Debuts
First up we have Peru by Fireboy DML and Ed Sheeran. Wow this ones been in the abyss for a while, and I was really hoping it wouldn’t wouldn’t debut, but of course it does cuz ya know it’s Ed Sheeran. Out of all the stuff Ed’s released or been featured on lately, this is the worst thing that’s come from him(actually wait that’s The Joker and The Queen, but this is still pretty bad though) and mainly it’s not because of him, it’s because of Fireboy DML. His voice just is not appealing to me, and you can barely tell what he’s saying cuz of the language barrier. I’ll give the writing some credit for being catchy, but other than that not too much. Ed sounds decent I guess here, but he just doesn’t fit in with the type of vibe this song gives off. The production here is an issue to, while it’s better than on songs like Essence, it’s just not that good. I feel like it has no bass line that can hold it up, and it just doesn’t fit in here. Overall let’s not make this one a thing please.
Ok so next we have Boyfriend by Dove Cameron, which is well a bit better than Peru. I didn’t think this was that great when I first heard it, but it’s grown on me slightly since it’s started to be played a bit. I will say that Dove Cameron has a great voice here, she almost sounds like a very low pitched Tate McRae, and I like her voice here. My problem is that the production sounds way to R&B-ish and overproduced, so it kinda ruins the listen a bit, but not enough to where I really care anymore. Overall this is a decent little song, and I wouldn’t mind it sticking around.
Biggest jump of the week: Em Beihold-Numb little bug(+15) Holy crap, this had the biggest jump 2 weeks in a row, and wow, I guess we’re trying to make Em Beihold a thing now, damn that’s Awesome. I wouldn’t mind this being a #1 song here, it’s really good, and I’ve really been enjoying it. This is just awesome.
Biggest drop of the week: Justin Beiber-Ghost(-15) Woah I was not expecting that big of a drop. Wow I guess this’ll be out next week then. It had a great run here though, and it was really great while it lasted.

