Imagine Dragons/JID(4): Week of April, 23rd 2022
Hello everyone, what’s up. Welcome back to another countdown. Ooooooooooof this was, uh well a really interesting week, but it really had more downsides to it I feel than upsides, y’all can probably already tell if you look at the exits. Yeah………………….. we’ll get to that eventually. I really quick just wanted to remind everyone though that I won’t be blogging at all the next 2 weeks, cuz I’m going out of town for a bit, so I’ll be missing the next 2 countdowns. However, I will be posting the last few personal charts that I haven’t posted yet, and when I’m back I plan on doing a catch up post reviewing everything that happens, and then starting Summer madness after that. I’m only waiting on Waffle to submit at this point, so I should know everyone’s songs and such real soon, I can’t wait to do this with y’all, cuz it’s such a fun idea, and let’s have a fun time with it. Anyways let’s get into our countdown now with the very intriguing list of exits I’ll be talking about(why did 2 of these have to leave so soon)

Debuts
Wow! Wow wow wow wow wow, what a way to kick off my month and a half break with an interesting countdown. Let’s kick this thing off with our debuts. First up we have one of new favorite rap songs from Jack Harlow called First class. This has become one of my favorite songs over the past week, but if you’re a really big fan of rap I’d also suggest checking out Southside/Future/Travis Scott’s new song that dropped on Friday called Hold that heat. It’s pretty 🔥, let’s just say that. As for this song though, I still love this, and yes it’s also pretty 🔥, lol. Anyways this songs great, Jack Harlow does a great job here vocally, and his flow is pretty good. What really gets me going about this song though is the sample of Firgie’s Glamorous. The sample fits in perfectly with the production, and it makes it sound really unique, the beat itself is a bit basic for trap, but I think the sample really holds it up well here. I like the writing here also, it’s very catchy, and it’s not the worst I’ve heard from a rap song, so it’s alright. Overall I wanna see this smash here, and I think it will, watch it get blocked for #1 by Harry Styles or someone else, alright I think I’ve said enough. Next.
Next up we have the return of Lauv on All 4 nothing(I’m so in love) and I’m kinda still trying to decide if a like this or not, but right now it’s decent. I really like the writing here about falling and being in love with that special someone in life, but other than that this is nothing too special, and it could’ve been executed a bit better I think. Lauv is not really the best vocalist here, especially in the verses, he just doesn’t sound that great with his fast paced singing. I do kinda like his voice in the chorus though. I kinda like the production on this one also. It’s a bit basic, but the strings and melodies fit in perfectly, and it just fits the vibe of the song together really well, and holds it up pretty well, so overall this isn’t my favorite thing I’ve heard from Lauv, nor is it my favorite song on the countdown right now, but it’s decent. I wouldn’t mind it sticking around.
Next we have Lizzo with her funky new song called About Damn Time. This is heavenly, it’s not the best song on the countdown, but it’s up there, and for her as a whole this is great. I like Rumors slightly better than this still, but that doesn’t mean I hate this, cuz I think it’s great. Lizzo sounds great here, and she really fits the vibe well. The writing is happy and positive, and it gets me in a good mood anytime I hear it. Production wise though is where this just slaps. I absolutely am digging the use of the guitar here, it makes it sound even more funky than I think it did when I reviewed this last week, and the rest of the production just fits in perfectly with it. Overall, I’m hoping this one can do well here unlike Rumors.
Finally we have woah, coming out of the abyss for a massive debut at #18, Imagine dragons with Bones. Uhhhhhhhhhhh! So how did this exactly get voted through? I’m guessing social media right, cuz this barely had any AirPlay this week, and I kinda lost a bit of my motivation to stream it because of that(hence why it dropped big on this weeks edition of my chart) like uh Hits 1, can y’all maybe start playing abyss songs even more if they’re gonna debut, I mean I’m pretty sure as of the last time I got an AirPlay update(or checked it myself) that all our exits this week besides I’m tired had way more AirPlay than this one song alone, so uh yeah I’m guessing we just have people who maybe hated our exits and loved this song even more? I don’t even know, but I do know that this song is great. I like this way better than Enemy. The production here is great, and it’s what I’d expect to hear from Imagine dragons, an alternative-pop beat that’s a bit basic but slaps at the same time. Dan Reynolds fits in perfectly here, and I absolutely love when he screams in the bridge. My only question with this is, why the down-pitched vocals in the pre-chorus? This isn’t a house song, so it really doesn’t fit in here, I don’t mind it cuz it kinda does enhance it a bit, but it’s just a bit weird to hear that in an alternative song. Writing wise this is great though, it’s got that positive message that I like, and it’s super catchy. Overall I’m excited to see how this does here given the fact that Hits 1 seems to be all over Imagine dragons right now. Pretty cool little tune.
