Debuts

Alright, so kicking off this weeks debuts is a song I went over last week from Tori Kelly called Missin U. I get the appeal to this song, but I’m not exactly seeing what’s so special about it. I mean I like the 2000s pop vibe here, but I don’t at the same time, it’s a bit boring and it doesn’t really fit in with the lyrics in my opinion and I’m just not the biggest fan of her voice in this song. She sounds a bit too high pitched. This also has that problem of it’s super forgettable too, like I literally cannot remember this song 2 seconds after I heat it. Overall not the best thing I’ve heard, but whatever.

Our highest debut this week(at only #29) is from newcomer Lizzy McAlpine and it’s called Ceilings. I haven’t loved ballads over the past year or so, I hated both of Joji’s songs and I also remember Charli D’Amelio’s boring ass ballad making its way onto Hitbound like 5 months ago, and who can’t forget The Joker and the Queen from a year ago(which reminds me that I still need to work on my worst songs of 2022 list, cuz it’s definitely ok there). Those songs are all stupid and forgettable ballads, but this is the first ballad I’ve heard probably within a year and a half maybe that struck me like, “ woah, this is amazing.” The production is super slow, but I love how it evolves as the song progresses a bit, and I really like the guitar chord this is in, it sounds kinda fun and catchy to me. I like Lizzy McAlpines voice too, it’s unique and she fits in with the production perfectly. Let’s get to the reason I really love this though, and that would be the writing. This didn’t seem like much to me at first, but then when I re-listened to it a few times it all of a sudden hit me and I was like.” This is how 2023 has been for me thus far.” I had a crush(who o recently agreed to just be friends with) and some of the lyrics here when I first heard this made me think of her in a really positive way because my world was dark a few months ago, and so was hers, and so lines like.” Lovely to be rained on with you.” Hit me in the feels a bit, and then it gets better as the song goes on because when you get the climax where Lizzy sings about her love not existing, and we find out it was a dream, it hit me because I knew I was gonna get rejected by this girl, and so at that moment I learned maybe it is better if I let go of her, and now it’s all good and I’m still friends with her. We actually hung out yesterday and she met a bunch of my friends, but point in being that this song kinda made me see the positive in heartbreak, so that’s why I find it so amazing. I hope it has a shot here, and it is certainly one I’ll never forget. Amazing song.

Best Countdown debut: Lizzy McAlpine-Ceilings

Biggest jump of the week: Latto/Lu Kala-Lotery(+10) I’m very impressed by this entering the top 5, and hope it doesn’t get blocked for #1, although we all know that it probably will.

Biggest drop of the week: Metro Boomin/The Weeknd/21 Savage-Creepin(-5) RIP, Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy? I know this song is getting old, but it’s so good.

Debut

Wow, wow, wow, what a Hitbound we had this week. This was so good that I had no choice but to put 2 songs in purple, and the best part now is that I get to review them first. Let’s get into it then, shall we? First off we have the return of Ed Sheeran with the debut and lead single off his upcoming album Subtract called Eyes Closed. Now I’m going to admit that while I was really looking forward to this, there is a huge reason as to why, and that is because I knew damn well going into it that the writing was going to connect with me automatically. Ed wrote this song at a very difficult point in his life after his best friend died. This friend of his helped him jumpstart his musical career actually(I found this out in the trailer for his new documentary by the way). Anyways, that’s what it’s about and I knew it would hit me hard because I’ve dealt with a lot of loss these last few months with losing both my grandmother and my cat, and so I was kinda nervous that this song would make me really emotional, which is what I didn’t want because I know that at some point it’ll probably hit #1 on the countdown since it’s Ed Sheeran. What I didn’t know though was how relatable it was going to be. Some of the lyrics here such as,” I pictured this year a little bit different, when it February.” And those exact lines ladies and gentlemen were what I felt during the whole month of February. It shows that your never ready for when someone’s gonna die, and then it just happens and you feel so sad and empty, but life moves on and it’s gonna be alright even though the person you loved is gone. I needed that reminder for about a month after my losses, but eventually I came to the realization that it just goes on, it might not be the same, but it does move on and it does get better, and that’s also something that this song showed me. The writing here was so good and relatable, but also catchy that I can’t really help but to not love it. Ed sounds really good here, and he did put a lot of emotion into it, and that also made it sound a lot better. The production was very basic for a pop song, but what I liked about it was that it was upbeat to an extent, and a bit electronic sounding even. It sounds great and it works perfectly with Ed’s voice, and I can definitely see this as a radio friendly song or just a chill vibe for pretty much anything, and the best part though is that it’s in this certain chord that makes it sound sad, but so very joyous at the same time, that I didn’t even cry when I heard it. This is amazing, IT BETTER NOT GET BLOCKED FOR #1 HERE.

