Lil Nas X(3): Week of February, 12th 2022

Hello everybody and what’s up. First off I am so happy to announce that we have just hit 5,000 pageviews on this blog. Thank you guys so much for that. If y’all look at my posts every week that means a lot to me, and so once again thank you. Sometimes it can be stressful doing this, mainly because it’s hard to keep track of the number of weeks each song has had on the countdown, and with so many good songs it’s sometimes hard to rank everything, but that’s alright cuz doing that is part of the fun and I understand that. I just love doing this for y’all every week, and I hope y’all enjoy reading these. I’m planning on doing a 5000 pageviews special soon, so stay tuned for that. Overall this week was great, except for one really big Hitbound debut that I got really disappointed by, anyways more on that to come but for now here are our exits.

Debuts

First up on our debut list(which was really good this week) we’ve got a song that’s really not making an impact anywhere else right now(which is really disappointing) it’s called Anxiety by Coi Leray. If you don’t know who Coi Leray is, she’s a tiktoker, R&B singer and rapper, I’d say she’s very similar to Chloe in her style. Thus is her first song on the countdown, and it’s awesome. She sounds pretty good throughout it, and I’m really loving the beat on this one, this has probably one of the best trap beats out there right now(besides the new 24Kgoldn song and of course High) but anyways it sounds awesome, and she fits in very well with it. The writing here is the best part though I’d say. It’s all about her(I’m assuming) struggles with depression and anxiety, and the lyrics here are catchy and very well written for the subject matter, and style of the song. Overall not much else to say, but great debut.

Alright let’s goooooooooo! Here’s the one I’ve been waiting for, and it finally debuted. Finally Tiesto gets his first song on the countdown in 3 and a half years, and he brought along Ava Max on this one, called The Motto. Now if you don’t know my taste in music already, let me just say I love Ava Max, she’s beautiful and spectacular, and she’s got a phenomenal voice. Tiesto on the other hand yall probably knew I liked given the fact that his song The Business(which dropped out of Hitbound last year) was my 2nd favorite song of 2021, so when this song dropped like 3 months ago(wow it’s been that long since this was released) I had very high expectations for it, and oh boy did they really deliver. First off let’s talk about Tiestos production here. It’s great, it matches the vibe of the song really well, and I love how it’s nice and dark, but also upbeat and party-like at the same time. Whatever sound he put in the beginning of this to(the duh duh duh duh duh duh duh) really intrigues me anytime I hear this for some reason, and it just matches that darker vibe really well I think. Now we get to the real star of the show though, which is Ava Max. She doesn’t sound as good as in some of her other songs, and that’s cuz well it’s Tiesto, so she has all these affects on her voice, but unlike in some other EDM songs(e.g almost anything produced by Zedd) the affects actually don’t make her voice sound bad at all, all they do is enhance it even more, and honestly she’s still got a very lovely voice here, even if she’s singing in a different key than usual(at least I think she is) Lyrically I love this to, it’s not only catchy, but it’s something that gives me the party vibes(and trust me I need a lot of those with all the schoolwork I do everyday). Overall this is amazing, I can really see it blowing up as we get into the spring break, and summer seasons. Anyways awesome debut, and nice job to Hits 1 for getting Tiesto another very well deserved hit.

Alright next we have emo girl by Machine Gun Kelly and Willow. Now obviously I didn’t like Meet me at our spot while it was here, but this I don’t mind at all. The production is really good here, and I love how it sounds more like T RAN S P A R E N T S O U L(can’t believe I actually wrote that out) than Meet me at our spot, cuz Willow sounds a lot better here with the production in her verse and in her chorus. Kelly sounds awesome to, as it really just matches the vibe that we get with most of his songs nowadays. The writing is pretty good here to, and it’s not the catchiest pop/punk song I’ve heard, but it holds up pretty well still. Overall nice replacement for Meet me at our spot. I’ll take this over that any day.

Our final debut(and really amazing one to) comes from Tate McRae on her new song She’s all I wanna be. I love her let’s just say that, I mean I’m not embarrassed to say that I think I have a bit of a crush on her, she’s so hot, and I Stan the crap out of her music(although I’m stanning The Chainsmokers currently) now Feel like shit left the countdown this week, and was replaced by this, and I’m more than alright with that cuz this is way better, indeed I think I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say this is the best song I’ve heard from Tate(if we’re counting her solo songs) I mean this rocks. Tate sounds amazing here as she always does, and I love the production, it’s more pop/punk like, which I think suits her very well, and it sounds way better than the other stuff she’s released(besides You of course). The writing here is awesome to, it’s a bit girly, but it’s something I think everyone can relate to at least once in their lives, which is being replaced by someone who’s better than you, and it’s very catchy to. Overall another amazing debut.