Holy crap we’ve got 10 Hitbound debuts. I’m pretty sure that’s breaking a record for most debuts on the show in a given week. Well then let’s waste no time and get started.
First we have a new song that came out last week from Nessa Barrett. I like her music In general. La di die was a really good song, and so was I hope ur miserable until ur dead, so I had really high expectations coming into this one. Now I was gonna debut this on my chart, but I’m sorry it’s just not good enough to debut though I don’t think. It’s still a really solid song though. Nessa Barrett sounds really good here, and I’m loving the writing. This subject matter is good, and it’s something that I really respect an artist for writing about cuz it takes a lot of grit to write a song about sensitive subjects these days. This ones about body image, and while it’s a bit weird and sensitive I’m okay with it. It’s the production that didn’t fully please me here. I love the dark vibe, but it sounds more like a disco song than a pop/punk song, and that really disappointed me because her music is supposed to be that pop/punk style that I like, and that’s why this is good and not great. Overall I would like to see this debut though cuz it’s a really solid song. Next.
Oh we have a really interesting collab next. This is the new one from Camilla Cabello and Ed Sheeran and it’s called Bam Bam(pronounced Bum Bum) now when I first heard this right when it came out I didn’t really think it was great, but after giving this a few listens I’ve grown into it. The production here is very Latin rooted, and it fits Camillas voice well, although Its not quite the type of vibe that should be pushed to radio, but whatever. Camilla sounds lovely here, and although Ed Sheeran really doesn’t fit in here with the Latin beat, I really like his contribution, and I think he sounds pretty good. The writing here is the best part though as it’s very repetitive and catchy. Overall pretty good, I wouldn’t mind this debuting I guess.
Next we have Tove Lo(damn I haven’t heard that name In a while) with her new song from the HBO series Euphoria called How long. Wow uh this is not that good. Tove Lo doesn’t sound good here, and she really doesn’t fit the production of this song, which is very out of place and weird to say the least. I’m also questioning some of the writing here, and whether or not it’s really radio appropriate. It’s also very forgettable. Overall I’ll pass on this. Next.
Next we have kinda a surprising one, as if I can’t get enough of Justin Beiber these days, he’s hopping on yet another collab, and it’s with another Nigerian singer named Omah Lay. The song is called Attention. Now a lot of y’all probably remember I hated Essence, and it ended up in my bottom 10 songs of last year, so I had really low expectations going into this, and overall I can say that this somehow turned out better than both Essence and Peru. I wouldn’t say it’s something I’d actively seek out, but it’s decent enough that I wouldn’t mind it becoming a hit I guess. I really like the darker vibe here, and the production actually sounds decent. Beiber sounds okay, but he’s had both worse and better vocal performances. His verse sounds alright, but his chorus is definitely not the best I’ve heard from him. Omah Lay actually sounds decent here to. This is very forgettable though also. Overall I guess I’d be alright with this sticking around, but I wouldn’t mind it dropping out either.
Oh we’ve got a boy band takeover this week on Hitbound, nice. Next we have Hot Chelle Rae, who are super irrelevant nowadays, debuting with Stupid song. Now I know what your probably thinking right now, I went into this with very low expectations given the song title, but I actually came out really satisfied. These guys sound great here, and the production is actually simple yet vibey. The writing is super catchy to. Overall cool debut. Next.
Oh we’ve got another boy band with a debut, it’s Hits 1 Stan 5 Seconds of Summer with they’re new song Complete mess. Now I’m not the biggest fan of these guys, they’ve had a few songs I’ve really liked, such as Teeth and Old me, but then they also have songs that suck like Amnesia, and don’t get me wrong but Who do you love is not the best song I’ve heard either, and that’s coming from someone who loves The Chainsmokers and is currently loving High right now, now don’t get me wrong 5SOS did sound good in that one, but looking back there were some really cringy lyrics in it also, so it’s not really a song I look back on and think oh this is the best song ever, yeah no, definitely not. Anyways, so this is complete mess 5SOS’s new song, and it’s pretty good. I mean it’s not the best thing they’ve ever produced, but I’ll take it. The guys sound great here, and hey they actually do sound like a band, so that’s a plus. The production here is really cool though, I kinda like the slow moving trap Beat, and I think the guys sound really good here. The writing is also very catchy, and very good, for some reason I feel as if it’s very godly or some sorts even though it’s really not. Anyways cool song. I really wouldn’t mind it becoming a hit.
Ok, so I literally didn’t know this song was coming until the day before it dropped, and wow I really was expecting more. Next we have Ashe with Another mans jeans. Now I hated moral of the story, Ashes voice just ruined that whole thing for me, and so did Nial Horans of course. It was an absolute atrocious mess of a song, and then we got Save myself and Til forever falls apart, which I was very very pleased with actually, but now we’re back again with more Ashe, and wow yeah this sucks. First off the writing is kinda questionable to say the least, I just don’t like it. Ashe sounds horrible here to, she sounds halfway like a country singer, and halfway like she’s doing a really bad Miley Cyrus impression. The production here just doesn’t sound good, or fit in with her voice either. Overall let’s not make this one a hit please.
Alright so next we have a very unusual collab between singer Salem Ilese, who previously had a countdown song called Mad at Disney, K-pop band Tomorrow X Together, or as I’ll just refer to them as TXT, and EDM producer Alan Walker on a song called PS5. Now I literally have no clue where this came from, so I automatically have to assume it’s either Brand new or from TikTok. Now I wasn’t sure what to really expect out of this one either cuz this is a very weird and unusual collab, and what I got from it is not the best thing I’ve ever heard, but definitely not the worst either. Alan Walker did a really great job on the production, and TXT actually sound pretty good here, my problem is with Salem Ilese though, she does not sound great. She’s kinda got a really boring voice here, and also this writing is very weird, and it’s personally not what I’d listen to if I was on a radio station, and this is coming from someone who likes video games to, cuz it’s about gaming. Overall uh alright I guess. Next.
Ok so talk about songs you think I’d hate, but that I very surprisingly find tolerable. We’ve got a new one from Tyga and Doja cat. Let’s just say first off that Tyga is the last person I’d expect Hits 1 to pick anything up from given that his music is very very very overly sexual. Now saying that also, you’re probably reading this right now and asking how the hell I like this given the fact that I usually tend to hate sexual music, and tear it down a lot, especially after Need to know. Now let me elaborate here, there’s some sexual songs that I actually do like, and this would actually be one of them. The beat here is awesome sounding, and very vibey. Tyga sounds great, and he’s got some really great flow in his verses, and Doja cat sounds really good here in the chorus, and in her verse. The writing here is sexual, but I feel as if it’s not too overly sexual, and that they can easily make a suitable edit for it, so yeah I don’t really mind. Overall nice debut.
Finally our last debut is this little song that’s been hangin around for a while on mediabase called Checkmate by some singer named Jenna Rose. You’ve probably seen this on the what needs to debut Hitbound to make sense list, and well it’s finally here. I hadn’t really heard this before it debuted, but after listening to it, I can say it’s decent enough. I really like Jena Roses voice here, and the writing is very creative and a bit catchy to. My problem here is that the production is very basic and forgettable. Overall not the worst, but also not the best.
As for the Hitbound exits, we lost Pushin P, So hot your hurting my feelings, sunroof, fast times and I h8 that I still feel bad for U. Let’s be real none of these were gonna debut, or be hits cuz they weren’t gonna be pushed to radio anyways. I don’t care about The first 2 cuz they sucked, sunroof I am a bit disappointed by, as it’s now on my chart, but whatever I guess, I still find it quite good. Fast times I honestly kinda forgot existed so we didn’t really need it sticking around and I h8 that I still feel bad for U was another failed attempt to make Claire Rosinkranz a thing, so oh well to that I guess but ok.

