Debuts

Kicking off our list of debuts this week is a new song from EDM producer Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa, and it also features vocals from rapper Young Thug. It’s called Potion, and it’s a pretty awesome song. I’ve always liked Calvin Harrisss music and I really liked his last collab with Dua Lipa from 2018 called One Kiss. This one isn’t quite as good, but it’s still great. First off the production here has a super nice Summer vibe to it, and it sounds like It goes for a funk or disco vibe, very similar to Calvin Harrises songs off his last album Slide and Feels, both of which are 2 of my favorites from him. Dua Lipa sounds great here, and I like how she went for more sexy vocals here than in her other songs cuz honestly it works out to her advantage really well. Young Thug sounds great here to, although he sounds like he has some slight affects on his voice in parts of his verse, but I really like both his verse and the little bridge he does here to. He honestly fits in so well with the whole vibe.  Lyrically this is pretty sexy, and given the fact that I don’t really like sexual music you may expect me not to like this, but nope your wrong if you guessed that, cuz I love this a lot. It’s great, fun, catchy, upbeat and Summery all in one song. Overall I wanna see this smash here, and I think it will given hits 1s reputation with Dua Lipa.

Ok, so out of all the songs I thought were going to debut this countdown, I saw every one of them coming, every one of them that is except for this next one. This ones called Until I found you and it’s by some guy named Stephen Sanchez. Now how this actually is here compared to a few of the songs in the abyss I have exactly no clue, but I guess I’m alright with it for now. This is a decent song, but it’s just not something that I think should really be on radio. The production is super slow, but what I do like about it is that it totally sounds like a 50s or 60s song that my grandparents would probably hear playing in a soda or candy shop back in their time, and even though it’s not something I really wanna hear on the radio, it’s kinda unique. Stephen Sanchez sounds good here I guess, his voice reminds me somewhat of both Harry Styles and Elton John if they were mixed together, and I find it unique. The writing is super nice to, albeit a bit boring though and not really memorable or catchy. Overall this is very unique, but it’s not a radio song. Next.

Hey ladies and gentlemen look what we have next, for the first time in what seems like forever, rising up out of the abyss(keep in mind no songs from there have debuted in months) we have Doja Cat on Get into it(Yuh). I’m really pleased, now if we could also work on getting some of the other songs out of that damn thing(especially the EDM ones) that would be great. Does anyone remember when this debuted Hitbound a long time ago when I first started blogging, back in September? If not then you should probably know that I found this song completely unappealing when it first debuted, but it was decent. Then it got more popular because it was featured in a Taco Bell commercial, and that’s why I really started to like it. First off let’s talk about the writing here. This has got to be the most stupid, dumb, and nonsensical writing I have ever seen in a song, but it absolutely slaps and is totally appealing. It’s just too damn catchy that I can’t get this out of my head when I hear it. Doja sounds great here honestly for a trap song, and I really like how fast she can sing. The production here is great to. It’s very well produced and it fits in perfectly, that melody used in the beginning is just awesome to, and so catchy. Overall great song, now let’s hope it can do something here, like the rest of Doja Cats songs.

Lastly but most certainly not least we have another single from Harry Styles making the countdown. Now going into this morning knowing how much I heard Potion during the week, and not this song, I thought,” oh Potion will be the highest debut.” Yeah how wrong was I on that one, honestly I probably should’ve seen this one debuting higher honestly cuz it’s Harry, but who really cares. I’ve been kinda growing into As it was recently, but this song is honestly way better. I still find Music for a sushi restaurant slightly better than this, but for a radio single, this was a pretty damn good choice for a song off Harry’s House. The production here is awesome, it sounds like it has some really nice 80s influence to it, and it’s bright and happy sounding and upbeat, a bit basic, but amazing. Harry fits in so well here to than any other song off the album, he gives a really amazing vocal performance here, and he just reminds me of Elvis or David Bowie, and I don’t know why. The lyrics are kinda catchy to, and the writing is really good here. Overall I’m digging this one, and hey I’m ready for it to hit #1 here, cuz I know that’ll happen at some point.

Best countdown debut: that’s a really hard one, but I’m gonna go with Calvin Harris/Dua Lipa/Young Thug-Potion

Biggest jump of the week: Lauren Spencer-Smith-Flowers(+7) my mind is absolutely blown as to how this got the biggest jump because it’s been in the bottom 5 of AirPlay all week, and while this song isn’t really as good as Fingers crossed, I’m glad it jumped because although it’s slightly boring it’s a nice little song to listen to. I hope it can jump up in AirPlay though and do well here.

Biggest drop of the week: Megan Thee Stallion/Dua Lipa-Sweetest Pie(-4)  man ir kinda sucks to see that this song dropped out of the top ( this week. It doesn’t even seem like it’s been that long since it’s been here. It’s still one of my favorite songs, and I hope it doesn’t leave too soon.

