A Hits 1 weekend catch-up post(Taylor Swift, 4-7, weeks of December 10th-December, 31st 2022
Hey guys, what’s up? It’s me again. Long time, no see. I hope y’all had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I’m officially back after a 4 week long hiatus and I’m ready to kick off 2023 feeling truly the best I’ve felt in what feels like a very long time. A lot of you guys already know that last year I was doing so good with reviewing this countdown no matter what happened, and then things changed a bit and I had to miss sometime because I had not 1, but 2 minor strokes and a heart surgery, and then after that I went back to reviewing the countdown as normal, but it just didn’t feel the same, and I think some of it had to do with the music being played on Hits 1 and the other half was me being mentally fucked up a bit just from what happened, plus my added stress from schoolwork didn’t make it any better on myself, so I decided I would take off the last 4 weeks of the year to mentally recoup and spend sometime with my friends and family celebrating the holidays, and it was very very relaxing and with while. I did feel a bit emotional at times, but that was cuz of another thing that I may or may not get into in a bit. Overall it was really nice though, I went to see my family on the west coast, played my first real game of golf, watched my favorite team win a few football games and overall just really great times I spent with my family, although I did get stuck out there for an extra 3 days due to weather and eventually did become super homesick, but that’s alright, cuz now it’s 2023 and I can forget about All the bad stuff that’s happened in the past few months, and move on, so this is new year new me, and I believe we have some new music to review, so let’s get this party started!
#1 songs
Taylor Swift-Anti-Hero(7 weeks at #1)
First thing on our list of things to address. Really? I mean I was kinda expecting this to happen, but come on, this song is so overrated and so is Taylor. I swear I hear this everywhere I go, or I see the chorus to it in messages a read everywhere, and I think it’s just gotten really overplayed and annoying at this point, but it’s still decent because the production is cool and trendy sounding and Taylor sounds somewhat good in this, but come on Hits 1, playing this crap on repeat isn’t gonna get me anymore interested into listening during the day. Can we just have I’m Good or Star Walkin hit #1 please.
Speaking of those 2 songs, as of this week. I’m Good has rebounded to #2, and Star Walkin is now my favorite song on the countdown.
Countdown Exits
Elton John/Brittney Spears-Hold Me Closer
GAYLE/Blackbear-fmk
Lizzo-2 Be Loved(Am I Ready)(3 weeks at #1)
Maneskin-The Loneliest
Rihanna-Lift Me Up
Stephen Sanchez-Until I Found You(x3)
Steve Lacy-Bad Habit
* Hold Me Closer was never a great song, but for the 2 artists themselves it did have a pretty good and somewhat interesting run here.
* I never properly reviewed fmk cuz it didn’t debut the countdown until I was gone, and then it left 2 weeks later on Christmas Eve, but it’s a solid but forgettable song at best let’s go with that.
* Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Good Riddance to 2 be loved, it will most certainly not be missed by me.
* The Loneliest finds itself back in the abyss, which sucks cuz I’m really liking it right now.
* I can’t even believe I even let Lift Me Up into my own chart for 2 weeks, this one’s only good cuz it came from a great movie.
* We finally said,” Bye Felicia.” To Until I Found You, as it left for the third time. It was kinda boring anyways, so I don’t care.
* Last but most certainly not least Bad Habit is gone. You can find all you need to know about why this song rocks in my top 40 songs of 2022 post, but just know it’ll be missed by me very very much, it had a great here though and I’m thankful that it hit the top 10.
Countdown debuts(excluding fmk)
K-Flay-It’s Been So Long(1to watch)
Metro Boomin/The Weeknd/21 Savage-Creepin
Sabrina Catpenter-Nonsense
SZA-Nobody Gets Me
Taylor Swift-Lavander Haze
* It’s Been So Long is kinda weird. It’s very catchy and I like the production, but her voice just ruins the song with that vocal filter. Not a song I’d have as the 1 to watch.
* Creepin is awesome. I really love how Metro Boomin produced this. The beat switched sound amazing and The Weeknd sounds really good here. Savages verse also slaps. I hope this can become a hit.
* Nonsense is a less memorable, but completely fun version of positions. Kinda trendy and nice. Sabrina sounds good and I like the production.
* Despite how boring it is I like Nobody Gets Me. SZA sounds great and the lyrics are relatable a lot, but it is a bit boring in the production department. Could use a remix maybe.
* The most shocking thing that happened was Lavander Haze debuting all the way at #11 with little to no AirPlay at all, and it’s still struggling to get any(what the fuck). This song isn’t good anyways, I’m just not a fan of Taylor Swift anymore, she’s too overrated and none of her music has been all that great since 2017 except for Willow and Message in a Bottle. This definitely bossed her quality is going down. It sounds weird and Taylor just doesn’t sound good on it.
Countdown Re-entries
Omar Apollo-Evergreen(You don’t deserve me at all)
I don’t think I have any words, this song is very very very dull and boring.
Best Countdown debut: Metro Boomin/The Weeknd/21 Savage-Creepin
Hitbound debuts
Kate Paytavin-Ever Fallen
Martin Garrix/JVKE-Hero
RAYE/070 Shake-Escapism
Renee Rapp-Too Well
SZA-Kill Bill
* Ever Fallen has some really nice writing, but I feel like she’s trying to impersonate Dove Cameron a bit too much on it, plus it’s kinda boring.