Best debut of the week: this is very very close, but I’m sorry Tate it’s Tiesto/Ava Max-The Motto.

Biggest drop of the week: Ed Sheeran-Shivers(-4). Oh God this is gonna be replaced by something horrible I’m afraid. It’s had a great run here though, and even though now I don’t find it to be the best song because of overplay and how many weeks it had at #1 here, I think I’ll probably end up looking back at this a few years from now and saying,” man that was a really great song.” Cuz that’s what usually happens with songs that get overplayed(with me at least) great run though and ugh we are gonna have some words to say about Ed though coming up in a few and probably next week(if this is replaced by our song on Hitbound)

Biggest jump of the week: Avril Lavigne/Blackbear-Love it when you hate me(+13). This got a really nice boost this week(although it’s AirPlay average is not really that great) I’m really glad to see this jump big though because I’m loving this one right now.

Debuts

This Hitbound list is just getting way worse right now, I mean at least we had 3 really awesome debuts this week, but overall I’m not too impressed with this list(as you can see by the color coating) we also had emo girl,Anxiety, and She’s all I wanna be pull Sunday bests. Really? This is not the way Hitbound should be.

Alright so starting off with the debuts that I can actually tolerate. First off we have a new song from Doja cat called Celebrity skin, and wow! This is a huge upgrade compared to Need to know. Doja sounds completely different here, she sounds kinda like Miley Cyrus in a way, but without the southern accent. Yeah she does a great job here vocally, and in fact I’d say this is her best vocal performance I’ve ever heard coming from her. I like the production here to, it’s nice and bright, and it’s 90s sounding which is really cool cuz I not only love 80s beats, but  90s beats to. The writing is good to, and catchy. Overall great song for Doja cat, I’ll even take this over Woman. (Editors note I found out this was a cover of a 1998 grunge song since I wrote my initial review of this earlier this morning. Wow! That’s why this sounds so cool. I love grunge style rock.)

Next we have Saweetie and H.E.R with Closer, now I’m not really the biggest fan of H.E.R, because her music is way too boring usually(which is expected cuz it’s R&B) but she really delivers here, she fits the vibe of the song well, and sounds amazing here. Saweetie sounds really great in the verses to, and the verse are overall really catchy. Now the production here is what really gets me going about this though, it’s very Spring/Summer vibe-ish, and in my opinion it sounds a lot like Kiss me more from Doja cat/SZA. Overall great debut, hopefully it does well here.

Alright so next we have some random Latin song(how surprising) from some artists named Nicky Youre, and Dazy. Now I’m assuming that Dazy just produced this cuz the other guy kinda shouts himself out at the end of this, and given the fact that Hits 1 didn’t even credit Dazy, that just shouts the word producer right in my face, and makes him look like he had nothing to do with this, even though he did. Now this is really good(and I don’t even know where the hell it came from) Nicky Youre sounds awesome here, and I’m loving the production that Dazy did, it’s got that Spring/Summer vibe to it again, and it sounds amazing. The writing is nice and really catchy to. Overall can we please make this a hit, because I’d love if we did Hits 1.

Speaking of songs that are probably going to be made hits. Ugh,  ugh, ugh, ugh,  ugh, ugh, ugh I am really dreading this last debut. Alright so Ed Sheeran released a remix(yeah more like a second version maybe, you can’t call this an actual remix) of a song from his latest album (=) Equals titled The Joker and The Queen, and it features Taylor Swift. Now Hits 1 has been teasing this all week, and quite frankly I’m kinda  surprised that it’s here this quickly. Now I went into this with very high expectations, because in general I have a lot of respect for both Ed and Taylor. They both seem to have really good music lately, especially Ed though, now Taylor’s quality of music I personally think has gone down a lot in the last few years since she released Reputation, but at the same time she brought herself back up with some of the vault tracks that she produced for the re-recorded versions of Fearless, and Red(Taylor’s versions) in fact if y’all remember a few months ago Taylor released a song with Ed called Run, and it was quite heavenly sounding, so when I heard that this was being released I was really excited. Yeahhhhhhh that excitement didn’t last for too long though cuz I came out of this song thinking man what in the actual fuck did I just listen to. Ed Sheeran sounds fucking horrible here, probably the worst he’s ever sounded since I first listened to him, he sounds like his voice is higher pitched here, and it just doesn’t sound like the usual him honestly. Now Taylor sounds kinda good here, but at the same time though this is like the remix of Moral of the story, she just can’t save it from being horrible, and I mean she’s sounded better in other slow songs obviously. Now here’s the parts of the song that I really don’t like though, and that really confuse me. The writing and the production. First off let’s start with the writing. This sounds like they just strung a bunch of verses and a chorus together without anything else attached, there’s no Pre-Chorus or hook here that really pulls me in, and that’s weird because other ballads I’ve heard usually have one, even if they are really slow. Overall it’s just very messy writing to me, and I really don’t like how they switched up the lyrics in Ed’s chorus compared to Taylor’s, it just makes that issue way worse. Now we also have a huge problem with production here. First off it’s boring as all hell. It’s literally a piano and a guitar mixed together, and it doesn’t sound good either. The piano has some nice melodies in the beginning, but It gets worse when Ed starts singing over it, cuz he does not have the type of voice for Piano ballads in my opinion, he works way better with Guitar. Now in Taylor’s verse there is Guitar, but it’s not used in a way I like it, it’s very quiet, and it kinda sounds like a very lazy strum chord if you ask me, and all these elements combined just don’t sound good together. Now with that all being said let’s get to maybe the only good thing I like about this song, and that would be the chemistry near the end, I think Taylor really helps there, but again it’s nothing to save this thing from being horrible. Overall I am shocked to say that this is definitely the worst thing I have ever heard from Ed Sheeran, as for Taylor eh she’s had worse, but she didn’t need to be part of this laziness, so I’m kinda disappointed in that. Overall I am not looking forward to this becoming a thing, because we all knows Hits 1 will make it one.

