Year-end post #1. My top 40 songs of 2022
Hello everyone and welcome to my top 40 songs of 2022. Wow, what a year it has been for music, honestly this year felt very weird for music and radio with all new artists and sounds that I both did and did not like and also artists just being overrated in general both by myself and every other person on planet earth, and I think that over the past year I’ve learned that I am definitely loyal to music and that it’s a passion of mine, and that I have a few new favorite artists who I now love. Some I knew I loved, and others I didn’t, I even found out that my music taste has changed over the years and that even what the radio plays can catch me off guard and not be perfect, but through all the good and bad times of listening to music this past year, and following The Hits 1 Weekend Countdown, I’ve kinda also realized that even if I have to go on big long rants or if I don’t exactly agree with what’s going on in the world musically that it’s all gonna be just fine because as long as I listen to what I want and don’t care about what other people do than I’ll be fine. I didn’t really want to say that because I thought the whole world of music was against me, but after the last few months, I realize that I’m more grateful for other things in life, but that also these 40 songs that I’m about to review are all amazing and the best I’ve heard all year, so without further ado let’s get started with some criteria for songs to make my year end list of 2022.
Here is the criteria for songs to make my top 40 songs of 2022.
1. Any song that I heard from October 1st 2021-September-30th 2022 is up to be on this list.
2. Any song that I’ve reviewed on this blog had to be highlighted either in blue, green or purple.
3. Anything on last years list can’t be included.
4. There may be some Hitbound dropouts included but not a lot.
5. This will be based off a few things. My personal CrownNote leaderboard for 2022, a songs placement on the leaderboard, it’s points, it’s peak on the chart, it’s longevity on the chart, my Apple Music Replay of 2022 and how much I streamed each song and lastly my opinion of each song. All of these combined formed my list of songs for this.
6. One last thing a lot of these songs on this years list were not radio singles, as I kinda grew apart from radio this year for some reasons, but there are also plenty of popular radio songs on here, so a lot of these I’ll be reviewing for the first time on this blog.
Before we get into the list though here are the songs that missed the cutoff date or were really close to missing it and/or because of my rules will most likely carry into 2023 and that I had to cut off the list not as Honorable mentions,
Ava Max-Weapons
Charlie on a Friday-Enough
David Guetta/Babe Rexha-I’m Good(Bkie)
David Morris/Dutton Ranch Freestyle
Drake/21 Savage-Rick Flex
Drake/21 Savage-Treacherous Twins
Galantis/David Guetta/MNEK-Damn(You’ve Git Me saying)
Jxdn-Sober
Lil Nas X-Star Walkin
Quinn XCII/Big Sean-Common
Regard/Drop-G/A-Sho-No Love For You
Shawn Mendes-Heartbeat
Sigala/David Guetta/Sam Ryder-Living Without You
Sigala/Gabry Ponte/Alex Guadiano-Rely On Me
Tiesto/Tate McRae-10:35
Alright with all that out of the way here’s some songs that almost made the list, but just couldn’t make it on.
Honorable Mentions.
Ava Max-Million Dollar Baby-This was very very close to making it onto the list, but because of me having to stop my charts for a month and because of the song most likely carrying over into 2023, it didn’t make it in.
Benson Boone-Ghost Town-Can I get those gum balls Benson???????????? Haha, inside joke. I really came to the realization that I don’t really like ballads as much as I used to. This ballad was pretty good, but there were better songs from 2021 that made the list instead.
Calvin Harris/Dua Lipa/Young Thug-Potion-This was a nice Summer vibe, but there’s better songs off Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2.
Dillion Francis-ILLENIUM/Evan GIIA-Don’t Let Me Let Go-This one wasn’t a popular song(cuz you know it’s EDM and EDM is treated like shit nowadays). I love ILLENIUM’s style of EDM and how it’s a bit more alternative sounding, but still sounds electronic in a way, and this sums that up perfectly, I liked it, but it wasn’t quite good enough to make the cut for the list.
Doja Cat-Vegas-Had I either liked this from the start or didn’t have to stop charting it would’ve made it on the list. Great song though.
Duke & Jones/Louis Theroux-Jiggle Jiggle-I considered this kinda to be a joke of a song, so it didn’t make it on, but it slaps.
Encanto Cast-We don’t Talk About Bruno-This had to grow on me, plus if it weren’t for my endless stanning this song would’ve made it to #1 on my chart, and because of those 2 reasons combined I had to cut it off.
Future-Puffin On Zootiez-Very solid rap song, it just didn’t scream top 40 to me though.
Gayle-Ur Just Horny-Great song, just couldn’t stay on the chart long enough, plus there were more memorable songs.
Gryffin/Jason Ross/Calle Lehman-After You-Had 2 other American DJs not existed I guarantee this would’ve made the list.
Internet Money/24KGoldn-Options-This is a banger, but there were other hangers that were better that made the list, also it was a little too short of a song.
Kx5/Kaskade/Deadmaux5-Escape-Banger, it just didn’t spend enough time on the chart.
Lady Gaga-Hold My Hand-Looking back this song means more to me now than it did when it was on my chart, but again another song off the TopGun Maverick Sountrack was way better.
Latto-Big Energy-This was good, but not good enough to make the list.
Leah Kate-Life Sux-Relatable song, but didn’t scream top 40 to me.
Lil Nas X/Young NBA-Late To Da Party-This was a banger, but it wasn’t meant to be huge and I can kinda understand why.
Tate McRae-Chaotic-I loved this song, but it was just a bit too slow to make the list.
The Chainsmokers-Riptide-There are 7 songs off So Far So Good on my list. The reason this didn’t make it was because I didn’t expect it to be on the chart for long and it wasn’t, it had a really short run and then it left, but when what happened happened 2 months ago I went back to the album as a whole because it calmed my anxiety and stress, and this song did re-enter my chart for a short period of time, but even with its top 5 peak it didn’t stick around for long, and so I decided to cut it off. There’s plenty of other great songs from the album on the list though.
The Chainsmokers-Solo Mission-Copy and paste everything I said about Riptide(also this is a deep cut you should really check it out if you haven’t yet)
The Chainsmokers/Bob Moses-Why Can’t You Wait-This would’ve made it had what happened not happened because I was going to Re-enter it on my chart right when that happened. It just didn’t have enough points on my CrownNote leaderboard to make it in.
Zedd/Maren Morris/BEAUZ-Make You Say-Really awesome song, but it just didn’t make it in.
One last thing, I will be including the length of the chart run, peak on the chart and amount of points earned for each song. Note I will be adding points and weeks for certain songs that were on the chart after I had to take my break from charting, just to make there runs a bit more accurate had they not been stopped.
Alright with all that out of the way let’s get started
#40 Swedish House Mafia/The Weekend-Moth To a Flame(Chart run: 6 weeks)(Peak: #2)(Points: 27.592)
It’s funny to think that I kicked off last years worst list with a Swedish House Mafia song, but this year I’m kicking off my best list with one, and it’s even funnier to think that they were both singles off of Swedish House Mafia’s 2022 album Paradise Again(which was not that good to be honest). This was the best song from that album, but not the best song from The Weeknd’s album Dawn FM in my opinion. I don’t really look back on this song much now, but it is really cool for what it is now that I’m sitting here writing this. The Weeknd is a great vocalist, and he actually fits into the production here really well, and sounds perfect. The production from Swedish House Mafia is very dark, and that helps with his vocals because he’s a vocalist who works very well on dark vibes in particular, the production is also very nice and upbeat. The writing here is also very intriguing and it tells an interesting story of deception, and the first time I heard it I was like,” Woah, that’s dark.” So overall it all just fits together perfectly. Great song and just about great enough to make the bottom of the list, even though I don’t look back on it a ton(guess I’ll have to do that more now). Alright let’s move on.
You know this list wouldn’t be a great list without at least 1 song from The GOAT.
#39 Lil Nas X-That’s What I Want(Chart run: 9 weeks)(Peak: #5)(Points: 28,204)
I really would’ve liked this to be much higher up on the list, but because of the fact that it had already been out for a long time when I started my CrownNote charts, it couldn’t stick around for too long, but for Nas’s first ever #1 song on Hits 1, I liked this a lot, and still really do, although Industry Baby and Star Walkin are slightly better, let’s not lie though all of his songs are awesome, and this is no exception. I really like the production here and how it’s a bit more pop-friendly than some of the sounds of his other songs, and I really like the use of the guitar, and that just helps enhance this by a mile. Nas sounds great throughout here, and even though I do think some of the lyrics are a bit weird in this song, they’re all catchy and they do kinda slap, so overall not a bad choice for a radio single, and for the time it had on my chart, I’m lucky it made the list. Great song and it will never be forgotten by me,
Fun fact about this next song. The music video for it was shot in Kiev Ukraine right before the war with the Russians started and so all the proceeds from the video went to war efforts to help the Ukrainians when this song was released as a single.
