Lizzo(1): Week of July, 30th 2022

Hello everyone and what’s up? I hope everyone has had a good week. This weeks countdown and Hitbound were really good compared to last weeks, and I’m so happy that I won’t have to go on another rant like last week. I really know that Probably shouldn’t have happened, but I just kinda had a really rough week last week after Hitbound with my feelings, and so it kinda naturally triggered me to want to rant, and obviously that’s what happened. There’s no need for anymore of those here, and I kinda realized like yeah fuck radio, but at the same time they do a pretty good job at pushing their own stuff, so I’ve let my whole feelings about radio not getting songs I like let go and just deal with what I have to review here because the majority of it really isn’t anything bad, anyways that’s just my little thing about that. Also one more quick announcement, yes I know I’ve been lazy, but I promise Summer Madness will continue this week, again I’ve been busy and so has my little assistant who’s helping me out with it, so be patient and don’t worry, if it has to be extended into the Fall I’m completely fine with that. Anyways with all that out of the way, let’s get started with our exits for this week.

Debuts

So both our debuts I talked about last week, so I’m gonna be very brief in my reviews of them. Our first one is Middle of a breakup by Panic at the disco  I think after hearing this again that it might have a chance to grow on me, but for right now it’s still decent. The production is slower like in Viva Las Vengeance, but it sounds a bit less basic than in that song. Brendon Urie sounds great here, and it helps that he doesn’t sound all angry and shit. The writing is interesting to. Overall I can live with this, in fact I wouldn’t completely mind it doing well here.

Our other debut coming from the abyss(real shocker) is Vegas by Doja cat from the soundtrack of the Elvis movie(which I am actually seeing this weekend) and this song is Dojas weakest in my opinion, but it’s still a great song. Doja sounds great here, and her flow isn’t bad. The writing is super catchy, and the production while a bit weak is still a vibe solely because whoever the background singer is sounds awesome and really blends in well to enhance the song and background itself. I’m not sure how this writing and song itself is supposed to be about Elvis, but I guess I’ll find that out soon. Great song really hope it does well here.

Biggest jump for the week: Beyoncé-Break my soul(+7)  it’s nice to see this get a big move, although it’s not my favorite song right now. Let’s hope it keeps the upward momentum though.

Biggest drop of the week: Stephen Sanchez-Until I found you(-7)  I really really really want to like this song because I saw a video of him performing this live, and his voice is so much better live than on the radio, but I still kinda don’t care about this fully, so I’m not sure if that’ll ever happen.

Debuts

Wow it looks like they kinda cleaned up the list this week, good thing I don’t have to go on a big fat rant again.

Die First re-entered, nice to see.

Kicking off Hitbound with another really lame song from Billie Eilish, Really Hits 1? I will admit that this is way better than The 30th, but I mean come on it’s still a horribly boring song. The production is once again a Snoozefest, although there is a little part in the middle where it picks up, and that’s fine, but what I don’t like about this one in particular is the writing. I feel like it was a bit cheesy and just doesn’t fit in with the style of song Billie was going for here. Like in last weeks debut I think she sounds good vocally, it’s just that this shouldn’t be anywhere near radio.

Next we have a new song from Beyoncé’s album Renaissance   called called Summer Renaissance. I don’t really call myself a huge Beyoncé fan anymore, although I used to be, so I never really was excited for this album to come out, although it is a very much disco album, and I like that style, I just think there’s better more skilled artists who can do disco better than Beyoncé (you can pretty much think of any EDM producer out there right now, and I’ll say they’re better at doing disco than she is) again it’s not a problem with her, I just think that there’s better artists who can do disco style music and EDM much better than this album. I wasn’t really impressed with a few songs off of it, but I did like Break my soul, so I had decent expectations for this, and this isn’t actually that bad, if I were to describe this it would simply be a long and dark version of Diplo’s Don’t forget my love and The Chainsmokers and Ship Wrecks The Fall, but without a drop really. The production is nice and groovey and Beyoncé sounds great throughout, although it is kinda weird how she raps in this because her rapping is not the best and it doesn’t fit with the beat too well, so I could’ve gone without that, other than that 1 issue though I’m alright with this, the writing is cool and it’s a nice vibe overall. Nice disco  song. Next.

