Tiesto/Tate McRae(2): Week of April, 1st 2023

Hello everyone and What’s up? Wow, I got this post out in like record time this week. This is going up like 6 hours after this weeks countdown first aired. That’s incredible given the fact that I had to take a little hiatus here during the first quarter of the year, and also given the fact that my posts haven’t even coming on time every week ever since what happened last September. I guess I’m ready to get back on that grind then, although I can’t promise posts to be on time like this every week because of school and stuff, escpecially this month since it’s gonna be finals time for me soon and I have a lot of work I’m gonna have to get done pretty soon. Anyways, happy April Fools day to everyone, as it is the official start to April, and to a new month and new quarter of the year. I sure as hell didn’t get pranked by The Chainsmokers just before publishing this post(lol I did 😂) anyways uh no April foolin around here folks let’s get into this weeks countdown, starting with our exits.

Debuts

Too Well re-entered at #19, wow, I can’t see this sticking around for long, but with that high of an entry we’ll see. It’ll be interesting to see what they do with it. The song has faded on me a bit, but I still like it a ton.

Our only debut this week is Ed Sheeran’s new song Eyes Closed and I went into a lot of detail last week on why I love this song, and personally it’ll probably be my favorite song within a week or 2, but for right now I had to demote it to green because of our current #1. This song is amazing though. It’s about how Ed dealt with the death of his longtime friend and the person who started off his music career Jamal Edwards, who died unexpectedly last year of a drug overdose(RIP Jamal), so this song is a tribute to him, and I love it. The writing connected with me on a personal level just because I’ve dealt with a lot of loss at the beginning of 2023, but it makes me happy instead of sad because the production is good and I’m this happy sounding melody that puts me in a good mood anytime I hear it. It’s accustic, and a bit of electronic, which is cool and although it sounds a bit basic, I really like it. Ed puts some good emotion into the vocals here, although they don’t seem as powerful as to his performance on Bad Habits, but these are 2 completely different songs we’re talking about here, so it makes sense, and like I said he sounds great. The lyrics are catchy to, especially the hook and chorus. Overall, I love this, great song Ed, at least you made one that connects with me on another level.

Best entrant: Ed Sheeran-Eyes Closed

Biggest jump of the week: Kane/Katelyn Brown-Thank God(+6) Nice song, although I have realized that it’s a bit on the boring side, but I still really like it and don’t mind if it re-peaks or goes farther here.

Biggest drop of the week: Raye/070 Shake-Escapism(-6) I Ah, I was thinking this would hit the top 10 this week, but I guess not. This song is starting to get a bit old, but I still love it and would love to see it rebound next week.

Countdown extra: Crash Adams-Give Me a Kiss

Last years #1 song: Imagine Dragons/JID-Enemeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee(2nd of 6 annoying and non-consecutive weeks at #1)

My favorite song from last year: Tiesto/Ava Max-The Motto(this aged very well given the fact that 10:35 is #1 this week)

My least favorite song from last year: Labrinth/Zendaya-I’m Tired

Hitbound

NOTD/Maia Wright-AM:PM

Charlie Puth/Dan + Shay-That’s Not How this Works(Debut)

Amelia Moore/Jxdn-Fuck Up My Dreams(FUMD)

Charlie on a Friday/Lil TJay-Same Friends(Debut)

Bebe Rexha-Call On Me(Debut)

Chappell Roan-Kelidescope(Debut)

Crash Adams-Give Me a Kiss

Jessie Murph-Where Do You Go?

All Time Low-Calm Down

Toosii-Favorite Song

Fall Out Boy-What a Time to be Alive

Big Boss Vette-Pretty Girls Walk

JVKE-This is What Losing Someone Feels Like

Lewis Capaldi-How I’m Feeling Now

Nicki Minaj-Red Ruby da Sleeze

Patrick Martin-Dandelion Eyes

Debuts

Alright, kicking off Hitbound with a really weird bit somehow solid collab from Charlie Puth and country duo Dan + Shay. I’ve heard some of their music and I liked songs such as Tequilla and Speechless and their big collab with Justin Beiber 10,000 Hours, so with that one in mind I went into this with some pretty big confidence, and I will say that while this wouldn’t be the best collab nor either artists best song, I do kinda like this. Dan + Shay sound great here and they harmonize and have some really nice chemistry with Puth. Now I don’t think this is his best performance ever, even Light Switch, Obsessed and Left and Right easily top this, but he sounds alright here I guess. He fits in with the production really well too, I kinda like how it starts off slow, but evolves into a nice upbeat and chill song. The writing here isn’t too catchy either, but the storyline is interesting because it’s about how some people after they dump you will just want to come back, and I’ve seen situations happen like that before, so this is a bit relatable. Cool song, I wouldn’t mind it doing well here.

Next we have more of Charlie on a Friday with his new song called Same Friends, and it has a guest verse from Lil TJay who had that song called Calling My Phone back in 2021. This is great, it kinda is a mix between That’s What I Get and Colorado Boulder(which was the first song I ever heard from him and then forgot about until I searched it up again). The beat is really nice and has a lot of bass, kinda similar to the one on That’s What I Get, and I really like those type of trap beats that have that. Charlie sounds fine and Lil TJay does a good job on his verse and sounds great. I also like the writing which talks about how Charlie always hangs out with the same friends he’s always had, and I can feel relatable, well……………. Because I do the same thing. I always hang out with the same people. Overall pretty solid song.