#38 Ed Sheeran/Lil Baby-2Step(Remix)(Chart Run: 9 weeks)(Peak: #5)(Points: 28,377)
I think we can all agree here that as much as Ed Sheeran makes great music, he’s incredibly overrated(especially by Hits 1). A cool thing that I found about =(Equals) though is that he really set the quality of his music in a great direction and went out of his usual comfort zone to make great songs. I loved Overpass Graffiti, but had this song not become a single and I wouldn’t have discovered it, I wouldn’t have known that this is one of Ed Sheeran’s best songs. The trap production slaps here, and Ed actually fits in very nicely and I also love how he starts off his verse singing and then once the trap really starts to kick in, in the middle he starts rapping, and he has a good rap voice actually. The acoustics also mix together very nicely into the production, so that’s also nice. I really liked Ed’s second verse in the original version of this song, but Lil Baby’s verse that replaces it in the remix just adds on very nicely. Baby sounds great throughout and he really fits in with the trap. His verse is also kinda catchy. The writing here actually is very fun, but also conveys a great message that maybe we all need some fun with a certain person or group of people sometimes to let our stress go and relax. Nice job Ed, I hope he keeps bringing us great songs in the future.
Next we have a very overplayed song to say the least.
#37 Post Malone/Doja Cat-I Like You(A Happier Song)(Chart Run: 7 weeks)(Peak: #2)(Points: 26.704)
Post Malone is one of the better rappers in my opinion, and this year has not been a particularly great year for rap. This song is the best song I’ve heard from Posty though this year, and I just love that Doja Cat was a part of the fun. It’s not either of their best performances, but it still slaps. Post sounds pretty great here and Doja sounds awesome, and she adds a lot to the mix. The writing is fun and catchy the production slaps here, it’s the best part about the song. The trap beat sounds good and really fun, especially the ending, and overall it just flows very very nicely. Great song, I’d love to see what posty brings us in the future.
I love the sounds of the 80s and you really can’t get much more of that with this artist.
#36 The Weeknd-Sacrifice(Chart run: 9 weeks)(Peak #6)(points: 26,967)
Fun fact this song was co-produced by Swedish House Mafia, who I just reviewed for another song. I wish this had become a bigger hit and that Dawn FM didn’t underperform as hard as it did because it was a great album with some really great songs. This is the best song from the album in my opinion, and there’s many reasons for that. First off, the production is very great sounding, and I love the darker and groovy 80s vibe going on in this song. It flows very nicely with The Weeknd’s vocals and the pace he sings at, it’s set at the right tempo and just fits in together perfectly. The Weeknd sounds great here, and while the lyrics were not too catchy, it was fun and memorable enough for me to place it right here, and I think the rank is well deserved for this song given all of this combined. Let’s move on.
Next kicks off the bottomless pit of songs from The Chainsmokers that made the chart.
#35 The Chainsmokers-Testing(Chart Run: 8 weeks)(Peak: #3)(Points: 26.736)
This is the first of 7 songs off The Chainsmokers 4th album So Far So Good that made its way into the list this year. Every single song off the album slaps, as you’ve probably already seen my review of the original 13 song album, or you’ve heard me endlessly yap about how much I love it. This is one of the many many many many many many EDM songs that radio decided, “ Oh, we’ll just fuck this over.” This wasn’t a single off the album, but once I heard this one I could kinda get behind why radio stations wouldn’t want it. The drop here is very long, way longer than the average drop of any EDM song, and so for that reason this song is really one of the only ones off the album that I consider to be more instrumental than any other song from it. The vocals are literally just a verse, some up-pitched and down pitched vocal chops in the drop and a Willy Wonka Interpolation at the very end, so while this doesn’t really scream radio to me, I’m still pissed that it wasn’t popular at all because it was the third least streamed song off the album I think. I actually saw this one performed live at a Roblox concert I virtually attended and it slaps, but especially when it’s live. If you haven’t checked this out yet, you really should because it just slaps on a whole other level. Now I still thought that there were 6 songs off the album that deserved to be higher than this on the list, but let’s dive into why this song slaps. First off let’s talk about vocals. Drew Taggert sounds great in this song, and he does a pretty fair job trying to use his emotion really well at the beginning, which is something he really does on this album in particular. The lyrics in the beginning really spoke to me as a whole because I connected with it on another level. It’s about how he went through depression and had a really bad drinking problem and got high all the time, and when someone hurts that much and then writes a song about, you have to feel for said person because without connecting to their thoughts you don’t know what they went through, and so this writing really showed me,” wow, he was really fucked up when they wrote this album.” It just connected to me and even though when I first heard this song I had no feelings of depression, later on after my depression kicked in along with the anxiety and stress from my medical stuff, I went back and listened to this song and made that connection again, and it really helped me get over my issues, although they lingered for w while, and I’m alright now and perfectly happy. The interpolation at the end I have no idea how they got permission to use, but a it’s genius addition to the song, and I think it really should’ve boosted its popularity, but sadly that didn’t happen, so oh well. The production on this is also really cool. I could listen to this when I’m in the mood for anything, gaming, relaxing, sleeping. Etc, it’s nice and chilled out in the beginning and I love how long the drop is and the buildup that leads to it, although it’s not the best buildup they’ve ever done. The vocal chops are nice sounding and the lead up to the beat switch is all mixed very well. The beat at the end is very bright and basic, but fits in perfectly with Drew’s vocals and the Willy Wonka quote. Overall, I think I’ve said way more than I needed to say for a song I ranked at #35. Great song.
This wasn’t really a big radio hit, but I thought why not include it cuz it’s awesome.
#34 Alesso/Katy Perry-When I’m Gone(Chart Run: 11 weeks)(Peak: #4)(Points: 29, 639)
Alright, so while I am going to openly admit that I haven’t really liked Katy Perry’s music in the last 2 years, I will say that she has a pretty good voice when it comes to EDM and house music. In 2019 she released 365 with Zedd and I loved it enough that made it to my top 5 of 2019. Her singing voice since then has kinda gone down hill a lot, but I think she still sounds good on this song, and that it brought her back to life a bit for me. She sounds good here vocally, although In parts she does have slight vocal effects on her voice. Alesso’s production is also really cool here, it’s dark, but it’s nice and upbeat and a bit chill, along with it being house, it’s really nice. The buildup is great, and the drop sounds very good. Lyrically, this is also really good and catchy. As for its run on the radio, I wish it had become a bigger hit and had a less weird run on Hits 1, but I think it’s a great enough song no matter how it’s run went. Not much else to say here. Next.
Another EDM song that had another weird run at pop radio.
#33 Kygo/DNCE-Dancing Feet(Chart Run: 7 weeks)(Peak: #2)(Points: 29,664)
Many people probably don’t see this as a song that was that memorable, but for someone who’s a big fan of Kygo, I for one see it as the best song off his new album(the other songs weren’t too memorable honestly). This really should’ve hit #1 on the chart, but just because of timing(and a certain other song blocking it) it didn’t. It came very close though, and had it hit #1, it definitely would’ve been ranked much higher on this list. This is still a great song though. Even for the weird run it had everywhere. Kygo did a really nice job on the production, it’s upbeat, it sounds very joyous and it’s overall got a really nice groove to it. I especially love the use of the trumpets. Joe Jonas did a very nice job on vocals here, and he sounds the best he’s ever sounded in my opinion, and lyrically it’s got great and fun lyrics that work with the melody’s very well, and while the instrumental is joyous, I see the lyrics here as kinda begging or anxious in a way, but it’s alright because it makes the upbeat and joyous melody’s even more fun, and the way they wrote the chorus makes it sound great, overall not a bad song, I wish it became bigger on radio.
Are you sick of the never ending amount of EDM songs you’re already seeing on this list? Well if you are then you’re in luck with these next 2 songs. Next.
#32 Avril Lavigne/Blackbear-Love It When You Hate Me(Chart Run: 8 weeks)(Peak: #3)(Points: 29,821)
I was a bit surprised that Bite Me didn’t become a hit, since it was the lead single off of Love Sux, but what I later learned is that this song is better and far greater than Bite Me, so I didn’t really care in the end. Every time I would hear this on Hits 1, I’d love it even more, and I’m very happy with the top 3 peak it received on the weekend countdown. This song was underrated everywhere else, but it deserved to be a much bigger hit and here’s why. The production sounds amazing that Barker did, and I really like the transition from drum beat to trap beat in Blackbear’s verse. It sounded awesome. Avril sounds very great here on the vocals and way better than she did in Bite Me. Her voice fit with the melody’s of this song way more, and that’s great. Blackbear sounds great in his verse and he fits in well with the little trap beat that goes along with it, but he also sounds great when him and Avril have chemistry in the second and third chorus. The bridge is also pretty enjoyable and it ultimately builds up to a great final chorus. The writing here is also very interesting and kinda makes me think a bit about,” what if I was in a relationship like the one described here.” It’s just an interesting spin on things. Overall, great song and I’m happy it gave Avril at least some success. Next.
Last year Tate McRae was my most streamed artist of 2021 and brought 3 songs to the chart, but unfortunately she could only bring us 1 this year.