Best countdown debut: Jack Harlow-First Class
Biggest jump of the week: Ed Sheeran-2Step(+12) It’s nice to see an Ed Sheeran song get a big jump for once. Also, I think they’re permanently switching to the remix with Lil Baby next week, but I’m not sure. Either way I’m more than alright with this jumping bug here since I’ve been enjoying it lately.
Biggest drop of the week: Alesso/Katy Perry-When I’m gone(-10) I like this song, but I’m totally fine with it dropping because it’s starting to fade on me slightly, I really though this would’ve gotten a longer run here though.

Wow, we got some really interesting debuts this week, kicking it off with my favorite band of the year The Chainsmokers with their new single off So Far So Good called Riptide. I literally did not see this coming, yes I Kidd you not, this was a nice little surprise, because I thought High and iPad were supposed to be the only 2 singles off this album, but alas now we have this, and man this is pretty good, it actually skipped on the verge for my chart this week cuz I heard it early(not gonna say how that happened) but anyways your probably wondering exactly where I stand on this between High and iPad, and well that answer is that I think this is actually better than iPad, but not as good as High. This is in between. Let’s dive in now, first off if you listen you’re automatically gonna hear a vibe switch from pretty much anything else they’ve ever put out, this one is more tropical and it gives off a really nice Summer vibe, and that’s what we need around this time of the year I think, last year around this time we got You, and now we have this, let’s just say that. The reason this is so tropical though is because they produced this song while in Hawaii, and man they did a great job catching that whole island vibe while there, cuz this sounds amazing. The production here is just super chill and cool, and overall really nice. I do see why this might underwhelm some people, but to me I really like it. The drop while a bit weird sounds good, and I think Drew sounds great here, especially in the intro and outro though, because that’s particularly where he hits those high notes really well. Now here’s another surprise you may not know unless you really take a listen, but if you turn up the volume when you hear this, you can very faintly hear Emily Warren in the background on the chorus, and she sounds really quiet here, but good actually, it’s kinda nice to see her make an appearance on this actually. Let’s dig into the writing on this thing though shall we? It’s pretty good, it talks about the joys of life, and how If you were to spend an entire lifetime with a special person, who would it be? Pretty much what drew is saying is that he’d spend his life with his true love, while kinda also talking about the joys of finding that person here, and overall I’m kinda digging it, will it be a hit, probably not(unless there ends up being some really big TikTok appeal behind it) should it be a hit, yeah, I’d be totally down for that. Great choice of debut Hits 1, and right at the perfect time.
Moving on now to a much less great debut, next we have alternative girl group PinkPanthress teaming up with Willow on a new song called Where Are You, and this is really not that great, nor special at all. The production here is not at all what I expected for this band, given their genre is alternative. This sounds very disco-ish, and not in a good way. It’s boring, and really basic sounding disco production with guitar layered on top of it, which in particular is cool, but the whole vibe here just distracts me and catches me off guard. The singers of PinkPathress themselves don’t really sound great either, they just don’t fit in well with the production, nor do they have any standout vocals. Willow contributes really nicely here actually, but my problem with her is that she sounds a bit too quiet when she does sing, overall I’d rather listen to Psychofreak than this song, and I think she does a much better job on that than this, so in conclusion this is not something I’d wanna see sticking around in the long run. Next.
Next we have the ultimate Swedish collab, with Alesso’s follow up to When I’m Gone called Words, and this one has vocals from Swedish pop singer Zara Larson. And I was really excited to listen to this when it was previewed, overall this actually isn’t that bad, but I feel as if even though When I’m Gone is fading out on me, that it’s still a bit better than this. This seems a bit forgettable, and overall I don’t think it’ll be a hit, but it’s a really nice song. Alesso did a great job producing the house beat, and Zara Larson fits in really well here actually. The part I find forgettable though is the writing, it’s just your basic romantic, I love you type pop song, and I really wasn’t expecting that from the title nor the production, but it’s definitely a cool song. I’m still planning on putting this in on the verge for my chart, it might take a few more listens to get there though. Overall not bad, but When I’m gone is way better.