Alright, so as if the return of Ed Sheeran wasn’t enough, we also got the return of these next guys called NOTD. NOTD is a Swedish EDM duo(so kinda think of The Chainsmokers, but they’re Swedish). Anyways I had forgotten about these guys for so long until about a week ago I just so happened to randomly remember that they had a song on the countdown called So Close, and the reason I remember it was because I was looking at the writing credits of Regard’s new song No Sleep, and I saw the name Georgia Ku on it, Ku was the vocalist on So Close, and I remember really liking her voice, so I just randomly looked up the song and started listening to it again, and I also listened to their other song that was popular called I Wanna Know with Bea Miller, and that one’s not as good, but I still really like it(although I do remember it got overplayed as hell on Hits 1 back in 2018). Anyways, so I guess for NOTD this was the perfect time for a new release from them since I was listening to their older song. This new ones called AM:PM, and it’s amazing in todays standards. It’s not as good as So Close is, but it’s still a banger, NOTD did a really great and upbeat job on the production here. The drop is a bit weird sounding, but I actually don’t mind it. Maia Wright has a great voice and she really shows off her vocal power here. The second I turned on this song though I was hooked because of the writing. It’s fun and really catchy and it’s about falling in love, and after experiencing a crush that writing translated to me as, “wow, this is such a relatable bop.” Even though It didn’t work out the way I expected it to in real life. The writing really brightened my thoughts and made me realize, “Eh as I long as I have this song here, I don’t need a girlfriend.” It’s fun and very very very catchy all in one song. Amazingness at its peak ladies and gentlemen.

Next we have some Canadian group known as Crash Adams with their song called Give Me a Kiss. This song is cool. It reminds me a lot of Twenty One Pilots music. The production sounds great, and the guys here sound alright. It’s also catchy and very bright sounding. Great song. I hope it gets a shot here.

Fall Out Boy’s new album So Much (For) Stardust is finally here, and I have been anxiously waiting for it for the past 2 months now, so that’s awesome that it’s here. I worked out to some of the songs on it yesterday and it’s really amazing to see what they’ve done with their music since their last album in 2018. Here on Hitbound we have a new song from the album called What a Time to be Alive, and this isn’t a single, which sucks, but I kinda wish it was because it’s great. Now I still think that Love from the Other Side was the best song off the album, but I definitely like this one too. The rock production is very nice here, and Patrick Stump sounds great. The writing is also very positive and catchy and just fun all around talking about living life and having fun. Honestly I liked So Good Right Now a bit better than this one, but this is a great song just like every other one I’ve heard so far off the album. I hope it can get a shot here.

I think for the purpose of the nature of the next song on this list I’m gonna go ahead and save it for last, and review Favorite Song by Toosii first. I was first brought up to this song after Hrish sent it to the Discord server and asked if I could listen to it, and I finally did, and well Hrish, I’m sorry man, but I don’t see what’s so special about this one. I really like Toosii’s voice here, and his flow is pretty good, but the production is so basic that it’s kinda boring for a trap song, and I can’t remember what it sounds like 5 seconds after I hear it, so yeah not really the best thing, but okay I guess.

And now ladies and gentlemen be prepared for a review of the the worst fucking song I have ever heard in my entire life(This is not a drill).

WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT??????????????????? Let me repeat that again,  WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT? Alright y’all you know what imma say it. JADENUHHHHHHHHHHH, WHAT HAPPENDUHHHHHHHHHH, WHY DID YOU HAVE TO WORK WITH A SCREAMING WHOREUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH?????? UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, can we even call this song real music? I mean seriously, this is such a shitty fucking song that I cannot believe even exists. Let me now remind y’all who this is if y’all don’t remember. This is Amelia Moore who we’re talking about here, y’all know that stupid screaming bitch who was Hits 1 to watch back last June. Well guess what folks, she’s back with another song and she just had to collab with an artist I like on it. She worked with punk rocker Jxdn on this(who’s also a previous 1 to watch artist) I’m not entirely sure if I reviewed Jxdn’s last song here because it may have been while I was on a hiatus honestly I can’t remember, but his music is really good and I really like it, and Travis Barker produces all of it, so it’s great vibes overall, but now he’s worked with Amelia Moore out of all people on this next song, and my oh my, this is a big fat HOT MESS of a song. Amelia sounds like complete shit here. The verses are just her very high pitched and annoying voice over a not so great buildup, and the chorus is literally her screaming her ass off in a very loud and edgy way. I couldn’t even put this on full volume because the screaming was that bad in this. I’d like to know honestly If she used effects on her voice here to though because the screaming sounds so bad here that it honestly does. It literally so edgy and loud that my ears bled after I listened to it. Jxdn most certainly did not need to be added to this either cuz he sounds like shit in his verse also. He’s also screaming, but he’s doing it over a basic and shitty sounding trap beat. The lyrics in this are also so stupid and worthless, why would anyone wanna sing about a person who won’t get the fuck out of their dreams, I mean I actually had dreams about my friend while I had the little crush a month ago honestly, but it’s not something that I would remotely give 2 fucks about to write a whole annoying ass edgy song about. Fuck you Hits 1 for picking this up and fuck you Amelia for making Jxdn work with you. I think I’ll stay away from this screaming bitch.

