Imagine Dragons/JID(1): Week of March, 26th, 2022
Hello everyone, what’s up. We had an interesting countdown this week, and a few things that I’m liking, and some I’m not liking as mucb(you can refer to our new #1 as one of those things) we also have some confusing moves and exits. Before we get into it though I have 2 announcements, first off I’m thinking about doing an event for the community(and anyone else in general) I’m thinking we can either do a 2021 countdown extras rankdown, or something along the lines of a March madness tournament. I’m thinking of doing this when I have some time between semesters for school, so I’d say it’s gonna be mid-may when I Target to do this, so let me know what y’all think and if you’d wanna do it. I’d let anyone do it also, so if you view my blog but your not an immediate part of the community or Hits 1 Discord, don’t worry y’all can join also. Anyways just an idea, so let me know if you’d wanna do something like those I mentioned above. That timeline leads me to my second announcement. I’m not sure the exact dates yet(although I’m gonna guess) I will be away visiting family all the way on the West Coast at the beginning of May. I don’t have the dates yet, except I know I’m returning home May 10th, but given the fact that I’m going out there for a family event on May 2nd my guess would be that I’m gonna miss both the countdowns for April 30th, and May 7th. It’s not a huge deal though, as I can catch up on posting all the action here when I get back, but I just wanted to let everyone know a bit early. Anyways enough of my blabbing, here are the exits for this week.

Debuts
Well this is definitely gonna be an interesting countdown to talk about, but first let’s get the debuts out of the way. First we have easily the worst song I have heard all year from Labrinth and Zendaya debuting at #30 called In tired. This is from the HBO series Euphoria, so that’s obviously why it’s becoming so popular right now, this is so lame though, it’s even more boring than The Joker and The Queen was, hell I would even go as far as to say this is what I’d called the LOAT(lamest of all time) cuz it truly is, I mean there’s absolutely nothing special about this song whatsoever. Labrinth really over sings here, and his voice is just awful, I cannot stand it. He also underwhelms me very much with how bad he does here. Zendaya sounds alright I guess, but this is the same story I’ve told with The Joker and The Queen and Moral of the story, she didn’t need to be part of this laziness. The production here is so haunting and suspenseful, and right when you think it’s gonna pick up it doesn’t, so overall it’s kinda non-existent, which makes this really really really boring to sit through. Lyrically it sucks to. There’s creative about saying,” Hey Lord.” And then putting different lines after it, for the whole duration of the song. There’s no hook or anything that makes me wanna even get into this. Overall I think I’m done with this one, it’s boring, grating and overall not something I wanna listen to on the radio. Thank God we have an upbeat song next.
Next we have one of my new favorite songs right now from none other than The Chainsmokers called iPad)why didn’t they just call it strangers again, iPad is such a weird name for a song). Now this isn’t really a popular song, and it’s not supposed be by any means, but it definitely should be because it has that really nice and bright radio vibe to it, and I think it would smash on the charts compared to something like High(although that’s somewhat smashing) now that being said, I’ve seen some really positive things about this one, especially from people here in the blogger community, and even on Pulse music boards, where people tend to be a bit more negative, anyways, this songs really really good. I love the production here, it has a nice Spring/Summer vibe to it and overall it sounds very unique, and not at all what I’d expect from The Chainsmokers, no mumbled jumbled vocals in the breakouts, and overall Drew Taggert sounds pretty good here. His vocals might be slightly compressed in parts of the verses, but overall it doesn’t really bother me that much. Another thing that I didn't realize(until I watched the live performance of this at the G1 Summit on YouTube) is that in the bridge, where there’s a up pitched vocal, you can very faintly hear Taggert singing along in that bridge, and honestly he sounds louder on the live version that he does in the recording, but if you listen and turn your volume up all the way, you’ll definitely be able to hear him, and he does so good there actually. This dude just has a great voice, and I’m not sure why people overly hate his voice, but some people do. Lyrically I’m digging this also, it’s got that lyrical feel that makes you wanna go back and fix a broken relationship(which is what the song is all about) and being a guy who’s wanted to do that before, it makes it very relatable. Overall great song.
