Taylor Swift(8): Week of January, 7th 2023

Hello everyone and what’s up? Welcome to the first countdown of 2023. It was very nice, but a bit boring if you ask me. Nothing big happened, and as a result my job was made easier, so yay for that I guess. If you haven’t seen yet I did a catch-up post yesterday in which I reviewed everything I missed over the past 4 weeks. Also my year-end stuff is coming, but as I stated in that last post I’m gonna need some time with 2 rankdowns and ZestPonds Winter Madness(which I’ll link in the comments) so that’s a lot to be put on my plate, but just be patient and they’re gonna come soon. Today is a very great day for me and my city, and it’s a very important one here, so I’ve got a lot to do, might as well get this thing done right now, so without further ado let’s get started with our exits, oh wait we don’t have any, so let’s jump straight into the countdown.

#2 Lil Nas X-Star Walkin(+2)(15 weeks)

#1 Taylor Swift-Anti-Hero(=)(8th really annoying week at #1)(11 weeks)

No debuts this week.

Biggest jump of the week: Rosa Linn-Snap(+6). I’m genuinely  shocked that this song is still here, and that it’s starting to rise again after falling all the way out of the top 20. It isn’t something I really even revisit nowadays, but I still like it a lot, and I’m impressed by its comeback and run here. Let’s see how long they can keep it here for.

Biggest drop of the week: K.Flay-It’s Been So Long, Omar Apollo-Evergreen(You Didn’t Deserve Me At All) & Beach Weather-Sex,Drugs, etc(-3)  Nome of these songs are that great, so I don’t mind them getting the biggest drop. The best one is Sex, Drugs, etc, but it’s still incredibly mid, Evergreen feels so empty and It’s Been So Long is weird, do we really need any of them here? I don’t think so.

Countdown Extra: SZA-Kill Bill

Last years #1 song: Ed Sheeran-Shivers(12/14 long and annoying weeks at #1)

My favorite song from last year: Juice Wrld/Justin Beiber-Wandered to LA

My least favorite song from last year: Amarrae/Moily/Kali Uchis-Sad Girlz Luv Money(Remix)

Hitbound

Ava Max-Weapons

Coi Leray-Players(DJ Smallz 732 Jersey Club remix)(Debut)

Alec Benjamin-Paper Crown

Dove Cameron-Girl Like Me(Debut)

Leah Kate-My Bed(Debut)

Lizzo-Special

Renee Rapp-Too Well

Lewis Capaldi-Pointless

Loud Luxury/KIDDO-These Nights

Joji-Die For You

Martin Garrix/JVKE-Hero

Jordi-Hate You

RAYE/070 Shake-Escapism

Tiesto:Tate McRae-10:35(Re-entry)

Kate Paytavin-Ever Fallen

Regard/Drop-G/A-Sho-No Love For You

Debuts

First things first 10:35 by Tiesto and Tate McRae re-entered this week, and while it has faded on me only to green, I still really like it, and I hope it can do well here and debut just like The Motto did, but if I’m being honest The Motto is light years better than this song, even though it has one of my favorite artists on it. There’s just certain songs that make The Motto less boring and more catchy than this. I most certainly don’t mind it being here though as I still do like it, like I just stated.

Moving onto our first debut of 2023 now, and oh wow, I did not expect such a bad debut right off the bat, but I guess if something bads gonna debut, it’s gonna be incredibly stupid like this first song is. This songs called Players and it’s by Coi Leray, and somehow the remix of this song is somehow going viral and becoming a thing now. I’m not at all a fan of Coi Leray, but I did like Anxiety from about a year ago. This however is not that good. Coi Leray sounds bad here, and the production while resemblent of 2010s dance music, isn’t that good either. The way it switches during the verse is weird and just doesn’t sound right, also the writing here isn’t good either, and it’s super short and very very forgettable, so overall not a great way to kick off Hitbound for 2023.

Next we have Dove Cameron with Girl Like Me, and it kinda took me a while to really grow into Boyfriend, but this on the other hand is way better. Dove sounds alright here, but the production is shied awesome. It’s this nice mix between EDM and rock, and it blends together very well to say the least. The lyrics are alright too, not too catchy or fun, but pretty solid for a Dove Cameron song. Overall this is alright and I wouldn’t mind seeing it become a small hit. Next.