* While Hero is fat from Martin Garrix’s best songs, it is a really unique collab. I kinda see it as a less good version of Riptide by The Chainsmokers. Garrix did a pretty good job on production and even though I don’t think JVKE fully fits in here, he sounds good enough for a very solid song.
* Escapism is an absolute bop, and you can’t tell me otherwise, every second of it is great from start to finish. Raye sounds great and so does 070 Shake, although she really wasn’t needed. I also just love that outro so much. Great song. Would’ve ended up in purple if No Love for You had left.
* Too Well is a bop, I really like her voice and the production suits her nicely.
* What in the actual fuck SZA? Kill Bill is a really toxic song. Why is it doing well on The Hot 100 even. The lyrics are awful, SZA sounds horrible and the production is, well generic R&B prodoction. No thanks.
Hitbound Re-entries
Loud Luxury-KIDDO-These Nights
Afterparty is way better just sayin,
Best Hitbound entrant: Raye/070 Shake-Escapism
Hitbound exits
Big Time Rush-Paralyzed
David Guetta/Becky Hill-Remember
Isabel LaRosa-I’m Yours
Jung Kook-Dreamers
Oof I am really dreading this first one.
* Alright, so Paralyzed left after a week, and I was utterly devastated when it was gone, and here’s why, so in my initial review I did in my previous post I reviewed this and Pointless by Lewis Capaldi back to back and in that post i mentioned my mind had drifted off to a friend of mine when I heard both of these songs, so it turned out that when I heard both of these songs it was the moment I realized that I have a really big crush on this person I know, and that this song made me think about her a lot, so I got really emotional when it left Hitbound, but I pulled through my emotions later and even though I’ve had really shitty nervous breakdowns and still kinda can’t focus because of this whole crush thing(which I should openly admit is why my year end posts are delayed, because the thoughts were destracting me while I was trying to get them done) I realize that at some point, sometime soon I’m gonna not feel paralyzed myself, kinda like this song says, and I’m gonna have the guts to ask her out, so while it was really sad to see it go(and it’ll suck to see Pointless go to maybe) I realize that what I’m feeling is natural and that this song is helping me get through it all, so great song. I hope it does re-enter because I see myself stanning Big Time Rush in 2023 though, and Paralyzed was serviced to radio, so maybe that’s a good sign. Great song though that I’m never gonna forget.
* Remember was a really cool little song to have trending for a while and it kinda sucks that it didn’t make the countdown honestly.
* I’m Yours sucked, so I don’t care.
* Dreamers finds itself in the abyss, and while it’s not the most radio friendly sounding song production wise, I hope it can stick around, but I don’t think it will for much longer honestly. It’s a very nice song though,
* Shirt by SZA also debuted, but left before Nobody Gets Me debuted Hitbound, but like Kill Bill it wasn’t that special or great.
Someone please comment what they have for The Abyss cuz I’ve completely lost track since I don’t have any recent surveys.
Noteworthy countdown movements
Oh girl, I like you, I do. This song has officially surpassed 30 weeks on the countdown. The last time a song did that was You broke Me First by Tate McRae back in 2021.
Eyes on you by Nicky Youre got a huge boost despite not really being that popular, and sits at #13 currently. Last time I reviewed it, it was at #28, so this is such a nice boost that it got and I’m really enjoying the song right now. It makes me happy and full of joy.
Music for a Sushi Restaurant took some hard falls. Right not it sits at #20 with very little AirPlay. Last time I was here it was still in the top 10. This songs old, so I don’t really care too much.
Cuff it took a ride into the top 15, but then fell to #19. I’d rather this song leave any day now.
I Ain’t Worried continued to fall.
For some reason Super Freaky Girl is starting to rise again. Fuck that shit.
Snap fell out of the top 10 down to the bottom 20, and then rose back up to #16. This songs good but kinda old honestly.
I’m a Mess is at #14. Nice to see, even if it’s not the best song.
Uh Oh jumped and peaked at #11 and currently sits at #12. I kinda forgot this song existed, but ok cool.
Enough, Made You Look and Golden Hour are all in the top 10. I’m fine with Enough and Golden Hour, but Made You Look does not need to be in the top 10, and I don’t care how popular it is, it’s annoying.
I’m Good replaced Million Dollar Baby in the top 5 and is being blocked at #2. Can we just get a new #1 please, cuz 2 weeks ago Star Walkin was #2 like I mentioned before, but now it’s at #4.
Pretty much most of the Hitbound songs I reviewed in this post were played as countdown extras
The #1 song from last year continued to be Shivers of course.
#1 recommendation for Hits 1: Sigala/MNEK-Radio
Alright guys, I think I’m done here. Year end posts will probably be coming very soon, but I am a bit busy this weekend and next week, so they might be on a hold for a short while longer, but until they come out I will be getting out regular countdown posts again every week and will be working on a few rankdowns, so until the next post, which should come tomorrow thanks for reading and I’ll see y’all in the next one.
