1 year anniversary special part 1

1 year anniversary special part 1: Q&A

Hello everyone and what’s up? Up I hope y’all are doing great and having an amazing week so far, or in other terms I could say I hope your week is going so far so good(catchphrase and album of the year for me so far) I’m doing great and I’m super happy because today is officially the 1 year anniversary of this blog. ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽˆ. I’ve come so far with this song and I never even thought that I would start this and become part of this community, so first before we get into anything, I wanna thank a few people who have been with me through this journey. First off I want to thank Beluga because he was one of my main people who I looked up to while doing this. I’ve always found him friendly and amazing the way he managed this community up until he left a few months ago, and I think I’ve done a great job carrying on what he’s done, even though I’ve had to adjust what I’ve done especially in these last few weeks with my schedule change. I just wanted to thank him for being amazing and showing me the ropes and sort of mentoring me in a way. I don’t think I’m ever gonna forget what he’s done here, and the legacy he left, so thank you Beluga for influencing me. I also wanted to thank the whole Hits 1 community and Discord server though, so to Waffle, Hunter, Scott, My10Baby, Hrish, Hippo, ZestPond, Bubby, Tyler, Chase, Keaton, Mitch, Monty and Daniel. Thank you all for being here for the journey. You all have been awesome to get to know, and even though we all have different tastes in music, we all love one thing and that’s Hits 1 and their really really weird and wacky weekend countdown, and even though on some songs we don’t agree on(especially me and Daniel, like how many wars have I gotten into with him on Discord?) I respect y’all opinions on anything, and through you guys I’ve gotten more comfortable with speaking my voice as to what I love in the music world right now, and what I think it should be like(even though the industry sucks right now) so thank you all for helping me out through this, and being so open and happy with me being part of the community. I wanted to extend my thanks to Hunter though especially because without him, that wouldn’t have happened, and I wouldn’t have been able to grow a great following here and in a shocking way, I wouldn’t have been able to get people into the Hits 1 Discord. I gave a lot of people here the invite link, and I think that with that being said, I kinda brought more people together and made the server way more active than it is now.. I know I don’t know any of you in person, but y’all are kinda like my second family to me right behind my actual family and friends of course. Speaking of which, If  you came here from my social media(maybe you follow me on Instagram) or know me personally, I also wanted to thank you guys for following along every weekend, or every once in a while. No matter how much you guys look, that helps out with pageviews, so it’s awesome to know that I have fans and people out there who love what I do, even though I might not always agree on whatever Hits 1 is doing musically, so once again thanks everyone for being here for me and following along on this journey.

Alright so with that, I just wanted to say something else before we get to the actual special. As you guys know, I don’t particularly think 2022 has been the best year in music Over the past decade, in fact it’s been one of the worst, so why do I do this, why I even bother doing it, if I know I hate some of the songs Hits 1 plays and overrate? Well, I do it cuz it’s fun, and I feel like it gives me a form of creativity that I want to have in my free time. Over the past week, I’ve really thought about the way the music industry is going though and it really disappoints me to say that I hate it. I hate how songs get pushed to general radio nowadays and this includes Hits 1 since they’re a major station in The U.S. Their rotation has gotten so dry and that combined with the fact that The Hot 100 is being dominated by payola asking artists and labels who clearly don’t care about the more genre bending and deep cuts in music, I’ve kinda decided to boycott Hits 1 for a while as well as general pop radio. Now what does that mean in the realm of future posts. Well, I’ve decided I’m still gonna review the countdown and Hitbound every weekend because it’s fun and I get hooked in easily, but I just won’t be listening to Hits 1s daytime rotation like I usually do. Also for anyone who does come here from my Instagram, I will be foregoing doing Hitbound reviews for now. I love doing this, but sometimes I need a break from overall pop radio, and what I think should be popular right now is just not what radio nor Hits 1 wants to be popular, and that’s alright, but I hear a bit too much overrated shit every time I tune into Hits 1, and I just need a small break from that, so for right now I’ll be reviewing the countdown, but my opinions on some songs may vastly differ from what they were before.

Alright with that all being said, let’s get into the fun part. I asked you guys to give me questions on a post about a week ago, and now it’s time to answer those questions. There’s not a lot, but I did get some really good ones, so here we go.

Alright this first one comes from ZestPond

Questions: What made you want to start blogging?

Answer: This is a great questions, and it’s actually funny how I decided to do this. I just wanted to sign up to be a hit-maker and vote on the stuff Hits 1 plays, but I had no clue where to go to, so I randomly asked on one of Beluga’s posts, and after both Bubby and Beluga answered my question, I thought about it and said,” wouldn’t it be awesome if I were part of this community.” And from there I just decided to start blogging. My main Inspiration came from running the Instagram account though, I’ve had it since 2019, and I started it cuz I wanted people to get to know what was new and popular in the music world, and thorough their music feature on my story, I started writing reviews and my first one actually came after I did a mini blog post review in a document after I had been reading Adrian’s blog for a while. I did a post just like I do here every week with color coating and everything, and it turned out perfect, so I posted it to my Instagram for people to see, but it later got deleted by accident and so I right there decided to review the countdown songs with audio on my story, so my followers could see. From then on, I told myself, “ That was fun, I should do it again, even if no one cares or listens to Hits 1.” And so from then on I started reviewing Hitbound every month on my Instagram starting in September 2019, and I still run it today my username is treys_music_reviews if you wanna follow me over there. As for inspiration, that came from reading Adrian’s blog up until he left and then after both Beluga’s and Waffles blogs. They did/still do immaculate posts and reviews of the countdown and they’re also very neat, and I thought it was a cool concept and it’d be nice to take my music reviewing further from my Instagram and blogging, to have fun and let all my other friends follow along who don’t listen to the countdown. That’s my inspiration as why I started, it’s not anything too inspirational, but at least it’s something. Great question and thanks for asking.