#31 Tate McRae-She’s All I Wanna Be(Chart Run: 9 weeks)(Peak: #3)(Points: 29,398)
Alright, so this is the 1 and only song from Tate McRae that’s on this list, after she had 3 songs last year including last years #1 song, so why did she not end up with more songs on the list, or at least a higher position for this song? Well first things first, I love Tate, but I didn’t really think her album was anything too special besides the singles off of it(like this one). She has an amazing voice and is so incredibly beautiful for a young woman and I’m such a big fan of hers, but I felt as if the majority of the album did not fit in with my chart or my taste in music, so I only really listened to the singles, and this one is honestly the best one, not even Feel Like Shit could beat this song, despite how beautiful it is. This just took everything I knew about Tate and transformed it into something new. I love the production here, it feels more punk-rockish and has a really awesome vibe to it. Tate sounds amazing here as she always does, and even though the lyrics are very girly, I think they’re catchy and that they connect with people and that’s probably why it was chosen to be a single, you can see it kinda connected with me because it sorta did, but in a different way. It was just so catchy and interesting. I also got to hear it live and it rocked. The reason it ended up this low though is because it kinda burned me out after a while of hearing in on radio, but that doesn’t make this song bad at all. Great song from the amazing Tate, and I am most certainly looking forward to what she has to come in the future.
I almost ended up doing a review of Calvin Harrises album Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2, but I never got around to it, there were 2 really great songs off the album that made the list though and here is the first one.
#30 Calvin Harris/Justin Timberlake/Halsey/Pharrell-Stay With Me(Chart run: 6 weeks)(Peak #2)(Points: 28,706)
Ok, so while I will admit that I liked Funk Wav Bounces Vol 2 very much, I only thought a few songs from it stuck out(all of them being the singles). This one wasn’t the best single off the album, as I’ll review that later, but this is a really good song, although I did forget about it for a while after it left my chart. I still find it to be great though. The funk production from Calvin Harris is really great on this song, and it reminds me a lot about 80s style funk production. It sounds great and it goes well with all 3 of our vocalists here. Justin Timberlake sounds great here and fits in very well, Pharrell does an amazing job on the pre-chorus and while Halsey doesn’t sound the best she’s ever sounded vocally, I still think that her contributions on the chorus and on the backup vocals of Timberlake verse are totally fine. The writing is memorable and fun and overall I love the summer vibe ir gives off. Had I not completely forgotten about it because of a certain other song it would’ve been way higher on this list, but oh well it is what it is. Let’s move on.
Imagine Dragons seemed to make a comeback in 2022, and while this song wasn’t a hit off Mercury Act 2, I thought it was a great enough song to make the list.
#29 Imagine Dragons-Sharks(Chart Run: 8 weeks)(Peak: #3)(Points: 32,009)
Ok, so as to why radio didn’t make this a thing and instead decided to make both Enemy and Bones things I have no clue, but Enemy wasn’t that great(although not as bad to not make my worst list) and while Bones is a great song and awesome single choice, I thought this was much better and that when both were released as singles, this should’ve been the one that became popular and not Bones. Let’s dive in first with the production, it’s upbeat and while very basic, it fits Imagine Dragons style very much unlike the production in Enemy. Dan Reynolds voice sounds really good with this and I like the fact that he doesn’t scream here, nor does he have any down pitched vocals unlike in Bones(because Remember this is Alt-pop we’re talking about not EDM) and it just makes this song sound less weird with those things being absent here. The writing is really great in this though also. This was released at a time where I realized I really didn’t like The Weekend Countdown nor the charts mainly because they weren’t picking up on what I liked, nor did they really have anything too memorable for me to like. A lot of the songs were getting a bit old and overplayed by then, and the lyrics of this song I feel kinda played a relatable joke on how countdown runs went. The use of the phrase,” So let it go, let it go, that’s the way that it goes, first your in them your out everybody knows.’ Kinda showed me that maybe not all songs are meant to have long runs on the charts(and this is mainly pertaining to what I was listening to all throughout the Summer, where I just started listening to a lot of EDM and less radio music) so as I kept listening to this song, I kinda calmed my anger with radio down a bit by repeating that phrase from the chorus of this song in my head. Now In reality the writing of this song means way more than what it did to me, it pretty much means that not everyone in life is going to be friends with you or share your opinions, and maybe if you just let that be, than you’ll be fine just the way you are, or at least that’s how I interpreted it. I think it’s great writing and it really made me think about sone of my anger towards the charts, and it sorta helped me get over it(but not too much because I still had to go on rants). Overall great song though and I wish it were bigger,
For the first time in a long time on this chart we see a song that actually was a trend and actually made a difference on the charts.
#28 Em Beihold-Numb Little Bug(Chart Run: 10 weeks)(Peak: #6)(Points: 32,588)
I have genuinely no clue why this song was as popular as it was, but I love it. Em Beihold did a really great job promoting the EP this song came off of and even though I didn’t check it out in full, I really should’ve because this ended up being a really nice addition to my chart. I did think that this song was weird at first, but after I heard it a few times it just naturally grew on me a lot, and then once it got very popular on Hits 1, it did slightly fade on me, but this is honestly one of the best songs to hit the mainstream in 2022(besides a bunch of others that I’ll go over later on in the top 20). Em Beihold(whoever she is) sounds great here and I actually really like the production, despite how weird I wanted to think it was in the beginning. The writing is the greatest thing about this though, it’s not only very catchy, but it’s very relatable and when life got stressful with schoolwork and other things when this was popular(so before the really bad stuff happened) it relieved me of my stress and was one of those bright songs I’d use to escape. I really like how it was written where you don’t really get the context of the title of the song until the very end where she says,” Do you ever get a little bite tired of life? Like your not really happy, but you don’t wanna die, like a numb little bug that’s gotta survive, that’s gotta survive.” While I thought the ending wasn’t really needed to this song, it was really nice at the same time though because when she sang that one phrase it made me feel very connected to the writing and song as a whole. I kinda realized that maybe I was a numb little bug that thought I wasn’t gonna be able to get through my schoolwork and stress, but listening to the song helped me realize that maybe I’m also more than that, and that I could get through anything. It didn’t end up higher because it got a bit annoying and overplayed on Hits 1, since I was listening to them all the time when it was popular, but perfectly great song. I wonder if she’ll ever get another hit after this.
I’ve loved Justin Beiber over the last year, and next is the first of 2 of his songs from last year that didn’t make it onto 2021’s list.
#27 Justin Beiber-Ghost(Chart run: 9 weeks)(Peak: #3)(Points: 32.556)
Justice was a great album with some very nice writing from Beiber, and of course Stay was also a smash hit. When this was first released back in 2021, I didn’t really like it, but the more I heard this, the more it started to really grow on me, and by the time it had become a hit and both Stay and Wandered to L.A started to fade out and fade in(for the latter) I started to really love this. First off, Beiber sounds great here and he uses his vocal power very nicely on this and puts more emotion into it than in a lot of his older songs, and I could really tell that when he hit those higher notes particularly in the chorus, The production is basic, but it fits nicely with the writing and pace of Beibers singing, and so I kinda found myself grooving to it at times. The lyrics here though are great, they’re very relatable and they made me look back on memories I had with some people in my life who I’ve either lost a relationship with or who have died, and it was great for me to listen to this and look back on my life and think about them. Overall really great song, I wish it had hit #1 on Hits 1 though.
Let’s go with a legendary EDM song from a legendary band next that should’ve become a legend, but got fucked over(This ones for you HrishK Music).
#26 Black Eyed Peas/Shakira/David Guetta-Don’t You Worry(Chart Run: 9 weeks)(Peak: #4)(Points: 32,661)
Where to start, where to start? I’ve always loved BEP’s music ever since I was a kid, and they’re one of the few groups that were around during my childhood that I still have a ton of respect for, now with that being said this isn’t their best song, and it’s very far from it, but it is undoubtedly awesome. I’m very surprised that David Guetta was the one who ended up producing this one, actually because it doesn’t really sound like his usual style of production in my personal opinion, he went all out of his comfort zone for this, and it payed off well because it sounds quite good for a EDM party song, The Peas sound great here vocally, and Shakira doesn’t have the best vocals in the chorus, but she does a pretty well job on backup vocals and she sounds great in the verses, so I give her a pass for the chorus. The writing is also very positive and it sounds very much care free and like every other BEP song, it sounds like a party starter, so all in all another great song from them, the only reason it didn’t make it higher than this is because at one point I did get really burnt out from this, but that’s alright because this is a well deserved honor for what feels like a very very underrated song(I wish it had gone farther on Hits 1)
All I will say next is get ready for the gimmicks.
#25 Charlie Puth-Light Switch(Chart Run: 11 weeks)(Peak: #4)(Points: 32,715)
Here we have what was the big return of Charlie Puth for the first time in 2 years, and I heard this a lot on Hits 1 cuz they stan him and had to make this #1 for just one week. I for one think that Puth is getting better at making music though and that thought all started with this song. The production is this cool 80s sounding vibe that reminds me a lot of Stay from Laroi and Beiber, and it sounded great here, and now heres the great part about that, the light switch sound and gimmick was a genius addition to this, it added to the catchiness of the song and the production both and it made it sound great mixed it. Puth does a very great job here vocally, and while I kinda thought the writing was weird the first time I heard this, I came to realize that it’s actually very catchy and relatable and I kinda thought about my friends whenever I heard this song, and how they turn me on and make me feel great whenever we’re together. Great song for the year end best list,
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha I Remember in Summer Madness we had a house song beat last years #24 from Olivia Rodrigo.
