Miley Cyrus(6): Week of March, 18th 2023
Hello everyone, what’s up? Sorry this post is a bit delayed, but it was my Spring Break after all, so I had some plans this weekend. Overall the countdown was pretty good. Before we get into it though I have an announcement for everyone who would like to participate in part 2 of the 2023 Hitbound Dropouts rankdown. The rankdown is being hosted by BigAwesome2000 of Pulse Music Board and Zestpond(I believe) so if you would like to participate in it please DM BigAwesome2000 your list on Discord or submit it to the link on ZestPonds post(I think he put it on there). The due date is a week from this Friday, which is March 31st, so make sure to get those lists in. Anyways let’s get to this countdown starting with our exits.

Debuts
I talked about both of these debuts last week when they debuted Hitbound, so I’ll try and be short. First up debuting at #30 is Mother by Meghan Trainer. As much I don’t really like Made You Look, I’ve gotta admit that I’m actually a pretty big fan of Meghan Trainers music. My favorite song from her is No from the album Thank You in back from 2016, but in general I just love Meghan’s music because she’s so upbeat and fun with her musical style, and I’ve gotta admit that some of her songs are pretty damn funny. I also just like her voice though(unlike most people I’ve talked to). This new song Mother samples the classic 1954 song Mr Sandman, and I’ve gotta say the sample is used perfectly here, and it’s nice that it’s only the melody from the song that was sampled as aside from actual lyrics. The sample fits in perfectly with the EDM type production and I also like the way Meghan sounds here when she sing,” you’re just a bum bum bum bum bum bum.” It’s catchy and she sounds great overall. Lyrically it’s really whacky, but also very funny and corny at the same time, so I can get behind the lyrics. Overall great song for Meghan. This is the type of stuff she needs to make in the future.
Our highest debut this week at only #28(wow, was expecting this to be higher). Is the next single from Miley Cyrus’s album Endless Summer Vacation called River. Miley has been hit or Miss with me over the years and as much as I love Flowers right now, there’s something about this that doesn’t work well with me, and it’s Miley’s voice. She doesn’t sound great here at all, it’s almost as if she put too much of her country accent into a disco song, cuz that’s what this sounds like honestly. The production is really nice and the lyrics are somewhat good, but the length of the song combined with Miley’s annoying voice make this song not the greatest I’ve heard from Miley, she definitely has better.
Best debut of the week: Meghan Trainer-Mother
Biggest jump of the week: Niall Horan-Heaven(+13) I’m starting to like this song the more I hear it and we all know Hits 1 is gonna make it #1 anyways because,” oh it’s Niall Horan and we just have to simp for him.” I wouldn’t mind it though it’s a pretty good song.
Biggest drop of the week:Tie between SZA-Nobody Gets Me, Meghan Trainer-Made You Look & Coi Leray-Players(-5) I really don’t care about Nobody Gets Me anymore, as it’s already peaked(although it should’ve left this week given the fact it barely had any AirPlay). Made You Look sucks, so yeah, but Players needs to start moving up again. Fun fact it actually dropped the same amount of spots and ended up at the same position as it did on my CrownNote chart this week. I found that interesting.

Debuts
Kicking off our debut list we have a new song for the first time in years from Tori Kelly. I’ve never been a really big fan of Tori’s, so I was curious to see how this song was gonna sound, and well it was actually pretty surprising. This has a lot of 2000s R&B vibes to it and while that isn’t bad, I just kinda think that it good this back from being better because I’m not used to hearing songs like this on modern day radio stations, it sounds great on paper, and I like the concept, but it’s a bit boring. Tori Kelly sounds great on this song though and the writing is kinda nice, but at the same time it’s super forgettable. I wish it was a bit more fun and memorable is all, but it’s not bad per se. Next.
Oh great, next we have Taylor Swift, and if you all don’t know this by now then I should probably let y’all know that I’m really not a big fan of Taylor Swifts anymore. Her music quality has just kinda gone to shit since Reputation came out in 2017, and I also think she releases too many songs at once just for more money and clout(like these 4 unreleased songs she released last week). This song called All of the Girls You Loved before was an outtake from her 2019 album Lover, which was not really that great of an album in my opinion. It was too slow and romantic for my taste. This song is exactly that. The production is kinda nice and somewhat tries to be upbeat, but ends up sounding boring kinda like the title track off the album Lover, and let’s face it Taylor doesn’t really have that great of a voice anymore in my opinion. She doesn’t sound the same as she did when she was much younger, and I’ve just kinda come to not really like her voice over time. The writing here is kinda good, but overall it’s still not that memorable enough for my taste. I think I’ll pass on this one. Next.
Ok I don’t know why we have an old Halsey song on here, but alas Bells From Santa Fe from her 2021 album has debuted Hitbound, and this isn’t that great either. The production isn’t very existent here and very boring and Halsey just doesn’t fit in with the vibe that well here. It’s also extremely forgettable, I can’t even remember what it sounds like. Let’s move on,
Next we have a new single off All Time Low’s new album Tell Me I’m Alive, Yay. I know I didn’t really get into the lead single off this album titled Sleepwalking too much when it was on Hits 1 cuz it debuted right when I had to go on medical hiatus, but I’ve come to really enjoy the song itself, and so I was looking forward to the new album, even though All Time Low aren’t the most popular rock band on planet Earth. The single Hits 1 chose to put on Hitbound was Calm Down, and even though I personally think that Modern Love is better than this, but I still love this. The production is nice and has a really great buildup at the beginning of the song, and it overall sounds great throughout and it’s kinda nice and chill. Alex Gaskarth does a great job on the vocals here and I absolutely love the writing, it’s very catchy and very relatable to how I felt during the recent months about certain events that have taken place in my life. Overall I like this, great song and I hope it can have sone success here like Sleepwalking did.