Debuts

Alright, so this week was interesting for the Hitbound debuts. First up we have a new song from Mimi Webb that dropped a week ago called Goodbye. This is a really beautiful song, and I really hope they end up pushing it, because it’s actually way better than House on fire. The production here while a bit boring is very beautiful, and Mimi sounds amazing here. Lyrically it’s a lot better than House on fire, and it tells a way more sad, but realistic story than that song did. Overall great song, and I really hope it gets pushed, although it probably won’t.

Next up we have a new one off of Post Malones new album Twelve Carot Toorhache, and I heard that overall the album wasn’t that great, so I’m a bit skeptical to listen to the whole thing, but some of the songs that I’ve heard off of it are great. As for this song it’s decent, but nothing special. The writing here is great, and really creatively catchy, but my main issue here is Post Malone himself. He doesn’t really sound that great here, I think he oversings a bit, and it sounds like he may have some affects on his voice. The production is decent here, and it fits the vibe, but it’s very very basic just like in One right now, so it makes it a bit less interesting. Overall this is decent, but I would t really care if it left. Next,

Oh boy! This next one is gonna be fun to talk about. After 3 years we finally have a new song from Panic at the disco. I’ve always been a fan of them ever since I heard I write sins not tragedies, and their music has been great ever since that song came our way back in 2005. I’ve never really disliked a song from them, but this new song they just put out this past week is the first thing from them that I can say I don’t really care for. The song sounds great in the very beginning, up until the point Brendon Urie starts singing. He sounds awful here, and the writing is just so weird and not cool at all. The production is decent, but only in the buildup where Urie isn’t singing, cuz it just doesn’t sound great with his voice over it. Overall let’s hope this doesn’t become a huge hit here, which it probably will anyways. Oh well, next.

Next we have another new song from Alec Benjamin called Devil doesn’t bargain. I thought the last song they picked up from him called Speakers was really solid, but this is honestly way better and it’s mainly because of the production. It sounds way different, and way less empty here than in the previous song, and the melodies work out really well honestly. Alec sounds good, and the lyrics are quite catchy, although a bit weird. Overall I really wouldn’t mind this debuting at all.

Next we have some artist named Amelia Moore with her song called I feel everything, and this is just weird as fuck. First off the intro to this song is so weird, just doesn’t fit the song well at all. Amelia Moore really tried her best here to, but she just couldn’t deliver this song to my satisfaction. She oversings a ton here, and that’s what really brings it down for me. The writing is decent I guess, but it’s also very forgettable. Overall let’s not make this a thing.

Next we have singer Dermot Kennedy with his song called Something to someone. I’ve heard this guys name before, because I’ve heard his song Paradise with EDM group Medusa, and that is a great song. This song is not really as good because it’s a ballad, but it’s still excellent. Dermot Kennedy sounds great here, I like to think of him as a way less annoying version of Lewis Capaldi, cuz he doesn’t shout or oversing too much. The writing is really amazing and it’s super relatable, and while the production is super slow, I like how there’s a drum beat in it. That always makes ballads better and more interesting in my opinion. Overall not bad, can we make this a hit please.

Lastly we have alternative singer Maggie Rodgers on Want Want. This is good, but not what I’d call great. The production here is really cool, and I really like the rock or alternative vibe it goes for. Maggie Rodgers sounds good here, but I feel as if she doesn’t fit in the best here. Personally I think Willow would’ve done a bit better with this style of song, but that’s alright. The lyrics are cool though, and slightly catchy. Overall not bad, I guess I wouldn’t mind this becoming a hit.

We lost Will it ever feel the same, 100SadSongs and No one dies from love. The first 2 songs I really didn’t care for, so I naturally don’t care that they’re gone. As for No one dies from love though, I’m sad that it’s gone, and I really blame the lack of pop radio picking up on it for it leaving(like every other Hitbound song) it really deserved to do something here, and it’ll never be forgotten by me.

Best Hitbound debut: Dermont Kennedy-Something to someone

The abyss

The Walters-I love you so

Diplo/Miguel-Don’t forget my love

Lady Gaga-Hold my hand

JVKE-This is what falling in love feels like

Harry Styles-Music for a sushi Restaurant

The Chainsmokers-I Love U

Duke & Jones/Louis Thureaux-Jiggle Jiggle

Post Malone/Doja Cat-I like you(A happier song)

So we gained 2 more songs to this damn thing this week, and if you can tell this abyss really frustrates me because there’s some great songs in here that really should be on the countdown by now, but they’re not either cuz people just don’t like them, or a lack of radio deals hold them back which is stupid because I clearly know that Hits 1 isn’t restricted from playing stuff without radio deals. I mean let’s be real Falling by Harry Styles hit #1 here without a radio deal, and so did Overpass Graffiti, so what I’m trying to is HITS 1 GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER AND PUT I LOVE U ON THR DAMN COUNTDOWN. Also maybe try putting some of these songs on Hitbound instead of picking up the stupid shit that we have on Hitbound currently. Alright rant out of the way let’s get into some new rap songs.

