Sam Smith/Kim Petras(1): Week of November, 12th 2022

Hello everyone and what’s up? Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh…………………………….. this week was…………………………………………………. Not great, not great at all. We got a nice little surprise for a new #1 song, and I am particularly not at all happy about this one(huge rant incoming, sorry if you do like this song). This was so sudden and unexpected and bad that my mental health took another shit on me(yes over one stupid song hitting #1) and I really wanted to quit blogging after this weekend, but I later realized that maybe it’s not that bad, even if I do have to rant about it, and that maybe I was just under stress for other reasons. Anyways, a few announcements before we get into the countdown. First off part 1 of the 2022 Hitbound dropouts is starting soon, and some of us are already starting to rank songs, and although no forms or pages have been set up yet to submit your lists, you should probably start ranking early if you’d like to participate because it’s a lot of songs, so if you’d like to participate let me know down in the comments and I will copy and paste the list down there for part 1. Second, I don’t know when my year end posts will be out. I’d like to get them out sometime in December, but because of exams and me not knowing whether I’m staying home or going away for Christmas this year is kinda conflicting with the timeline and planning of those posts, so for now while I don’t know my plans for the holidays let’s just say that they’ll come either before or after Christmas or New years, so look forward to them eventually, and finally I just wanted to share that my CrownNote charts will now be linked in the sidebar of this blog, so If you wanna see them and follow them weekly they’ll be up there once I get this post out. Anyways, that’s all for now, and let’s get into this really not so great countdown starting with the exits.

Debuts

Both our debuts came from last weeks Hitbound, so I’ll go over them very briefly, first we have a new single from Avril Lavigne called I’m a Mess, and this one has Youngblud in it. I still think I need to listen to it a bit more to get fully on board, but it’s a great little alternative tune. Avril sounds great and Youngblud brings in a nice verse to back her up and sounds good also. The production starts out really slow, but builds up and sounds very good in the later parts of the song actually. Barker did a nice job with the upbeat but slow drum beat and it mixes very nicely and makes the vibe great. Overall great song, although Love it when you hate me was better.

Our second and highest debut this week was Selena Gomez’s new song called My Mind & Me. While this song is boring in every bit, I actually do really like it. The production is very slow and boring, but the melody’s used are very nice and the tempo is set at a nice rhythm. Selena does talk sing a bit in the verses, but unlike some of her other songs she sounds really really great(take that Ashe and Walker Hayes). The chorus is where she sounds the best though and she shines there the most. The lyrics are all very relatable too, and they’re very well written, overall great song, hopefully I can watch the documentary.

Best debut: Selena Gomez-My Mind & Me

Biggest jump of the week: Taylor Swift-Anti-Hero(+13) This song is so incredibly overrated if it hit the top 5 on its 3rd week, but it’s way better than our new #1, so I guess I’m alright with it.

Biggest drop of the week: Elton John/Brittney Spears-Hold Me Closer(-9) Yeah this song is no Cold Heart, it’s already past it’s peak, yet it’s at the top of the AirPlay chart on my local station. Good song, but it just wasn’t really needed I guess.

Countdown Extra: Joji-Die for you

Last years #1 song: Ed Sheeran-Shivers(4/14 long and excruciating weeks at #1)

My favorite song from last year: The Kid Laroi/Justin Beiber-Stay

My least favorite song from last year: Oliver Tree-Life Goes On

Hitbound

Joji-Die for you

Ava Max-Weapons;Debut)

Bailey Zimmerman-Rock and a Hard Place

Rihanna-Born Again(Debut)

Meghan Trainer-Made You Look(why is this still here?)

Charli D’amelio-If You Ask Me To

Louis Tomlinson-Silver Tongues(Debut)

Avril Lavigne/Youngblud-I’m a Mess

Becky Hill/David Guetta-Remember

Benson Boone-Before You

Avery Anna-Narcissist

Tiesto/Tate McRae-10:35

Sabrina Carpenter-Nonsense

Havanna Winter-Hollywood Forever

Regard/Drop-G/A-Sho-No Love for You

P!nk-Never Gonna Not Dance Again

Debuts

First up, we have a new single from Ava Max’s album Diamonds and Dancefloors that’ll be out in January 2023, and I gotta say as much as I’ve been really enjoying Million Dollar Baby lately, I think Weapons is the best we’ve heard from her this year. The lyrics are so catchy and convey a really great and powerful message. Ava sounds amazing on the vocals, and although the production sounds a bit basic, it fits in perfectly with the vibe of the song and the writing perfectly. Overall will it become a hit? I don’t know, but I’m hoping it smashes here.

Next we have the second single from The Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Soundtrack from Rihanna called Born Again. This is apparently the song used in the end credit scene, and I’m sorry, but what in the actual fuck is this shit? This is both weird and boring combined to make a really stupid song that shouldn’t even be considered as a single. Rihanna doesn’t sound great here at all, and the production is a huge issue, it’s so substance-less and boring, up until the ending and what is that even? The ending to this song is completely weird and sounds so messed up. Overall why does this exist even? I think I’ll listen to Lift Me Up instead. Next.