Lewis Capaldi released the third single off his next album this week called How I’m Felling Now, and this is a kinda slow ballad, but it’s great. The production is nice and slow and sounds good and Lewis puts a lot of effort and emotion into his vocals and sounds great, especially in the chorus. The writing is also very relatable and super catchy. Overall it’s not his best song, but it’s a slow banger.
Next we have yet another ballad, but this time it’s from JVKE. I’ve been really pounding in the sounds lately on This is What Heartbreak Feel Like, so I was really excited when I saw he was coming out with This is What Losing Someone Feels Like, and I have to say that while I didn’t expect it to be as slow as it is, it’s not a bad song at all. The piano production is somewhat boring but really nice and JVKE sounds absolutely amazing here, and it’s definitely his best vocal performance I’ve heard. He put so much emotion into this songs vocals that I thought I was going to cry when I listened to it. The writing also kinda hit me hard though given a few recent events in my life, so overall just a really simple, but really powerful ballad. Great song, I hope it can have a shot here.
Next we have a new song from Nicki Minaj called Red Ruby Da Sleeze, and I am not a Nicki Minaj fan, so I was not at all looking forward to this, and what do ya know, it’s not that great. This sounds like it samples a very familiar song I’ve heard before, and while that’s cool I don’t find it very appealing. The production is weird, and Nicki Minaj doesn’t sound great at all here, but the writing is also kinda super weird, especially the beginning and chorus though. It’s weird and distracting with lines like,” wannabe Chung Li’s.” I don’t really like it and it’s also kinda not that memorable, so yeah not a great song.
Our last debut is Feather by Sabrina Carpenter, and I really like this although it’s not too memorable. Sabrina sounds great and I love the production here, it sounds very bright and fits Sabrina’s voice very well. The writing is good, but like I said not too memorable. Overall though it’s a great song and I wouldn’t mind if ir debuted the countdown.
Ceilings grew a lot on me this past week. It’s such an amazing song.
As for the exits we lost Bruises, Miracle and Next to You. I really like all of these songs, so it sucks to see them go, but more so Miracle because it only got 1 week in Hitbound. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy????????????????????? The other 2 are really great songs too, but they were never bound to be huge hits I don’t think so yeah.
Best Hitbound debut: All Time Low-Calm Down
The abyss
Harry Styles-Daylight
Rema/Selena Gomez-Calm Down
Charlie on a Friday-That’s What I Get
Morgan Wallen-Last Night
Zara Larson-Can’t Tame Her
Macklemore/Collett-No Bad Days
Havana Winter-Death Wish
I now realize that I never reviewed Death Wish by Havana Winter, and just like the other 3 songs Hits 1 has gotten from Havana this one’s not that great. The production is slow and boring and Havana does not sound great and sounds like she has effects on her voice. Also the writing in this song while kinda relatable isn’t that great and I don’t think it portrays a very good message. Overall it’s just another weird Havana Winter song just like the last 3 we got.
Blurbs
Heart Wants What It Wants might be starting to fade on me already, it’s not that great of a song, so I’m kinda not surprised it hasn’t passed a #26 peak yet.
After this week I think I can definitely say I already have 2 contenders for worst song of 2023 already, both Cinderella Snapped and Boys a Liar, which now has gotten to be so annoying that I’ve decided to put it in Orange.
Is Love Again really gonna do anything here, or just hang around the top 20 for a while?
Die for Me jumped 5 more spots. I’m alright with it doing that, but I have a feeling this one’s gonna get really annoying really fast kinda like So Good did.
I would genuinely love to know how Weapons is still here? I thought it would’ve left this week. It’ll probably leave next week.
Lottery got an 8 spot boost and I am happy about that because I am really starting to love it now.
How is Red Flags as high as it is. I’ve barely heard it on Hits 1. I also don’t understand why everyone uses it on their social media posts, it’s not that special of a song. Freezing is much better and should’ve been the single.
Enough finally fell out of the top 10. That was a bit overdue, it’s been here for what seems like a looooooooooooooooooong time. I’d love if it was replaced by That’s What I Get at this point.
Creepin just for some reason cannot get into the top 5 despite being top 5 in AirPlay. Wtf??????
Nonsense fell out of the top 5, and I wouldn’t mind seeing this one go either as it’s kinda starting to fade on me a bit.
Kill Bill is in the top 5 after jumping 5 spots to #3. I hate this song and I’m sick of hearing it everywhere, can we get this shit outta here please.
The top 2 held this week, while the exact same songs were my top 2 this week on my personal CrownNote chart. I don’t really care that Flowers is #1, and I don’t care if it stays there or not, but at the same time it would be cool to see 10:35 hit #1. There’s something about Tiesto’s dark production style in this song(and all the songs off his upcoming album Drive). That just brings Spring vibes to my world. I see it as a Spring Break type song, and this week was my Spring break, so it was pure vibes listening to it all week. I really don’t care if it stays here and hits #1 or goes though, but it would be nice for it to have a shot at being the first EDM songs in 3 years to hit #1 here. The last one was Come & Go by Marshmello/Juice Wrld back in October 2020, and there hasn’t been one since, so while I love Flowers I’m kinda also pulling for this song to hit #1, even though it probably won’t.
As for our exits this week we lost Been Thinking and I’m Not Here to Make Friends. I never really cared for Been Thinking and realize now how forgettable it was. I can’t even remember it 2 seconds after it ends, lol, and as for I’m Not Here to Make Friends, I think it’s a great song and it should’ve stuck around longer, but it was dying everywhere and a bit weird, plus it kinda faded on me to, so I don’t completely mind seeing it go.
#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Regard/Ella Henderson-No Sleep
Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
