Taylor Swift(1): Week of November, 19th 2022

Hello everyone and what’s up? Welcome back to another weird, but yet interesting countdown. This week definitely had some interesting things happen, but before we get into it all a few announcements. First off let’s talk year end stuff, I just found out today that I’ll be out of town for Christmas, so I’ll be gone December 18th-27th so that means my post for the Christmas Eve countdown will be delayed, but that also means that I really have to plan out when I should start my year end posts because with finals coming up in a few weeks and other obligations I’m gonna be slammed with stuff, so I’ll make a deal with you guys. I’m going to start my year end stuff this week, I don’t know when it’ll come out, but it’ll come either before or after Christmas, so just be patient with me on that. One more announcement, I recently saw on Hippos blog that he’d be interested in doing a rankdown for his Apple Music replay of 2022, and I’d actually be down to do one of my own replay. All the songs would be from 2022 and most of them I’d say were  on Hits 1, but some weren’t, so let me know if you’d be interested in participating(note you will have to rank a shit ton of songs off So Far So Good if we do this, so if we decide to do it y’all have to be prepared to listen to pretty much a whole album, minus 3 songs maybe, just telling you guys that now). Let me know if your interested and maybe I’ll talk with the Discord more about it as the Hitbound dropouts Rankdown is starting soon as the tracking period comes to an end next week, and since Hippo also wants to do a 2022 countdown extras rankdown, anyways more on that fun stuff later, but for now let’s get into this interesting countdown starting with our exits.

Debuts

We got no debuts this week, just 2 re-entries this week from Sleepwalking at #29 and Uh Oh at #18. I’m alright with both of these re-entering even though one is kinda forgettable and the other is not Tate McRae’s best song.

Biggest jump of the week: Avril Lavigne/Yungblud-I’m a Mess;+8). I’m glad this is getting a big push here. It’s a nice little song.

Biggest drop of the week: REMA/Selena Gomez-Calm Down(-8) They really don’t know what to do with this song do they?

Countdown extra: Louis Tomlinson-Silver Tongues

Last years #1 song Ed Sheeran-Shivers(5/15 long and excruciating weeks at #1)

My favorite song from last year: Ed Sheeran-Overpass Graffiti(why did I like this song so much when it first came out?)

My least favorite song from last year: Doja Cat-Need to know

Regard/Drop-G/A-Sho-No Love For You

Rihanna-Born Again

Kim Petra-If Jesus Was a Rockstar(Debut)

Jxdn-Sober(Debut)

Ava Max-Weapons

AJR-The DJ is Crying for Help(Debut)

Bailey Zimmerman-Rock and a Hard Place

Lila Drew-Used To(Debut)

Benson Boone-Before You

Debuts

We’re kicking off the Hitbound debuts with some random artist who o never thought would debut named Isabel LaRosa. This is her song I’m Yours, and it’s really nothing too great or special. She doesn’t really sound that great here, and the production is kinda weird. I don’t love the tempo switch between the verses and the chorus, it just makes it sound weirder and quite frankly creepier than it is. The writing is eh alright also, but nothing special. Overall nothing that should be a hit. Next.

Next we have Kim Petras’s solo follow up to Unholy called If Jesus Was a Rockstar(what a lovely name). This is decent, but again not special. First off what are the lyrics and title supposed to mean? Like I legit don’t understand it. Second, the production is basic, but really good sounding actually and Kim sounds great here, but it’s not too memorable or catchy at all. Overall decent, but it doesn’t need to be a hit.

Oh sweet, they picked up my recommendation for once. Next, we have more of Jxdn, who is one of my favorite rockers. Last year he broke out with Nesa Barrett and also had a really good solo album called Tell Me About Tomorrow, and I really liked the singles off of it, as both made my year end list last year. One of them was even a Hits 1 to watch(the one with MGK called Wanna Be). Anyways, so I was pretty excited about this dropping and I’m loving it. Jxdn sounds great here, and the production from Barker is really good, it’s more pop sounding and joyous than in his last songs I think. The writing is also very good and overly catchy. Overall great song, and I hope it becomes a hit here.

One artist who I was most certainly looking forward to new music from is next and that is Nicky Youre. Sunroof was a big hit not only on Hits 1, but everywhere else and it hit #1, and now he has a follow up for us called Eyes On You. This is great, it has a really nice and bright vibe like Sunroof does, and it reminds me a lot of California(which is nice since I’m from there) the writing is pretty good to, and Nicky sounds great. I love this, I just wish it was released in the summer. Let’s hope it does well here, next.

An artist I was most certainly not looking forward to was Nicki Minaj however since she’s really annoying in my opinion, and this week she brings us a new song that was written for the upcoming World Cup called Tukah Taka and it has Maluma and someone named Myriam Fares on it also, what is the actual fuck is this??????????????????????? First off the chorus is overly annoying and whoever is singing it sounds dumb. Nicki sounds horrible on her verse, and Maluma nor Myriam Fares sound much better. The production I can kinda get behind, but it just doesn’t make sense for Maluma to be on trap. This is just the weirdest and stupidest mashup I’ve heard. Next.

Next we have a new song from AJR called The DJ is Cryibg for Help. This is not really what I expected from AJR, but I really like it. It’s a ballad, so the production is really slow, but nice and Jack sounds great here vocally. The lyrics are interesting though, it’s about someone who can’t really decide what to do with his life, while everyone around him can, and I really like that, it really speaks to me. Overall great song. I hope it can debut.