Our last debut is from Louis Tomlinson because you know of course it is since it’s Hits 1 and they just have to clout on every member of 1D. Anyways this is some random track off his new album Faith in the Future called Silver Tongues, and it’s pretty good actually. I really like Louis’s voice here and the nice alternative production revolves very nicely, it’s not very memorable lyrically, but it is what it is I guess. Great song I guess.

As for the Hitbound exits we lost I Remember and Common. I like both these songs and I’m sad they’re both gone, but especially I Remember since it was actually being pushed outside of Hits 1, oh well though I guess not every song can become a hit here(like I’ve learned a million other times this year). As for common, it’s not big, but I like it enough and have  it on my chart, and it would’ve been cool to see it make the countdown, but it’s not big, so I can deal with it being gone,

Best Hitbound debut: Ava Max-Weapons

The Abyss

The Weeknd-Die for You

Sia-Unstoppable

DJ Snake/Summer Walker/Ayenna-Power(Remember Who You Are)

Tate McRae-Uh Oh

Beach Weather-Sex, Drugs, etc

Omar Apollo-Evergreen(You Don’t deserve me at all)

Panic At The Disco!-Don’t Let the Light Go Out

We gained Sleepwalking and lost Jimmy Cooks. I’m not sure exactly why Hits 1 can’t make Drake a thing, but in my opinion there’s better songs off Her Loss than Jimmy Cooks ever was, so I don’t mind seeing it leave as much. As for Sleepwalking I’m alright with it still being here,

Blurbs

The overrated Cuff It dropped 6 spots. Why is this shit even popular? It’s so overrated and gross. I’m glad it dropped 6 spots cuz that’s a hard fall. Now if they could just decrease the amount of spins they’re giving it and drop it that would be very much appreciated by me.

So Good is getting so boring, so why is it jumping 4 spots. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Calm Down is sorta forgettable, but I am starting to get it stuck in my head sometimes(specifically Selena’s part) I wouldn’t really mind it becoming a hit actually. How long has it been here for again? Oh wait 10 weeks, how long is that about, my sense of time is kinda lost now.

Enough jumped 6 spots, and I’m really starting to like this song a lot. I hope this becomes a huge hit, although something tells me the chances of that happening are not good.

Until I found you jumping 4 spots. 😑.

Oh come on why did Star Walkin have to drop 4 spaces???? Don’t let this go too fast Hits 1, let’s get it to #1 fast.

Million Dollar Baby left the top 5. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! That was so uncalled for, especially with its replacement.

On the bright side of things at least Lizzo fell hard from #1 and out of the top 5. I’ve been sick of this song for 3 months now.

Looks like Music for a sushi restaurant won’t be a hit here. I want to laugh at this, but I really can’t with our new #1.

Um excuse me why is Victoria’s Secret all of a sudden at #2? I was sure this would fall after a 4 week stint at #4.

And now ladies and gentlemen get ready for a big fat rant.

OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!!!!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO, PLEASE GOD NO! WHY IN FUCKING HELL IS UNHOLY #1. WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK HITS 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did not ask for this shit to hit #1. It’s hard for me to believe that this shitshow has been out for a little less than 2 months now, I mean I only reviewed this first when it was in the abyss for my catch-up post after my first stroke, but since I had to take leave this song has become so popular to the point that it’s unacceptable as all fuck. People who the fuck would wanna listen to this shit for hours on end and make it wanna become a hit???????? I sure as hell wouldn’t and it’s embarrassing that America is overrating this gross and shitty song right now, and making children be exposed to it. I even just found out that it might leapfrog over Bad Habit for #1 on AT40 in a few weeks when Bad Habit is supposed to have its turn at #1. If that happens I think I’ll be done following AT40 and will not even look at any blog posts about AT40. This song is really not good for my mental health because when I’m going through a lot of medically induced stress knowing that this song hit #1 here really stressed me out to the point of where I really just wanted to quit blogging or step away for longer, but the only reason I’m doing this because I like this countdown, but that does not mean I like this song in a single way. Hits 1 the next time you fuck over EDM for shit I think I’ll unsubscribe from your little survey shit because you never seem to take my opinions on songs seriously(although I will admit I haven’t been doing the surveys since my medical thing) but next time do something called PUT EDM AT #1 YOU STUPID ASS BITCH ASS FUCKS. Rant over,

As for the exits I already said what I needed to say about Sleepwalking and the only other exit was Vegas, and while I really would’ve loved to see this go farther and become a bigger hit here, I think it still had a great run and spent a considerably great amount of time on the countdown. I love the song and it’s one of the many great movie soundtrack hits of the year. Unfortunately I’ve already determined it won’t make my top 40 of the year, but it will be an honorable mention and will be very much missed by me,

#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Jxdn-Sober

Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
