Imagine dragons/JID(2): Week of April, 2nd 2022
Hello everyone, what’s up, I hope y’all have had a fantastic week. This weekend countdown was well……………… not the best I’d say, we lost some really great songs this week and gained some ones that I’d say aren’t that great, and there were also a lot of unnecessary drops also, and of course the #1 song didn’t make it any better, so overall not the best countdown I’ve reviewed, but hey I guess you just have to get those every once in a while, Hitbound got well…………… way worse also cuz of our debuts. It’s alright though. I wanna make a few announcements before we get into it all though. First If y’all haven’t seen the page on this blog for 2022 Blogger Summer madness, I’d really consider checking it out now to sign up if y’all want to, cuz we have way more people than I expected that have already signed up(11) and that doesn’t include myself, so really we have 12. That makes for a really large bracket. I’ll have to figure out exactly how we’re gonna do it with the amount of songs we have, and I’ll tell y’all later, but we’ll definitely be able to figure it out before the submission due date(which is still a month out from now) anyways I just wanted to let y’all know and thank you guys for submitting really great songs. I haven’t heard of all of them, but I’m expecting to like most of them, so yeah thank y’all and hey let’s have fun with that. My second announcement is that I’m officially announcing that I’ll be gone April 30th-May 10th, and so I won’t be blogging during that time including the two countdowns for those weekends and my personal chart. I’m thinking what I’ll do with my personal that week is I’ll make a chart for the 30th, and everything will just hold on for the next week, and then I’ll post it when I get back. I have more than enough time to figure that all out though, but I just wanted to let everyone know. Anyways let’s waste no time now, here are our exits for this week(2 of them are not really sitting well with me).

Debuts
Let’s start out with an interesting one, and it’s not even at #30, which is kinda surprising to me but ok I guess, it’s BoyWithUke and Blackbear on IDGAF. I didn’t really like BoyWithUkes first song called Toxic that dropped out of Hitbound back in November, but I’m kinda digging this one, I’m not sure I’d call it great yet, but it’s definitely getting there. BoyWithUke while having a bit of a monotone voice sounds great here and Blackbear sounds really awesome in his verse, and they have surprisingly good chemistry together in the second chorus. The writing here is kinda fun not gonna lie, I can’t get the damn chorus out of my head, it’s so catchy and the verses are also very well written and decently catchy. Production wise it’s a very simple alternative song, but it sounds great so I’m not minding ir at all. Overall cool debut.
Next we have more of Ed Sheeran with an unreleased song off his album Equals(=) called 2Step. This is easily the best thing I think I’ve heard from him in the past few years and definitely the best off the album, I hope this hits #1, but it’ll probably get all the way up on the countdown just to be blocked by a new Hitbound song that I’ll talk about later, but for now let’s get into this. I really like the guitar riffs here, and when they’re mixed with the trap production, it just makes for an interesting, fun and honestly kinda chilled out listen. Ed sounds great here, way better than he did in Overpass Graffiti, and I like how he raps because he shows us just how talented he is with that and his flow is insanely great. The writing here is great to, as I kinda felt like it’s relatable, overall great song and I really hope it does well here.
Ok, so some of y’all are probably confused right now cuz I had this next song in blue last week and now it’s in red, well my opinion has changed on it, and I think I need to explain why. This next one coming in at #26 is called To the moon by rapper Jnr(pronounced Junior) Choi and Sam Tompkins. I’m not gonna get into the whole backstory of this thing, as I did that last week, but after hearing this for what felt like a million times this past week, I can now say that I don’t like it, here’s why, so Jnr Choi has a interesting voice. He reminds me of Pop Smoke a lot, and I like that cuz I’m now a bit of a Pop Smoke fan, but this song is way too stupid to like, I mean this dude is buried in very heavy autotune here, and I didn’t even realize until I blasted this on the car speakers, the autotune just makes him sound a lot worse than he should, and it somewhat covers up what he’s saying I feel like. Sam Tompkins sample is alright I guess, but it’s super choppy sounding and the rest of the production is just too electronic and not rap-like production. Writing wise it’s so dumb that I can’t even tell what he’s saying either, so yeah, not good, ok next.
Next we have the next single off The Weeknd’s album Dawn FM called Out of tiime. First off let me just say that I really should’ve reviewed this last week since it was in the abyss, but it’s so damn forgettable that I forgot it was even there, so sorry about that. I mean there’s nothing really special about this one. I personally would’ve preferred either I heard you’re married, Less than zero, best friends or Gasoline over this. The vibe and production is overly romantic and super slow, so it’s not really something I’d call radio-worthy. The Weeknd himself sounds amazing though and that’s why I don’t hate this, he has too good of a voice here for me to hate. Lyrically it’s not even that catchy either, so yeah. Ok.
Best countdown debut: Ed Sheeran-2Step
Biggest jump of the week: Latto-Big energy(+11) Yay! I’m so happy that this jumped, even if I don’t consider it to be great. This definitely deserved this big jump though because it’s actually getting really big right now on pop radio, and I’ve been hearing it a lot this week both from Hits 1 and my local pop station, so it’s good to see Hits 1 finally making this a thing. Let’s hope it stays that way now.
