Miley Cyrus(5): Week of March, 11th 2023
Hello everyone and what’s up? Sorry my post is late this week, but I had plans over the weekend as it’s finally Spring break for me(Thank God). Real quick, I’m sure everyone here is wondering when my worst songs of 2022 list and some of the other year end stuff will be out, and I’m not sure as of right now, but I’m probably gonna be working on the worst list over break, so probably soon, although I’ll probably get a bit busy again after the break, but luckily I’ll most likely have off for a month and a half in May, so I can work on some of it then to and in between. Anyways let’s just jump in now, this wasn’t a very memorable Countdown, so……………..Yeah…………

Debuts
Well, our first debut is definitely a relatable one for me right now, it’s called This is What Heartbreak Feels Like and it replaces Golden Hour this week for JVKE. I didn’t really like JVKE or his style of music when This is What Falling in Love Feels Like made its debut last April, but since then I kinda got used to his style through hearing Golden Hour over the past 6 months, and while I will say he’s not a set in stone perfect artist or his styles not exactly perfect, I do like his music and I think I’m getting used to it. I listened to his debut album(which I will not even attempt to type out the title of here because it’s simply too much). And I actually quite liked it. There’s songs about falling in love, being in love, getting your heart broken, being sad, falling out of love and overall feeling like complete shit sometimes, and I’ve felt all of those feelings during my hiatus, so I can feel super relatable to this. I think that this song isn’t actually the strongest single choice off the album(that would be Moon and Back) but in my opinion it’s the best off the album. I absolutely love the way this starts out, it starts with a piano melody, just as Golden Hour did, but it’s a very dark sounding melody and it really sets this up to be an overall great song. The production does a really nice job evolving into this trappy mix that sounds really good when it’s mixed together, as well as the dark vibe just matches everything we get here. JVKE sounds really good here, although I can do without some of his screaming in the chorus, but like as in some songs I think the screaming enhances this, rather than takes away from it, and it shows us that he has a pretty good vocal range. The lyrics on this are also super catchy and dark, in fact I actually had the exact feeling that the lyrics state in the first verse for a few weeks, but I won’t go into detail on that, all that matters is that I like the writing and it makes me feel not quite great or empowered, but super relatable, and sometimes it takes my feelings off my mind it feels like and I feel better when I listen to this, just because I’ve had my issues with heartbreak recently. Overall great song, I really hope it can become as big as Golden Hour, but something is telling me that’s not gonna happen.
What is it about Gracie Abrams that Hits 1 sees is so special? I know I missed her first songs run on the countdown, but I’m sorry it was not for me, and nor is this one. I Know it Won’t Work is just not good. I can get behind the dark vibe and the writing a bit, but Gracie’s voice is just not good. I feel like she’s a worse version of Tate McRae. Also couple that with the fact that I can barely even remember what this sounds like after I hear it, and yeah you can probably get where I’m going here. It’s not that good of a song, next.
Oh for the love of god, why must this next song be here???????????????? Our highest debut this week is Cinderella Snapped from none other than previous Hits 1 to watch Jax. Alright, I’ve said this before I liked 90s Kids from 2021 and I also really liked her Hitbound dropout from early 2022 called To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, but ever since Victoria’s Secret came out last Summer and broke Jax through the mainstream radio world, I started feeling as if she took her music in the completely wrong direction, and she is doing just that. This is essentially Victoria’s Secret 2.0, in the fact that it’s more pop-punk style in its production, which normally I would love, but I’m sorry y’all, Jax should not be making this style of music. I mean I kinda like the production here, but it’s her and her writing that I can absolutely not stand. I get it that young artists wanna make music on girly, sensitive subjects, but it’s just not what everyone wants to hear. I am one of those people where if they play this on the radio(haven’t encountered it during the day yet on Hits 1) I’d skip it because the writing is just too much. We really didn’t need to know Victoria’s pretty little secret that she was made up by a dude in Ohio, and now we don’t need to know about how little princess girl Cinderella had to snap because she couldn’t get her Prince and fall in love with him. Hey Jax, Y’know I’m having the same issues right now, although it’s with girls instead of guys, and I get that you want to write songs about it(I’ve actually tried writing songs about it) but sometimes it’s just not right to talk about and write about in an angry song where your screaming your lungs out. It is also my understanding however that this is a woman’s empowerment anthem made for Woman’s History Month, really????????????????????? Cuz it doesn’t sound like, so I’m not believing that one. Anyways, Jax I hope your song doesn’t have a great run here. Ok I think I’ve said enough about this.