Ladies and gentlemen after a few very satisfying listens, I can officially say that I’m hopin on the We don’t talk about Bruno train. Not gonna lie, this is kinda a masterpiece. I wouldn’t say it’s the best thing I’ve ever heard, but there’s nothing really that I can find that makes me hate it anymore. I wouldn’t mind if this stuck around for a while actually, assuming it debuts next week.
Celebrity skin is also here now, and Have mercy has Re-entered to. Ok I guess I’m cool with that. At least they’re still giving them a chance.
We lost Wandered to LA. Ya know it’s been 3 months since the songs been out, and honestly it was bound to leave at some point. I still love it, and I’ll miss it, but there’s better songs on Hits 1 that have better rotation that I can listen to aka High.

Wow, despite the record breaking debut number, Hits 1 did a great job at picking up Hitbound songs this week. Less irrelevant stuff, more good stuff. Great job to them.

Chris Brown-Iffy
Lawrence-Don’t lose Sight
Iann Dior-Let you(as a re-entry)

Overall this was another really solid countdown, there was 1 thing that really kinda bothered me that I will bitch about, and most of y’all probably already know what it is, but we’ll get there when we get there.
I hate U fell 3 spots. Eh I mean what am I gonna do complain about it, not really, I mean this song wasn’t really meant to be on pop radio anyways, so I think I’ll take this as a plus for the countdown. Do it to it fell 3 spots to, I mean what did I really expect this not to do horribly here, cuz it can’t even get into the top 20. Go away next week stupid uncreative lazily produced song.
The Joker and The Queen jumped, and right off the bat I’m questioning how it’s still here given the fact that I’ve checked every single day this week, and it hasn’t been played on Hits 1 since Monday night, so unless I don’t have the accurate AirPlay numbers this is kinda illogical. Next.
Let’s get to some songs that I love right now that clearly look like they’re going to flop. First we have The Motto falling 3 spots. Really I mean come on really Hits 1. This deserves way better. I still think it could get a bit more AirPlay to, cuz I didn’t see any real changes since last week.
Closer jumped into the top 20. Ok that should’ve happened last week but whatever, at least it survived.
I think Ghost town is starting to fall. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted, and hey maybe we can get Room for 2 on here.
Message in a bottle is also continuing to plummet.
Woman reached a new peak, nice.
Well uh if you haven’t guessed what really pissed me off this week it’s that one number that some people think is very unlucky #13, now I for one find it to be one of my lucky numbers for some random reason, but come on really Hits 1, you had 1 job this week, and that was to make High into the top 10. That didn’t happen, and this is the moment I realize this is probably going top flop big time. Oh well. Next
Oh my God, and that’s what I want are continuing to take tumble to. Ok
Nice to see She’s all I wanna be in the top 10, if only they’d play it more when I tune in, that would make it a lot better.
When I’m gone got a huge jump off it’s debut. Hmmmmmmmm maybe this is why High isn’t doing great.
let’s hope abcdefu can get past Enemy, but unfortunately I don’t see that happening.
Overpass Graffiti held at #1 for the 3rd week in a row. Ok I’m not gonna complain, although I’d like to see Light switch dethrone this at some point.
We lost Have mercy and Anxiety this week. Have mercy is in the abyss again, but it really could’ve stayed longer and done better, so I hope it Re-enters soon, as for Anxiety ya know I was really considering putting this one on my own chart, as it was a pretty solid song, but I just don’t see me seeking it out now, so I’ll probably end up removing it from my on the verge list next week. Oh well, we tried making Coi Leary a thing and it didn’t work. I’m not gonna complain though as I’ve seen better songs.
#1 recommendations for Hits 1: Regard/Years & Years-Hallucination, Internet Money/24Kgoldn-Options, Clean Bandit/A7S-Everything but you, Big time rush-Call it like I see it and Dreamr/Ruff/Channel Yates-Summer of ‘16
Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