Ok, so through all of my bitching and complaining that I’ve done this week, I started to question why the hell this next song is becoming popular. It’s called Bad Habit and it’s by some guy named Steve Lacy. Ok, so this is decent, but at the same time why the hell is it so popular? I mean it’s indie, do people really wanna hear indie on the radio? I wouldn’t think so nowadays, but we found out it’s possible with Tai Verdes and Surfaces, and now apparently we’re finding out with this guy. So first off fun fact if anyone remembers Foushae from the super stupid and forgetable song Deep End from last year that spent a week on the countdown, she’s actually a backup singer on this in the intro and outro, and while I don’t admire her voice, I think she blends in pretty well. Steve Lacy doesn’t have that good of a voice in my opinion, but the song is a bit catchy and the production while super weird sounding with the indie vibe is cool. I really like the use of the synths in the background, that makes it a whole lot more tolerable and disco-ish than you might think. Overall this is alright I guess, but Ed Sheerans song called Bad Habits with an S at the end is much more memorable.

Ok, so this next one is a weird but great mashup, and I didn’t even realize it’s not doing shit on streaming until this morning. Wow, I guess the Beyoncé effect is gonna turn this next song into an I Love U, because I honestly see the same thing that happened with that song now happening with this song. It’s called American Psycho by Marshmello, Mae Muller and Trippie Redd, and it’s actually really good. I wasn’t in love with it too much when I took my first listen, but after listening a few more time, I actually really like this. It’s not Marshmello’s best song by any means, nor even Numb can top that list, but his production sounds great here, and I really love the buildup and use of the guitar in the chorus. Mae Muller sounds fantastic on this, I’ll compare her to Tate McRae because she sounds just as good as she normally would on a song. Trippie Redd wasn’t really needed in my opinion, but he sounds good and does add some to the mix here. The writing is catchy and interesting to. Overall not bad.

Next we have a new rapper by the name of OHNO with his song called Drowsy. This is a very chill and vibey rap song. Nothing too special, but I can see the appeal. OHNO kinda sounds like The Kid Laroi, but with a bit of Post Malone vibes mixed in. He sounds great here vocally, and the production while very simple and downbeat a bit works out fine with his voice and fits the vibe he was going for. The writing is a bit forgettable, but from what I remembered it was also super relatable, so overall not bad.

AJR is back with a new song(Yay). I love AJR, They always put the fun into alternate, and it’s no different on this new song called I Won’t. I will admit that the production does kinda sound a bit downtempo and weird here, but it fits in perfectly fine with Jack’s voice, and the buildup is really nice to vibe to. Jack sounds good here, and the writing is catchy and really relatable and good. Overall just a great little vibe. Next.

Ok, so this next artist was apparently the Armenian contestant for the Eurovision Song Contest, and I guess her song is now on Hitbound. Her name is Rosa Linn and the song is called Snap. Fun fact there’s 3 different versions of this, the original one we have here, a sped up and high pitched one, and a remix. Overall after listening to all of them the remix is definitely the best, and also I have no clue what in the fuck happened, but I swear that the high pitched one has cursed my Apple Music because before I listened to the countdown this morning I went and I listened to my favorite song right now(which is Time Bomb by The Chainsmokers) and as I’m listening to this song I’m realizing that the BPM is super off, it sounded like a song that radio would play and speed up, which is super weird because if you’ve even taken the time to listen to it you’d probably know that it’s kinda a slower song, it’s very short, but the BPM is super slow, and so I find it super weird that overnight it would change, and so now I am just randomly going to decide that this song somehow has cursed my Apple Music’s BPM(or at least the sped up version) the song is not that bad though. Rosa Linn sounds great throughout and I really like the acoustic production, it’s a bit slow but great sounding and the writing is super catchy. Overall not bad.

Lastly we have another new song from Leah Kate called Life Sux, and I was a bit late to the party on this one as I just didn’t have time to hear it until Hitbound actually aired, but this is super good. The production ls awesome and has great buildup, and Leah sounds amazing. The writing is super catchy and even though life doesn’t actually suck it’s super relatable especially for people who are going through hard times as I see it. Overall great song, and I really hope it becomes a bit like 10 things I hate about you.