Lastly, we have another random singer named Lila Drew and her song called Used To, and this is really forgettable. She sounds alright I guess and the production is nice, but I literally can’t remember anything else about it.

We lost 10:35, Hollywood Forever and Never Gonna Not Dance again. Hollywood Forever I’m alright with cuz it’s not like it was gonna be popular anyways. Never Gonna Not Dance Again was also very good, but it’s not her best song, so I’m alright with that one to, but 10:35, noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, what the fuck? FUCK YOU HITS 1, I AM SO DONE WITH EDM GETTING FUCKED OVER IN 2022. This song is amazing, this is absolute bullshit, I hope it does what The Motto did and comes back, because it’s literally just as good as that song is. You’ll know, you’ll know in 2023 Hits 1, EDM is gonna come back and be popular again, don’t believe me, well The Chainsmokers have released some teasers for some songs off their upcoming album, and some of these sound like Hits, so don’t think you can just sleep on EDM, like you are with 10/35 you stupid fuckers, cuz it’ll be back, it’ll be back and brand new, and fuck you for replacing this with Tukah Taka whatever the fuck it’s called it’s bullshit. You’ll learn eventually, but for now fuck you guys, and If shit happens with Regard then the rant will be longer, so don’t even think about dropping it. Rant over.

Best Hitbound debut: Jxdn-Sober

The Abyss

The Weeknd-Die for You

Sia-Unstoppable

DJ Snake/Summer Walker/Ayenna-Power(Remember Who You Are)

Beach Weather-Sex, Drugs, etc

Omar Apollo-Evergreen(You Don’t deserve me at all)

Panic At The Disco!-Don’t Let the Light Go Out

Charli D’Amelio-If You Ask Me To

Avery Anna-Narcissist

Måneskin-The Loneliest

Taylor Swift-Lavender Haze

If you ask me to and Narcissist are now in the abyss.

Sweet, I get to share my thoughts on a song that debuted Hitbound while I was away, it’s Maneskin’s latest song called The Loneliest. I’ve loved all of Maneskin’s music ever since Beggin came out last year, and this is really good too. I love how they went for more of a chill rock vibe in this one since it’s much slower and more chilled out. The vocals from the singer sound good and he fits in very nicely, and the writing is overall great. Overall I am loving this song right now.

Alright, so ladies and gentlemen I finally decided to listen to Lavender Haze by Taylor Swift, and I was honestly not very impressed by it(like I’m not impressed with most of her overrated music nowadays). This was just not a song I would’ve pushed to radio, and yes it’s confirmed to be the next single off Midnights. Taylor does not sound good here vocally and the production does not fit her voice at all. I like how she went out of her comfort zone a bit with this sound, but it didn’t work out that well.

Blurbs

I am really starting to like Lift Me Up after seeing the new Black Panther movie with some friends. It really fits into the context of the dim well and is a nice little short ballad for the end credit scene. It should be doing way better here.

How is So Good still here?

My Mind & Me jumped 4 spots. It’s always nice to see Selena get some success, even if the song is a bit slow.

Hahahabababababababababababababa. Super Freaky Girl fell 7 spots. Keep it up Hits 1.

Why is Made You Look becoming so popular? It’s very unappealing and weird and it shouldn’t have jumped into the top 20.

Left and Right fell another 4 spots. This one is just going way too soon I feel, probably because it feels to me as if it hit #1 only yesterday.

Snap also jumped 5 spots, which is nice to see.

Hold Me Closer also decided to jump although it is losing traction elsewhere(except for my local station where it’s top of the AirPlay chart)

I’m Good has now grown to be my favorite countdown song(Insert facepalms here)

Woah, Taylor Swift really is overrated isn’t she? Anti-Hero just stole #1 from Unholy after a week, and I don’t want to complain because it’s a way better song, but it just kinda spells out that she’s overrated when you know that this song has only been out a month and it’s already #1 here. I think I’ll expect an As It Was type run for this song moving forward. Congratulations Taylor how many #1s has she had here?????????? I can’t even count. The more I hear this song though the more I do kinda fade on it, and some of the overrating has to do with that(much like with Harry Styles and Beyonce) but if it’s blocking Unholy then I’m happy with it.

We lost Late Night Talking and Numb this week. I’m alright with both these songs leaving. They were both good and had great runs here, even though the former blocked the latter from being #1 it’s alright. It’s been 2 months now since I’ve endured the scariest moment of my life, and both these songs were in power rotation during that whole thing, and the former was the last #1 song before that all happened, and while I really wish that wasn’t the case I accept it cuz I should’ve known it was gonna be #1 anyways, but what’s crazier is the way it fell down the countdown. It, nor any songs from Harry’s House made the cut for my top 40 of the year, however I like this song enough and am kinda sad to see it go, as for Numb, it will be on my top 40 of the year, and while I really wish it had hit #1 here, I’m alright with its run since I never thought it would make it to the top 3 anyways. Goodbye great songs you will be missed by me.

  8. Does anybody know all the songs from the abyss that never debuted from November 27th 2021 - November 26th 2022? I'm using this for my rankdown.

    1. For the Rankdown we only use abyss songs if they dropped out from Hitbound, any song that just trended and randomly appeared in the abyss won’t be used for the Rankdown, or else there would be way more songs than we need. ZestPond pasted the song list for part 1 above I think, so that everyone could see.