Best Countdown Debut: JVKE-This is What Heartbreak Feels Like
Biggest jump for the week: PinkPanthress/Ice Spice-Boys a Liar, Pr 2(+8) Why must this song be popular? This is such dogshit.
Biggest drop of the week: The Kid Laroi-Love Again(-4) I like this song, but I know it’s probably struggling here because it’s a ballad, and I’m alright with that cuz I had a hard time keeping myself into this at first, but with time I’m sure this will become a hit.
Countdown Extra: Jessie Murph-Where Do You Go?
Last years #1 song: Ed Sheeran-Overpass Graffiti(4/5 weeks at #1)

Debuts
So I know that historically most people in this community don’t like Meghan Truiner, well I do. She’s had some great and funky bops over the years, and she was only getting better until Made You Look came out, and then I started worrying about her style and the way she’d take it with all this TikTok crap we see nowadays, but needless to say I actually really like Mother. It samples the melody of the 1954 song Mr Sandman(wow, that’s really old) and it does it in absolutely great fashion. It was used in such an appropriate way to make this sound more catchier and fun, and then mix that with a really cool sounding EDM beat, and you have yourself a bop and a half right there. Meghan sounds great vocally and I don’t really mind the weird lyrics in this one, they’re catchy and they don’t sound too weird. Great song, next.
Next we have the follow up single to Flowers off of Endless Summer Vacation called River, and wow, I’m a bit shocked here. I now am in love with Flowers(see blurbs), and so naturally I had very high expectations for this, but it kinda sucks. The production is nice I guess, but Miley doesn’t even sound like herself here. I mean I’ve heard Miley sound horrible in songs like Nothing Breaks Like a Heart and Malibu, and that’s cuz her country accent was just not matching the vibe in songs like those, but here she sounds more like a vocalist who should use their voice on a demo of a song. She’s too much demo voice sounding here, but with a few added affects on her voice to make her sound shittier, and it just kinda took my expectations for this and put them in the garbage. The vocals really distracted me that much. There’s also the issue of it doesn’t seem long enough. I swear why do mainstream artists like to have shorter songs nowadays? It’s really stupid. This is Miley Cyrus, who’s the most popular artist on the planet right now, this should be 4 minutes long and not 2 and a half. I know that may seem like a stupid complaint, but it just feels a bit too short for a song that’s poised to right now be a pretty big hit. Overall, not my favorite, I’d prefer Muddy Feet with Sia instead of this. Next.
Ok next we have an artist who I’ve been wanting to listen to and talk about for a while now, but I just never had time to, well, wa-la folks she’s on Hits 1 now and her name is Lizzy McAlpine. How do I know of her? I know her because Daniel recommends her songs in the Hits 1 discord all the time and always asks me to listen to them, but I’ve never really thought about it too much sense she’s an unknown artist to me, but now luckily I had to listen to her song Ceilings for this review, and I was actually so excited. Now when I turned on the song for the first time on Friday night however I grew less excited because it sounded like Conan Grays Heather at first(which was one of the worst songs of 2020), but after she started singing I actually started to realize how nice of a song this is. Lizzy has a really great and unique voice and I really enjoyed the writing here, it’s depressing but very heartfelt and it makes me feel as if I fell in love with someone, and well that’s super relatable to my world right now. It’s also kinda catchy. The production is slow, but it evolves more towards the end Which is nice. Great song, I hope it can have a shot on the countdown.
Next up we have another Mimi Webb song on Hitbound, this one’s called Freezing and it’s pretty good. The production is nice and upbeat and Mini sounds great. The lyrics are cool and yeah that’s pretty much all, just a very solid Mimi Webb song.
Next up we have a new Nicky Youre song from a Netflix movie called The Magic Elephant, and it’s titled Found. Overall after giving this a few listens, I’d say this is my least favorite song from Nicky Youre, but it’s great. The production is nice and upbeat and it sounds like an all out party song. The writing is very positive and happy sounding, which I love although slightly repetitive in the chorus and Nicky does a very great job on the vocals as always. Nice song.
Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding released a new song this week called Miracle. I loved their first 2 collabs, but I Need Your Love was the better one in my opinion. This doesn’t quite match either of those last 2 songs, but it’s still very good. I absolutely am on board with the really fast paced trance vibe that he produced on this one, and the piano melody sounds magically amazing here. Ellie Goulding sounds great on this too and it’s pretty catchy. Overall, I like this, I hope we can get some trance on the countdown with this.
Our last debut is from Benson Boone, who’s back with an actual radio single called Sugar Sweet. I went into this with high expectations because I kinda liked some of the stuff we got from him, but I came out of my listen asking,” BENSONUHHHHHHH WHAT HAPPENDUHHHHH? WHY DID YOU MAKE A SONG THAT SUCKSUHHHHHH???????????(by the way if you don’t know this it’s a very commonly used sports joke for when a really good team gets beaten, or a team blows a really big lead). Anyways yeah this is Bensons worst song I have ever heard. He sounds horrible here vocally and the production while very upbeat is just very odd sounding and doesn’t really match the vibe of his voice very well. The writing here is alright, but the song overall just needed a different vocalist and less basic production to be good. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOU BENSON!
We lost the demo ballad of Flowers, I Guess it’s Love, Shut Me Up, If We Ever Broke Up, Bite and Lost. The Flowers ballad never needed to be here, and the original is much better, so I don’t really care, I Guess it’s Love left after only a week, but it wasn’t that great. Shut Me Up is an amazing song that I’m gonna miss, but it was replaced by Found which is also very good. If We Ever Broke Up was kinda cool and I would’ve loved to see it have a shot, but oh well, same thing goes for Bite and lastly, Lost was a great comeback song for Linkin Park, why did it have to go??????????????????
Best Hitbound debut: This is tough, but I will give this to Ceilings because I’m falling in love with it the more I hear it.
The abyss
Harry Styles-Daylight
Rema/Selena Gomez-Calm Down
Charlie on a Friday-That’s What I Get
Morgan Wallen-Last Night
Zara Larson-Can’t Tame Her
I’m not sure why this thing still exists, but at least there’s only 1 bad song here at the moment.
Blurbs
Been Thinking is less memorable than I remember ir being. Why is this really here even?
Die 4 Me moved up 5 spots. I’m sure this will become popular here, as Hits 1 seems to love Halsey, but come on come up with an original song please next time, don’t steal one from Post Malone.
Wings moved up 6 spots. I don’t mind this, but I still feel like I haven’t gotten used to it being less than 2 minutes.
Thank God moved down 3 spots. I kinda saw that coming given the fact that it doesn’t have much AirPlay, but I’m alright with it.
Let me address the fact that Nobody Gets Me has like 8 spins in the last 7 days according to XMPlaylist, yet it’s still #4 on the countdown? Uh wtf?????? It’s not even on the AllAccess AirPlay updates I get every day in the Discord. That’s weird and quite frankly stupid to keep a song that high on the countdown if it has that little AirPlay. I see a new record for highest exit next week maybe.
Flowers remains in the #1 spot now for a 5th week, and I will say that it has now come to be my favorite song at the moment, it’s so great. Miley sounds great and the craft on the production is just amazing sounding. I hope it can get another week at #1 and uh I know I didn’t love As It Was, but I’m hoping this can have an As It Was type run here. I’d love that.
We lost Evangeline, Too Well and Golden Hour. I don’t really care that Evangeline is gone since it was boring as all hell, Golden Hour had a really great run here and I like the new song more, so I could care less about that, and Too Well is in the abyss, which sucks cuz I still love it, but I’m starting to catch onto Bruises more now though, so I wouldn’t mind if it fully replaced it on the countdown, although that’s not likely to happen.
#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Still I’ll take any song from Sigala.
Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
Bruh. For some reason my google account isn’t working. It’s HrishK music btw
ReplyDeleteYou forgot to review Nicky you’re - found.
Fixed
DeleteNobody Gets Me should leave the countdown because it has tumbled in airplay
ReplyDeleteYeah I’m currently wondering why it’s still here, it’s not even ok the AllAccess AirPlay update, but XMPlaylist at the same missed all but 1 countdown spin it had from this past weekend, so we don’t really know how much it has at this point.
DeleteI also hate Cinderella Snapped big time, btw it’s Tyler.
ReplyDeleteWe ended up commenting at the exact same time, lol.
DeleteNOOOOOO RIP IM NOT HERE TO MAKE FRIENDS :(