We lost The 30th, Stay with me(insert facepalm here), Disaster, The Idea, Baby boo, Blender and Breakfast. The 30th was not good and it was replaced by TV, which I’m pretty certain is an actual single anyways, so I don’t really care. Disaster was great, but I never saw it debuting in the end, Baby boo was alright, and I thought I’d warm up to it a bit, but I never really did get the chance to before it left, so it kinda sucks, but at the same time it doesn’t because the song was forgettable. Blender was a good song, and much better than 5SOS’s current countdown representation, and I would’ve loved to see it debut, but I get there’s reasons as to why that couldn’t happen. Breakfast sucked and was very cringy, so I’m glad it didn’t debut. I am not very happy about The Idea or Stay with me leaving though. The former is a great punk song, and I really can see some appeal in it, so I don’t know why we had to get rid of it and as for the latter, let me just say it again, fuck you Hits 1. Stay with me is my second favorite song right now, and now you’ve gone and fucked over another song that I give a 10/10 to. Why does this shit all of a sudden start happening with all my favorite songs, I mean at least I Love U got some mercy, but come on really, do we have to seriously not let this be a hit because I saw and still see some great potential in it knowing that Pharrell and Timberlake are on it. I guess they can’t understand what to push and what not to push though nowadays. Goodbye great song you will be forever missed.

Morgan Wallen-Wasted on you

Demi Lovato-Substance

Drake/Future/Tems-Wait for U

Yung Gravy-Betty(Get Money)

Lizzo-2 Be loved(am I ready)

Why must Betty be in the abyss now? It’s like every fucking song I like goes into this thing nowadays and gets fucked over later, why can’t they just keep all of this shit on Hitbound for Gods sake?

2 Ve loved(am I ready) is also back as it’s being promoted as an actual single now. I’m alright with that, although it’s not as good as About Damn Time.

Also for some reason I left out both Substance and Wait for U last week, but their both now in the abyss. This is obviously why I hate this thing. It’s too hard to track sometimes.

We lost both Want Want and Life’s too short. The former would’ve been cool to see debut, so it kinda sucks that it’s gone and the latter sucked so I don’t really care that it’s gone.

Blurbs

Not much happened this week,

Jack Harlow moved down 5 spots with First class. I can see this being it’s last week here since it hasn’t been on the survey lately, but it’s a great song so I don’t understand why it didn’t so well here. Oh well, Hits 1 is weird sometimes,

Sheluvme moved up 4 spots and is on the edge of the top 20. I really like this song, even though I never really hear it on Hits 1, so it would be awesome if it became a hit here, and I hope it does.

I know a lot of people here don’t like Running up that hill, but I have to question Hits 1 as to why it’s moving down 4 spots off it’s debut. The song is old that’s true, but that doesn’t mean it should be dropping 4 spots, if it’s becoming a hit, make it a hit Hits 1.

Left and Right jumped 6 spaces, that’s really nice to see because I’m starting to love this song even more, but something is telling me Charlie’s upcoming collab wirh Calvin Harris and Shenseea will overtake this.

Why is Ass it was jumping again? Shame on you Hits 1, it should be dropping big at this point with the amount of AirPlay it has.

Speaking of Harry, Late night talking fell to #3. Nice move, I will admit that I have been trying to listen to this song less, even though I love it, just to let artists who I like much more get better positions on my own chart. Kinda of an assholish move on my end, but hey I gotta do what I gotta do.

Sunroof fell to #2, oh no, this is my Favorite countdown song right now, and I can’t help but not get it out of my head, but at he same time oh hell yes because.

About Damn Time by Lizzo has finally hit #1. Lets Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! And with that Lizzo is the first solo black woman to have a #1 song on Hits 1 in 13 years, and while that may not seem too important to some people, it kinda is because all these years hits 1 has seemed to undermine black talent, but they finally made another black person and more importantly black female hit #1, while this isn’t my exactly favorite song right now just because I’ve gotten burnt out a bit from it, it’s still great and definitely deserves to be #1. Great job at not fucking up Hits 1.

As for our exits we lost love me more and Thousand miles. Love more more was a Snoozefest that I forgot about anytime I heard it, so I don’t care that it’s gone, and Thousand Miles is a great song that deserved just a bit more. It wasn’t Laroi’s best, but it was still great, and it will forever be missed my me,

#1 recommendation for Hits 1: The Chainsmokers/Chloe George-Time Bomb

  8. We now have 101 Hitbound dropouts for the year. I decided not to include the remix of Jiggle Jiggle since the original had a few weeks on the countdown, also Die first was taken off and I added 2 be loved even though it’ll probably end up making the countdown now because it had dropped out but hadn’t re-entered so that still constitutes it as a Hitbound dropout until it debuts the countdown(or not)

Tiesto/Tate McRae(6): Week of April, 29th 2023

Wow, this community is deserted. Why did I leave all of sudden with no word