Ok, so I’m not really sure if Tyler intended on this next one being a question, but I still think it’d be fun to answer.

Question: what is the weirdest year in Hits 1 history

Answer: Hits 1 has always tended to be weird with their stanning and shit, and I’ve only been listening since 2015, but if I had to decide on which year was the weirdest, it’d have to be tied between 2019 and 2020. 2019 was a great year in music, but it was weird because there were many top 10/top 20 debuts that year, and it’s unusual for songs to debut that high on the countdown, even on the 30 song countdowns we see today. It was also very strange because I thought I knew what was gonna be the #1 song of that year. Sucker by the Jonas Brothers obviously broke the previously held record for most weeks at #1 that year with 13 weeks(before Shivers came along and broke it) obviously it was a really popular song that everyone thought was gonna be #1 that year, but to everyones surprise it ended up being Who Do You Love by None other than The Chainsmokers and 5SOS(yes this when my favorite band was actually popular) so how did I feel about this? Well I mean I obviously like WDYL, but I don’t think it ever deserved to be #1 of 2019, nor even hit #1, since it was already well past it’s popularity when it even had its 2 weeks at #1 in July of 2019. I mean it’s not a song I really look back on even when I listen to World War Joy(The Chainsmokers 3rd album) it wasn’t even a really great choice for a radio single. I would’ve personally preferred Kills you slowly over it, or Family or P.S I Hope Your Happy, but it isn’t the worst song I’ve ever heard, I still think it’s good, but not as good as Sucker, so that’s why 2019 was a weird year for Hits 1 in my opinion, they just had a mis-interpretation of popularity that year. 2020 was also weird because of the shortening of the countdown and all the new artists who emerged, as well as Hits 1 turning to Harry Styles and One Direction members as their main source of music, and #1s, but overall it wasn’t a bad year  for music either.

Alright let’s go with a new more from ZestPond.

Question: In your opinion what was the best year in music?

Answer: I’ve been exposed to a lot of music from many different decades in my life, but if I had to choose 1 specific year I always look back on and think,” That was a great year in music.” It’d have to be 2016. I think 2016 was the best year because that’s when I really started to like pop and EDM more, and because I loved the artists and songs that were blowing up at the time such as Meghan Trainer, Martin Garrix, of course The Chainsmokers, and others from bands I already liked such as Maroon 5, Shawn Mendes, Halsey, Coldplay and many others. Some of my favorite songs from that year include In The Name of Love, Don’t Let Me Down, Closer, No, Adventure of a Lifetime, Treat you better etc. 2016 was a really weird and hard year in my life and I think the music really helped me get through personal problems and emotions I had back then, and there’s some legendary and memorable jams that me and my friends and family loved from that year that o still look back on today, so yeah that’s the best year in music I think,

And now to go along with that.

Question: What is the worst year in music in your opinion?

Answer: Easily it’s 2018, I mean I liked a lot of songs from 2018, back then when they were current and popular, but now I look back at some of them and think,” Wow, this song sucks.” And that’s alright it just comes from my taste changing over time. There’s still a few great songs I look back on from that year though, but not that much compared to other years.

Alright last question comes from HrishK Music.

Questions: What is your favorite post from Waffle.

Answer: That’s hard, I mean Waffle is a legend, and he does a great job at reviewing shit, even if he has to rant multiple times in one post. I don’t think I have 1 specific post that I overall love from him, but I love his rants on any country song, so I liked the week Wasted On You debuted Hitbound obviously, hand I love his 2021 and 2020 worst lists. His complete tear apart’s of Heather, Death Bed, Someone you loved, Before you go and Fancy like were all great. I just love how he bashed any slow ballad or country song, and any post of his where he tears apart Billie Eilish’s songs I’ve always loved, even though I like her music. I think his taste in music is great and it gives him a lot of freedom to rant on things and sometimes you need that when it’s Hits 1 your following, so really I look forward to reading all of Waffle’s posts, cuz I never know when a rant is coming.

Alright guys uh that’s it. I only got 5 questions lol. Anyways thanks for the attention and love you’ve given me and this blog over the past year, and I camt believe it’s been a full year of this, and great news. I’m about to hit 20,000 pageviews, and that’s a big accomplishment, so once again thanks for sticking with me, and look forward to part 2 of the special coming soon,

Thank y’all and see you soon.

  1. Hey happy one year anniversary man. I wanted to let you know I'm close to 4000 pageviews and I owe that all to you, Waffle, and Beluga for inspiring me to start blogging. I always enjoy reading your posts and it's kind of hard to believe you have been doing this for one year. I like that we agree on most (though not all) music choices like all EDM. Keep up the great work, you have changed my life.