#24 Regard/Years & Years-Hallucination(Chart Run:10 weeks)(Peak: #3)(Points: 36,287)
The thing that this song is famous for here is what I just said, it beat Olivia Rodrigo’s Drivers License in my Summer Madness tournament(which unfortunately never got finished) and so I think this song will always go down in history because of that, and for that I’d like to say thank you people who love house music in this community, you did a great job with this one. Anyways, so everyone knows that Regard had my #1 song last year, and that didn’t happen this year unfortunately, but at least I know that any song of his I’m pretty much guaranteed to like. This song is great. Regard did a great job on this production, although it doesn’t sound a ton like all of his other songs, and while that’s fine and all, I really like whatever sounds he mixed together in Ride It and No Love for You, but despite this not sounding exactly like those, this is still great. The production is nice and bassey and has that Spring/Summer vibe that I like. Olly Anderson does a pretty great job here vocally and I absolutely love the writing about meeting someone who you like that’s totally sassy because I’ve met tons of people who are like that, so I feel super relatable to this, it’s got that spicy vibe to it lyrically and that makes it interesting. Nice little house song for a nice addition to the list.
The next 3 songs are former #1s from my chart, but they did not have long runs compared to stuff that made the top 20, so for that reason they ended up being a bit lower than I wanted, but that’s totally fine. We’re starting with a guy I would’ve loved to see in concert.
#23 Shawn Mendes-When Your Gone(Chart Run: 8 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 1 week)(Points: 37,715)
Ok, so this is going to be the part where I’m going to admit that no song on my chart this year had a really perfect run, this song hit #1, but only was on for 8 weeks, in fact there’s a few #1s that are coming up that had less than that, but keep in mind that this is mostly an opinion and streaming dominated chart, and for this song it just fell short by just a bit from the top 20, because I got a bit too much burnout from this song when it became a bigger hit than I thought it would, so while I applaud radio for that, it kinda made my opinion change on this thing because I thought it would end up much higher here, but there’s also other songs that I thought were a bit better to place higher than this also(Remember there’s still 6 songs from The Chainsmokers that are still not here) as for Shawn though I love all of his music and this was a smasher. He sounds great here vocally, and I especially love when he screams in the second chorus because it makes him sound so good. The production is cool and chill and it fits Shawn’s voice very nicely and the writing about bis breakup is very relatable, but ultimately even though I loved this, Camilla’s breakup song was much better and that’ll be much higher up on the list. Great song from Shawn though and I can’t wait for new music to come from him.
Underrated artist alert underrated artist alert. I love this next song.
#22 Ava August-Living Room(Chart Run: 7 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 1 week)(Points: 34,608)
Technically this shouldn’t be nearly as high up on this list as it is, but recently this song has come back to me, so that’s why it ranked so high. Ava August was a top 10 contestant recently on America’s Got Talent, and my buddy Daniel from the Hits 1 Discord found her and showed me this song, so shoutout to him. This is a great song, Ava sounds amazing and very emotional here, she hits high notes very well also. The writing is about her imagining about falling in love with this guy she sees at a party, although she’s too nervous to ask him out, and given the fact that she’s only 16 years old, it honestly feels like such a good and surreal teenage pop song, and that’s nice. The production here is very nice and fits the vibe well to, although it is a bit slow and calls for an upbeat ballad type song, so it kinda hindered me to leave it down here and out of the top 20, but despite that, great song and I hope she blows up soon because she’s quite talented.
Everyone this next song is my unofficial LOP of 2022
#21 Calvin Harris/Charlie Puth/Shenseea-Obsessed(Chart run: 6 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 1 week)(Points: 30.612)
There’s reasons as to why this song in particular ended up coming in this high and yet it barely missed the top 20, it’s awesome and a bop. Calvin Harris did an amazing job producing this, I love the funk style production he uses and it sounds even better here than it does in Stay With Me, it’s nice and bright and it gives off a fantastic summer vibe, it also kinda sounds like waves are crashing down whenever I listen to this, but that’s just a me thing. Charlie is down-pitched here, but only partially, and it takes his voice and makes him sound even more amazing because he already has a very deep natural voice, so the effects on his voice make him sound greater naturally. Shenseea also brings a spicy addition on her verse, it’s catchy and a very nice addition, plus she sounds good. The writing is also very catchy and interesting about being obsessed with someone, even though you’ll never be with them, and I like that writing. Great song that barely missed the top 20.
By this point you’re probably starting to realize that I ordered most of this chart according to my opinions, and that really played a role in how I ended up ranking the top 20, as there are many former #1 and #2 songs in the top 20. The next 20 songs you’ll see had longer chart runs than the first 20(although some were still shockingly short) anyways let’s continue now with a song about change at #20.
#20 The Kid Laroi-Thousand Miles(Chart Run: 12 weeks)( peak: #2)(Points: 38,936)
The Kid Laroi has been one of my favorite artists since last year, when 2 of his songs ended up in my top 10 songs of 2021, but this year this was his only major release. This is a very great song, although it’s not totally what I expected it to be. I was hoping for more along the lines of Stay for a decent sized radio hit this year, but this is still great. The trap beat sounds amazing and it’s mixed very well with the guitar strums. The vibe is very dark and depressing, but with a trap beat you can kinda except that sometimes, especially when it comes to Laroi, an artist who talks a lot about change and relationships in his music. I really like his music because of that one fact, and this is no exception. The lyrics here he wrote about going back to his past relationships and saying how he’d want to learn to change from them, even though he can’t and he wants his people from the past to stay away from him if they can’t accept that he won’t change. People may interpret this differently based on their beliefs, but I for one think it’s great writing. Talking about change is a very hard thing to do, and I find it very relatable because sometimes I think I need to change, although I don’t because I know I’m good just the way I am, even though I’m not a perfect person, and personally if I were Laroi I wouldn’t want people to hate me for who I am, so this speaks to me a lot. Laroi sounds great here also, and it’s also very catchy and kinda a lil bop. Funny story, back over the summer me and my friends heard this on The Pulse, and we were singing it, but instead of saying,” your coming my way, your coming my way tonight.” We joked and replaced the like with,” your coming my face, your coming my face tonight.” And for some reason I just thought it was the funniest fucking thing, why, I have no clue, but after that I never got over this song, even though at that time it was really close to falling off my chart. Anyways I hope I could give y’all a little laugh with that joke, let’s move on.
Y’all know how I say I don’t like sexual music right?
#19 Megan Thee/Stallion/Dua Lipa-Sweetest Pie(Chart run:13 weeks)(Peak: #4)( Points: 39,709)
Undoubtedly this is the most sexual song on my best list, and I bet everyone here is surprised it made it on given the fact that I generally don’t like sexual music(and trust me this shit is sexual) but certain songs turn me on if they have a really good melody and are just fun, and this would be one of those fun guilty pleasures of mine. The trap beat slaps here, and it sounds fantastic with both artists vocals. Megan does a great job the verses and has some great flow and a nice voice. Dua Lipa does a great job on the chorus, even though she’s sounded better throughout her career, but she does prove here that she can fit in on a trap song, and I love that. She also does the second verse and boy oh boy do I like it, and that’s specifically because some of the lyrics(,” I’m so high that I’m on another altitude.”)(y’all know what reference this is referring to probably) but looking at the writing all in all though and not on one specific verse, it is quite sexual and gross, but this is just written in such a fun and catchy way that I really don’t care about that. This is one of the sexual songs that I actually quite like. This was also just an exciting team up to listen to, so overall great song for the top 20.
She’s that bitch, she’s been that bitch and is still that bitch and will forever be that bitch, but she’s not Megan Thee Stallion
#18 Lizzo-About Damn Time(Chart Run:12 weeks)(Peak:#2)(Points: 44,706)
This song had a great run on Hits 1, and was the first song in 10 years to hit #1 by a solo black female artist(man they are really racist over there. Just kidding) this song had an amazing run though there, and is one of the biggest radio hits of the year, but it failed to hit #1 on my chart(and you all probably know who blocked her) all things set aside though this is an absolute bop and a half, unlike 2 Be Loved, which I don’t like at all. Lizzo sounds great throughout this song, and the production is very basic, but it’s funky sounding and very well mixed. The writing is great and very catchy too, especially when she sings,” Okay, Okaaaaaay, it’s about Damn time.” In that bridge, but the rest of the writing is just so fun and affectionate and it’s what I’d expect to hear from Lizzo, so I hope she keeps making more songs like this in the future. Nice one for the top 20.
I’ve learned this year that I love Khalid’s voice, and on this next song he combines it with that really nice Spring/Summer vibe that I like.
#17 Khalid-Skyline(Chart run: 8 weeks)(Peak: #2)(Points: 38,839)
My love for Khalid’s voice started really changed and going in the upward direction after I heard New Normal, and even though Present wasn’t the most memorable song, this one is awesome, and a big improvement for him. I like his more trappy songs from 2018 and 19, but I really think that his voice specifically works better on nice bright pop songs like this. The production is a bit basic sounding, but I absolutely love the bright Spring/Summer vibe it gives off. It’s nice, it’s upbeat and it’s perfect for a summer road trip. The lyrics go well with the vibe to, in fact the moment I added this to my playlist was right before I got on an airplane to fly to California, and when I listened to this on my flight I was like,” oh yeah, this is so good.” The lyrics are so fun and catchy here and I love Khalid’s voice, he sounds great over this new production and he really brings his vocal powers I feel in the verses especially, and overall it just sounds great. I think I’ve said enough about this one. Next.
