strange since Paralyzed is still getting tons of AirPlay. I haven’t even gotten around to hearing it yet. Every time I listen to Hits 1 it never comes into rotation which kinda sucks. I hear it’s not a bad song though.

I’ve also realized just how many irrelevant songs Hits 1 has been picking up on lately, I can really tell right now because the only song that’s getting spins outside of the Hitbound segment is Moth to a flame. When only one song from that show is getting spins, that’s just not good. It tells me how much irrelevant music Hits 1 is getting, and I’ve figured out that this is probably one of the contributing factors into why there’s been a record number of Hitbound dropouts this year. This is ridiculous, and because of it I’ve decided I will start to make a section on this blog and each of its posts for Hitbound and abyss songs that are relevant, and a section for what songs Hits 1 should get to make Hitbound make more sense. Without further ado, here we go with this interesting list.

Hitbound songs that make sense being here.

Nessa Barrett-I hope ur miserable until ur dead

Jesy Nelson/Nicki Minaj-Boyz

Swedish house mafia/The weeknd-Moth to a flame

Monsta X-One day

Trevor Daniel-Alone

These songs have either been released as singles to radio stations across the U.S, or have impacted Mediabases charts or have been breakout tracks on AT40 so these all make sense being here. Keep in mind this doesn’t include Love Nwantiti or Meet me at our spot because those are on the countdown.

All songs from the abyss make sense being here except for Better days(although it is 1 to watch), and Wildest dreams. Note that Essence shouldn’t be the remix though it should be the original.

Now here’s the list of songs that need to debut Hitbound to make the show make more sense. I haven’t really listened to any of them yet so they won’t be color-coated.

Charli XCX-Good days

TWICE-The feels

Blxst/Ty Dolla $ign/Tyga-Chosen

Chloe-Have Mercy

Farruko-Papas

All these songs have broken through the top 50 on mediabase, have been released to pop stations across the country or have been a breakout or OTV track on AT40, so they would make sense being here. You can also add Reckless by Madison beer and Chasing stars to this list because they’re at least doing something right now on radio stations. I hope You guys enjoyed this little addition and I’ll try and incorporate it in my posts every week.

Blurbs

Why does Hits 1 have to be anti-Drake, Future and Young thug?

For tonight, Justified, My universe and Who’s in your head all made nice jumps which is good because I like all of them.

Why did That’s what I want drop. I love this song and I sure as hell hope it doesn’t leave too quickly.

Ghost also dropped. Come on Hits 1 I thought y’all weren’t anti-Beiber anymore considering how much success stay has gotten.

Bad habits continues to drop. No surprise.

A-O-K dropped out of the top 10. I hope this song doesn’t leave too fast either because I’ve really been enjoying the remix.

Why is Beggin at #12 it was at the top of the AirPlay chart all week.

Industry baby dropped? Are you kidding me. This song has really been growing on me lately and just as I think it should get a chance at #1 Hits 1 has to fuck it over. Nice job stanning the white British guy instead of the all American black guy Hits 1.

Stay has fallen to #4 and just as it does I realize I was wrong about putting our new #1 in purple because I still can’t get this damn song out of my head. How many times did I play it on my birthday, how many times have I put it in my Instagram story, how many edits have I made out of this song, how many Tiktoks or reels have I seen with it? I don’t know but I just can’t get over how good this is.

Take my breath jumped finally.

Just as I think we’re gonna have Elton John make history here, cold heart gets screwed out of #1.

Our new #1 is Shivers, and while I love this song and don’t mind it being here. I think it’s pretty obvious at this point that I’d rather still have Stay up there or have cold heart or industry baby up there. This song is still great though.

#1 recommendation for Hits 1- Justin Beiber/Troyboi-Red eye

Leave y’all favorite and least favorite picks in the comments, and let me know what You think about me including the abyss and other radio songs in the post.

Thanks for reading and see y’all in the next one.