You know what’s not solid though? Our last debut, which is a  song from some random artist named Chappell Roan called Kaleidoscope. Pardon me because I barely wanted to listen to this last night when it came on Hitbound, and so while it was playing I sat back turned down the volume and watched some TV, so my review on this might seem a bit bland, but that’s exactly what this song is, so in short. The production is super boring and not upbeat, all it is is a piano ballad, and Chapell Roan doesn’t really have the best voice, but I guess it’s not horrible sounding. The writing is about love I think and how it’s affects can feel like a kaleidoscope at times when your heart gets broken(if I’m even right on this lyrical meaning), which is relatable, but it’s just too boring to sit and listen to for 3 whole minutes. Please get something a bit less boring next time Hits 1.

Ok so it’s been a few hours since I originally put this post out, and someone actually commented and said that I forgot to review a song, and in fact I did. lol. Our last debut(that I forgot to review) is Call On Me by Bebe Rexha, and this is a really good song, and way better than Heart Wants, albeit, it’s still slightly forgettable, but not as much to an extent. Bebe has a really good voice here and the production is so nice and EDM-ish Here that it just bops. The lyrics are also catchy. Nice song overall.

As for our exits, we lost Glue Song and Shut Me Up(for the second time). I didn’t care at all for Glue Song, so I’m glad it’s gone, and as for Shut Me Up, I never saw it becoming huge, but it would’ve been nice to have it debut. Oh well though,

Best Hitbound debut: Bebe Rexha-Call on Me

The abyss

Rema/Selena Gomez-Calm Down

Morgan Wallen-Last Night

Zara Larson-Can’t Tame Her

Bebe Rexha-Heart Wants What it Wants

Macklemore/Collett-No Bad Days

Havana Winter-Death Wish

Taylor Swift-All of The Girls that you loved before

Miguel-Sure Thing

Miley Cyrus/Brandi Carlisle-Thousand Miles

Heart Wants What it Wants finds itself here. How surprising.

We only lost Daylight and That’s What I Get. I never cared for Daylight, and they tried to push it like 3 times, so good riddance to it and May it never come back ever again I hope, and as for That’s What I Get, it’s actually better than both Same Friends and Enough, so it kinda sucks to see it go, but it’s alright I guess. It will be missed by me though.

Yeah I still haven’t listened to Thousand Miles yet,

Blurbs

Cinderella Snapped, or as I like to call it Victoria’s Secret Part 2, moved up 3 spots to #23. As much as I am getting really annoyed with Boys a Liar, I am also starting to get really annoyed with this one, so it’ll be a race for which one is my current least favorite song of 2023, although the latter is slightly more annoying I think. It doesn’t make this song any better though, can we please get it off this countdown, it doesn’t need to be jacking up space here.

Wings moved up 3 spots also to #14, but unlike Victoria’s Secret Part 2, this one actually deserves that jump. Ya know folks, it may only be a 1 minute and 58 seconds long, but it’s actually quite good. I’m most certainly looking forward to their new single Waffle House, which drops on Friday, especially since I’ve been the The Waffle House recently and have seen it a lot in the news recently also. Enough about that though, back to the countdown.

Nobody Gets Me fell another 3 spots and out of the top 10. This one is starting to fade on me slightly because I’ve heard it too much, so I’m alright with that. I’m questioning how it’s still here though, cuz they barely even play it now. How weird.

Red Flags jumped 3 spots to #11, and I wanna know who truly cares because this song is so forgettable even though it’s very solid. It was removed from the survey though, so it should be gone very soon.

Love from the Other Side is in the top 10, as it also jumped 3. Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. It took some time, but I knew it would get there. I’m so happy that it’s doing well here too, cuz it’s struggling outside of Hits 1. It can barely even reach the top 40 on Mediabase, if it even gets there, which it probably won’t.

Why is Lavander Haze still here? This should be outta the top 5 by now? I’m a bit pissed that Lottery was taken out of the top 5 instead of this song, but it’ll probably return next week.

Looks like Niall Horan is having some fast rising chart momentum again as Heaven is now at #3. This’ll probably be #1 for a while because we all know Hits 1 just can’t get enough of Niall, and also because he’s a coach on The Voice right now, so that’s kinda boosting his popularity I think.

10:35 is #1 for a second week in a row(as well as it is on my chart). Great job Hits 1. This song even though it’s old, makes me happy, so I’m glad that it’s having its moment here. The vibe is still so perfect for this time of the year too, so overall I love this. It’ll probably be replaced by Heaven though next week. At least it got its chance to shine though.

Our only other exit this week was Weapons by Ava Max, and while I like this song a lot, it’s not my favorite off of Diamonds and Dancefloors. It will most certainly be missed, as it brings a powerful message and overall great talent from Ava. At least Hits 1 gave it a chance unlike other stations.

By the way at the beginning of this post I shared that I may or may not have gotten pranked by The Chainsmokers this morning, and well I actually did. They posted an announcement in their Discord server about a new song dropping on April 31st, and I kinda wasn’t fooled, but it did kinda take a minute to clock with me that there’s no April 31st. April Fools! When they do release the new song though there will be a lot to talk about, I’m just still waiting patiently for that day. Happy April Fools Day to everyone and go out there and make it a great one.

Recommendations for Hits 1: ILLENIUMM/American Teeth-Insanity & Sigala/Mae Muller/Caity Basser/Stefflon Don-Feels This Good

Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