Look what we have here ladies and gentlemen it was the kid who was actually supposed to featured on High, and then backed out at the last minute, and he’s got a new song the same day The Chainsmokers dropped Riptide. Coincidence? I’m not so sure, but what I do know is that The Kid Laroi finally released his next single called Thousand Miles the other day. I’ve seen mixed reviews on this song, so I was so excited to hear it, and see what it was all about, so where do I stand on this? I don’t think this is as good as any of his other songs, but I still think it’s a great song. The trap beat sounds great, and I love the guitar strums in the intro, so I love the production here. The writing is really great to, it talks about his past relationships, and how he learned from them, and how both his mistakes and other peoples mistakes helped him learn a lot, but it also talks about change, and while it’s nothing even close compared to Stay or High lyric wise, I still think it holds up well. Laroi’s vocals are mostly good here to, although I feel as if he over sings just a bit in the chorus. Overall, this isn’t as good as his other songs, but I really like it, and I wouldn’t mind it becoming a hit.
Finally, we have another song from Latto, and this one features rappers Lil Wayne and Childish Gambino, and it’s called Sunshine. This is pretty good, but it’s not nearly as good as Big energy is. Latto sounds pretty good here, and I really like her flows. Lil Wayne and Childish Gambino sound great on their guest verses to, and I really like the writing. The production is great to, and it fits all 3 of these guys really well, but my only issue with the song itself is that it’s a bit forgettable, I’m sure it’ll grow on me if this gets pushed more, and I think it will, but right now it’s just solid.
As for the Hitbound exits, we lost In my head, Hot crush lover and Fair. It sucks to see In my head go because it looked like they were getting ready to push it, and also because they like 24KGoldn, so it kinda makes no sense to pull a song from an artists who you like, especially if he’s a radio host for you(if anyone here doesn’t know 24Kgoldn has his own show on Hits 1 called The Golden Hour) anyways, it kinda sucks to see it go that fast but oh well I guess, I actually was kinda starting to grow into Hot crush lover also after it’s week as countdown extra, but I guess it won’t be a hit now, as for Fair I don’t really care that it’s gone, as it was just another boring R&B song.

Doja Cat-Get into it(Yuh)
Swedish house mafia/Connie Constance-Heaven takes you home
So we gained 2 new songs to the abyss this week. First off is a song that really just should’ve re-entered Hitbound. It’s called Get into it(Yuh) and it’s the next single off Doja’s album Planet Her. If you maybe remember I reviewed this song a while back right when I first started blogging here, and I thought it was just decent, but since then it’s become popular through not only TikTok, but also a Taco Bell commercial feature, and the latter is the reason I started to seek this one out more recently because it just for some reason fit the whole vibe of the commercial. After re-listening to this a bunch of times, I can now kinda see the appeal to it. Is it the best song ever? Absolutely not, but it’s such a fun song that I can’t help but to not hate this. First off I’m gonna address the writing here. Ok I don’t know what In the actual fuck Doja says here at all, and it’s the most non-sensical thing I’ve ever heard, but it’s just too damn catchy not to like. Doja, while sounding a bit less R&B-ish and more rapper-ish here sounds great, and her flow is pretty good. The production here just slaps also, it’s got great melodies throughout and it’s well produced and great sounding. Overall I feel as if I shouldn’t like this because it’s so dumb, but this just slaps. Let’s make this succeed more than Need to know Hits 1.
We also gained some song called Heaven takes you home off of Swedish house mafia’s new album Paradise Again, and this one isn’t really that great or special. The production is similar to Moth to a flame’s production, which is cool, but it just doesn’t really work out that well here because whoever this Connie Constance person is sounds really bad with it, and she has a really weird sounding voice. This is also super forgettable, so I’m not really gonna go any further with it, I just remember it not being that great.
Blurbs
Sunroof moved 3 spots, and I don’t think I have to ask myself any longer as to where they got this from, cuz it’s been super obvious the whole time it’s been here. TikTok, yeah this is a pretty popular song on TikTok apparently and I can see why it has the appeal. It’s actually really great, and I’ve been enjoying it, so naturally I don’t mind it jumping. How long can this last for though, we’ll just have to hang on to find out.