As for the Hitbound exits, we lost Sugar Sweet, Freezing, Found, Feather and Bells in Santa Fe. Found was replaced by Shut Me Up, which is better, Sugar Sweet was the worst Benson song I’ve ever heard, Freezing and Feather were both robbed and Bells in Santa Fe was an old and boring song from 2021, so I don’t care that it’s gone.

Best Hitbound debut: Tie between Ed Sheeran-Eyes Closed and NOTD/Maia Wright-AM:PM

The abyss

Harry Styles-Daylight

Rema/Selena Gomez-Calm Down

Charlie on a Friday-That’s What I Get

Morgan Wallen-Last Night

Zara Larson-Can’t Tame Her

Renee Rapp-Too Well

Macklemore/Collett-No Bad Days

Havana Winter-Death Wish

Taylor Swift-All of The Girls that you loved before

Miguel-Sure Thing

Miley Cyrus/Brandi Carlisle-Thousand Miles

So for some stupid reason Sure Thing from Miguel is going viral on TikTok and seeing a resurgence. Honestly I kinda remember this song, but I don’t care enough to listen to it. It’s so boring of an R&B song to Cate about. I guess the production is alright though.

Some random song from Miley’s album is also here, and I haven’t even listened to it yet. It probably won’t debut though anyways.

I almost forgot that Taylor Swift is also here. The song is so overrated and stupid that I barely even give a shit about it.

Blurbs

This is What Heartbreak Feels like rose 4 spots to #25, and I’m alright with that. It’s a weird, but at the same time fun little tune to bop to, and feel relatable to(if you’re me at least).

River jumped 5 spots off the debut, and I can’t say that I didn’t see it coming. I hope this doesn’t hit #1 here and have a run like Flowers is, but with my luck that will probably happen at some point.

Heart Wants What it Wants finally got a 4 spot jump, but it comes as they remove it from the survey. I don’t see this lasting too much longer honestly, and I’d be perfectly fine with it leaving. It’s not too special. Although it is good for its quality.

Wings got a 6 spot jump, and I’m really happy it did because I’m starting to like it even more now, despite it being a short, less than 2 minute long fragment of a song. It has a really great vibe that keeps it afloat though. It reminds me of Best Friend by Queen, which is a timeless classic. I hope it can continue to get more success here.

Love From the Other Side started moving up again right as Fall Out Boy’s new album was released. This is great, and I definitely recommend checking out the album. I hope that Love From the Other Side can last a bit longer here.

Special fell out of the top 5. Yeah I’m starting to get sick of this one already.

For the love of god, can Lavender Haze just please get out of the top 5 and leave. It’s so annoying.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS! VICTORY IS OURS FOLKS! 10:35 by Tate McRae and Tiesto finally hit #1 this week, and with that it makes not only both artists first #1 songs on the countdown, but also it marks the first EDM song to hit #1 for the past 2 and a half years nearly. IT TOOK LONG ENOUGH, BUT I KNEW WE COULD DO IT. I am so happy by this, and it also comes the same week as it hits #1 on my personal chart(which you can find a link to in the sidebar of this blog by the way). It’s also both artists first #1 on my chart also, but if that’s not enough to add on to it, Tiesto has the top 2 songs on my chart because Lay Low is #2 on mine right now, while this amazing song is #1. I love both artists music so much, but especially Tiesto’s. The singles of this new album of his(which is out April 21st) have all been amazing, and I can’t get enough of them. I can see now why people regard him as the worlds best DJ, although he’s held back in my opinion because of The Chainsmokers existing, I can at the current moment agree a bit with this statement though, and I can’t wait to hear the full album in April, and I will definitely be keeping it on repeat, as it’s just the perfect song for spring break season. Congrats to Tiesto and Tate on earning #1s for this week, and I hope it stays here for at least a few weeks.

We only lost Made You Look and Enough this week. Made You Look was really annoying, so good riddance to it, as for Enough, I’m shocked at how long it lasted and how long it stayed for. It started to fade on me slightly these last few weeks, but I still love it. It was a really fun song while it lasted and it was very relatable to all the things I’ve been through in my life overall for the past 6 months, so I’m very glad it became a hit here, and I’ll take the #3 peak. I hope we can get That’s What I Get on the countdown very soon, because I’m now loving that one even more, but anyways goodbye great song, and you will be missed by me.

#1 recommendation for Hits 1: ILLENIUM/American Teeth-Insanity

Thank y’all for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