Here we go again with The Chainsmokers.
#16 The Chainsmokers-Maradona(Chart Run: 11 weeks)(Peak: #4)(Points: 35,835)
So when So Far So Good came out and I was hearing all of the previews for the songs, I got confused between this one and Cyanide, this was one my most anticipated songs off the album, although at the time I thought that this was actually the previously mentioned song(which by the way is higher on this list) this song is fantastic though in every way, shape and form. I love the production in this one, it starts out with this tropical beat that eventually turns into a more trappy beat, and then at the very end it turns into a really bassey beat, so overall there are 3 beats used here and 2 beat switches. The drops sound great, and even though the down pitched vocals are slightly weird here because you can’t tell what the fuck the rapper they recruited is saying(some guy named Fatman scoop) I for one still think they sound good because of the down pitching. Overall really nice evolving production from them that is both dark and bright at the same time and also has a summer vibe to it. Drew Taggert does a great job on this vocally, and he sounds very much improved on this than on some of their older songs, and even though he does have some vocal effects here in the bridge and in the outro, it still doesn’t make him sound bad. Something really cool I’ll talk about though on this song is the writing. This song is about imagining that your life was different, and what it would be like if it were fictional, would you like someone new? Would you do something different? Would you be the same person you are now? That’s what this is all about, and something I did personally that was really cool was I titled a little writing portfolio I did for a creative writing class over the summer,” If my life was fiction.” Which is the hook line used in the beginning and bridge of this song, and I did that because listening to this song while taking that class and thinking about my writing while doing it made me feel a connection to this song in a way that was a bit different. I consider this a special song because of that, and for the record I also had a dream where I was a drummer for The Chainsmokers around the same time I started loving this. Overall great song from Drew and Alex, and it will definitely live on for me.
This next song is legendary, in the sense that it samples something legendary.
#15 Yung Gravy-Betty(Get Money)(Chart Run: 10 weeks)(Peak: #2)(Points: 36,066)
I will give this to Yung Gravy and his production team, they were absolutely GENIUS for writing and producing this song. The Rick Ashley sample of Never Gonna Give You Up here is just amazing and contributes to the flow of the song as a whole very well, and it mixes in great with the trap beat. I love how you can even hear Rick Astley singing in the background throughout this whole thing. Gravy has great flow here and keeps up with the sample and pace of the song very well, and I love his deep voice. The lyrics are catchy and very interesting and I love how he rewrote the melody as his own here and kinda used it to keep a positive vibe to this.
Up next is the soooooooooooooooong of the suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuumer,
#14 Nicky Youre/Dazy-Sunroof(Chart Run: 12 weeks)(Peak: #2)(Points: 36,609)
I GOT NY HEAD OUT THE SUNROOF, AND I JUST SAVED YOU, FROM HARRY THE F UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UHI UH UH UH CK ING CLOWN. F UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH UH fucking clown. LMFAO. I’m so excited to hear something from a brand new artist and have it become a hit, I mean this is amazing for such a young and new artist, and that’s why it’s here at #14. Nicky Youre has a great voice, and he showcased it pretty well here. He sounds great, and he fits the nice bright vibe really well. I have no clue who Dazy is(does any other radio station even credit him?), but I’m guessing he was the one who produced this song, and if that’s true, then he did great. It’s bright and fun and fit for a really nice and fun summer time. The lyrics in this one are also very catchy and nice, and I can see how it’s both relatable with talking abokt soneone he likes, and how it feels so bright and care free and fun all at the same time. Great song, and I’m really glad it actually became a #1 hit.
Another Summer vibe is comin our way next.
#13 Marshmello/Khalid-Numb(Chart Run: 9 weeks)(Peak: #2)(Points: 35,327)
Your probably wondering why this ended up so high up on the list with such a short chart run and a lot fewer points, and I’m gonna admit that this should’ve been in my top 10, but it didn’t end up there because it didn’t have the best chart run. Had I had to not stop charting in October, I think this would’ve re-entered the chart though and maybe hit #1 and that’s because Hits 1 had it in power rotation for a while, and I started really enjoying it again when it hit its peak on the countdown, ultimately though while it did fall short of a top 10 ranking, there were better songs in the actual top 10, and that doesn’t mean it isn’t an awesome song. I still look back at this song today and think,” I love this.” And it’s true because it’s just a great summer vibe. The house beat here that Marshmello produced is great and bright and has really awesome buildup. The drop sounds great, and the instrumental just sounds greatly mixed overall. I love Khalid’s voice here too, he does a great job here and sounds better than he does in Skyline. The writing is very great here to, it’s very fun and catchy and it’s just a great song that I can’t seem to get out of my head at times. Great Summer vibe, and I wish it had hit #1 on the countdown, but oh well.
ALERT ALERT ALERT THE NEXT 2 SONGS ARE FROM YOU KNOW WHO ALERT ALERT. 💜
#12 The Chainsmokers-iPad(Chart rum: 7 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 2 weeks)(Points: 43,289)
This is song #3 off So Fat So Good that made the chart, and it had the weirdest run ever on this chart, and that’s just due to it not being a hit, but also the timing of when the album came out because when I dropped this from the chart the album was almost here, so I was getting ready for that. This isn’t the best off the album, but it’s an amazing song that I still listen to a lot today. This is in reality I think one of their best executed songs, the production on this song just evolves very well, and every sound used here is mixed in very nicely. Drew Taggert sounds great over this production, and he uses his emotion very well here. The writing is also very relatable and interesting, it’s about how someone wants to get back in a relationship with their ex, but can’t because they’re strangers again, and that was supposed to be the title of this song actually instead of the name it got, however I do find the opening line very interesting, like why would you wanna look through someone iPad, come on Drew(literally only line I’ll ever criticize this guy for writing, lol) besides the sorta weird line though, this is perfectly deserving of a ranking this high, and I really really really wish it became a hit. Next.
Oh hey look what’s next, only the most underrated and least streamed bop from So Far So Good, well technically second least.
#11 The Chainsmokers-Cyanide(Chart Run: 11 weeks)(Peak: #3)(Points: 39,229)
Ok, so chances are if your reading this right now you’ve probably never listened to this song, or have ever had the thought of listening to it given it’s name, but let me tell ya, as toxic as real Cyanide is, this song doesn’t bite at all, in fact it slaps. This is one of those really deep cuts that they never perform their shows, and that isn’t really popular, in fact I’m pretty sure that only OG fans like myself love this song given how unpopular it is, but if you really think about it, if you like I Love U, then you’d easily like this song, as it’s pretty much the exact same sounds and drum lines, just put into different chords, and slathered with some vocal pitches in the background and a big long outro, with of course different lyrics. The production here evolves really well, it starts off very chill and then just gets better as the song goes. The outro is really cool, it’s pretty much a minute and 20 seconds of up pitched vocal chops that turn into some really weird sounding thing like a fax machine running in a background, but and then this tropical beat comes in at the very end of this, and it’s very greatly mixed with what sounds like raindrops or teardrops, and at the end there’s this up pitched voice that says,” Do you feel, do you feel, I feel good real bad.” After that it fades out, and that’s pretty much the outro to the original album, so after all that yammering about the outro though I’m assuming you’d like some thoughts on the vocals, well once again Drew sounds great here, although he does have a very minor vocal filter on his voice in parts, but like in every song from them, I don’t think it makes him sound bad or anything. The writing here is really interesting to, it’s about this person who wants to get even with her ex, but he doesn’t want that cuz it’ll make him feel bad inside, and that’s a very relatable feeling, that everyone including myself can probably tell you they’ve experienced. One other really nice thing about this though is that I kept listening to this one repeatedly during my medical struggles a few months ago, and it was such a calming feeling and It calmed me down a lot because it’s such a good downbeat song, but I especially love that last line coming back to it, because at that time I really wanted to feel good mentally, but I felt bad, I was stressed, anxious and a little depressed, and sometimes it still lingers today, so that last line helped me realize that maybe I wanna feel good, but feel bad at the same time. I don’t know it’s weird how certain songs can do that to you. Anyways great song and defiantly check it out if you haven’t yet, one of the best off the album(although there’s 3 more to go).
We have officially made it to my top 10 songs of 2022, these were all the songs that I kept on constant repeat throughout the year, and that slapped than the many others I have on this list, and they’re all special in their own ways. We’re kicking off with a rock song, and fun fact this song never made it to the top 5 on my chart and therefore this was the lowest peaking chart song on this list.