Next we have a song you probably think I hate, but that I actually love, it’s called Freaky Deaky(gotta love that name) from Tyga and Doja cat. Now I wouldn’t think that Hits 1 would even think to get anything from Tyga given the fact that his music is way too sexual in nature, but this is actually quite good, and I can see why people are loving it. Tyga sounds great here, I love his flow, and his verses while a bit sexual in content are very catchy. Doja Cat sounds great here to. The chorus in particular is where she shines, but I love her verse to. Production wise though, this is a vibe. The beat sounds great, and overall very spring/summer vibish, which is something I think we all need right now. Overall great debut, I am loving this.
Lastly we have woah this is kinda a surprise for the highest debut, given the fact that it’s a new artist, we have Mimi Webb finally making her countdown debut with House on fire. This ones really good to, Mimi sounds awesome here, and I’m loving this production, it’s nice and chill and it suits her voice really well. Now I’m a bit confused on the writing, as I’m just not really understanding what this is about, but it’s definitely a love story I can tell, and honestly it sounds a bit sad, but not sad enough to where it’s overwhelming nor underwhelming, it’s perfect. Great debut.
Beat debut: The Chainsmokers-iPad
Biggest jump of the week: Megan thee stallion/Dua Lipa-Sweetest Pie(+8) I honestly saw this coming given the fact that this debuted super low, nice jump let’s get this into the top 10 now.
Biggest drop of the week: Adele-Oh my God(-13) Wow! I thought this would’ve been out by now, but it’s definitely leaving next week. I liked this one while it was here, and overall it had a great run, Although I guess it could’ve stayed for a bit longer.

Debuts
Alright we have some really interesting debuts on Hitbound this week. Kicking it off first we have another collab from Machine Gun Kelly/Blackbear off Kelly’s new album Mainstream Sellout called Make up Sex. I loved Kelly and Blackbears first collab called My Ex’s best friend, and that was such an awesome song, and still is, now this isn’t bad by any means, but it’s definitely not as good as My ex’s best friend. Let’s just emphasize first that the title of this song is not actually said in the chorus(kinda exactly like My ex’s best friend) it’s just a really dumb title that they came up with, but don’t actually say in the song itself, so aside from the kinda awkward name this song is completely fine. I like Travis Barkers production here, and Kelly sounds great, lyrically it’s very creative also, although it may be slightly sexual(I can deal with that though) the lacking magic that doesn’t make this as good as My ex’s best friend though is that there’s no beat change, and Blackbear doesn’t have a very memorable presence unlike in their predecessor, and that makes it a bit forgettable. Overall I wouldn’t mind this debuting though. Cool song.
Next we have yet another Travis Barker produced track, but this ones a bit more memorable and different. It’s called In my head, and it has vocals from 24Kgoldn. This is really cool, I love how Barker mixed the trap, and drum line here, and I think it fits Goldens voice very well. The writing and lyrics are very good and catchy and Golden sounds really good here, especially in the chorus. Overall I wouldn’t mind this debuting.
Alright, so next we have an artist who I’ve just realized that I have an instinct to need to look this guy up, and who he is, if you recognize his name then it’s probably because you’ve either read my opinion on his first song called Toxic, or you’ve seen it on Belugas 2021 Hitbound dropout rankdown. It’s Boywithuke with Blackbear and their song IDGAF. Boywithuke’s first song that dropped out of Hitbound was called Toxic, and it’s extremely forgettable, I could not at all remember what it sounded like until one day(and this is so weird to me) I randomly heard it when I was at a trampoline park with some friends, and me and my friend Shazamed it, and then all of a sudden I remembered what it sounded like. That song itself was extremely forgettable like I said, but this new one is actually memorable in a way. Boywithuke doesn’t have the best voice, let’s be honest he kinda sounds a bit monotone, I like to think of him as a not so interesting version of Tyler Joseph of Twenty one pilots, but this song is so catchy that I just can’t help but like it, the chorus is really catchy, and the verses to, and even though Boywithuke has a monotone voice he doesn’t sound horrible here actually. Blackbears verse is great to, and he sounds awesome. They have some great chemistry here also. Production wise it’s very basic alternative, but it fits perfectly. Overall not bad I guess.
Leah Kate has brought another song to Hitbound, and let me say that nothing that she releases I don’t think will ever line up to how good Dear Danny is, because that’s the most memorable thing I’ve heard from her so far, I mean I can’t even remember what FU Anthem sounds like, but anyways this is her song called 10 things I hate about you, and this is pretty good. Leah Kate sounds great here, and I like the writing, it’s creative and a bit catchy. The production is cool and simple, but a bit basic though. Overall cool debut, but come on Dear Danny is way better.