On the other hand To the moon didn’t need to jump back up 3 spots. This is just an unappealing and boring song to listen to, I don’t understand why this is so popular right now? I hope it doesn’t go too far here, or I’ll probably be mad.
Weatherman got a decent sized drop. I’m kinda starting to like this one a bit less now, I mean it’s enjoyable don’t get me wrong, but for a one to watch it’s been extremely overplayed and it’s been here way too long, can we get a new one to watch please?
As it was only jumped 3 spots which surprises me a lot given that fact that it went up a lot in AirPlay this week. I was really enjoying it until I found out it blocked First Class for #1 on the hot 100 earlier. Are you serious Billboard? Alright I think I’ve decided I’m done with Harry. It ashames me to cuz I really wanted to like it, but the more I hear it, the more I realize how generic and stupid sounding it is. Can’t wait until it hits #1 here, I’d rather hear our current #1 than this. I hope radio realizes that it should fall quick to, but I just don’t see that happening. Oh boy! I’m in for a long ride with this one.
Why did Fingers crossed drop, I thought it was gonna become a bigger hit, I guess not though. Oh well, the top 10 run was fun while it lasted.
Overpass Graffiti also got a 7 spot drop. I was totally expecting this because it’s now off the survey, and because it’s old in general. Oldest song on the countdown now in fact. This should be gone soon.
When You’re Gone got a huge jump, once again though like Bones this barely had any AirPlay, and it dropped pretty big on the AirPlay chart, so I’m a bit confused, but if we can make this another #1 for Shawn that would be great. You may also notice that this is not in people this week, yep another song re-grew on me, overtaking this.
Bam Bam jumped another 5 spots, amazing, isn’t this funny how Shawn and Camilla ended up back to back on this countdown, cuz I find that hilarious.
Big energy also bounced back a bit, which is nice to see cuz I’ve really grown back into it also.
Tate McRae is back in the top 10 with She’s all I wanna be, which is awesome, now if it would stay there that would be even more awesome.
Dancing Feet is also in the top 10 despite being dropped from top 40 on mediabase, wow that’s amazing. Can this be a top 5 hit for Kygo? Probably not, but you never know with Hits 1.
Yes The Motto is now my favorite song.
Complete mess is in the top 5? Well at least it still has radio momentum for when it hits #1 here. I’d rather not have that happen though cuz I’m getting sick of this one very fast.
Light switch is back to #2, and was taken off the survey, wow that’s a one and done #1 right there.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Enemy is #1 again, it’s cool to see a non-consecutive #1 here, but come on they could’ve picked a better song than this, How long can this stay up here, I don’t know I’m gonna guess an infinite amount of weeks at this point since it’s pretty much about to be the biggest song in the country probably within the next week or 2.
Also…………………………….
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! We lost High, are you fucking kidding me, did I say it wasn’t gonna happen this week though, I mean no, I was kinda right, at least I get to write this before I go on vacation, cuz that would’ve been the worst feeling to have what’s probably gonna be my #1 song of the year leave right when I go on vacation next week, but at least it’s over with. I’m not gonna lie though, I really thought it was gonna stay maybe for 1 more week cuz it did go up in AirPlay again this week, but I guess the countdown caught me off guard with that one. Oh well it’ll be missed(probably by only me) ya know I really do hope they push Riptide though, it’d be fun to see that one have success a bit more so than High ever did. Goodbye great song, you will truly be missed by me. And now that I’ve gotten that out of the way, now for the third time today, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! What the fuck, we lost Chosen to, I mean at least it’s in the abyss, but you’ve got to be kidding me, that was treated so unfairly, I hope it returns, but I don’t have that much hope that it will, which sucks cuz I’m really enjoying it right now, oh well, we’ll see what happens with it though. We also lost I’m tired and One right now. One right now was great up until maybe about 3 months ago when it became super overplayed, so I’m kinda glad it’s gone and it had a great run here, so I’m okay with that, and I’m tired, I mean what was the point in promoting it even? I barely heard it when it was here, and I had no desire to anyways cuz it sucks, so good riddance to that.
#1 recommendations for Hits 1; Martin Garrix/Justin Mylo/DeWain Whitmore-Find You, Southside/Future/Travis Scott-Hold that heat & David Guetta/Becky Hill/Ella Henderson-Crazy what love can do
Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