Biggest drop of the week: GAYLE-abcdefu(-11) Really, this didn’t need to drop that much. I know it’s off the survey, but come on Hits 1, we could’ve kept this around for a bit longer, but oh well. At least it had a great run here.

Debuts
Alright I was not happy with our debuts this week besides one, so I think I’ll go over the great one first and then I’ll talk/rant about the other 2 after.
Our only great debut this week was from Shawn Mendes. I love Mendes, so of course y’all probably saw the green or purple highlight coming. The last song we got from Shawn was It’ll be Okay, which was a few months ago. I really liked that song overall, but there’s something about this new release that I actually like even more, and that would be that this is for one very upbeat, and second it’s way more memorable than it’ll be okay, or even Summer of love. This ones called When You’re gone and it’s another breakup song following Shawns breakup with Camilla Cabello. Now I’m just gonna be clear here, I think I find Bam Bam a bit better than this, but that doesn’t mean this is bad by any means, in fact I’d say this is his most radio ready single since Monster came out with Justin Beiber in November 2020. Let’s dive in now, this isn’t the best thing Shawns produced, but I’m really liking it actually The highlight here is the production, it’s nice and upbeat, and it reminds me a lot of She’s all I wanna be, it’s not completely pop/punkish, but it sounds very similar to that songs production and it’s very nice sounding, and I absolutely love the use of guitar here, and the buildup is pretty nice. Shawn sounds really great with this production and he fits in fine, now one thing I found weird, is that he kinda talk sings in the first chorus and that kinda feels out of place, but I feel like it’s a great starter for what’s to come, cuz Shawns voice gets better and better as the songs moves along, and the last chorus in particular is where he really shines, I kinda feel as if it’s the same situation we have with High when referring to the talk-singing though, just like Drew kinda Talk sings in the beginning of High, Shawn does the same here in that first chorus, but like I said it all adds up to this really great vocal performance later on in the song, which I’m very cool with. The writing here is really great to, it’s about Shawns vulnerability after the breakup, and he honestly did a great job writing it cuz it’s catchy and very relatable, and I can see myself now in his shoes after having listened to this song, with how he had to deal with the breakup, so I feel like I can relate to him in a way, cuz I’ve been through that feeling before. Overall really great song. I’m happy it’s here, although just like 2Step it’ll probably be blocked for #1, and we’ll get to that song in a few.
Alright so I’m literally going to review the worst entrant of these 2 first because the last one is pretty big, and this one isn’t. This is another one from Indie/pop band Surfaces called I can’t help but feel. I really like Sunday Best and Wave of you, and I even liked Sheesh! for the very short time it was here, but what the fuck happened here? This is by far the worst thing I’ve heard from them. First off it’s very forgettable, but from what I can actually remember the guy didn’t sound good here, he has a really high-pitched voice here, which is really annoying. I can’t exactly remember what the production sounded like, but I do know that it had that really weird indie vibe that I just don’t like at all. The writing is quite positive, but that’s the only upside to this, but overall this sucks and is forgettable, we don’t need to make it a hit.
and now another moment y’all have been waiting for.
Alright so as if that last debut wasn’t horrible enough, we got more of just wait for it……………………………… HARRY FUCKING STYLES on Hits 1. I didn’t need the return of him to be anytime soon, but alas it just had to happen. Most people here in the community hate Harry, and well guess what y’all can now add me to the anti-Harry club because I don’t find him that great either. Everyone who’s seen my social media knows that I don’t like Harry, and it’s for the exact same reasons that no one else here likes him either. First Hits 1 stans the crap out of his music and has to make every single fucking song of his #1. Secondly I just don’t like how people treat him either, his fans act like he’s the king of the world, which he’s not, and it’s very very very weird that people do that. Just cuz I stan The Chainsmokers or Shawn Mendes doesn’t mean I think they’re the kings of the world, and that’s literally what Harry Styles fans do, and I see them all the time in Hits 1s Instagram comments, it just really annoys me, and my final reason for not liking Harry is that he makes the most generic, overplayed and shitty sounding music, and to me there’s just been no point in liking any of it since his 2020 album Fine Line. Adore You sucks, and shouldn’t have spent 10 weeks at #1 here, and looking back at it’s time at #1 it really sucks cuz It was right when the pandemic started to shut down the world, and literally I was going through some shit in my life, imagine finding out that you literally weren’t going back to finish your senior year in high school and that you were going to do it online and not have your friends around, then on top of that I didn’t get to see The Chainsmokers in concert, and then everything just got cancelled and shut down for everyone, and while this was all happening this damn song was hitting #1 on the countdown non-stop. It literally started to get so boring to come over to Belugas or Waffles blogs and read there rants on why this shouldn’t be #1 anymore, it just got so old so fast(and I don’t blame them of anyone in the community for hating this guys music) and then when Watermelon sugar and falling started to become hits I just couldn’t take it anymore. I was done, now that’s not to say that Harry’s music fucked up my life at the time that Adore you hit #1 cuz it didn’t, that was just the pandemic, but that song hit #1 at the worst time ever, and I really wish it hadn’t cuz it’s generic overplayed shit. Now let’s finally get into this new Harry song called As it was, and of course I wasn’t excited to hear this. The production here sounds kinda like the A-Ha hit Take on me, and it sounds pretty good actually and a bit fun, but the problem is that Harry for one doesn’t fit in here, and secondly he doesn’t sound good at all. His voice is layered a bunch here, and I can really tell when I turn it up. Harry just doesn’t sound great either, he’s trying to sing in this really high voice and he sounds like shit to be honest, his voice really hasn’t matured well since the 1D days and I can really tell here. Now the writing is decently catchy, but it’s just not enough to save the song from being horrible, oh and the bridge is just so weird to. Overall, this is not a good sign for Hits 1 and not a good sign for Harry Styles either in my opinion.