I’ve been waiting for this moment for a few weeks now, and it’s finally happened. Let you from Iann Dior has re-entered Hitbound. This dropped out a few months ago, but it’s back cuz it’s gaining traction now. I’ve actually grown into this one a bit more to since it’s dropped out. Iann Dior honestly sounds really great here, and the writing is super catchy. I absolutely love the production also, it’s nice and bright and upbeat. Let’s see if this can make it on the countdown.
and now ladies and gentlemen a big fat rant is incoming.
As if I haven’t had to rant about certain songs enough today, my God this is horrible. I didn’t even know this existed until last night holy crap. Some German indie folk group that for the sake of me I cannot pronounce their name has remade the classic 1991 hit called Tom’s diner. Now I’m actually quite familiar with the original because I honestly not only love Hits 1, but I also listen to Lithium on SiriusXM channel 34 sometimes with my family. Lithium plays this style of music known as grunge, which is classified for its messy guitar chords and production style, while keeping that chilled out rock type feel(note I actually learned that in one of my classes I’m taking) and grunge was quite popular in the 90s. Anyways there’s been a rise lately in grunge remakes, obviously the first one coming to mind being Doja Cats version of Celebrity skin, but there’s been others to. This one is apparently the latest, and this is bad. First off I love the “ Da da da da da da da.” Melody, but the guys doing it here sounds boring, and then when the the vocalists start singing they just do not sound good, and they definitely don’t sound like the type of vocalists that should be on this song, the original was sang by a female named Suzanne Vega, and she sounds awesome on it, but these guys do not sound good here at all, especially when the singer with the deep jazz like voice comes in, he does not fit in well with this type of song, and his voice is just so awful. Production wise what the fuck? It sounds like they changed up the production to make it even more basic and less memorable than the original, it’s not even that memorable sounding to me either. It also seems as if they added an extra bridge, or some more instrumental that makes the song longer. It’s boring to sit through, and overall not a great remake. I will happily take the original over this.
We lost FU anthem and Another mans jeans. FU anthem was replaced by 10 things I hate about you, and I kinda can’t remember what It sounds like, so I’m alright with that, and Another mans jeans was a really annoying Ashe song, so I don’t mind if leaving.

Encanto Cast-We don’t talk about Bruno
Ed Sheeran-2Step
Jnr Choi/Sam Tompkins-To the moon
Ok so first off We don’t talk about Bruno is back in the abyss. Why though? This makes no sense, especially for a really high debut. It’s also sounding like their gonna pull the plug on this one quickly to cuz it wasn’t on the survey I did yesterday. That’s stupid, come on Hits 1, y’all need to keep pushing this one it’s getting radio play everywhere else. Whatever though.
Ed Sheeran has another song out called 2Step, and Spyder mentioned the other day that it’s the next single off (=) Equals, but I can’t find any reliable source that says that’s the case, so for right now I’m just gonna call this an unreleased single. Out of all the stuff we’ve gotten from Ed over the last year, this has got to be the best one yet. The guitar riffs sound great, and I’m really digging the trap production. Ed does an awesome job here, and he actually shows us he can rap, which is so cool. Lyrically this is also super relatable and super fun. I’m actually hoping this one hits #1 at some point.
lastly we have another new one called To the moon by a Gambiem-British rapper named Jnr Choi and some R&B vocalist named Sam Tompkins. I did some research on this, and it’s one of those songs where one artist(in this case Tompkins) is sampling another song, while the other artist(Choi) is rapping over it, kinda like Coffee for your head, but way way better. This is kinda vibey and pretty good I’d say, it’s definitely weird and quirky and I’d understand why people would completely hate this, but this is one of those guilty pleasures where it’s too catchy for me not to hate. Jnr Choi gives some major vibes here, and he sounds exactly like Pop Smoke, and I love his voice. Tompkins samples a Bruno Mars song called Talking to the moon over Choi’s rapping and honestly he doesn’t sound too bad. The beat is a bit weird, but it’s very well produced, and I love the in-cooperation of electronic sounds in this. Overall pretty solid I’d say.
Hitbound songs that make sense being here.