#10 Maneskin-Supermodel(Chart Run: 15 weeks)(Peak: #7)(Points: 44,131)
I usually wouldn’t like modern day alternative, but as a guy who does like modern pop-punk music, and older alternative and metal, I realize more that I really like Maneskin’s style of music. I loved both Beggin and MAMMAMIA, but this is their best song in my opinion. It gives off a very much Nirvana-like vibe, and if you’ve ever heard Nirvana than you can definitely hear the resemblance in this song to their music. It’s got a great 90s rock vibe and it’s nice and chill. The production evolves very smoothly, and Maneskin’s vocalist fits it perfectly, and sounds great throughout with the pace and flow of the song. The writing is also very great, it’s very resembling of many 90s rock songs, and the lyrics weee written in a very catchy way. Great song to kick off the top 10, and I’m definitely looking forward to what they have in store for us in the future,
This next song is the ultimate,” Fuck You.” Anthem,
#9 GAYLE-abcdefu(Chart Run: 12 weeks)(Peak: #3)(Points; 47,349)
A lot of people in modern day society(mainly old ones) would probably think this song is complete garbage, but it’s not at all, and I’m gonna tell you why, This is pretty much the ultimate,” Fuck You.” Anthem like I said above, it’s got a ton of appeal to it, and I can very much see why after hearing it a million times on Hits 1. The lyrics are written in this alphabetical way in the chorus where she sings,” A, B, C, D, E, FU, and your mom and sister and your job and your broke down car and that shit you call art.” And while it may sound very toxic(and it kinda is) there’s this appeal to it that says, “ hmmmmmmmmm but if I were pissed off at my ex, would I write the same thing? Probably.” Sometimes there’s that 1 person in your life who you hate and you’re just like,” fuck this person.” And everyone can relate to that, whether or not it be an ex, or a friend you lost, or someone else, whoever that person may be in someone’s life, I think if people really listen to this they can get their negative energy for that person out of their system, and get over them. I personally don’t have a person like that in my life and didn’t when this song came out a year ago, but I think the writing here says something relatable to how people can feel, and aside from being catchy as all fuck, that’s why this was so popular. GAYLE sounds amazing for a 17 year old singer, and the production here is also nice and sorta pop-punkish if you think about it, and it fits her voice very very well. Relatable and entertaining jam that I still enjoy to this day, and thank you radio for showing the world what it is.
I didn’t like many ballads this year, this is literally the only one I loved.
#8 Lauren Spemcer-Smith-Fingers Crossed(Chart run: 12 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 1 week)(Points: 50,180)
I found out my taste in music changed rapidly this year because I used to love ballads all the time a few years ago, but this year, nope, I found out I hated ballads this year, but this ballad is really one of the only exceptions to that. As a new artist, I wasn’t very high on my expectations when I first heard this, but once I finally did I was shocked at how good it was. Lauren has a really great and powerful singing voice, and as some people think she’s over singing in the chorus, I for one do not, I think she uses her vocal powers perfectly throughout this song, but especially in the chorus. The production here, while yes it is a bit boring because ya know it’s a ballad, is actually really nice though to since it has the acoustic snaps mixed into the guitar. The lyrics here are also very interesting and pretty memorable for a ballad, which I was surprised at, not much else to say about this, just a very solid ballad.
Remember how earlier I said,” Camilla Cabello’s breakup song was much better and much higher up on the list than Shawn’s was?” Well,
#7 Camilla Cabello/Ed Sheeran-Bam Bam(Chart Run: 13 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 1 week)(Points: 50,293)
Camilla Cabello has always been one of my favorite singers, both when she was with Shawn and before she started dating him, and both of them are the reason that Señorita ended up being my #1 song of 2019, they’re both great vocalists, but skip forward 3 years, they’re broken up now, and obviously I was wondering how they’d write their music after that. This year they both came out with breakup songs in response to the breakup, and I’m sorry Shawn, but I’ll give Camilla the award for better breakup song of 2022. This collab was just so existing to wait for and great overall. Camilla sounds amazing, and I love the Latin style production that she went for in this, as it came off of a more Latin rooted album for her. It fits perfectly with her voice and she sounds great throughout. Now I think Ed sounds fine here to, but it was a bit weird to heat him on a Latin vibe though I’m not gonna lie, but despite that I think he sounds fantastic and his chemistry with Camilla is great, especially in the final chorus. The writing here was very nice for the time it came out to, it’s got a nice spring vibe to it and that goes along with some of the lyrics, for example the opening line, and I love how it’s sung both in English and Spanish, it’s one of those unique bi-lingual songs you only get every once in a while. Awesome song.
Oh yeah, legends never die bitchessssssssssssssssssssssss.
#6 Juice Wrld/Justin Beiber-Wamdered to L.A(Chart run; 8 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 4 weeks)(Points: 54,867)
I really did think a year ago when this song came out that it would be my #1 song of 2022, but that proved to be wrong when it just barely missed the top 5. This would’ve definitely up top 3 though had I created my Crownnote charts in 2021, first off since it was supposed to be juices birthday the other day, and since his date of death is also coming up, I just gotta say it, long live the legend 🙏. He would’ve been 24 years old on December 2nd, and he died on December, 8th 2019 when he was only 21, and that’s riveting to think about because now I’m 21, wow. This song is just still amazing in every way it was before. The production is very well produced and fits both the rap and pop radio vibe extremely well. It’s very bassey in certain parts and gives off the best amounts of bass, and it just sounds great overall. Juice sounds amazing here and he does a really nice job with his flow. Beiber’s verse is the best part though in my opinion, and usually I don’t like Beiber’s trap music, I just think he sounds eh over it, but he actually sounds great here, and the lyrics in his verse really speak to me, especially looking back now and thinking about the struggles I’ve been through the past few months. His verse just sets the tone for a great listen and it’s super catchy. The rest of the lyrics in Juices part are all interesting to, and very relatable about his mental health struggles, but also about love, and that’s why I love this song. It’s a song that’s relatable and talks about two subjects that intertwine pretty well actually. Amazing song, but what passed it and made it into the top 5.
If you’ve made it this far, then you’ve officially made it to the top 5, and before we get into it I’m just going to state for the fact that because of a few times this year I had to stop charting whether because of medical stuff or vacations, these songs all earned additional weeks on my chart and therefore additional points.
#5 Jack Harlow-First Class(Chart run: 10 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 3 weeks)(Points: 57.257)
If you’re around my age then it’s true that you probably couldn’t escape from this song in 2022, am I right? Yes. This song was very overplayed and a little overrated by mainstream media and radio, and for great reasons to. The sample from Fergie’s Glamerous is used very appropriately here, and it sounds amazing mixed in with the little trap R&B vibe. The production is just amazing. The beat is awesome sounding and very much fits Harlow’s style of rap very much, He sounds amazing here and his flow is amazing and makes the pace of the song go fast but smooth. It just sounds so great when it’s all mixed. The writing is also overly catchy and memorable and I just couldn’t get it out of my head up until it left the countdown, and I still listen to it and think about it a lot today. Such an amazing rap song, and definitely a song that deserved to be #1 for more weeks on the hot 100 instead of Ass It Was by Harry the clown(notice how there’s absolutely nothing from him on this list) sorry Harry fans. Let’s continue now shall we.
Alright where are all my TopGun fans at?
#4 OneRepublic-I Ain’t Worried(Chart Run: 12 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 2 weeks)(Points:50,389(Closest Estimate))
Where to begin with this, I mean I saw TopGun Maverick in theaters twice over the summer, and it is an amazing movie if you haven’t seen it yet I definitely recommend you do cuz it’s awesome. When I saw it though I didn’t really see how this song was really supposed to fit into the context of the film, like how I did with Hold My Hand, but I loved the scene it was used in, and the more I heard this song after it started becoming really popular on radio, I just came to love it even more. This is one of the 3 songs on the list that needed up debuting at #1 this year on the chart, and there’s a really great reason for that. The week I started charting this and loving it, was the first week of university classes for me, and of course I didn’t know at the time that this whole semester was gonna turn out to be complete hell for me, but back then was a time this year where I felt completely great mentally and I needed a little extra song I felt to make me feel even more better, and this one was that song. This song makes me feel so care free that I could listen to it anytime I want to, even when I’m down or scared. Ryan Tedder’s vocals sound so amazing throughout this song, and it’s one of his best, if not the best vocal performances I’ve heard from him, besides Lose Somebody with Kygo. I also love the production on this song, the whistling makes it so much fun and chilled out, and speaking of that I hear the whistling is sampled from another song, does anyone know which song? It mixes in well with the rest of the production greatly, especially the snaps though in the verses, those melody’s are amazing sounding. The writing here like I said is also amazing, the lyrics in this are not only care free and positive, but also very fun and catchy, and all in all this song made for not only a perfect movie soundtrack, but also a perfect summer smash, so looking back at the movie now, I can say,” wow, this actually did fit into that legendary football scene.”
You’re gonna find out what my motto of 2022 is in a few, but first.
