Imagine Dragons/JID(3): Week of April, 9th, 2022
Hello everyone, what’s up, I hope y’all have had a great week, and are having a great weekend, This weeks countdown was very solid, and it wasn’t bad compared to last weeks. Hitbound got very very iffy though because we had some interesting but also very forgettable debuts. Anyways, just an update on Summer Madness, I’m still waiting on 1 person to submit songs, and then I’ll be creating the bracket for the tournament, although I’m already starting to look at the songs and trying to figure out how it will all work. I think it’ll be easy though, I’ll just have to adjust the number of songs in the bracket for the number of participants, so it should be fine. Anyways let’s waste no time, here are the exits for this week,

Debuts
Alright this is an interesting week for debuts, and I went over both of these last week, so I’ll try and make this as short as possible. First we have my new favorite countdown song from Shawn Mendes called When You’re Gone. This ones pretty great not gonna lie. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing, but for the context of this countdown and radio, it is. The production sounds awesome here, and I really like the vibe that this is going for. It really reminds me a lot of She’s all I wanna be, but with less pop/punk elements. Everything just fits into place so perfectly, and I absolutely love the guitar, and how it mixes in well here. Shawn sounds great here, he gets better as the song progresses though, I feel as if he kinda talk sings in the first chorus, but that doesn’t really bother me much because it sets the song up for his vocal performance that comes later on in the song, which is amazing. I really like how he wrote this song also about his breakup with Camilla Cabello, and how he felt a bit venerable afterward. I can kinda relate to that to since I’ve been in that situation. Anyways great song, and I’m really hoping it does well here.
Ladies and gentlemen our second debut is probably gonna be the next #1 song here. It’s from none other than Harry Styles or as Hits 1, and all his fans like to call him King Harry, even though he’s not really the king of the world. This is the first single off his third album Harry’s House called As it was, and I’m not really liking it right now, but at the same time I’m thinking I’ll somehow get into it by the time it hits #1 here(cuz we all know that’s probably gonna happen) I think the production here is super cool, although it’s very generic, and the writing is a bit catchy, but there are some really weird lines such as,” Your daddy lives by himself.” and,” Harry your no good alone.” Yeah I kinda thought those were weird, but whatever I guess. What really brings this down for me though is Harry himself. I don’t like how his voice sounds here, he’s singing in a super high falsetto, and he just doesn’t sound good at all with it, and his voice is very layered and buried in the mix, which just makes him sound even worse than he should, I also just don’t like the bridge, no matter how catchy it is, it’s just weird with the lyrics and Harry’s voice in that part. Overall I want to like it, and I feel like I would if only it were sung by someone else. I’ll definitely take this over some of our Hitbound debuts though. (Key word some)
Best countdown debut: Shawn Mendes-When You’re Gone
Biggest jumps of the week: Camilla Cabello/Ed Sheeran-Bam Bam, Eddie Benjamin-Weathermam, Doja Cat-Woman, Lauren Spencer-Smith-Fingers crossed, Post Malone/The Weeknd-One right now & Megan Thee Stallion/Dua Lipa-Sweetest Pie(+3) Wow that is a lot of songs. I’m really glad all these jumped here, except for One right now, that ones getting a bit annoying, but if it makes sense, then so I guess it’s alright. I’m also very glad that Sweetest Pie jumped into the top 10, Bam Bam on the other hand is really not doing great and it deserves to be treated way better, and the rest I’m alright with.
Biggest drop of the week: Latto-Big Energy(-9) That didn’t need to happen. This is one of the biggest songs in the country now, come on Hits 1, we need to make this a hit.