We lost Luv Starved and Stupid song from Hitbound. Both of them were great songs and it’s actually sad to see them go, but let’s be honest they were never gonna debut anyways, so it is what it is.

I’m tired held, I would’ve preferred if this left compared to what actually left. This song can just fuck off any day now.
That’s what I want dropped to #29. It’ll probably be gone next week. I’m happy it survived this week though, and hey I actually did hear it a few times. Yay for better rotation.
Why did Bam Bam drop? This should be in the top 20 by now. You also probably noticed it’s no longer my favorite countdown song and we’ll get to that whole dilemma in a few.
Freaky Deaky and House on fire jumped, which is nice to see cuz I’m really starting to like both.
Weatherman dropped, I know I’m probably the only one in this community who likes this song, but oof. It wasn’t supposed to last long though I guess.
Why did Dancing Feet drop? That’s so stupid. This one needs to make a comeback, it’s an awesome song.
How did Closer jump, this ones starting to become a bit forgetful because of low AirPlay, but ok I guess If it’s jumping I’m cool with it.
I would’ve been alright if Boyfriend had jumped, but alright Hits 1 just keep the drops coming I guess.
Woman is really gaining in AirPlay yet only moving one spot, how stupid is that. My answer, very stupid and illogical, even if it is getting slightly annoying to listen to.
Now back to more big drops and our next one is actually no surprise, it’s High. Did I expect this, yes I did. Did I want it to happen, no, whatever though, I guess this will be a Treys chart hit only.
Sweetest Pie got a nice big jump, which is awesome let’s get this into the top 10.
She’s all I wanna be is in the top 10. Let’s gooooooooooo! Although I will admit that Chaotic is much better.
Overpass Graffiti is now out of the top 5, I saw that coming from a mile away not gonna lie, this ones kinda getting old now to.
Love it when you hate me is now in the top 5, nice.
The motto is now my favorite countdown song, we’ll get to why in just a minute, although I’m pretty sure most people who know me can guess why.
Enemeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee held onto #1 again, the sooner we can get this out of here the better cuz I’m gonna need at least one good song to hit #1 before Harry dominates this damn countdown, so I’m hoping this’ll drop next week, and plus I just don’t like this one sooooooo.
We lost Oh my God, WYD? Now, Peru and iPad. Oh my God was getting really old, so I don’t mind that it’s gone, WYD? Now made no sense returning, so I could care less that it’s gone, but what really pisses me off is the other 2. Peru stayed at #30 for 3 weeks then jumped 3 spots and left, that’s a really short and really stupid run, and it happened all while it was growing on me, so I’m very disappointed by that, now if that can’t be bad enough let’s talk about iPad being yeeted off the chart after a week, so the reason that The Motto is now my favorite countdown song was because I highlight those based off my current favorite song on my personal chart, and before I even have time to post that chart let’s just say what was #1? It was iPad, and my #2 was We don’t talk about Bruno(does that surprise anyone) so since both those songs are in the abyss that makes #3 eligible for my purple highlight, which is The Motto, so yeah each week the purple highlight will basically be the highest song on my chart, which is right now The Motto for the Weekend Countdown. This brings me to my conclusion, I’m pissed off tbat iPad left, but I should’ve probably seen it coming from a mile away given the fact that it’s not supposed to be big anywhere else, and since people just like it better when The Chainsmokers collab with other artists, I’ll admit even I like that better than their solo hits, but Hjgh and iPad are actually they’re best solo hits in my opinion, so yeah, I’m not too happy, but oh well at least it’s in the abyss and not gone for good, although It probably will be pretty soon. My mind is completely blow away as to how people vote I’m tired to stay in the countdown instead of IPad though, I mean come on people, that song needed to leave and go into the abyss, not IPad, whatever though, it is what it is.
#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Tate McRae-Chaotic
Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
Remember one year ago when Treat People With Kindness got blocked? That was an absolute miracle.
ReplyDeleteYes, I really enjoyed those few weeks. TPWK was a solid song, but if it had gone to #1 I still would’ve been pissed.
DeleteHonestly, fair. What was more surprising for me, though, was when Levitating knocked Golden off of #1. Definitely didn't see that one coming.
DeleteActually, it was Drivers License that dethroned Golden, and Levitating first hit #1 four weeks prior, remember?.