#3 Tiesto/Ava Max-The Motto(Chart Run: 20 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 1 week)(Points: 105,434)
Ah yes, once again Tiesto getting blocked out of a #1 song, but this time not only by 1 song, but 2, LMFAO. This song is in all honesty though one of the ultimate party anthems of 2022 in my opinion. It’s so amazing and I didn’t at all expect the longevity it would have on my chart because at the time I started it, this song wasn’t yet a certified radio banger hit, but a few weeks into the year it started gaining a shit ton of traction on social media which caused its release, and man did it blow up and become way bigger than I thought it ever would. I had this stuck in my head literally the whole spring season I think, and that’s why it’s so high up here, but it didn’t end up hitting #1 on my chart until very late in its run, in fact it was blocked like 6 times by my actual #1 song for the top spot. This is amazing. Tiesto did an amazing job producing this, as it has a really dark but nice Spring/Summer vibe to it, and I can honestly now see why they waited to push this because it’s got that vibe that everyone seems to like in the springtime and summertime and that radio managers probably think are gonna do very well with younger audiences like people my age who are on break from school, and honestly I’m gonna say that it’s the perfect vibe for a spring or summer vacation cuz I was personally listening to it on constant repeat during my spring break. Ava Max does an amazing job on the vocals, and I think she sounds amazing very great even if she doesn’t sound like she has some miner affects on her voice, in my opinion though those effects don’t hinder her vocal power, they just add to it cuz she already has a naturally great voice. The lyrics in this song are so damn catchy to, and too much fun to not love, they’re repetitive, positive and party-ish, and they make the song truly amazing. I don’t know anyone who wouldn’t like this song, and if anyone doesn’t then they’re kinda crazy honestly. Amazing song, next.
We have made it to my top 2 songs of 2022, and ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah this one’s gonna be a fun one, not only for me to write out, but for a certain HrishK Music to read,
Ladies and gentlemen may I present you with a man named Mr Steve Lacy.
#2 Steve Lacy-Bad Habit(Chart Run; 14 weeks and still charting)(Peak: #1 for 7 weeks(note some were added on when I had to take hiatus because I still considered this my favorite song during that time)(Points: 105,569(Closest estimate)
I WISH I KNEW, I WSH I KNEW YOU WANTED ME, I WISH I KNEW, I WSH I KNEW YOU WANTED ME, I WISH I KNEW, I WSH I KNEW YOU WANTED ME, I WISH I KNEW, I WSH I KNEW YOU WANTED ME. I BITE MY TONGUE ISSA BAD HABIT 🤪😝. I bet absolutely no one expected this song to be this high up on the list, but alas it is, and so now this is the part where I laugh at and make fun of the haters. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha, y’all should’ve honestly seen this one coming with how much I love joking around with it in the Hits 1 Discord server, but uh yeah enough of all the rudeness, this is actually my #2 song of 2022, and wow I never ever ever would’ve expected this to reach the height that it’s gotten both on radio and on this list because when this first came out I was pissed off at the time at the music world(and you’ll find out why in a few) so I refused to listen to this until I listened to Hitbound one night, and it came on, and I was like, “Eh, I don’t really love this song.” And it was true that I didn’t for about a month after it debuted the countdown, but as I started hearing this more on Hits 1(like right before I got pissed off at them and stopped listening during the week) I started getting the chorus and hook stuck in my head all the time, so I had no real choice but to put it on my chart, and from there it turned into a song with a great run. It’s one of the only 2 songs still on my chart leading into 2023, and it’s still in my top 10 as of my most recent chart. Some people(Hrish) might say this song sucks, but in my opinion it rocks on a whole other level. The production here sounds very amazing, and it’s actually one of the very few songs I’ve heard all year long that actually sounds like it’s trendy enough for social media(not that my #1 or any of these other songs aren’t) but this one specifically sounds so trendy and awesome. It’s upbeat and it has that vibe that you just kinda can’t help but love cuz the way the melody’s play and sound and fit in with the vocals here are amazing. I also like the beat switch at the end, it sounds great for what it is. I think Steve Lacy does an amazing job and sounds perfect for this type of production, yes he may sound a bit high pitched in the second verse, but he’s got a really great voice that fits the high pitch very well, and he decided to use it well there. Now the lyrics here are a bit weird and kinda sexual, but they’re too damn fun and catchy not to love, and they fit in great with the vibe of the song. I especially love it when he says,” Let’s fuck in the back of the mall.” And that’s just cuz that one line is entertaining to hear, and after Hrish’s little rant on those lyrics in his album review for this song and Lacy’s album(which you should definitely check out) I love hearing that specific line even more now. Enough said, nice job Steve Lacy, let’s blow him up more in 2023, so that we can get Hrish mad again, lol(I’m just kidding Hrish💜)
Well if you’ve made it this far, then you’ve made it to my #1 song of 2022, and your probably looking at that Purple Heart at the end of that last review and are thinking well, it’s probably gonna be a song off of, wait should I even say the name of the album? Hmmmmm, I guess I will, So Far So Good, and all year round if you’ve followed this blog or my Instagram page for that matter then your probably well aware that this is not only my favorite album of 2022, but my favorite album of all time, and it’s such a special collection of unique songs that make me feel great and happy and special inside, and by being(I’ll admit) a really big stan of The Chainsmokers I think that most people would probably think(or do probably think) why the hell he in love with them and not someone normal like Harry Styles or Taylor Swift, and people there’s a reason for that and it’s simple, they’re overrated artists and overrated artists make shitty music that all sound the same. The Chainsmokers on the other hand don’t, they switch up everything when they create a new album and actually go out of their comfort zone to create bops, and there’s many other artists who do to, but with them there’s another component that attaches me to every single fucking song they release, it’s the lyrics, they just hit harder, are more emotional and get catchier every time they release new song. I also love their vocalist Drew Taggert and I think he’s improved very fast at his vocals over the years and I can definitely hear that in this album. So Far So Good was released in 2022, aka a year where fucking social media has to control every little fucking aspect of the mainstream music world, and where EDM just gets shitted on constantly, and I’ve already said it, but I’ll say it again, enough is enough with the underrating of EDM and the overeating of TikTok artists. We need to just fucking forget social media and go back to the way things used to be in the radio industry, where songs would naturally become hits instead of having artists create these dumb TikTok challenges for their singles. If You agree with me on this than leave a Purple Heart in the comments because social media is sadly the reason that this amazing album didn’t become popular. Ya know there’s a song and album from these guys called Sick Boy, and it’s about this issue exactly, it’s about how young people get so addicted to social media and give into it, and I’ll admit that I use social media a bit too much sometimes, but I don’t give into it and the things people say on it, and that’s what Sick Boy is about, keep holding onto your own opinions and let others do the same, and don’t let anyone else’s opinion sway you from loving the things you love. That’s what I always told myself when this albums chart run went to shit, and it helped me out a lot during the last few months when I was going through the hard times. I’d keep on constant repeat and it was like therapy to help get through the darkness in my mind, and sometimes it still is. It’s so special to me, and I wish that Drew and Alex knew that personally, but they don’t and that’s okay. A while back, even before the craziness began I was looking at my leaderboard and saw the amount of points 3 of the songs off this album had and I thought to myself,” I can’t just have 1 #1 song this year, I’m too attached to this album and these songs.” And so I nominated 3 different songs off this album to be my #1 songs of 2022, and I got that inspiration from Waffle after he nominated a bunch of songs off Happier Than Ever for his worst songs of 2021, and so now with my big opening statement out of the way, I’m gonna let my inner purple hearted spirit run free, and let this Sick Boy(big TCS fan as I call myself this as a nickname) show everyone what his favorite songs of 2022 are and why, and just know that I’ve learned something through this all, through the pain of not having this album be popular and later on through some of my mental trauma, maybe I’ve learned that maybe I can’t always expect good things to happen or to get what I want, but maybe that also my life is going so far so good 💜, and now with all that being said I finally present to you my #1 songs of 2022.

#1A The Chainsmokers/Chloe George-Time Bomb(Chart run: 16 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 3 weeks)(Points: 71,104(closest estimate)
Alright, kicking off our list of #1 songs of 2022, we have this amazing song, and this is the first time I’ve actually reviewed it on this blog, although I did mention it in a really really long rant that I added to a post back when this first came out in July. I did that rant cuz I was so pissed off that this didn’t get any radio deal, although it was supposed to have one I think. I see one Instagram comment from IHeartRadio on their teaser for this song that says,” Might show our hoss this.” And I thought oh yay a new radio single for them, but nope, nope nope nope nope nope, it got fucked over completely and was an unreleased single, even though many people had personally told Drew and Alex themselves that this song was their favorite off So Far So Good. Y’all can probably see now why I was pissed off at Hits 1 back then and why I hate radio, and that’s pretty much because they decided oh we’ll fuck this song over, and the same thing happened on Hits 1 with another song here(chances are you probably already know which one). I will admit that while I can’t get everything I want in life, I really wanted this to become a hit though and I’m extremely disappointed that it never did. This song is a party song plain and simple, it’s got a super upbeat party vibe to it, and it’s s something fun that I can see people playing at a party, or any fun event really. They did a really amazing job on the production here, the guitar that plays in the beginning of this sounds amazing and well mixed in with the rest of the production, and so it sounds more funky and bright than some other songs I’ve heard from them. Chloe George has a really great voice and does an absolutely stunning job here on the chorus, and she sounds great in her verse also, but what I love the most about her is that she just kinda sing.” Oh Oh Ohhh.” In the bridge, and personally that’s my favorite part of the song, it makes the buildup to the end sound so good honestly. Drew does a really great job here though to, his verse is very catchy and he sounds great. Chloe and him have some great chemistry though in the second and third chorus and he blends in very well with her voice. I love the last chorus the most though because even though there isn’t a key change in it, it kinda sounds like there is because the buildup in the bridge is so good, so at the end it kinda just all explodes exactly like how they’re singing,” I’m a ticking time bomb, looking for my ride home, flicking through my iPhone no destination.” It’s easily one of the best final choruses I’ve ever heard from The Chainsmokers. The writing is super interesting to though because it’s not exactly about partying even though it is a party song, but it’s about assimilating with new people and fitting in with someone and their friend group, and that’s super relatable to me because I’ve been an introvert all my life personally and sometimes I don’t feel right fitting in and speaking to new people, and sometimes I realize that I’ll act extremely nervous even in a class full of people where I’m kinda required to speak, so yeah I’m a bit shy with people who I don’t know and that’s the story behind this song and why I connected with it so much, but it’s also interesting because over time I’ve found out that most of my friends are extroverted, which means they’re not shy, and so sometimes it feels weird even when I’m hanging out with them. All in all this is a very catchy, fun, weekend worthy and relatable song I can connect to, and that’s why I nominated it to be #1.
