Charlie Puth(1): Week of April, 16th, 2022

Hello everyone what’s up. Happy early Easter, I hope y’all have a great one if you celebrate, and I sure hope y’all are enjoying the weekend as much as I am. This weeks countdown was very solid. One quick thing though before we get into it, I know I’m a bit behind in personal chart posts. There might be one spoiler here for last weeks chart, so keep your eyes peeled for that, but I just wanted to say sorry that last weeks isn’t out yet. I’ve been really busy this week with schoolwork since it’s final exam time, and also since I’m kinda caught up in other personal obligations during the week, but once school ends this week I’ll have a whole week before I go out of town for 10 days, so if I don’t get those posts out this week, then they’ll be out sometime next week, although I’m hoping I can find some time between studying and finishing up to post those. Anyways let’s waste no time and get into it. Shall we? Here are the exits for this week.

Debuts

Alright we got some fresh new debuts that I haven’t talked about in a while, and quite honestly I’m surprised they’re both here. Kicking off with rappers Blxst, Ty Dolla $ign and Tyga coming in at #30 on Chosen. This song has been around for months, and quite frankly I’m not sure why Hits 1 didn’t add it when other stations started to, but this is the right time to add it I guess anyways since it still has a pretty decent amount of traction. This actually did drop out of Hitbound back in February, then made its way back to the abyss, and look where we are now. Alright, so I’ve really grown into this over the past few weeks. I love the production, it sounds a bit different then your usual trap beat, but it still has a great sound and a good amount of unique elements to it. It sounds more party-ish than other trap songs, and it’s super fun with the melodies, those were defiantly put to good use here. Blxst sounds awesome, I really like his voice, and he especially does a great job in the chorus. Ty dolla $ign sounds great here to, and his verse is easily the most catchy out of all 3. Tyga is somewhat different though, but in a great way. His verse is decently catchy, but I can’t help but to love the lyrics in his verse, I mean yeah they’re sexual, it’s Tyga so I mean I can’t expect it not to be sexual, but I can’t help but laugh anytime I listen to some of these lyrics in his verse, and that’s more so when I stream this of course(because ya know the radio edit makes it a bit less fun on Hits 1) in short though Tyga slaps here. I’m  quite surprised to say that my local radio station actually edited his verse out of the song completely. Now that’s surprising given the fact that you’d expect Hits 1 out of all stations to do that, but nope, and see this is just one reason why I love Hits 1 now better than any other station. Nice job on not editing Tyga out. As for my local station 95.1 WAPE Jacksonville, really, screw you guys. I think I’ll stick with Hits 1 on this one. Anyways, great song. I hope it does well here. Although it probably won’t.

Alright our other debut is from some dude named Nicky Youre and featured another dude named Dazy(pronounced Daisy) it’s called Sunroof, and man I didn’t expect them to actually push this, but alas they actually are, and I actually quite like this, so I’m glad it’s here. Nicky Youre sounds pretty good here vocally, and he’s got a somewhat unique voice, which I like. Now I’m thinking Dazy is someone who produced this track because I can’t really find any info on him, so I’m just assuming that, but whoever he is, he did a really great job producing this. It gives off a nice spring vibe that I like, and it fits in with the vocals and lyrics really well. Lyrically it’s very catchy and springy also. Overall I like this, and I definitely hope it can stick around for the end of spring, although it probably won’t.

Biggest jump of the week: 5 Seconds of Summer-Complete mess(+9) I didn’t really want this to jump that much, but ok I guess. This is pretty solid, but I don’t think it needs to be a top 5 hit.

Biggest drop of the week: Doja Cat-Woman(-7) This really should be doing better here, and it got double whammied by being taken off the survey this week. Really? This is the biggest song in the country right now. I will say though, that it’s being a bit overplayed. It’s still a good song though, and I’d hate to see it go this fast.