Debuts
Alright, so this is definitely a colorful week for Hitbound. First up we have Blu DeTiger on Hot girl crush. I didn’t really like her Hitbound dropout from 2020 called Figure it out, nor am I really a fan of hers, but this song is alright. I really like the production, and Blu DeTigers voice, while not the best fits in kinda well here, although at times she sounds weird, mainly the chorus in particular. The writing here is the weak part though, I’m not really liking it to much, but it’s alright I guess. It’s forgettable though, overall decent but not great.
Next we have a band called New Rules with their new song called Go the distance. This is super forgettable, but from what I can remember I liked the production, and the buildup was great in the beginning, but the vocals weren’t the best. These guys sounded pretty good at first, but then once the chorus hit, they didn’t do so well, mainly because one guy I think was a bit off key or a bit too pitchy. This is also super forgettable though like I said earlier, so overall I don’t really care for it that much, but alright I guess.
This next one is gonna be super fun to see what it does. Next we have some electronic-pop artist named JVKE with his song called This is what falling in love feels like. Now I happen to know that this guy just released a song called This is what heartbreak feels like(pretty little liar) and I have it in on the verge for my chart because it’s actually quite a good song despite this guys voice not really being the best. Yeah, so what’s the problem with this song if I like that one, well mainly it’s the production. It sounds absolutely horrible, and just overly weird. JVKE does not have the voice for this type of production. He doesn’t sound that great here, and it’s also very short. Overall let’s hope that this doesn’t become huge.
Next we have the big return of Lauv on All 4 nothing(I’m so in love) off his next album All 4 nothing. Now I’m a bit mixed on Lauv. I really liked his song I like me better when it first came out, but as time went on and he released more stuff, I really started to realize that he isn’t really the best pop artist. I’d say now the only song I can really tolerate from him is Fuck, I’m lonely. All his other stuff no thanks. This is alright for him, but not the best, and that’s cuz it’s Lauv himself. He really doesn’t sound great here, the chorus is alright, but the verses aren’t that great for him vocally. Production wise, I really like the melodies, and the use of strings here, but it’s not the best production I’ve ever heard as it’s a bit basic. Overall definitely not bad, but it could’ve been better.
Up next is some random alternative band who had a Hitbound dropout last year called Almost Monday with their new song Sunburn, and what is going on here. I don’t remember their last song sounding as bad as this one does. The guys voice really brings this down a lot, he just does not have that great of a voice and sounds horrible here. The production is okay I guess, but again like in the Surfaces song it’s that really weird indie vibe that I don’t like. The writing is alright though I guess. Overall this isn’t something I’d want becoming a hit though.
Next, we have another song that I absolutely cannot stand. Some of these songs they’ve been getting lately really suck, and this is just the latest one that I’ve had to put in Orange, which means worst song. This ones called Handsomer by some rapper named Russ, and it’s a remix with someone named Ktlyn. Usually I really like mainstream rap songs, but nope, not this one, come on Hits 1 even To the moon is better than this crap. Russ has a horrible and boring voice and his flow isn’t that great here, and Ktlyn barely contributes to anything but a really short and forgetable verse, and her voice is even more annoying that Russ’s is. The beat here is not that good either, it’s super basic and I don’t like the background noise used in it. The writing is just awful also. Overall let’s not make this a hit, although it probably will be because of TikTok.
Lastly, we have the latest release from Normani called Fair. I’ve been really trying to grow into this since it came out a few weeks ago, and it’s going alright overall. The song is nothing special, just a boring R&B song. Normani sounds great, and the writing is really well done, but I just can’t get into the production, it’s just too much of a boring R&B beat for me to like. I wouldn’t mind if it debuted, just really boring and a bit forgettable.
We lost MF and Tom’s diner. I’m glad Tom’s diner is gone cuz it was atrocious and the worst remake I’ve heard, as for MF, I knew it wasn’t gonna debut given its name, but it could’ve stayed a bit longer I guess, cuz I’m kinda starting to like it more personally.

I’m surprised the JVKE song is actually supposed to be serviced to radio because it’s from a year ago.
Blurbs
Out of time fell off it’s kinda higher debit from last week. Although I don’t find this to be the best song ever, I don’t think that needed to happen. The Weeknd is pretty popular to, so I was expecting a jump of at least a few spots. Oh well though, maybe next week.
House on fire also took a tumble into the bottom 5. That kinda sucks cuz I’m really starting to like this one a lot now. Let’s hope it can rebound next week.
Not only did out of time fall 5 spots, but so did Sacrifice. I’m a bit sad to see this one drop because it’s a really good song, but at least it made the top 5 here. It kinda sucks that the run is turning out to be short though for this one everywhere, and that it’s starting to flop. Oh well, at least it did well here.
I’m a bit surprised that When I’m gone is still here and still jumping cuz it’s really dying out elsewhere, and it wasn’t on the survey.
Numb little bug switched places with Light switch this week. It’d be cool to see it hit #1, but I don’t think that’ll happen given the fact that no one really knows who Em Beihold is, I’ve tried finding info on her, but I can’t, hmmmmmm I’m gonna have to keep digging for it I guess.
Enemy is #1 again, and while I really don’t want it to be, I have a feeling that I’m gonna be in for a long ride with this one considering the fact that it’s now in the top 5 on mediabase. At least the good thing though is that now that there’s been so many songs I’ve highlighted in Orange this year, and given the fact that there will probably be more songs they pick up on that I’ll maybe not like throughout the year, I’d say this could maybe not even make the list for my top 10 worst songs of 2022. We’ll see how the rest of the year plays out though.
We lost abcdefu and That’s what I want. These 2 songs were(and still are) 2 of my favorite songs from the first quarter of 2022. I’m disappointed that abcdefu never made it to #1, but at the same time it had a really great run here. I kinda forgot how long it’s been here for, it debuted back in December, so it definitely had some longevity to it, and it will be missed. What will be missed even more though is That’s what I want, which literally got taken off the countdown as it’s sitting atop AT40. I’m really not disappointed though cuz this had 3 weeks at #1 here and it became Nases first #1, so overall it’ll be missed, but it had a great run.
#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Tate McRae-Chaotic
Thank y’all for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
Both MONTERO and INDUSTRY BABY also got #1 on AT40 btw. The accuracy is better on At40 than on Hits1
ReplyDeleteWhen will the next personal chart post be out?
ReplyDeleteI had plans to get it out earlier this week, but I got sidetracked, so probably either tomorrow or Saturday. I know those have been coming later lately, it’s just been a bit wild for me the last few weeks because since I went back to school after Spring break the workload increased a bit, but I promise it’ll be out soon.