Lawrence-Don’t lose sight

Diplo/Miguel-Don’t forget my love
I’m starting to love Don’t forget my love. I’ll go into more detail if it debuts.
Songs that need to debut to make sense
Young Bleu/Kahlani-Beautiful lies
Becky G/Karol G-MAMIII
Ylonda Garcia-Entertain me
Frank Ocean-Lost
Doja Cat-Get into it(Yuh)(as a Re-entry)
Nothing really that I wanna listen to would make sense, except for Get into it(Yuh) which I’ve grown into since it’s dropped out. I’m not sure they’re gonna get it though with Doja Cat saying she wants to quit music.
Blurbs
Peru finally jumped. Awesome, I’m really starting to like this one now with every listen, let’s hope it can keep up the momentum though, cuz it’s very low in AirPlay.
I’m gonna say this for the third week in a row, I think that’s what I want is dead here, cuz it never seems to come on when I tune in, which is weird. This should be out of here next week.
I didn’t expect WYD? Now to jump as much as it did, I don’t really mind though as I kinda still like this one.
I’m sure by now you’ve noticed even before I put my personal chart out that High got dethroned by Bam Bam. I am loving this one a lot now, but how long is it gonna stay up there with #2 coming, can anyone try and guess what #2 is in the comment section.
Weatherman got a nice big jump into the top 20, which is awesome cuz I am loving this one right now, it’s got just the right amount of spring vibes for me to get through anything in life.
I’m a bit surprised Complete mess dropped. Hmmmmmmm imagine if this was 5SOS,s first flop on Hits 1.
Both Woman and Fingers crossed are starting to make comebacks, which is nice to see, although I’m getting slightly tired of hearing the former.
I can completely tell that When I’m gone is gonna flop big time here, with its consistent decrease in AirPlay and drops on the countdown, and to think this could’ve actually hit #1. Oh well.
Sacrifice is starting to drop, yeah I’m starting to get sick of this one also, so it’s probably good they’re getting rid of it soon.
Well well well ladies and gentlemen the day has finally come for High the top 10 at #7(wow that’s actually my lucky number, not joking) uh I’m a bit confused though cuz it had a really sharp decrease in AirPlay this week, and it looks like it’s starting to flop a bit on mediabase, I hope that’s not true here though, maybe it can replace a certain song that’s sitting in the top 5 next week. We’ll just have to wait and see though.
The Motto is now in the top 5. Let’s gooooooooooooooooooooo. This is awesome, let’s make this both artists first #1 Hits 1.
Overpass Graffiti dropped to #4, and while it is getting a bit old now, I’d prefer this to our new #1.
Em Beihold is sitting at #3 with Numb little bug, if light switch isn’t gonna hit #1 then let’s hope this does next week.
And now the moment you’ve all been waiting for.
Bro what the actual fuck? No, really what the actual fuck is this? Enemeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee(sorry I just have to say it that way) by Imagine dragons and JID is #1 this week. What? Bruh I am fucking shocked and pissed at the same time. Bruh, this is just awful in almost every way possible. The production is not good for Imagine dragons standards, Dan sounds horrible when he’s shouting Enemeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, and the message, my God the message is horrible in this song. JID doesn’t make it any better eirher, on the bright side he’s now the 4th black artist, and 3rd rapper to have a #1 song on Hits 1, congradu fucking lations, this song sucks, can we get it out of here as soon as possible please.
We lost emo girl, I hate you, Ghost town and We don’t talk about Bruno. emo girl wasn’t gonna become a big hit, so I’m alright with it leaving, although I did kinda like it. I hate U sucked, so I’m glad that it’s gone, Ghost town was literally number 10 2 weeks ago, so I don’t know why they had to get rid of it so fast, but they did, which sucks cuz I really liked it. It will be missed, and what the hell? Why is We don’t Talk about Bruno out of the countdown, come on Hits 1, for how high this debuted, it should still be on the countdown and climbing. That’s so stupid.
#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Tate McRae-Chaotic
Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
Since you ranted really hard on this new cover of Tom's Diner, what are your thoughts on Centuries by Fall Out Boy, which sampled the original Tom's Diner?
ReplyDeleteI love the use of the sample in Centuries. The remake was really bad, but that melody is the best, it’s so catchy.
DeleteI'd be down for doing either idea.
ReplyDeletePERU IS BAD