Debuts

Alright we’ve got some good ones this week, kicking off with new music from Alec Benjamin. I’ve maybe only talked about 1 song of his on this blog before, but I’m a pretty big fan of his, and I think he’s a great song writer personally. This is a new song off his new album called (Un)Contemporary and the songs called Speakers. I think after hearing this, it has a really big potential to grow on me even more, especially if they decide to push it,  but for right now it’s pretty solid. Alec sounds really good here, and I really like the writing. He wrote some really great lyrics for this song, and it just shows here. The reason this is in blue though is because the production feels a bit more acoustic and empty and forgettable than in some of his other songs, but I think I’ll get used to it once I start listening to it more. Overall really solid though, I wouldn’t mind seeing it become a hit here.

Next we have more Camilla Cabello, and this is her new single with Willow called Physchofreak, coming off her new album Fanillia. I didn’t really like this at first listen when it was released last week, but it’s really grown on me itself. It’s not nearly as good as Bam Bam is though. This is super unique for Camilla though, she sounds pretty good here, and I actually really like Willows contribution here, she fits in really well with the production. Speaking of that, the production here feels a bit basic, but very unique, and it fits in really well with everything. This is also super catchy. Overall great debut. I’m hoping this one can do something here.

Next we have the return of Lizzo on the lead single off her upcoming album called About Damn Time. Man this is a bop like all the rest of her songs are. The production is amazing here, and I absolutely love Lizzo’s soulful voice here, this feels like something Missy Elliot would sing, or if we were talking about male singers, I would’ve thought Micheal Jackson would’ve fit on this if it was made in the 80s actually. The writing here is super catchy to, just like in the rest of her songs. Let’s make this a hit, unlike what happened with Rumors.

Next we have more Charlie Puth on his new song called That’s hilarious, and I really wasn’t feeling this one when it first came out last Friday, but after re-listening and hearing it on Hitbound, I get the appeal. This isn't nearly as good as Light Switch Is, but it’s very unique and cool in its own way. I love the writing here, it brings a very interesting story to the table, and Charlie sounds great here. I was really skeptical about the production because it’s trap, and he usually wouldn’t fit in on trap, but this is pretty good sounding actually, it’s more pop-trap and less rap-trap, which is good, hell if The Chainsmokers can make a good trap song, then so can Charlie Puth. Pretty solid song, I’d love to see what it does here.

Next we’ve got Lauren Spencer-Smith on her follow up to Fingers Crossed called Flowers. Wow! This is amazing, it’s not as good as Fingers Crossed because it is a bit slower, and it doesn’t have all the acoustic elements to it, but it sounds great nonetheless. Production like I just said is great, and Lauren sounds amazing. I really like the writing here though, it’s almost as equally as catchy as Fingers Crossed, and it just has that great heartbreak vibe.

G-L-AM-O-R-O-U-S, lastly we’ve got one of my favorite new rap songs from Jack Harlow called First Class, and if you can’t tell already or haven’t heard it yet, it samples firgies 2006 smash hit Glamorous. The sample sounds amazing here, and the beat doesn’t bury it too much, which is great. The beat here sounds great overall, and it fits in super well. Jack Harlow brings his amazing flow here as always, and I love how catchy these lyrics are. I’m not seeming to find a whole lot of good rap right now, but I think I just found my new favorite rap song in this song. Amazing.

As for the Hitbound exits, we lost Let you(for the second time), Sunburn and Make up sex. It would’ve been cool to see Let you and Make up sex debut, but I guess that’s not gonna happen now. As for Sunburn, I never really cared about it, and it was forgettable anyways, so I’m fine with it leaving.

Tom Grennan-Remind me

Ashe-Another mans jeans

Why the hell is Another mans jeans back, that didn’t deserve the 1 spin it got this week.

Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. This abyss is so annoying to deal with. We lost We don’t talk about Bruno and iPad. Are you fucking kidding me. That didn’t need to happen. Those two songs were both treated so unfairly here. Bruno also dropped a bit on my chart this week. Solely because it had very little AirPlay. I don’t think I have words to even say about this song, it will dearly be missed. As for iPad, fuck fuck fucking fuck. I know I haven’t posted it yet, but this was #1 again on my chart for a second week last week(sorry I haven’t posted that yet) it’s not #1 this week, but seriously I mean they could’ve literally just taken High out this week and replaced it with this since High was just purged from the top 40 on Mediabase, I mean come on they’ve been trying to make solo Chainsmokers songs hits for a few years. And the only one that’s somewhat succeeded was High. That’s so stupid, it’s unreleased, that doesn’t  mean you can’t push it Hits 1. That’s so stupid. Let’s just hope that they pick up something else from So far so good when it drops in a month. I saw the preview for one of the songs the other day called I love U and it sounds really good actually, let’s hope they can pick up something like that, and stuck with it. Do I even need to bring up how many #1 songs these guys have had here, Come on Hits 1 we all know y’all stan then just as much as I do, so let’s get them a solo #1 hit please.

I’ve decided I’m going to permanently cut the Hitbound songs that make sense list, and the what needs to debut to make sense list because 1 it takes too much space here, and 2 because Hits 1 has most of the songs that make sense being on radio right now. Also I’d be taking a lot of songs from the bottom 10 of the top 50, and they just aren’t songs that become popular a lot of the times. I also barely listen to any of them, so yeah me not having an opinion on each song kinda takes away that lists purpose, but the list was fun while it lasted though.

Blurbs

We’re 3 weeks into To the moons run. And it’s already getting overplayed here. Oh boy, this is gonna get really annoying really fast. Hey at least it dropped though.

I’m tired jumped 4 spots…………… Yawns……………. I could really care less. lol.

Harry Styles dropped 4 spots off his debut last week. Wow? Take L Harry. I’m still kinda trying to decide if this is growing on me or not, I want to like it, but it’s so weird. I don’t know about this one.

Out of time and House on fire jumped 7 spots each this week. I’m happy for the latter, the former I can deal with, although it’s not the best thing that he’s ever produced. I will say though after hearing this song a bunch that he does sound exactly like Micheal Jackson in this song. I wouldn’t really mind it sticking around actually, it’s just a bit slow is all.

2Step also got a boost. Nice. I’m currently enjoying this one.

Bam Bam got a bit of a boost this week, let’s goooooooooooooo? I’m really loving this song right now. Can this be a top 10 hit? We’ll just have to hang on to find out.

And now let’s focus on a song that really should’ve Been a hit here, but won’t be because it was taken off the survey, and because radio fucked this one over in general, High dropped 3 spots. I’m not sure if I should start my rant now, or when this leaves, but I’d just like to say I kinda hope it leaves next week cuz it’ll suck to find out if it leaves in 2 weeks when I leave for vacation. It’s gonna be the worst feeling for me no matter what but, I mean at least it had somewhat of a decent run here. I’m just holding breath cuz even though this dropped on my personal chart, I’m still in love with it. I don’t even know how.

Why did She’s all I wanna be drop? Come on my celeb crush should get another top 5 hit here, yeah I kinda have the hots for Tate McRae.

Is one right now ever gonna leave?

Boyfriend and Dancing Feet jumped 6 spots. I don’t really mind the latter jumping, and Boyfriend is actually starting to gain on me to. I’d say this might be in blue next week.

Fingers crossed is in the top 10 finally.

I guess we won’t be making Em Beihold a thing since she dropped 2 spots to #4, oh well.

Love it when you hate me is now at #3. I wouldn’t really mind this going to #1, although that’s probably not gonna happen.

We have a new #1 from Charlie Puth. Let’s goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! I still love this, and I’m so happy that it’s #1. Let’s hope for many more weeks to come. Although we all know that either 5SOS or Harry will probably take over soon.

We lost Closer, and Sacrifice this week. Closer got kinda annoying, so I don’t really care that it’s gone and Sacrifice really should’ve had a longer run here, oh well at least it didn’t completely flop though.  I did hit the top 5, but it will be missed.

#1 recommendations for Hits 1: Tate McRae-Chaotic & David Guetta/Becky Hill/Ella Henderson-Crazy what love can do

Thank y’all for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