As for the Hitbound exits this week, we lost Boys don’t cry, which is really in the abyss now, Chosen and Don’t miss me. Chosen really should’ve gotten a chance since it’s a great song, and since it’s becoming a small hit everywhere else. Don’t miss me sucked though and I’m really glad that it’s gone, although they should’ve replaced it with the other new Claire Rosinkranz song that’s way better.

Blurbs

Overall there’s not really much to talk about this week, it was a really solid countdown like last weekends. The only 2 real things to talk about other than the exits are Hits 1s current #1 and my current #1. I think we’ll start with my #1 song, High from The Chainsmokers jumping 7 spots to #19. I can’t say I’m not impressed, because this is amazing. I’m like literally addicted to it, everyone in the Discord already knows that I’m loving this to because I swear everyday in there I’m like oh High this High that High everything. Damn I just cannot get enough of this song, and I’m so glad that Hits 1 is making it a thing, now the only thing that will remotely piss me off at this point about that is that depending on how high The Joker and the Queen debuts(cuz we all know it’s gonna be huge here) and how fast it rises, I could unfortunately somehow see this getting blocked by it for #1, cuz if that song even hits #1 this might be up in the top 5 by that time with how much we all know Hits 1 loves The Chainsmokers, but we all know they love Taylor and Ed to, so I unfortunately see this maybe being it’s competition for #1 if it gets there even. If that does happen I’d be really pissed, but we’ll see what happens. Oh yeah I know some people here don’t quite like Regards music either, but he’s got a new song coming in a week, so that combined with this and the new song from Internet money and 24Kgoldn could even heat up my own personal chart, so stay tuned for the next few weeks on the blog to see what happens here with this, and on my personal chart cuz it’s gonna get interesting.

The other #1 this week is our actual #1 here on the countdown, which is That’s what I want from Lil Nas X. I’ve gotta say I’m still loving this, although it’s off the survey at this point, so I don’t see it staying at #1 for another week, but I mean If Overpass Graffiti or even Message in a bottle hit #1 at this point I really wouldn’t care too too much, cuz knowing how much The Joker and the Queen sucks makes me like both those songs even more, especially Overpass Graffiti  I’d rather take abcdefu over those 2 songs though, because it’s just such a great and really entertaining song, but with our luck I don’t see that happening. Oh well if it doesn’t then hey nice job to Hits 1 anyways for at least getting Nas his first #1.

As for the exits, Need to know was by far  the weirdest and grossest song I’ve ever heard from her, so I’m really glad that it’s gone and that Celebrity skin is on Hitbound. Easy on me had a really great run here and really should’ve hit #1, but was blocked by Shivers. It was getting really old though, now the only downside to it being gone though is that I now have to prepare for The Joker and the Queen to be played while I workout, and how I’m gonna deal with it, because Easy on me I could actually deal with, that song yeah no. Meet me at our spot wasn’t too appealing either, and it wasn’t really a good song for Willow, so I’m glad it’s gone, and Feel like shit was replaced by She’s all I wanna be, which is an upgrade, so I don’t really care that it’s gone, it was starting to kinda fade on me anyways.

#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Internet Money/24Kgoldn-Options

Thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.

Tiesto/Tate McRae(6): Week of April, 29th 2023

Wow, this community is deserted. Why did I leave all of sudden with no word