Next #1 song please.

1B The Chainsmokers-High(Chart run: 16 weeks)(Peak: #1 for 7 weeks)(Points: 108,280(Closest estimate)
Man, this is the comeback that I had been waiting for, for 2 years and the rollout on this song was pretty huge. The day it was released I watched the music video for it at midnight and it instantly pulled me in the second I heard how good those strums are in the beginning and the,” woah, wooooooooah, so far so good.” It just was a shining moment of 2022 to hear this song when it premiered and it became a pretty big anthem of mine after. The morning it was released I remember getting up early and lying in bed and I turned on the morning mashup on Hits 1 to hear their interview with these guys, and then they premiered the song after and I was like,” Oh yeah, this is gonna be big.” So I got up still tired as all hell and listened to it on repeat a bit more and then added it to my CrownNote chart for that week early that morning, and that’s pretty much how it started with this song. A few days after it’s release I would see it performed live at the NFC Championship game in L.A(through social media of course) and pretty much after that moment it set the stage for this song to do some damage on my chart, and even though it wasn’t their biggest hit on Hits 1 nor AT40, I still think it did pretty good and it didn’t kill their career of course, so I’ll take the #7 peak on the countdown and #14 peak on AT40 as something that’s nice. There was a lot of opposition to this song however when it first came out though and that’s because some people just don’t understand how great it actually is with both the writing and vocals. First off I think that the vocals sound great here, and Drew Taggert does an amazing job using his vocal power, but it especially hits hard when he hits the high notes here because he uses so much emotion here, I saw a video about how this whole album was created and this was the last song they recorded off of the main album, and after they had written it I saw a clip of them sitting down and Drew is in front of this microphone and he’s like,” how am I supposed to song this one? And Alex tells him,” you just have to put a lot of emotion into it.” And that’s what happened with this song, Drew put a lot of emotion into it and used his personality so good on this and it really showed by that vocal talent with the high notes he hit in the chorus, but also the song as a whole because he sounds great throughout this whole thing(yes even when he talk sings) I saw a lot of comments when this first came out about,” oh he used too much autotune here.” Autotune schmautotune people, I clearly hear none of it when I listen to this specific song, maybe on some of the other songs he does have it, but uh yeah I hear no presence of it here and you can’t change my mind on that, so yeah vocals sound great and there’s no autotune, it probably just sounds that way cuz this is very overproduced, and let’s talk about that next, yes while I just admitted it’s a bit overproduced, I think it sounds great in every aspect. The trap vibe sounds great the mixing is flawless, it’s just the sound that’s a bit overproduced, and it’s not cuz it’s bad quality, it just naturally sounds that way. The beat switch at the end also sounds great and I love the mixing in it. Lastly, let’s talk about writing and again people criticized this a lot for its writing, but I see absolutely no problem with it, it’s catchy as hell and it talks about change, which if you’ve read my blog for a while now then you know that I love songs about change, and this one is about how Drew wanted someone to change, even though they never did. I think that’s important because sometimes we need to change to make the people around us feel happy, and that clearly didn’t work out in Drew’s favor with this person he’s talking about here. I think it says something and that being sometimes we may need a change in our lives, and as hard as it may be, it can be alright to change, so maybe the next time your thinking about changing something in your life, look back on this and say,” hmmmmmmmm maybe I do need to change so that I can benefit the people around me.” That’s what this song is all about. Also it was the song that helped calm my anxiety and stress the most during my medical battles and it’s personally the song I use as my football anthem whenever my teams win(which isn’t a lot of games right now) it’s just a great song that can hype me up or calm me down at anytime and I love it. Y’all know what I also love though(this final song 💜
And with that I present to you my Final #1 song of 2022,,

#1C The Chainsmokers-I Love U(Chart run: 30 weeks and still counting(longest running song on my chart this year)(Peak: #1 for 9 weeks)(149,758(Closest estimate)
Where to begin, where to begin? Damn this song is amazing, and it’s the longest running song on the chart this year at 30 weeks and it’s still charting as I’m writing this, so it’ll make it into 2023. First off I’m just gonna state that this song feels super relatable to me right now being a young man who’s still wondering when he’s gonna find that special someone to fall in love with. The phrase I Love you is really the most powerful thing anyone could ever tell you, and sometimes we use it for granted when we tell people we don’t like them, even though we do, however that’s not at all what this song is about. This is about someone who used to love another person, and they want to tell that person that they still love them, but said other person enters into a long distance relationship and so it complicated things, and yes this is actually about someone Drew has said, so this actually did happen to him, and I personally feel bad for him because of that, but the good thing is that he wrote this song about it and for a while he said it was his favorite off the album(of course those always change though). Let me tell you why this song is so amazing though and personally my favorite off the album and the best one out of the 3 #1s I had. First off let’s talk about the sample that’s used in the beginning and bridge of the song, it’s a Japanese phrase that pretty much means,” Go go captain, good luck good luck captain.” So it’s pretty like a sign of encouragement to,” Go tell her you love her.” And I think it fits in very appropriately with what the song is about. I did some research on this and the sample itself comes from a Japanese anime video game, and the character they sampled is someone named Sakura(which is weird cuz I play super smash bros and I swear there is a character named Sakura somewhere in that game) anyways I thought it was up pitched vocals at first, but later I found out they were Sakura’s natural vocals, anyways I think the sample is catchy and makes for a great start and makes it flow into the song well. The drum line used here is super catchy and fun sounding, and it mixes together with everything else in the mix, but it sounds especially in the verses. The rest of the production just sounds amazingly mixed in and well done, the drop is awesome with how it incorporates the orchestral, and the piano melody in the chorus sounds so joyous and amazing(I wanna learn to play it actually) Drew sounds amazing here once again, and his voice fits this production very very very well. The lyrics in this I’ve kinda already talked about, but it’s overly catchy and very fun sounding and ir hooked me in right when I heard it, which by the way was about 2 months before the album was released, I actually heard the intro to this song on an Instagram post from them and I knew from then on I’d love it, and so I stayed up every night before the album came out waiting for this, and when the 1 minute preview was released 4 days before the album was, I instantly fell in love with what I had heard it was so heavenly, so technically with the exception of High, this was my most anticipated song off the album, and I still love it to this day. Now did I know that it wasn’t gonna become a hit? No, in fact given how fast Hits 1 picked it up I thought it would, but it never made it into any other big stations and debuted the countdown only for a week after it was taken off the Hits 1 survey. After that happened I became really upset and angry and I went on that huge rant that everyone knows me for, and sometimes I look back at it and I actually laugh because it was funny as fuck as to how pissed I got when that happened, I took my anger balled it up and made that ball explode into a milliom words on why Hits 1 sucks and why they shouldn’t have fucked it or any EDM song over. That rant kinda inspired some people here and I’m glad that it did actually. In October right before my medical stuff challenged me hard, Drew and Alex were removed from the Hits 1 artist survey, and I got really upset at that and it’s one reason why I still don’t listen to them a lot today, but I’ve gotten over it since, and while some people may think that they’re irrelevant now, they aren’t, they still have millions of fans who bring crazy energy to every single show they play, they just need their time to shine again once all the overrated artists fade out and I believe that’ll come in 2023 when they release their next album and a bunch of new music that they’re already teasing, in fact they just released a song last week called Wish On a Eyelash, which they remixed and extended. The stuff they’ve teased so far for 2023 though sounds awesome and I just hope that while these songs didn’t get the chances that they deserved, that maybe the new stuff to come will and people will realize how good they really are again. Going into 2023 I’m looking forward for what’s to come for them, but I’m also looking forward to stanning another band who I’ve actually known quite longer than these guys have, so who knows what’ll become big on my chart in 2023, but whatever it is, I hope it’s just as good as this song and just as special as this album is to me. 💜
Well if you guys even successfully read all of that, then thank you for sticking around and being with me in 2022, an incredible year in music. please make sure to leave a comment down below of your favorites and least favorites off this list, and I hope for great new music to come in 2023.