Finally we have our last debut of the week(how surprising) and it’s Leah Kates recent release called My Bed. I’ve like what we’ve heard from Leah so far, aside from Alive & Unwell, so I was looking forward to this, but the day that it came out Apple Music somehow didn’t have it, so I waited and waited and forgot about it actually, but now that it’s here it’s come back to me, and what do ya know, this is actually really great. Ir samples Kylie Minogues hit song Can’t Get You Out of My Head from 2001, and this version is way better than the original if I’m being honest. The sample sounds great here, and I can hear it very clearly. Leah does a great job on vocals and sounds good and the production is very nice and bassey and EDM-ish, which I would not expect at all from Leah Kate. Great song, I really hope this one’s given a shot here.

As for the true first Hitbound exits of 2023, we lost both Tukah Taka(aka Taco Taco, lol) and Used To. I’m really really really happy to see Tukah Taka go, as it was just pure stupidness and as for Used To, I didn’t really see anything special in it, so I don’t really care about it either.

Best Hitbound entrant: Leah Kate-My Bed

The Abyss

The Weeknd-Die For You

Armani White-Billie Eilish

Havana Winter-Hollywood Forever

Avery Anna-Narcissist

Maneskin-The Loneliest

Black Eyed Peas/Anitta/El Alfa-Simply the Best

Rihanna-Lift Me Up

SZA-Kill Bill

Panic at the disco-House of Memories

Here’s what I’m going to say about this abyss…………………………… what the fuck???????????????????????????? Die for you should be on the countdown at this point in time, and so should Billie Eilish, The Loneliest and Simply the best. Lift me Up should be gone, and the other 3 songs make no sense being here. Kill Bill is really the only song here that makes sense and it’s not good.

Since the last time I reviewed the countdown we lost the following songs from this thing, Unstoppable, Power(Remember who you are), If You Ask Me To, Sleepwalking and Don’t Let the Light Go Out. The only one I really cared about was Sleepwalking because it’s grown on me a lot since it left, but other than that I really don’t see anything special in any of these songs,

Blurbs

The only real movements that I noted as being notable were Nobody Gets Me jumping 3 spots to #27 and Creepin jumping 5 to #23. I’m happy to see both these songs rise to new peaks, although more so Creepin cuz it’s just better(I mean come on am I really gonna choose a ballad over a trap song? No) I hope both of them end up becoming big hits here though in all honesty and I wouldn’t mind that at all for both.

Anti-Hero is holding onto #1 for am 8th week in a row this week. It is also blocking my now favorite countdown song from being #1(although when Escapism debuts it’ll likely go in purple). This is starting to get extroridnarully unacceptable, because the song is so mid and annoying. I hear this shit everywhere and I’m getting really sick of it now. Can we please just have Star Walkin hit #1, or I’m Good, I’d even be more than fine with Forget Me getting it. It has to be something other than this though at this point. This song is too overrated now and it has been since the start.

Real quick I’m just gonna shoutout Spyder Harrison. Right before introducing Cuff It this morning he gave a shoutout to Buffalo Bills Safety Damar Hamlin who suffered cardiac arrest this week in what was supposed to be a Monday night football game between the Bills and Cinncinatti Bengals. As a big NFL fan myself having seen that on national TV was super scary and I keep praying that Hamlin gets better(and he is). I just wanted to mention it because I think it’s so nice of Spyder to do that at the request of a fan of Hits 1 and the countdown. That was a great move Spyder and Damar has been and still is in my thoughts and prayers, so go Bills this week, and all the love for Damar, but also go Jags because today is Teal Out Saturday with our division and a trip to the playoffs on the line for us, I hope we win, not only for our city, but also for Damar. Thanks again Spyder you are amazing ❤️💙💜.

#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Sigala/MNEK-Radio(this should be a radio song)

Thank y’all so much for reading and l’ll see y’all in the next one.

" I’m sorry I haven’t been active in a while, I’ve had a rough 2 weeks with schoolwork killing me, someone in my family dyeing and having to put one of my family pets to sleep, so January has been a brutal month for me to say the least. I hope I can get back on my blog soon, but I can’t promise a full return. I will update it at some point soon though. 💜"