First up we have a really stupid new rap song called Jiggle Jiggle by UK EDM duo Duke & Jones. Apparently they’ve made this barely 2 minute long freestyle into a song. The rapper here is some dude named Louis Thureaux, and he’s not even a rapper at all, he’s just a journalist who one day came up with the lyrics to this while freestyling it. Honestly this is dumb as fuck., but it’s not as bad as songs such as Handsomer because this dude actually has some appeal to his voice, and I mainly like it cuz his accent just sounds too good over this beat. The lyrics are dumb as all fuck, but a bit catchy, and the production sucks and is basic. It’s not even a rap beat, it’s just basic bland pop production. Overall this isn’t that great, but obviously y’all can see there’s some appeal to it, maybe it’ll grow on me maybe not, I’m not sure.

Other than that we only have one more song off Post Malones new album, and it’s a collab with Doja Cat called I like you(a happier song) man talk about confusing, first we get I love you so, and then I Love U, and now I like you. Alright um that’s a bit odd, but whatever. This is a bop. Post sounds awesome here, and way better than in his Hitbound representation, and Doja Cats verse is really quite fun and catchy. The production is nice and it fits them both well with it being trap, and the writing is also catchy. Overall not bad.

We lost Just a cloud away, and Dancing Feet. Just a cloud away was never gonna debut, and they were just playing it as station filler, and why Dancing Feet was still on the survey I have no clue because it hasn’t been played in like a month. Great song though, I’m sad it’s gone.

Blurbs

Both Supermodel and Cooped Up jumped 4 spots this week. I really like both of these song right now, so I hope they keep the momentum going with them.

Enemy dropped 6 more spots this week. Good, can’t wait until this one leaves cuz it’s been really annoying me now for like the past  5 months.

Why is To the moon jumping again? Who seriously gets the appeal to this crap?

I’m realizing now that both Love me more and Maybe you’re the  problem now aren’t as good as they first seemed. For Sam I’d rather listen to something along the lines of Diamonds or How do you sleep, and with Ava, it’s not that the song itself is bad in any way, but she’s had better songs like Kings and Queens and So am I, of course we can’t forget The Motto either. They’re not bad at all, but I just think I’ve heard better from both artists.

Uh excuse me Hits 1, why is First Class falling another spot, it’s one of most popular songs in America right now, do you not understand that, clearly you don’t, so get it into your heads and start making it jump big.

Why is Me, Myself & I in the top 20? It barely got any AirPlay this week, nor is it really any good. I mean the guys oversings a ton here, and Sounds horrible. Can we get this basic shit outta here soon please and not make it become another top 5 hit for them here.

Skyline and Thousand Miles jumped 6 spots this week. The latter is now my favorite song on the countdown, as I’m really starting to grow into it a lot more now. Nice move on both of these Hits 1.

#14-#12 are all getting way more boring to listen to as they come further along in their runs. 10 things I hate about you is easily more tolerable than the other 2 though.

Bones dropped out of the top 10. Shitttttttttttttt!

On the bright side of things though Sunroof made it into the top 10. Nice, it’d be so cool to see this go top 5 here, but I seriously have my doubts that that’ll ever happen.

She’s all I wanna be dropped 3 spots to #8. That really really sucks. I hope it doesn’t leave too soon.

When youre gone jumped to #7. Can this go top 5 next week? I sure hope so.

2Step is now up at #4 the question is will it become Ed’s next #1 or will you know what block it? This is gonna be a fun countdown to watch over the next few weeks.

Lizzo is now being blocked at #2. That’s awesome, but at the same time really really really sucks because I’m really liking About Damn Time right now. It’s one of my favorite songs, even though it’s being blocked by first class, Skyline, Thousand miles and 3 songs from The Chainsmokers on my chart, now how many does that equal let me do the math real quick..,, 2, 4, 6. Yeah so it’s #7 on my chart at the moment, but it’s an amazing song and It’s honestly so cool to see it come  this far on the countdown. Will it hit #1, probably not, but you never know what could happen.

As it was held onto #1 as expected now for the 4th week in a row. I still find this song to be very vibey, but as you can probably tell it’s also getting ever so slightly annoying, so the sooner we get it out of the #1 spot, the better my opinion will be on this one, please don’t ruin a perfectly good song Hits 1, like you did with Shivers, although If I’m being completely honest that song isn’t all that annoying now. One last blurb real quick though about As it was, If you wanna see a really badass drum cover of this song look up Harry Styles As it was Matt McGuire drum cover on YouTube. Matt McGuire is The Chainsmokers drummer if you don’t know, and he does some pretty amazing covers of not only their songs, but other artists as well, and his cover for As it was is absolutely crazy. I totally recommend you check it out.

We lost Love it when you hate me, Move, Complete mess and Freaky Deaky. Love it when you hate me was great, although it stayed a bit too long, and it will be missed. Move was solid, and I’m a bit disappointed they got rid of it as it was starting to kinda grow on me. Complete mess got annoying as it got overplayed, but I kinda wish we had it back instead of it’s successor being here, and as for Freaky Deaky I’m glad they let it reach the countdown in the first place, and it will be missed.

#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Lost Frequencies/James Arthur-Questions
